CCP must just love missle/drone pilots.
They gave us a nice new BC to play with. What no tier 3 drone ship. Damn. No missle tier 3 ship either? WTF?
Atleast we still have the drake. Your nerfing the drake too?
Thanks for the love guys. Really. I'm so sick of hearing how missles and drones are over powered.
Well atleast the new BC's are good at killing all those mission runners. I mean how often to you see missle or drone ships running mission? Oh, yeah all the time. |

The new Drake stats are easily in line with the other Tier 2 Battlecruisers. Honestly the changes do not bother me since I can still pull off 80k + Tank with a warp Disruptor, 2 BCU's and Heavy Missiles. I will continue to fly my Drake after them and it will still be a damn well dangerous ship.
I am also pleased that in the same report that first mentioned the Drake Nerf also stated that the Caracal, Cerberous, Kestral and Nighthawk are on the receiving end of Buffs. As for the Naga as a Missile lover I was saddened by its new role but I can not argue with its results. I was skeptical at first but it seems to have come into its own.

The Naga did come into its own, and can fit one helluva tank for a T3 BC and sacrifice nothing for it.
I do wish it was still the torpedo boat. I would've trained torps and Caldari cruisers just for the ability to lob 8 bonused torps at somebody. |

As nice as the naga is those who specialized in missles and did not chase anything in the way of guns have a lot of training to do just to get it on par with other ships they already fly.
Buffs to cruisers is not so good either as the blackbird is the only one worth using of the group and it's for ecm reasons.
I wouldn't hate the drake nerf so much if they would have just reduced a few stats instead of changing the bonuses and in turn the role in plays. Gila > Drake is now offical. |

Pretty much this.
I assume CCP feels missile users have been adequately compensated by stealth bombers and the various spear-chucking ships strewn across the races: Khanid ships, Gurista ships, Lach, Huginn, Typhoon, and to a lesser extent all those minmatar ships that traditionally fit neuts in their utility slots, but could fit launchers.
Not that I find this to be an incredible solace myself, but having to make an educated guess that's what I assume they'd say. Regardless of the reasoning though, I don't think any torp, cruise, or capital launcher pilot would delight in any new hulls being throw there way as it stands. Outside of the "ooh shiny and new," value the weapons themselves are anywhere from "of narrow use," to "completely broken," in terms of effectiveness.
Personally, I think priority one for launchers is to have the larger variety work on equal sized targets with t2 ammo. Rage torps and cruise missiles should not be useful only in bashing structures. XL torps should not be speed tanked by a capital ship moving at the speed of continental drift.
Ed: As far as drones go, I think they're in a similar situation (ie. lots of ships with extensive drone bays, a few off-racial and faction ships with a drone bonus, and their own ship class in carriers) but rather than being ineffective, not that drones don't have their drawbacks, are not provided more hulls for different reasons. I could go on about that, but I think one look at how popular the ishtar is, why that is, and where it's drawbacks lie should give you an idea. |

The things you are talking about with this make sense for those who use missles as a secondary weapon system. Doesn't help so much for those who are stacked in missle skills and little to no gun skills. It would be nice if a mod was made to help explosion radius even if the increase is very minimal.
On the drone aspect the popularity of the ishtar seem to be more due to lack of a good bc that use drones. Yes the Myrm is ok but when it's stuck with 75 m3 compared to 125m3 of a ishtar or gila it's pretty sad to those who are drone heavy in thier training. Even a BC without guns that can use 5 heavy drones would be nice maybe even 6 drones . Could still have high slots but use for neuts/nos/drone upgrades things of that nature. Six sentries with two sentry rigs wouldn't have made for a nice sniper boat.
For those of us who are gurista specialist and focused on both missles and drones it's been a very sad few months. From the forums I've read people already seemed to be against drones when it comes to the larger ships for pvp purposes. ((cheap neut domi is the only decent option without dropping down to cruiser size)) Those who are gurista heavy would rather fly the gila over the myrm and now with the drake nerf the gila is better then any bc we could chose from. Seems to be a huge case of no love in the BC class of ships for us. |

Your missing the point of the thread. I think the Naga is great it's just too bad that you need guns skills to make it great. I have no issue with the caldari line up as a whole. Only that those who are not trained in guns are getting the shaft. |

