Edited by: NuroCorp on 16/03/2008 02:09:42 Server performance everywhere is pretty crappy it would seem.... its been like it for most of today (been online for about 8 hours playing with pos stuff). At the moment it only takes me 15 mins to open a corp hangar array if I'm lucky .

^^^ Post i made a few days ago that basically sums it all up imo...and furhtermore lets not point all the fingers at ccp.
Half of the people asking for changes of these sorts have probably never entered a 20+ man engagement. much less an 800+ man engagement where you drop to 1 fps and slowly chug your way to your target hoping you don't explode as you wait 2 minutes for your gungs to turn on.
Most don't know how effective a stasis webbifer or the scan resolution time of a frigate sized vessel can be.
The thing I notice the most..is the older...pure pvp/experienced veterans in eve combat do less whining and more adapting..and train to deal with any combat situation and find effective methods of dealing with any threat.
These players that have been playing the game for years with pure dedication to combat have not been crying for nerfs..or boosts...(aside from myself stating caldari needed more gunboats and..well..thats one good thing CCP did with this patch). But these experienced hardcore dedicated pvp lovers that have seemed to learn the capability of ever ship they've encountered...complain about lag..d-syncs..low fps..node crashes..client crashes..
The saddest part of it all without posting direct quotes is the replies we get when we complain of these issues. i've petitioned for ship loss 3 times in over 1 year of playing this game. And each time with either some crazy glitch caused by your software or due to lag. And only because of those issues. And I'm told you guys see no error....that i should try changing settings on my computer and closing background programs...as if i haven't been using pc's for the past 12 years...as if i didn't spend $3000 USD to build this machine last summer...as if i don't pay over $50 USD a month for an 8mb cable connection..both of which appear to be 20x more stable than the EVE Online server (no offense). I handbuilt this machine. It runs crysis on highsettings at 50-60 fps. last i checked eve-online's minimum requirements are by far surpassed by the capabilities of this machine. before trin 1.1 i could run 2 accounts from the same directory both clients on high setting and as long as i wasn't ina huge fleet engagement maintain 100-175 fps on both clients at once. Now 1 disconnects every 5 minutes and the other drops to..11-28 fps mining ice?
Here you got people telling you "i died because of your servers instability" and we get a copy/pasted reply stating really? we didnt see anything..wasn't our software..wasn't our hardware..(not a quote..and slightly exaggerated). Even without the question of should we get or ship back...we are left feeling ignored..another GM turning a blind eye to server complications and poor coding..and improper testing of patches. YOu guys worked hard to please a lot of noobs with flashy graphics and making some ships easier for them to kill....what about those of us who were fascinated with eve since before trinity and revelations? The same lag..same d-syncs..same fps drops around large numbers..same hours of trying to get out of jita on a weekend. Myself not as long, but many have been waiting for years for you guys to release a patch that actually fixes the biggest problems of these games. Instead you're more worried about expansions every 6 months..pleasing the masses who aren't happy with the things you've already given them in the game..albeit there are people who've trained skills on a paying account for over a year or more for one given particular ship..
Noob missions and new help tutorials..to welcome the growing masses of EvE noobs..as it is it seems we can't handle the load the server has. Time to give some love to your loyal followers...we haven't quit playing for a reason...we loved the game to begin with. We dont need the new content...Fix tranquility. And once that's done..if it aint BROKE...dont fix it.. please?

Edited by: coeathal vega on 16/03/2008 10:30:27 I'm not even talking about 20+ engagements - a long time ago those were lag-doomed. Before Trinity, 400 in system seemed to be the "ohmygodwe'regonnacrashsoon" limit, then...
Trinity came, that limit dropped to approx 250-200...
After "boost" patch, game becomes medium to non-playable when local hits 100.
So yes, my plead is - please, look into server lag, stop adding nifty overview features (yes I know new customers like them), focus on optimizing performance, not everyone is running missions in empire you know...
Because, somehow, I can see that one day, even the mission runners might become tired.

I remember when we were defending IAC outpost like a year ago. 400 in local and stuff started gradually to go down the tubes. Server got restarted, and we could ...do stuff atleast.
1 year later, and you can desync with only 20-30 people in local. Doesnt happen THAT often with so few people in local, but its defintly something you have to take into consideration when you make a move with alot of assets on the line.
Makes you wanna cry in frustration that the game is basically run by the roll of a dice sometimes. |

Well, It seems that I overestimated the 100 number, Delve is crashing yet again (3rd time this weekend) with local around 50 and no fights going on.
Thank you CCP. It's time to look around the market...

CCP really needs to think that if this continues on a regular basis (like it has been), they're going to start losing some long time regulars. Myself for one, or should I say three since I pay for that many accounts?
How about some reimbursment CCP?

How do you know it's not you computer? I've clocked up at least 15 hours game time since the patch without a single crash, in fact I have never had a crash at all.
Maybe it's because the PC I use only has EVE, Cubase and a handful of virtual synths installed. Less software to cause havoc in the \WINDOWS\system32 directory. You'll be surprised how many installers are written and don't follow guidelines and overwrite system libraries with modified or older versions which then cause problems with other software that try and use them.

