I scanned this T1 hauler today, scanner popped up with over 80k in morphite in his cargo hold.
I was a bit taken a back but quickly hit mwd and opened fire, he popped a few seconds later and I quickly tab to my other account to pick up the loot, concorde still firing on my ship and him in his pod going omfg.
Quickly did some calculations and realise it's around 3/4 of a billion isk that this guys just lost.
What's even crazier is that his CEO paid 250k cspa charge to convo me to ask for it back or the isk.
But seriously why do people do this, I mean I only had to do 2800 damage as it was an Iteron IV and why was he on auto pilot
If I was his CEO I wouldn't be convoing the guy that ganked him, I'd be kicking him out for stupidity

I think that every Empire inhabitant should live in deep space for an extended period of time, preferably as early as possible. After a few months there they could return to the safe Empire space and breath out. However, the paranoia and the securitymeasures they have adopted from their stay in deep space will be (hopefully) so deeply rooted inside them, that they will (hopefully) follow the same routines from deep space after their return.
Deep space learns paranoia!

Hi F'nog,
my practical experiences that I've made so far are, that never ever anything happened afterwards.
I think most of the people know that they have made a mistake and try to justify their loss somehow by whining and smacktalking, or even worse, by harrassing you. In these cases, if it gets personal, I just block them and that's it. A few people (mainly <16 year olds) don't get that this is just a game and there is never ever a need of harassing mom's and dad's of other players.
Kindest regards, Smak

usually no... but it depends on how old...*hard, unless you actually gotten to know them...* the person making the threat is....
if its under 40 years old... ignore it..
if its an old geezer.... be AFRAID.. be VERY AFRAID...

One of the first losses i had in Eve was to a goon camping a gate. Ever since I've never had much love for goonswarm (based on alot of things) and thus never offer ransom when I got a goon-pod tackled.
I'd guess that most threats made after a loss are meaningless tho.

There has been some instances in the past. Istvaan was the one I think who stalked someone until he quit the game. Video named 'karma' might also light up something. It was afterall one of the first freighters suicide ganked (before they started dropping loot) bcos one scammer ****ed off some wrong people. People who will actually hurt you either do not convo you before blowing u up or do so from their mains.
Overall however it is idle threats. Guys with that kind of power to throw around to be threat are mentally a bit more stable to bother with some n00b losing his t1 fitted mothership by being stupid (and all other lower level hiccups, like flying afk in t1 hauler with 750 mil of morphite).

There is simply nothing they 'can' do. You can't do a whole lot against someone who stays all their life in empire and never risks anything. Not that putting 800m of stuff in a T1 hauler isn't completely nuts, the built in penalties for highsec ganking are ridiculously low, and there's no ability for real retribution, the bounty system is a joke. Basically, the best thing anyone has a hope of doing in a situation like this is to learn from it and move on, that's it. No real vengance possible.

Make 80 trips to haul 80K of Morphite or make one and get through. In 80 trips you will lose a few anyway. In one trip you might actually make money or get screwed by one of the ever growing welfare gang who camp gates hoping someone still plays the game.

These people aren't autopiloting. Thats a myth. They are coming out of the gate. Often, they panic and try and run the gate they came out of because they assume they will get scrambled. It's the last ditch effort to recover losses. Add to that the lag and the poor sorry slobs still running dial up because unlike western users, it's not defacto you have dsl, they just can't get out fast enough. |

80k units of morphite only take up 800 m3 of cargo space. I'm sure there are safer ways out there to transport that amount.

A week ago I would have agreed with you. Knowing the gank fleets can take down Battleships with Concord no shows, I don't know any more. I can transport that Morphite but I can fly Black Ops BS and 4 empires of ships. If I had devoted all my SP to where I could mine 80K Morphite in a life time, I couldn't do that.
U do bring up a point though. If you are a Miner through and through, get in a corp with people you can trust and let people who have trained to do something bring your Morphite to market. Yes, you might need to share. And in return, you will get support enough that maybe you can mine 3 tims the amount you are now.

