Fly safe Kieron
Originally by: SeismicForce I understand the reasoning behind not tellung us about every new employee, as it doesnt really concern us. However, since kieron was, and you are, the person in charge of the community, and we are the community, it would be nice to at least know whats going on when something changes and who our contact person is.

What, you don't remember the "Pann is fat" threadspam? Goons don't even compare. Good times, I still have a screenshot somewhere. Was still when the website was blue.

Unless I'm mistaken, everyone knew Pann was leaving well before she left and she even came by IRC to say goodbye, and I seem to recall a forum thread, but good luck finding that.
Quote: [...] and if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.
yeaaaaah I'm pretty sure paying customers have the right to express an opinion, so here's mine: I never liked the dude, always found him [edit:] "roostery" (stupid word filter), rude, and completely unable to admit when he was utterly wrong (and he self-clowned on threads about game mechanics more than once). That said, when the point guy for a company's communication with their customer base gets fired, quits, whatever, and that company doesn't make some kind of public statement but waits until the issue is raise by their consumers, that company is managed poorly and has seriously flawed customer service.
Man, you guys are racking up the yellow cards lately.

I have to say that a thread of leaving is definately called for in a situation like this. It wouldn't matter who it was that started the thread and it shouldn't contain reasons for the splitting of ways. But letting the community know when their representitive is leaving and being changed is definately the way to handle things.

It is difficult job. Being the go between between the devs and the players. You have to put up with the BS from both sides. It is why most community managers of forums don't last more than a couple of years at most. Kieron's tenure is probably one of the longer ones I can think of. (Thunderheart might have served as long for SWG when he left not sure though).

Originally by: CCP Wrangler Actually, when our first Community Manager left it was not announced unless I'm mistaken, we might have announced that we had a new one but don't think we had a goodbye thread. When I was hired at CCP the only announcement was that my character got the Dev badge on the forums. When I took over as Community Manager and kieron became Director of Community the only announcement made was that we put our new titles in our signatures, in fact it was several months before I "inherited" the Community badge instead of the Dev badge. When our first Community Manager returned to CCP it was not announced either.
Quite frankly we almost never announce people joining or leaving the club.
I've noticed some people post less than nice things here and in other threads and while we look to the future we also miss kieron and if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.
When Pann left it was, well lets say it politely, not unexpected. But Kieron did a good job imho and I think because he worked as a community manager he should have as least say goodbye just because of his strong connection with the community. The fact that he did not do that makes me think that he left without him willing to leave.

The messages of farewell to kieron in this thread prove that the community is alive and well, and that people want/need to know what happens to those we identify with within it. Take the "Innominate Nightmare" experience; we were left hanging with a question mark over our heads and huge efforts were made to find out what happened to the character. I know you can't force someone to write a goodbye note, but if we knew at least that someone had gone to pastures new, that would be a form of closure.
I've mentioned before, I would like to see a section on the left hand side for our community team, so we could click and see a list of who's who. It fosters the feeling of inclusion within the community. There could be a section for new joiners and leavers and what their roles are in regard to us.
It doesn't take much to keep everyone feeling happy and 'in the loop'. I know there's a sticky up top for Devs to announce themselves, but I don't feel that it does the job properly.

TomB got sucked dry of all his blood and was thrown into the WoD project. For sure he will be there and rule the game when we finally leave EvE and join as vampire-fledgelings.