The server is pathetic.
Behind the nice facade and ads, there's one broken game.
Calling this stuff a mmo game is just utter nonsense.

this seems to be an ongoing theme in all MMO's.... it happened when SOE began mass-patching and expanding EQ (it got so buggy it became extremely unpopular within a year and this was after 5 years of great service). It is beginnng to happen with Blzzard (from what my World of Whinner friends tell me, I wouldn't know) and now it's happening with Eve.... The cause? They are trying to grow too big, too fast and are leaving the quality behind in favor of quantity and bigger paychecks. Sadly it's the curse of the corporate world and after 12 years of online gaming I have yet to see it remedy itself.
Eve is following the same, predictable downward spiral of all successful games and unless the corporate monkeys happen to pull their heads out of their collective behinds Eve will just become another footnote in the MMO society jsut like every other "king of the hill".
Just remember... once you patch the patch that screwed up the patch before the last patch that was patched to fix a patch that no-one can figure out why it quit you'll never get back the quality you once had so you keep patching. Snow-ball effect, smokescreen tactics and loads of BS but we still pay to play our sub-par games to feed our addictions. What will renew our ***** habit? A new expansion with hugely over stated promises that wont deliver because they wont be trully ready before release time and we'll be right back to *****ing about the game jsut like we are now and will the parent company do anything about it? LMAO no! Why would they? We keep giving them our hard earned money every month like good little Pavlovian dogs.

I could not agree more with the general sentiment. I don't have exactly what you'd call a thoroughbred machine, but it's not a glue factory-bound nag, either.
I paused my account in November to take a hiatis, with the game running smooth as clockwork. Since then, I've added an extra gig of RAM. Two days ago, I reactivated my account, expecting EVE to really run like a champ, since I hadn't played it since before the extra RAM was added. Boy was I wrong. I read in a post that someone likened their gameplay to a flipbook. Spot on description. That's exactly what it feels like. It's just plain unacceptable, bottom line.
Two years ago, I started playing and was perfectly content with what existed. Instead of whining about certain aspects of the game, I committed myself to learning. Instead of moaning about the ship that just ganked me, I trained and improved to the point where I could either beat it, or figured out which ship to change to that was the right ship to get the job done.
New, shiny bells and whistles are nice and all, but truth be told, I'd give it all away just to have a reliable gaming experience. Right now, I've already lost one ship due to system failure. I won't bother with a petition. I'll quietly make a mental log of it, and when I've had enough, I'll deactive my account again, for good this time. And not everyone is a squeaky wheel. I can just about guarantee there are others like me who'll simply tolerate it as long as they can, trying every method they can think of to circumvent the troubles, and when the line is crossed, they'll quietly slip away.
I understand basic economics. More subscribers means more money in your pockets, and there's nothing wrong with making a living. But how about some loyalty to the old customers who came to EVE because they fell in love with it's core values? **** on the new age carebears who expect everything handed to them on a platter. It's time to send a message. Get with the program or go play something else.
Make the game playable. Sure, add a couple nuggets of new content here and there, but make the damn game playable. Massive overhauls are completely unnecessary. Go ahead and take a poll. How many people are still playing on EVE basic, putting much more value on performance than they do on shiny new ship models? Go ahead, ask around. Personally, I don't give two flips about the new ship models. They all look the same when they're reduced to wrecks.
Trust us when we tell you, you don't have to put new coats of paint on this game regularly for us to stick around. All you have to do is maintain a stable and reliable playing environment. Do that, and we'll stay. Those other jokers who only play for the bling ... well, they're not going to stick around, anyway. They're much more comfortable in wow where they can stand in the middle of town sporting that shiney new flaming vorpel sword. The rest of us, the ones who're much happier flinging hot lead at each other, we'll still be here ... as long as we don't have to figure in client instability into our combat strategies, that is.
In closing ... just make it playable. That's all. Everything else is icing and doesn't matter. Make the game playable. Roll it back if you have to. I'll happily take the the SP hit. Whatever it takes, just make it work.

I agree that we shouldnt discourage CCP to develop their game futher.
As you say we all love the EVE expirience. There is nothing on the market that I know that can compete with the feeling of control of your own destiny as EVE.
That said, we as consumers have the right and SHOULD point of weaknesses in the game or in patches that might be subjected to the game.
If we dont point out errors/faulty patches, how can CCP fix said problems?
Its better that we cry wolf once to many times, than complete silence.
I dont think Coeathal made this thread coz he hates EVE as a game. Its a safe bet hes enjoys the game immensly and wants it to play smoothly and without glitches.
In a perfect world I will be playing this game from the retirementhome in 50-60 years time But I wont if the horrible lag/desyncs presists. |

I work on computers for a living, and software that will using every bit of resources that you can throw at it. The main program I use 3D Studio Max2008 (which is another collection of 'additive' coding) is more stable than EVE.

You know, I'd agree with the people who speak out against people who whine about the abysmal server performance, if only they weren't quite obviously the ones who are coming out tops because of desync and system chug.
CCP, get your act together. I wouldn't care about server performance so much if only I could play EVE outside of windowed mode. Goddamnit. ----- "I am prepared to meet my maker; whether my maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter." |