The tier 3 BCs have fairly niche roles, none of these roles work well with slow drones or missiles. Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

If you have hybrid skills then you have the entire gallente line up to chose from. Plus you use the same secondary gun skills as all other guns. Missles have not of this. Again this is not caldari ship specific. We are talking apples here and your talking oranges. |

Also, For gallente it's the same thing; generally the droneboats out perform the turret ships and this once it's a GOOD gallente turret ship.
Why didn't you ask for a missile Oracle, some of their ships are missile based? You can ofcourse try your hardest to sound fair, reasoned and logical but all we're really hearing is "bawww, i didn't train Hybrids". Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Ok I'll have to spell it out for the 4 month old player:
Lots of us have ships of all 4 races open to us. Many pilots are 50mil sp and higher now.
We use the same support skills to fly all races. (( core skills )) Our only cross training is the armor/shield aspect.
Those who train guns to the point of being good have the support skills for the other 2 types of guns trained up.
If you training 2 weapon types odds are it's gun/missles or gun/drones. This is the vast majority of eve players. (( rough estimate is over well over 90% ))
The other less then 10% of us train missles/drones and not guns. Having the option to through some guns on a ship for us is the differance between max secondary skills with great t2 weapons or sad t1's with bad secondary skills since the sp has been used in drones/missles.
The last three months has been here gun users have a buff to hybrids, here gun users here are 4 new bc's, and it's now been followed by hey missle users have a nerf. For those who are guns and use missles and drones for support or are well mixed between guns and missles not an issue. For the last small percentage of eve players it's been a big **** off from ccp. Merry christmas and happy new year.
Guns are already the prefered weapon and many of the forums on this site talk about how missles are not what they use to be and drones don't even get looked at. I'm only pointing out that something that was already unblanced in favor of guns has become even more unbalanced.
I'm not too personally effected due to having near 70mil sp but it's pretty sad that they are pushing new players away from some cool aspects of the game even more then before.
The simple part of this is we have ships that can do any mix of drone/guns, guns/missles and missle/drones in every class of high sec combat ship except destroyers and battle cruisers. Destroyers are all guns with no love for missles or drones but who cares they are not hard to train for with guns and only have one modle. BC's on the other hand have three tiers now where drone/missle users have to choose either missle heavy or drone heavy and since the drone heavy is also a gun heavy ship it leaves only the drake which is now getting a nerf. |

Well, thank God they aint gone and done it. Cruise? Hahaha, good one. Torps are freeking horrible without being heavily bonused, even with max missile support skills.
Look at the Manti. In order to do anything worthwhile at all with torps it has to have: Gûá10% bonus to torpedo explosion velocity and flight time per level (So a 50% percent bonus to both expl velocity and flight time at lvl 5, and yes it's needed) Gûá20% bonus to torpedo missile velocity per level (that's a 100% bonus at lvl 5, again, needed) GûáPlus one Painter (minimum) and at least one Rigor fitted too.
Golem? Same kinda deal: Gûá10% bonus to cruise missile and torpedo velocity per level ( a 50% bonus). Gûá10% bonus to cruise missile and torpedo explosion velocity per level (50% bonus). Hello, this bonus seems to repeat itself in ships that don't automatically suck, with Torps. Why's that I wonder? Gûá 2 Rigors, 2 painters, T2 Javelins And it aint exactly pvp economical.
Why not just fix torps instead of creating ships requiring massive bonuses in order to work against anything other than a structure or Super Capital. Every other BS sized weapon in the game, intended for use against Battleships does not require 2 rig slots, 2 midslots (painters), and these massive bonuses to successfully engage it's intended target class now do they?
Tldr: BS missile tier 3 BC? Screw that. Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. - H.L. Mencken |

If you're talking about PvE, then I think you can afford to stick to your single weapon type skills. If you do any sort of PvP, you're very likely going to need to skill up in all weapons.
I started as Caldari/hybrid, and reluctanly skilled up in missiles, because they are that much better in PvE. Missile flingers have the Drake; they don't need a T3 BC. Period, end of story.
So, please, stop with the whinefest about not having a T3 missile boat. Caldari hulls are hybrid hulls, too, not just missiles. |

