Very difficult. Approx 1 year of missionrunning for missionrunner with good activity (4+ h of missions per day). Or let's put it this way, it's approx 200 level 4 combat storylines. For more casual playstyles it should take 2 to 3 years.

Have you done the cosmos missions, and data center missions? The cosmos missions are mostly pretty quick, and give a decent standing boost. Haven't done the data centers myself.

noob question....
what will happen if you reach the 9.90 faction standing? Maybe my main has something to look for, as he has currently a standing of 9.85

Edited by: Rezerwowy Pies on 04/04/2008 13:54:20 i have 10 faction standing (well probably something around 9.9999) and its quite long to get from 9.90 to 10.0, but achieve 9.90 from 0 is longer ;)
Its around ~15 lvl4 combat missions per day for around 8 months (if you want it really fast).

Edited by: FT Diomedes on 04/04/2008 14:38:46 It does take quite a while. I used to be able to play a lot, but I have been in military training for the past few months and have only been able to play sporadically. I think I am right around 9.79 with Gallente now. I am not sure how many more storylines it will take. The worst is when you run 16 missions in a day and then get Materials for War for your storyline.
I haven't done the Gallente Cosmos missions yet, due to lack of concentrated time. ------------

If you are after faction standings, and only those then finding lev 4 hauling agent in relatively 'dead end' branch of starsystems and 'combat division' storyline agent as nearest of them will give you most 'combat' storylines and you can get em as fast as you can chain those hauling missions. Nowdays it's ofc a bit trickier as some of the hauling ones love to give out mining missions also.
Hauling is boring and nonrewarding activity tho. Best ship for lev 4 hauling missions is agility/speed rigged viator (fully expanded, it has 7k m3 of room that is most what regular lev 4 hauling missions give out and it's reasonably agile/fast in warp).

im currently at 9.64 & its going up 0.02 per storyline. its taking far longer than expected. Done almost all cosmos, so its just a matter of ploughing on.
Ill get there soon tho

Does the connections skill count when trying to get the faction ships? |

no the connection still does not count.....
an easy way to get storylines fast are to get some lvl 4 R&D agents and then run missions on the side and then you can casually run missions and also do the quick R&D missions in about 5 minutes and it gets you coser to a lvl 4 mission faster. I've been playing for about a year and my standing is 9.36 with gallente and i definitely have not done more than an hour of mission any day in the last 3 months so you dont have to do missions for 4+ hours per day

I'd say that a combination of courier missions and COSMOS agents is fastest. No idea how to fit R&D agents into that. But if you have minimal activity for a while, they sure don't hurt.

took me about three months (about a month combat lvl 4 and two months lvl 4 courier) I find courier mish faster (you can do it semi afk too) because you get more storylines that way, I usually target to do a storyline mish a day. Doing the cosmos mishes helps too.

You are almost half way there.
Because of the way standings increases work it gets harder to increase your standings as you get closer to a perfect 10.
The effort needed to get from 5.0 to 7.5 is the same as the increase needed to get from 7.5 to 8.75. Getting from 8.75 to 9.375 takes the same effort again.
Assuming an average faction standings increase of 4% per storyline mission, you will need another 60 storyline mission to get to 9.90: that is over 1000 more missions in total.
You can get a faction ship many times over from the LP store before you can get if from those special offers.

At 9.90 the faction ship offers are up in each faction, the caldari one is the navy raven.

The connections skill did seem to count for me. I was able to get both Battleship offers from the Gallente and Minmatar with a standing of 9.89 & 9.88 before skills, with connections 4.
From what I could tell, the UI will round your true standing up or down to the nearest two decimal places so while it may say 9.90 you may actually have a 9.896 standing, and the agent will not speak to you.
For Gallente, it took me 26 storyline missions to go from ~9.46 to 9.89 (9.90 after connections).
For Minmatar, I went from ~9.37 to 9.88 (9.90 after connections) in 34 storyline missions.

Personally achieved 10.0 with caldari navy but I do understand thats impossible, would more likely be a rounded up value. I was such a mishaholic
I miss the standing, but then again I never got rewarded for the effort.

If I understand the mechanics correctly, getting from 9.00 to 9.90 should take you as long as it took to get from 0.00 to 9.00 - so you are almost halfway

effortless way to storyline missions
get 5 lvl 3 R& D agent afk the missions - mostly trit or short courier (in a shuttle). You get a storyline every 3 days.
Add in lvl 4 grind/cosmos you add more. It is a slow process whatever way you look at it

Its interesting im still grinding away the missions when i can, so far ive improved my standings a little but its still going to take me sometime. Not sure how the R&D storylines work because i thought they didnt give you standings or do they? hmmm...

I had 9.9 with caldari a while but now im running for minnie so its going down again but I dont mind as I got the bpcs first. Anyway those very last few points up are really slow. I did at least one, more likely two, storylines that didnt even change the visible standing in char sheet.

R&D missions do not give any standings increases. However, R&D missions do count towards the 16 mission counter for a storyline mission.
Since only storyline missions provide faction standings increases, that is what you need.
R&D missions are insanely easy. So can supliment your regular mission running. The fact that you only get one R&D mission per agent per day limits there usefulness.
If you want to power grind faction standings, then power grind courier missions to get storyline missions as frequently as possible.

A few weeks ago I got the Navy Vexor offer, but my Gallente Standing was only 9.1x (can't remember the precise number) before adding the Connection skill... so yes, the connection skill DO count.
