OMG this is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.
This tabbed overview thing is a joke.
Moons not showing up is a pvp nerf of unimaginable scale...
It takes a great deal of effort to now scan moons for players.
it takes 3 times longer because now you have to start clicking moons in the fracking overview to get them to show up!
WHAT THE FRACK? CCP are you people DUMB?
So, why is ccp messing with my sig?

Fine, i see that CCP wanted the bracket system, it does have some positive sides. But for the love of god, dont change default settings. It makes baby jesus cry.
Also, the box on the center of the ship, which is used for system scanning, is still missing as far as im aware. Thats the biggest blow to PVP'ers, not the fact moons arent default.
You 'should' still be able to click on your ship to get the box. If there's not a way to get the moon icons to actually show in space this is really gonna suck for hunting down targets.

It Compleatly amazes me that people would complain about hitting a button right next to the one they are use to hitting for crying out loud just put a 1/4 more of your finger on the keys and you hit the combo for gods sake! Its not like you need your fingers to be on W/A/S/D to be rdy for anything!

Enough with the insults. Someone please explain exactly how you need to set up the overview to see moons in space. I have tried many variations of brackets and overview and still do not get moon icons to show.
By the way the Alt-Z is a toggle for showing every icon (except moons apparently)so you don't have to hold it, just hit it once to turn everything on and again to turn everything off.
Also, if you set up multiple tabs it looks like the first tab will always revert to Default settings even if you try to set it to something different.

Took me about 10 min to set up my overview this morning but alas I am at work now and can't go over it step by step from memory. I will come back in tonight and post anything I can to help people having trouble with the overview settings.

From my tests, they will not show up on my screen unless I have one selected in my overview.
I am sitting here on a planet, looking at a moon, with the moons on my overview and all brackets on. With the moon SELECTED, there is the selection box around the moon, and still no icon.
Tell me what I'm doing wrong.

i've been playing with it a fair bit, and it seems once you have things setup properly, Alt+Z does work as intended, it's just slightly different to the old "alt shows all brackets" deal.
What you need to do is have an overview profile with the stuff you want on it, ie for me that would be player ships + gates. then create another with player ships + gates + moons. Go the the last tab on overview settings, name the tab, set the first overview profile, then the second one with moons on as bracket. this way you will show all your normal stuff + moons in space. in theory.
The problem however, is that moons in 3D space have no icon, so no bracket to be displayed even when you have things setup properly.
I'm hoping this is a bug on ccp's part and it gets fixed. i dearly hope it is not intended as it is quite a serious nerf to directional scanning.

The issue ins't that you can't eventually setup an overview setting to show the brackets using 'alt-z'. The issue is that there really was no need to take away the simple 1 key method. How much are you looking foward to resetting even moar overview settings the next time CCP wipes them all for the next patch, hotfix, hamster fart?

This is indeed a bug of somesort.
Just logged in to play with this, and only 1 moon in the system has an icon in space. ALL other moons do not.
DO not bring up brackets. I turned off bracket filtering, and nothing changed. The moon icons seem to be bugged, prolly related to the bracket changes, but still a bug.
as for getting brackets around your ship for aligning directional scans, you can left click your ship to "select it" which places a solid white box around it until you select something else.

this needs to be corrected. whilst i'm sure the new overview settings are great (haven't logged on yet since patch) holding ALT to show all celestials was a very useful shortcut which aided hugely in directional scanning.
also, while you're bringing back this functionality, please please please consider bringing back the minimap which disappeared literally years ago. please review the threads about it

wow alt+z is messed up or something... it appears to have toggled moons to show up when you hover but there is no icon and now I can't get rid of them which is bad...
This is just stupid... give the old alt function back NOW.

ok everyone seems really confused about this whole deal so let me clarify.
the moon bracket doesnt appear in space (i'm not talking about your overview, i mean in your HUD).
best way for me to explain is to give you an example.
first we create a new overview preset only showing moons (call it moons). we create a new tab, with the the following settings "moons" - "moons" - "moons"
the way this is intended to work, should filter everything in the overview, and HUD and only show ... moons.
however (make sure bracket filtering is one) if you take a gander in space you wont see any of your moons brackets. now try warping to zero on a moon and deselecting it. notice it has a bracket now.
this is what everyones asking about, not "why is the alt key not working" or "why dont i have moons in my overview"
they mean quite simply, why cant we see moons in space anymore, as being able to do this quicklym or at all, is almost essential.
so what we are asking CCP is this, why do moon brackets not appear at all unless you're within AMAZINGLY close proximity to the moon, thus making it useless.

I did set up a tab for moons and it doesn't show the icons.
They're also not bright in space like they used to be

Once again CCP great forethought and planning there.
Regardless of what people have said i still cannot get moons to display on my HUD. clicking on my overview through 80 odd moons is a sure way to make sure we'd never get a ditrectional scan on people we need kill.
Once again i'm convinced CCP devs are really all wow players or empire veldspar miners.

I agree with this. Eve needs more hotkeys. Please let us assign regular letter keys to commands. If we want to chat, we can click the box or push enter like most MMOs that I know of. Or make it an toggleable option for those of us who need more hotkeys. I can think of a better use for the TAB key, also (cycling targets, overview tabs, etc).
I still think people are overreacting to the change to the ALT key and brackets, though.

There is a way. It requires adapting, though, which for some people is an unsurmountable requirement.

ALT+Z works fine for me. It toggles now instead of holding to show, but otherwise seems like the old functionality. I see moons, planets, sentry guns, etc, even when they're not normally shown by my bracket settings. Push it again and they go away.
If you want to see moons in space without pushing a key, here's how. Create an overview setting with moons and whatever else you want and save it. Create a new tab--call it celestial, scanning, whatever. Right-click that new tab and click "change bracket settings". Select the settings you saved. That should work (it does for me).
Keep in mind that brackets and overview filters are separate and that the "default" tab doesn't work like the other ones. It doesn't save and you can't change the brackets. This may be the source of the problems.
Also, if you click your ship, you'll see the bracket there (like someone already said.