I use the RS for pvp as I use it for almost anything. I much prefer having one set of skills all level 5 then having them all over the place. Same effect happens with my implants. When I look in eft at all level 5 compared to my toon it gets less out of the ship not more.
As to the raven from the other poster I prefer the neut domi, scorp, navy scorp, for my pvp.
I'm not suggesting that we need a drone tier three BC or a missle one. Only that CCP has been doing a hell of a job at buffing guns and those of us who are gurista pilots are now even more disadvantaged when it comes to flying anything in the BC class ship. Only decent option we had was the drake and hello nerf. |

Personally i'm perfectly happy with the Tier 3's as they are. Making one of them a drone boat would result in effectively a less tanky (though less expensive) Ishtar, which would do well to survive long enough for heavies to actually reach their target.
Giving them torps would be entertaining, but bombers cost less and have marginally better chance of surviving engagements so aside from novelty value people would just keep on using them instead. Not to mention the issues already discussed that BS-sized missiles have in pvp.
All my opinion of course, same as anyone else on here

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with torps, they're a very powerful anti-BS weapon, and pretty good against Drake spam too.
The problems come when you start mounting them on the wrong ship... such as a flimsy t3 BC that cannot survive a brawling match against a BS or t2 BC, and cannot use torps effectively against anything smaller...
In any case, there was never the option to use 8 damage- or ROF-bonused torps on the Naga, it was on Sisi with a velocity bonus only. |

Just the fact that you call it "The better stuff" shows the unbalance and that is the very aspect this thread is pointing out.
I also have no interest in a tier 3 missle bc but it would be nice if they gave the drone/missle combo some love in this class in future updates. Maybe if/when they add faction bc's we will see a myrm with 125 drone bandwidth or a drake that can run a set of medium drones. |

Probably at the end of several target painters.
Torps are a sloppy mess that require so much tackle and painting on a target that they're best used for light shows and maybe the occasional ambush. Even with the extra sig from the apparently obligatory LSE's and shield rigs the thought of them being "pretty good" against drake spam is laughable- especailly when you remember that they're *not* mid-range anymore. Killing one or two drakes that you nabbed at a gate? Sure. Blob-on-blob? You're going to get your battleships into torp range? Are your blasterthrons going to come along, too?
Meanwhile, a "Gurista specialist" is annoyed none of the new empire ships fit her intentionally bastardized skill setup? Film at 11? Naga with missiles would have been nothing more than a cute diversion before you put the hybrids back on, at least without a good bit of adjustment to the current missile setup. Talos having *any* drones is a *huge* advantage over the other ships, making it an actual drone boat would just have been stupid seeing as CCP had otherwise finally managed to get a whole ship class "mostly right" for the intended niche. |

Sure, if you're firing torps against Gurista frigates, then you may find them lacking.
Torps are a battleship weapon, designed to be used against other battleships. The only additional tackle that they require is a painter - web support is not necessary against almost all BS - and even the painter is unnecessary against six of the twelve BS. |

Did anyone actually try the torp Naga when it was on SISSI? It sucked hard. The tier 3 BC only have about 30k EHP. That's enough to roll up, shoot a few times, and then GTFO. The rail Naga was the best choice. |

I think people are still missing the two main points of what I started this thread:
1. BC balance is way off now when comparing the weapons skills aspect. (( was already bad for drones ))
2. Missle/drone combo is already the rarest used. Mainly due to it being so niche. It's sad that hybrids got buff, All guns got tier 3 bc's and the drake gets a small nerf all in the same time period. (( the timing was awful ))
I have no issue with all 4 tier 3 BC's being guns. (( it just would have been nice to see them released with faction BC's at the same time ))
I'm also a bit WTF that ccp changed the drake before dealing with the hurricane. |

Yes, this is a bit off as I believe the math being used ignores how speed of ship effects the landed dps.
I believe this guy is serious and is eft warrioring and leavning out a few aspects.
With that said faction torps with a tp and a flare rig can do pretty good in pvp against big/slow targets.
They are bad in pve if in a non-bonused ship. |

The rule of sniping is that if you miss, you are dead. That is exactly what the Tier 3 BCs are. If they can't kill what they are shooting at quickly then they are dead. Generally speaking they can usually kill what they are shooting at before their target is able to return fire. Plus the Naga has a pretty good tank from what I've seen and can still reach near 1000 DPS under ideal circumstances with it's tank. |

