With posts like the OP, it's just mystifying why the Devs don't participate in the forums more.

I find it funny how its always the same people that keep on having these problems
And the arrogance of calling the Dev's bad and having to point them into the right direction is epic fail.
Dear Sir please point me to a game that holds 35 to 40 thousand people online at the same time that YOU have programmed that does EVERYTHING better than CCP?
We have a saying over here that roughly translates to : The best captains are te ones standing on the shore.
It means that its always easier to point out what others are doing wrong than actualy doing it yourself.
Oh and if you actualy wanted teh attention of the developers, creating a post without all those "********" would make more sence as they might actualy be botehred to read your rant then.
have fun programming a better, bigger and bugfree competitor of EVE Online, call it ADAM Online so i can easily google it.

To the OP,
Wow, <- (there is a nice little game for you) the levels of negativity towards the devs is fairly high now days, but your squealing about the time it takes to do a level 4 mission is just absurd, it's a mission; i'ts supposed to take time to do.

Youre whining because YOU didnt train industrial skills and YOU chose to focus on "PVP" and then YOU went to an NPC agent (who couldnt care less who YOU are and just wants the job done). WTF??
Courier it, ask for help, I dunno - just do something else, anything else other than come on here asking for CCP to make the game easier for YOU.

I agree 150% with that statement. If CCP wonders why they get so much hate on the forums, that right there says it all. To any dev reading this post: Take a note for crying out loud!

I had a strange mission too. My agent, who has always given me combat missions and according to all the sites should only give combat, told me to go mining in lowsec.
While I can afford to lose a ship I'd rather not **** one away so frivolously so I told him I wouldn't do this one.
Luckily it wasn't a storyline mission, just a normal one.

I think the developers are probably ok, I've found that most are, but you gotta reign them in sometimes and give them direction and organization to get the best product out of them. So it's the leadership that probably sucks, not the developers themselves. Though most of the code I've seen appears to be written by junior/associate level developers rather than senior/principals.
Ah...never worked in the computer industry, have you? If "senior programmers" were forced to do the whole thing, the cost of getting it done would be sky-high. Second, just how on earth do you tell the difference between a "junior" and "senior" programmer's code? Is there a stamp somewhere? Just having sloppy code doesn't mean anything, some older programmers refuse to give up old styles even when better things come along. I think it boils down to - if you think you can do better, go apply for a job with CCP. If you don't have the skills to get that job, lay off on the programmers. Same goes for developing, and management.
Originally by: Xaen I think this says it best and most succinctly: Eve is the better game, WoW is better run. I wonder if perhaps the game wouldn't be better off if Blizzard bought out CCP. I mean the WoW market and the EVE market don't really overlap. Totally different games beyond the umbrella acronym they fall under. So there wouldn't really be a need to shut the game down if they did buy it. Things could only get better.
WoW is better run?! You've got to be kidding! Their economy is out of control (EVE's is fairly good, look at the quarterlies), there is NO incentive for player groups to interact, the setting is totally static, and something is always broken. Blizzard takes over, and non-consensual PvP is a thing of the past, Tranquility will be fragmented into a hundred servers only able to handle a thousand or so players each, and the whole game will turn into a rush for the next shiny new toy. Blizzard wants to make money, and there seems to be a lot of it in the "completely 'Carebear'" model of MMO.
They also are no better at some things than anyone else. I have a few friends that still play WoW...several of them were quite aggravated recently to discover that the servers they play on were down for the better part of a day.
Still want to go there?

I think my boss would be really surprised to hear you say that. If I haven't been working on projects for him all this time he's really going to wonder who the hell has been getting it done.
Originally by: Annaphera Still want to go there?
I never said I wanted to. I have seven RL friends that play WoW more than anything, but the game just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know where you got the idea that it did. Especially given that you quoted me saying "Eve is the better game..."
But when bugs get fixed, the centralized areas don't lag, the servers are up for a higher % of time than EVE is, the frivolous easter eggs are all over the place, but big glaring bugs tend to get fixed sooner rather than later, there's really not contest.
I'm not talking about game mechanics, I'm talking about how the game is maintained and operated. They don't do stupid audio blogs for what they're looking at changing. Their "on the drawing board" section isn't a pack of lies. Features analogous to the skill queue are added before most players realize they'd be helpful rather than never.
The fundamentally broken design of armor vs. shield tanking in PvP and the racial T2 bonuses is something I continue to exploit daily and don't expect to see go away ever. CCP isn't that good. In WoW the FotM really does last about a month. Here it lasts months or years, while the UI falls apart, Jita melts and we're still wishing for the most obvious EVE feature imaginable and don't have it.
I'd even sacrifice my boot.ini for a skill queue or a fixed UI! - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