If he needs a bunch of cargo capacity, then he can just tank a DST. You'd need an excessively large gang to take one down fast enough.
Or, in the case of the victim in the OP, either use a scout or fly a ******* BR. Oh, and never fly 750,000,000 worth of **** on autopilot

I think the bigger issue is that you actually sit your life away in this game scanning ships in hopes to find big bucks inside lame tanked ships. THEN, you come here to gloat on how crazy people are who do this, but yet you're such a hypocrite that you STILL sit and wait for these morons. I can see it now... if people didn't do this, you'd STILL be wasting away at a gate in hopes for the next moron. So tell me... who's the bigger moron here? TA-DA! YOU ARE!

yeah this kind of stupidity happens often. a friend of mine got this kill a while back. ill post just the items that dropped and say he killed a tier 1 hauler that was on autopilot in empire:
Dropped items:
Expanded Cargohold II Dysprosium, Qty: 13933 (Cargo) Nanofiber Internal Structure II (Cargo) Warp Core Stabilizer I, Qty: 2 (Cargo)
estimated value: 750 to 800million isk.
then people like this dead hauler whine about suiciders. because autopilot should be cruise control for safety.

the risk/consequences of suicide ganking: you lose sec status. you lose your ship. and there is no guarantee that the modules you want will drop, and no guarantee that you will be able to pick up the items that drop before someone else does. you also criminal flag for 15 minutes, and you have an agro timer against that person/corp for 15 minutes. you also have 2 months(its 2 months right?) of them having kill rights on you.
the risk/consequences of afk hauling? dying.

Evil,
the risk/consequences of afk hauling, or hauling in general is loss time. ISk = Time. How much time does it take to make XX isk that I lost. People loose time, and it is fustrating. Its fustrating if you mine a week straight and lose it to some pirate. All that time is now wasted because you have nothing to show for it.But loss and risk is part of the game.
I dont have any problems with the Jihad goonswarm.
Now suicide gankers on the other hand are an issue I do have some concerns with. First off, if the suicide ganking is done with some alt then the security hit does not matter because its just a disposable alt, so there is no risk. The aggro time really does not matter. And How many haulers are going to go get in a combat ship and come back to seel tier revenge? The hauler is probably alone and way from friends/corpmates. And furthermore, if he did come back, would he be able to get the people who took his stuff that survived, or would he just be able to go after the alt who blew his ship up?
Really no risk there for the suicide gankers.
The only way there is risk is if the ganker and his crew were not alts and were in real corps. Then they would risk retaliation of course.
But where is the risk when suicide gankers do the suiciding with alts?
I admit that I havent researched this enough so I cant say what percentage doing this are alts and what percentage are main toons.
But you must admit that with the use of alts doing this activity the risk in minimal.

Maybe all alt's should start with a sec status of -5, I dunno but I do aggree that using alt's to suicide gank is ghey and lame.
A lot of people point out that people recycle alts to this, ie they create an alt for suicide ganking and when the alt reaches -5 then they delete the alt and start again, this is considered an exploit but I don't think CCP ban enough people for it.
It is very easy to stop this, all CCP have to do is once you delete an alt, if you make a new alt, then this alt will inherit the security status of the old one.
This wouldn't be very hard to code and would get rid of the problem completely.

The problem with ideas like these is CCP will never allow them because anything that penalizes an alt makes buying a second {and third} account less attractive and it is all about the dollars and Euros.
In other words, CCP wants alts to be a big advantage so you will buy more accounts. It is no different than "buffbots" in other games. Companies will allow them to not only exist but allow their owners to have huge advantages by using them.

In other words, CCP wants alts to be a big advantage so you will buy more accounts. It is no different than "buffbots" in other games. Companies will allow them to not only exist but allow their owners to have huge advantages by using them.
Welcome to the business side of MMO's. Cold and harsh isn't it?
You're not thinking this through, are you? If you can't do something with an alt on one account, the sensible thing is to buy a new account. Constraining activities on any account only furthers the agenda to buy new ones.

What exactly is the point of your thread? Apart from either 1) bragging about it, which is kinda lame as 750m in a hauler gank is not really worth mentioning value wise or 2) fueling the flames that those poor (n stupid) souls who get ganked sprout onto these forums.

edit: I did read through the thread, and the fact that the loot was destroyed in the process makes this thread even more pointless. If everyone would post on the forums wherever they blow up something worth over 750m, we would get drowned in bragging :P
As for the convo.. its real nice. I never managed to get a love letter myself during my time in high sec ganking.. which made me sad to be honest. I guess i just looked too prefessional for them to try :P I got a wardec tho.. ironically enough it was because of a lousy medium control tower, and never from the guys who lost multiple billions.
Well basically I only started doing a bit of ganking lately and found that it can be very profitable and a lot of fun, I really enjoyed this even though on this occasion the main loot got destroyed.
But really I decided to post it because lately nearly every thread on the forums related to someone whining about being ganked, so I thought it would make a nice change to have someone gloating about ganking another player
Maybe it will encourage someone to lay down their miner or put away their hauler and experience a different part of the game

Beginner's luck. Its generally rare to have such lucrative ships now, since people are a lot more careful and since there are campers camping every gate now, so the few stupid guys get caught usually well before they could reach you :P Contrary to popular belief, precautions and/or not using the autopilot can ensure safe travels through high sec.