About the only way I see to like these in pvp not needing your pve-ish dual tp setup to make em work well (outside of a bonused golem...which still needs 2 of them imo). Well outside of covert gangbangs when the bait recon calls in assloads of bombers. 8 bombers, 3 luanchers per..somethings gonna give with 24 fish all with damage bonii out the ass if CO 5 and well skilled in missile support. |

Caldari should really be pure Shield/Missile. At least somebody should, given that it's a whole separate skill TREE.
There should be missile destroyers/tier 3 bcs for Caldari. Caldari pilots who want a missile anti-frigate boat are forced to use Caracals; and Caldari pilots who want to use suicide gank torps are left with nothing while every other race has a suicide ganker.
Screw drones, they're an adjunct source of damage that everyone uses, and their main niche is protecting battleships from frigates. There shouldn't be any ships that rely on drones as their main source of damage as it essentially makes combat an AFK afair for their pilot. |

Naga used to be a missile boat. It was the worst performing of the T3 battlecruisers by a VERY wide gulf. Battleship missile weapons are horrifically broken.
By the way, the Drake isn't being 'nerfed'; it's losing a bit of EHP in the term of resists but it's still going to have higher buffer than other BCs AFAIK (like Hurricane), but it's going to have more DPS and more range. I don't agree that this is a nerf. |

Just... no. Missile boats are a "perk" for Caldari, not the sum total of the Caldari design philosophy. Yes, the "theme" has been watered down a bit but it isn't because there's *too much* useful hybrid access, it's partly because of not nearly enough and partly because they've never figured out how to handle the whole "superior electronics" idea they had (especially when the answer to "crap we screwed up when we added the Falcon" was "screw up ECM even more"). Boo-hoo, you HAVE to use a Caracal hull for cruiser-size missile-based anti-frigate. Well, assuming you mean long-range T1 cruiser-size missile-based anti-frigate with light missiles, because you should be able to cause at least a little bit of concern with an HML Blackbird, and a good bit more if you move up to a Rook. Sure, the Cerberus does it better, but does CONCORD come out and pod you for not using one?
Also, as far as I can tell, *nobody* can use "suicide gank torps," or at least nobody seems too keen on whatever it takes to make it work. You do realize suicide ganking has existed for a lot longer than the T3s, right? How many "suicide torp" Ravens have you heard about? Maybe caracals back when *they* could throw (much more effective) torps at an indy and hope they land but...
I'll let the drone pilots comment on getting drones to do what you want, since apparently I haven't figured out whatever magical button I need to press that will automatically spit out replacement drones and tell them to all go to new targets... or are you talking about a couple PVE missions? The ones where all the drones do is save you hitting 'F1' a bunch because even the idiot drone AI can't screw the triggers up?

... you don't say...
The class divide between Caldari Hybrids and Caldari Missiles is a perk... lolwut...? You mean the same sort of perk that makes split weapon ships like the Merlin so popular? The designers call it versatility, but that's not versatility. Versatility is 4 high slots, 4 turrets slots, 4 launcher slots. What they have is a DIVIDE. If they wanted to give Caldari a perk, they would give them more ships.
As for the lack of missile destroyers, yes it is an issue for new players (who I get the feeling are really neglected in this game). When you start the game, you make under 500k isk per hour doing level 1s (assuming you're not a total noob flying with a lolfit) and it might take you a while to afford and skill for a Cruiser if you only play a few hours a day. When I first started playing, I wanted to do missiles with Caldari, so I used a Kestrel and wanted to upgrade to a Caracal, but I was in that Kestrel for a long time plodding along at a rather unimpressive rate. On another character (Amarr), I was able to go from Punisher to Coercer, since both used lasers. Doing level 1s in a destroyer is MUCH faster. I can alpha 2 frigates each weapon cycle with the longest-range lasers I could fit with barely any skills on that Amarr alt. See the problem?
As for the problem with suicide torps being inferior, it really shouldn't be solved by simply ignoring them and handing more hulls to non-torp ships. It should be solved by fixing torps and handing them the ship.
Finally, the drone users are able to AFK rat for hours on end last I heard. Just drop drones and collect bounties. Maybe this has been fixed, but it's really irrelevant. What niche do drones serve? They protect a ship's deadspots. They provide consistent DPS at any range, and have the disadvantage of being targetable. What's the point of having drones as a main weapon if you don't have any high-slot DPS of your own? You might as well fit missile launchers and get the same effect of having consistent dps regardless of range. |