A great deal can be inferred from the end result. Something you would know intrinsically if you had any idea what you're talking about.
The now movable overview that also minimizes when you hit tab? Fail
The now movable drone overview that reverts to its default location when you undock? Fail
The fact that all drones were overlooked when all the ships in the game got resistances changed? Fail
These are mistakes that Senior Developers worthy of the title never allow to happen. If they're made by junior developers they should be caught in code review by the Senior developers. If the "Senior Developers" aren't doing code reviews, they are not Senior Developers. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

I spotted a typographical errror in your OP. You complained that you couldnt easily do the hauling thing because you were a combat pilot but then you said you were doing missions. Does not compute, eh? Mission runners do missions, and they should really be set up to be able to haul if needed. Oh boy, it's Special Delivery again.
First of all, what the **** is going through your minds, CCP that you give storyline missions to move 40,000m^3 to pure combat pilots?
Do you actually hate your players or something? That's just ridiculous. I could understand if it were given to players that have been doing courier missions for ages, but this is absurd.
To make matters worse, my alt and I had to haul that ******* **** through Jita. And since I'm a combat pilot and my alt mostly is too it took me seven ******* trips to haul it all and then get back to my base of operations.
This would still only be very ridiculous. But the fact that Jita is still a god damn death trap it's taken me about 4 hours and I'm not done yet. And you've had the option to fix jita for over a year, and still nothing.
I guess I really shouldn't be surprised given that the UI has been broken since the game was released and you've done squat about that too. But I guess adding female corpses is more important to you than fixing things that matter.

Mammoth with T2 expanders will haul 17837m3 and 20512m3 with a single cargo rig. I'm going to assume that you already have leet learning skills and all the other prerequisits for fitting so you only need to take about 4 days to get Minmatar industrial to 4. Now you can use your combat character to make that haul in two trips or just one if you get your alt into a Mammoth also. --------------------- Q: WTF! Why?! A: Because I can. --------------------- |

Xaen,
We have disagreed on several points, but on this one, you seem to be spot on.
I run R&D missions, every few days I get a story line mission... and even the easiest encounter type are near impossible for my industrial self... Sure I can build a Golem or Kronos, but it will be a long long time before I can fly one...
It seems to me that Story Line Missions should be linked in some way to the missions that precede it... based on the agent used... R&D have no encounter missions, so no encounter type Storylines... Security has 95% Encounter/5% courier - so 19 of 20 Storyline missions should be encounter...

That's precisely what I'm getting at.
But the problem in this case happened to be exacerbated by other unrelated problems. Namely the long standing sore that is jita combined with a feature-bereft autopilot.
Any one of the problems by itself and you wouldn't be seeing another whine post. But through their powers combined I wasted four hours doing a single ****ty mission (since it was a storyline declining it was out of the question). And it sapped me of my will to play for the day. - Support fixing the UI|Suggest Jita fixes|Compact logs |

1st issue - Storyline missions do not differentiate between "combat" characters and "industrial" characters. Storyline missions cover a wide array of things. Your issue is not that you had to haul so much, it's that you had to haul anything at all. Storyline missions don't work that way on purpose. If you want to kill things 100% of the time just don't accept the ones that don't offer kill objectives.
The issue with storylines in my experience is that Storyline Agents are normal agents, they're just not accessible without being triggered by normal missions. And as far as I can tell what happens is that you are simply sent to the nearest storyline agent regardless of their Corp or Division.
I don't think it'd be horribly difficult for CCP to put in more storyline agents and send you to one that works for the Corp and/or Division you've been running for.
I wouldn't even mind getting stuck with a courier mission if it was just a random agent from the Corp. If I'm running missions for the Imperial Navy it's not because I want a standings boost and LP with Noble Appliances. :p