So you thought, that because people whine that much about ganking already, it would be nice to fuel their whines by stories about how great ganking is. :) 10/10 on logic there dude.

You are either just a hobby ganker, or mentally hindered in some way. You realize, that the more people do what you obviously plan on doing, the less money you will ever make from it?
High sec ganking needs discouragement, if anything.. ATM its way too easy and everyone does it. This is bad for those who do it seriously as there is a lot more competition, just as it is bad for the victims as well, as there are a lot more people dying to it as well. --------------------------------------------- *Comments in this post are mine and mine only* |

There is a lot of mention of having a scout for a hauler. Please inform me as to what this scout must look for when jumping into say Jita? A lot of ships hanging around the gate? - there are always ships hanging around in Jita. So please enlighten me what this scout is doing?

I am going to go out on a limb here and take a guess that all of the kills posted were people on autopilot...
This really is a non-issue IMO. If you use autopilot you are effectively playing in 'AFK mode'. When I started playing this game, actually BEFORE I started playing this game, the first thing I did was read the player guide, and in there I read this: "Don't play the game in AFK mode. This game is not designed with this kind of playing style in mind and you should NEVER consider your ship and character safe while being away from your computer."...
How hard is it to understand this? It is not like people are using any sort of exploit, this is an intended gameplay style, and is fully supported by CCP! Please stop the whining people! If you are all sad and emo'd up because you were stupid and lost your imaginary things, maybe EVE is not the game for you. -=^=-

I don't really understand the "don't play in afk mode" argument. Travelling in empire is, for the most part, a very boring thing to do. It is a chore, a means to an end, and can't really be a group activity like mining or something. If CCP didn't want anyone to ever go AFK, they wouldn't have autopilot at all.
The term "exploit" seems to be thrown around a lot. As I understand it, an exploit is any behavior such that that behavior involves the use of game mechanics in a way that CCP never intended and that benefits the player significantly. However, CCP changes its position on exploits. At first, the trade window lag scam wasn't an exploit, and then it was. At first, the recent overview exploit wasn't an exploit, and now it is. I wouldn't go as far as to say suicide ganking is an exploit, but I think CCP unfairly subsidizes it through insurance.
Either way, whenever I think I might get suicide ganked, I'll make sure to put 1000000 bookmarks in with my cargo.

I call "BS" on this one, Ioci. As a hauler pilot, I make low-sec runs all the time. I lose ships frequently, it's a cost of doing business with low-sec. Really, if it weren't for the pirates camping the low-sec/high-sec gates I wouldn't have a job because everyone would empty the market before I got there. I agree that you can't beat a well put together gate camp without strategy, but there is no such thing as the perfect camp.
Most suicide ganks do happen on autopiloted targets, it's one of the things people look for - slow ships warping in 15km from the gate. This allows the ganker time to move in and scan the target while still having enough to gank if the target is worth it.
Even if it's a matter of ganking camps on the other side of the gate in high-sec, anyone able to AFFORD that much morphite, let alone contemplate shipping it any distance at all should know how to static tank a hauler to survive long enough for CONCORD to arrive.
If I'm shipping more than 50M in cargo I ALWAYS have a buddy fly recon for me. If I'm shipping more than 1M in cargo and suspect danger I ALWAYS have a buddy fly recon for me.
Any friendless misanthrope can hire a recon pilot. Hell, I'll do it if they're in Gallente space and make it worth my while.
This was a lot of valuable cargo insufficiently protected, that's the point, and it should serve as a warning to other hauler pilots. Someone had a Suicide Ganker Career guide that every hauler pilot should read BEFORE moving massive amounts of vulnerable cargo.

After a few months there they could return to the safe Empire space and breath out. However, the paranoia and the securitymeasures they have adopted from their stay in deep space will be (hopefully) so deeply rooted inside them, that they will (hopefully) follow the same routines from deep space after their return.