This thread could use some blue light.
We have to admit creating the Naga was possibly one of the most challenging ship balancing task we had to tackle so far. Not only because finding a proper role for it without overlapping with the Talos too much, while still remaining effective was crazy difficult, but mainly as we knew that no matter which kind of direction we picked it would still generate a heated debate among the community.
The core problem here lies with the Caldari combat philosophy, or at least how it is externally perceived. Some believe Caldari to be missile based, other hybrids based. And to be honest, that is quite a logical assuption to do so, as most of the Caldari hybrid hulls are quite underused (or were before Crucible), and the most popular ships remain missile based (Caracal, Drake, Raven).
As designers, we can tell Caldari have three main points going for them as a race and that is, missile, hybrids and ECM. To be an all-rounded Caldari pilot, one must realize all aspects have to be considered and learned, just like, for example, a pilot has to consider training for hybrids, drones and dampening to master most of the Gallente tech 1 ships.
However, we are players as well, and we can freely admit only having one side of the coin for a new expansion is indeed frustrating. Favor the Naga as hybrid, as missile pilots feel shafted. Make it missile based and hybrid users will hunt your family down with torches and pitchforks. It is, in essence, a no win situation, no matter how much you try to please the player base.
The first iteration of the Naga attempted to please all interested parties by having both missile and hybrid bonues, but as the feedback quickly shown, it was quite a failure, as it was not achieving any specific role and lacked a purpose.
So, in the end, we had to go for the option that made the most logical sense. Tier 3 battlecruisers are supposed to be mobile, heavy damage support for fleets and hybrids were the most appealing to reach such goal. Torpedoes are too short range based for a hull that frail, while cruise missiles have their own issues for long range combat.
It is not to say cruise missiles are fine and that we don't want to tweak them, but the Naga is, and will remain a hybrid ship as it best fits its role. The issue with missiles in general needs to be and will addressed, but that is a separate discussion altogether, that we will happily discuss with the player base when we come down to it.

On the contrary, this was the issue at hand. Perhaps I read too much into the OP. My inference was not a whine about no torps on the naga, but that tier3 bc's highlighted something we already knew about large missile and drone weapon systems: that they perform very poorly in pvp compared to their turret counterparts (stealth bombers not withstanding for torps, but their bonus literally props up the weapon system).
Looking forward to the missile discussion when you publish it. |

I'd say that you are reading things into the OP that aren't really there, and that including the failed Naga design in any commentary about missile ships does nothing but muddy the issue. Basically: - With regards to the Naga: Ytterbium more than adequately explained why they chose a turret based ship. - With regards to missiles: Ytterbium promised more upcoming dialog for addressing the deeper issues relating to missiles.
I'm really curious how they plan to address some of the underlying issues with missiles.

Don't misconstrue my posting to be some commentary on the naga as a turret ship. I've made it abundantly clear that it should be that way and I like it that way. My commentary was simply to point out that it wouldn't work any other way and that indicates a problem with torpedoes and cruise missiles. I was also quick to applaud his promise of an upcoming missile discussion.
I think i'll have to wait for that dialogue to have my questions answered. |

Part of the problem is that Missiles are a huge tree for something someone is supposed to train alongside the huge gunnery tree. If someone wants to cross-train Caldari... they essentially have to retrain every weapon support skill from scratch. Conversely, for Gallente, drones are used by everybody as they fulfill an essential role in PVE and PVP (even if you're not flying a dedicated drone boat). So really, all a pilot has to do to cross-train Gallente is work on Hybrids and Damps.
In practice, most players only train 1 type of weapon: turrets or missiles because of the way the skills are set up that they do not benefit eachother in the slightest. However, turret users have far more options. Pure hybrid-users have access to all of Gallente and half of Caldari, while pure missile users have access to half of Caldari. People who have both skills have access to everything, but that leaves out new players. |

Let me paraphrase you.
"I believe, as Caldari, that my skill training queue should be as straightforward as an Amarrian's. I want a world where all I have to do is show info on citadel torps and work through the checklist. I don't want to be like those Minmatar pilots who are confronted with a training queue which is bloated with missile skills, gunnery skills, shield skills. Oh, and poor them for having to train armour skills too. Ha ha, us Caldari, we got it easy with missile + shield." Ares you're a ways off. Missile ships are quite common, they're just not highly concentrated in one race aside from caldari where it's only 50%. Khanid ships, stealth bombers, combat recons, the typhoon, and gurista ships all use missiles as primary weapons. That almost equals the distribution of hybrid weapon ships: Half caldari, all gallente, and serpentis. It is close to the number of laser ships, most amarr, sansha, and blood raider. It is also greater than the number of projectile ships, the vast majority of minmatar ships and angels. So, all in all, that's a really poor choice of argument and it really detracts from the more appropriate subject: why battleship+ sized missiles are not very appealing on ships other than stealth bombers.

Because they trade away too much applied DPS. Cruise trades it for raw (but mostly useless) range while torps trade it for EFT DPS numbers. I'd say that fixing both of them is relatively straight forward (and I have ideas, obviously), but I figure its best to leave that to CCP.

Honestly the only reading that can be done is figuring out which way CCP wants to lean on the balancing act. I'm sure that any communication by CCP will be fascinating to read, but whining by the players isn't a whole lot more than just that.

Honestly the only reading that can be done is figuring out which way CCP wants to lean on the balancing act. I'm sure that any communication by CCP will be fascinating to read, but whining by the players isn't a whole lot more than just that. -Liang

Ha ha, us Caldari, we got it easy with missile + shield."
I fly minmatar (I switched from Caldari quickly when I realized that they weren't a good race to start with). It's not as complicated as you make it seem. Only a handful of Minmatar ships REQUIRE missile launchers for decent DPS. Most are good enough with a utility in the high instead. Armor tanking is 2 necessary skills (hull upgrades, hull repair) and 4 adjunct ones (x armor compensation). Shield tanking is 2 necessary skills (shield operation, shield management) and 6 adjunct ones (tactical shield manipulation, shield compensation, x shield compensation). There is not nearly as many skills involved in branching between armor and shield tanking as there is branching between guns and missiles (especially battleship guns and missiles). Minmatar don't need guns/missiles to be able to access most of their ships. Caldari do.
P.S. If you could be 100% efficient in 1 year, or 100% efficient in 2 years what would you choose? That's the situation. It's pointlessly imbalanced. It doesn't take skill to train queues, just time. In this regard, the races should be balanced. |

A ton of missile skills?Compared to a battleship turret?
I think not, you only have to get a V in launcher operation launcher and spec
As opposed to gunnery V small V spec IV, medium V Spec IV, large V spec IV and sharpshooting V and whatever the tracking skill is (depending on long/short range). Per turret type. |

CCP Ytterbium wrote:This thread could use some blue light. Crap, made a wall of text Well, hope that helps a bit no matter what.
Finally! hope some "special caldari missile user" are going to read this!!
thx

You made them mobile and heavy damage alright... You made a battlecruiser hull with cruiser stats and battleship weaponry. I have read countless battlereports mentioning tier 3 BC fleets jumping into a bigger hostile fleet camping a gate and just burning away with minimal casaulties.
I must admit the tier 3 battlecruiser fill nicely into a niche and CCP have been added something nice to the game, but at the same time these battlecruiser have some stats making them able to easily cream every shipclass from cruiser to battleships.
Tier 3 BC's are battlecruisers with way bigger weaponry than normal. - Why are they so fast they can they outrun even cruisers?
One of the parameter to balance the dps from battleships is their low scan resolution. - Why can tier 3 BCs lock even faster than the other battlecruisers? - Better lock range is fine, but not better scan resolution.
The signature of tier 3 BC's are to protect from battleship weaponry. - Why didn't you adjust the acceleration and agility so smaller ships actually have a chance of catching up without getting slaughtered or left behind?
You gave the tier 3 battlecruisers 8 large weapons providing them the largest available subcap alpha in-game - Why didn't you settle for 7 guns and give at least the tier 3 battleships a firepower advantage?
As mentioned the tier 3 battlecruisers was a good choice from CCP, however the stats implemented declines any real drawbacks from these ships. Mobility and scan resolution like a battlecruiser would be a perfect balance with the battleship damage and cruiser size advantage. The only drawbacks would be reduced hitpoints and no tank bonus.
Having advantages to other battlecruisers in 5-10 areas is too much...

Not all of the missile supports apply to every missile. You can put together a hell of a bomber pilot for very little SP investment. I know. :)

Yeah, its not only faster to train (don't have to train supports to get T2 weapons) but its also 1.3M SP that doesn't need trained at all.

I agree with that, but when you consider how much more prolific turret ships are it's really not a terrible opportunity cost.
The matter of training a battleship-weapon-specific alt is really the only time where gun-spec prerequisites are a worthless time-sink. For everyone else, they're skill that would be trained anyway. |

Well, unless you're including stealth bombers and the lulzy minmatar/amarr missile frigates there aren't terribly many of those. Just the three gurista ships, two khanid, and half the caldari lineup. Even including stealth bombers I think hybrid ships easily outnumber launcher boats and lasers probably come fairly close given there are two pirate factions utilizing them. Projectiles may well be outnumbered by launchers (and are certainly -intended- to be supplemented by them), but the fact projectiles are often retrofitted on many off-platform ships likely balances this out. |

Who said anything about harder to train? That's completely idiotic and non-senseical. They're both perception/willpower skillsets, have the same training modifiers, and like every other skill in EVE they simply train for you - no input required except throwing them in the queue.
I think i've been careful to say, repeatedly, that missiles take fewer sp to train for and can be surgically trained for with much less time. As you say, that's a fact. The whole debate about missile and gunnery balance isn't the subject matter at hand.

Minmatar and Anmar have a few missile ships in their arsanal but they are clearly a specialisation.
Caldari are completly devided (A problem best seen in the electronic attack vessles and covert-opps tree missile frigates for covert-ops -> the stealth recon is a hybrid ship, and the battleship a missile ship again) . I understand you want to give both the hybrid and the missile pilots their peace of the pie, but as Caldari favor both missile and Hybrides could we at least get a few more hardpoints of each on the ships. I'd consider that a logical adaption of a race that has a 50% Missile/Hybrid fleet.
Not saying you should put 8 launcher hardpoints on a Rokh, but say 8 turret and 6 missile hardpoints (maybe a pennalty so the ships don't get abused for their different modulation [power/cpu and cap wise] and the other way arround], bonusses should stay as they are, so in base they stay hybrid or missile ships, though this would give a little more cohersion as a race, as now for newer players Caldari seem like 2 races and I hope the future hold more Merlin [as it's the TRUE Caldari ship] like dual weapon systems ships |

Why is it when people compare gunnery to missile training times they always include the support skills for gunnery and ignore them for missiles?
That was just to fit the turrets, you to train a Large Railgun II you need small hybrids, medium hybrid AND large hybrid five, plus spec IV in small and medium AND Sharpshooter V
...because if you don't you can't fit the damn turret, it won't let you. You add the support skills because you HAVE to have them.
Lets compare this to a cruise launcher.
Oh look, Launcher operation V Cruise missile V standard and heavy missile III.....
Its not like I wasn't giving them a fair shake.....those are just the prereqs. |

One launcher skill does not apply to unguided missiles in much the same way one gunnery skill does not apply to capless turrets. Valid argument that missile trained alts skill into their t2 large/med weapons marginally faster though. Yeah, its not only faster to train (don't have to train supports to get T2 weapons) but its also 1.3M SP that doesn't need trained at all. Quote: And what use is Controlled Bursts skill to minmatar? or Trajectory Analysis to amarr?
But thats an aside, my point is that the hue and cry from gunnery pilots about training times difference is usually pretty biased. When you factor in all support skills training times difference is very marginal.
And every comparison I see from missile users is similarly biased. Simple facts: I have 18M SP in gunnery to 11M SP in missiles. -Liang
I imagine when you say you have 18 mil in turret skils you are crosstrained in every turret type. There are 18 Turret types and 7 Lancher types in sub capital ships, yeah you got 7 more mil in Turret skills but if you have 11 more weapon systems. Compare the skill points you need for 7 turret systems to 7 launcher systems and you won't find that big a difference and its quite possible that the turrets are less skill intensive. Especially when you consider that to train long and short range versions of a turret weapon specialization you only need to take one skill to level 4 but to train long and short versions of a lancher system you need to train 2 different skills to level 5. |

Personally, I think that the Tier 3 battlecruisers should be the model for all battlecruisers.
They should all fit large weapons and have cruiser-class tanks. They should all have limited defenses against smaller ships. Their advantage over a BS is their mobility.
It would revitalize the BS role immediately - since they would be the only ships with all around power and survivability.
HACs would also have a role again, since they would be in the position of having excellent DPS, tracking and tank, at a higher cost. Right now, battlecruisers are way too cost effective vis-a-vis HACs.
It would make smaller ships a viable choice again - since they wouldn't constantly run into gangs of Drakes and Hurricanes. Also, those mobile Tier 3 battlecruisers need someone else to tackle and swat smaller stuff for them.
Right now, battlecruisers are too cost effective and too good at too many things. This needs to change. |

Fact: I can use all missiles. Fact: I can use all turrets. Fact: I have significantly more SP invested in gunnery than missiles Fact: It is easier to train a specific T2 missile platform than a specific T2 gun platform. Fact: You don't have to train the supports to 5 in order to use T2 large missile platforms Fact: Cross training all missile ships in the game requires less SP than cross training all gun ships. Fact: Missile performance plateaus earlier and has less total SP that can realistically be dedicated to it. Fact: Training one full turret tree is approximately equivalent to training the entire missile tree.

Turrets are the same way
This is the pre-requisite list for a long range T2 arty
gunnery V Sharpshooter V small projectile V Small are artillery spec IV Medium projectile V Medium artillery spec IV Large projectile V Spec IV (which is where a lot of people give up lol)
Oh you want auto-cannons on your tempest too? Assuming that you already trained the above... Motion Prediction V Small spec IV Meduim spec IV Large spec IV
all of those specs to four take about 4 days a pop mapped with +4s, motion prediction and sharpshooter 6 days...each.
Not to mention the joy of the rank 5 Large weapon skill....x3 if you are trying to cover all races. |

CCP Ytterbium wrote:This thread could use some blue light. Crap, made a wall of text Well, hope that helps a bit no matter what.
Also: Naga is actually a far better ship for sniper role than Talos or Megathron, it's actually almost perfect for the job while being less impressive with blasters where Talos is, the well deserved title of, undisputed king.

Standard Missile Optimization versus Artillery Optimization
Base Skill Missile Launcher Op(1x) Gunnery(1x)
Support Skills Missile Bombarment(2x) Rapid Firing(2x) Guided Missile Precision(5x) Motion Prediction(2x) Missile Projection(4x) SharpShooter(2x) Rapid Launch(2x) Surgical Strike(4x) Target Navigation Prediction(2x) Trajectory Analysis(5x) Warhead Upgrades(5x)
Fitting Skills Weapon Upgrades(2x) Weapon Upgrades(2x) Advanced Weapon Upgrades(6x) Advanced Weapon Upgrades(6x)
Weapon System Skills Standard Missile Launcher(2x) Small Projectile Turret(1x) Standard Missile Specialization(3x) Small Artillery Specialization(3x)
For Small Rail Spec or small Beam Spec you would add Controlled Bursts(2x) to the Gunnery support skills but that doesnGÇÖt really come close to matching the extra 5x skill that the Standard Missiles can use.

Reads like a round-about nerf to battlecruiser proliferation, at least for lower sp players. I'm not sure why they would inflate the aggregate sp required to be fully subcap proficient, but if tiericide leaves us with more viable ships then I could really care less about the former issue. Of course if you a dedicated bc pilot with minimal ship skills and all medium weapon systems trained this could be quite disruptive, not sure how common that is. |

Myth bolded.

The naga should have been a missile boat. For some reason people on here think that its a great ship, but fail to realize, the Talos can do the same and better...
The naga had a chance to be a good missile ship, but ccp taking the easy route, made it a gun boat instead.. Its take far less time to learn to fly a Talos than it does to learn Torps or cruise to lvl 5.
