Are these ships owned by people logged off in space? What happens if someone finds your logged-off ship and then takes it . . . where do you appear when you log back in?

Nah - those are ships the owner has ejected from. He's either floating aobut in his pod or got into another ship. SOme folkspark multiple ships in "safe spots" you see, so they cna change ship depending on job required - especially way out in 0.0 space with no stations about.
Obviously the problem is if your safe spot is found and then somebodyelse with the right skills hops into your parked ships and - voila!
Salvage.

think they might actually be abandoned ships, they ejected in their pods and went to a nearby station in shuttles to go do something, I'd assume.
Nice catch, anyway.

We where looking to do damage against the corp, they where camping the gates into the system as well. So the best thing to do at the time was to blow em all up

Safespots have never been and never will be 100% safe.
Back in the day when I did alot of hunting out in 0.0 I set up many cargodumps.
They consist simply of a bunch of secure cans anchored in nowhere space.
I however always considered the cans to be comprimised if I had been out of the system for more than 1 hour.
Thus, when I logged off out there I had a secondary safespot with no physical mass to find where I would quit so that I would never log back on and find a coupple of BS guarding my cans waiting for me.
I only ever left a ship in space once, it cost me the stabber as a bug moved it over downtime and I was in no mood to travel the 2bilion km into nothing to get my ship back in a hoarder.
I petitioned but the person who checked out the location didnt find my ship there, wich was odd as I could still find my ship on a 2% scan.
The day after I got the mess about my petition my stabber transformed into a newbieship, only reason the newbieship was there I guess is cos my stabber only had mining eq on it.
I supose I should have talked to a GM about the person who found my ship so close to my petition being answered but a stabber is a small thing and I had gotten over the loss already, besides as it had been hanging there for the better part of a week it was most probably some lucky explorer who earned himself a stabber :)

Safespots are rediculous, it makes it very hard to have a decent fight. Especially when they log off.
If it were up to me, when those black op frigs come out, when you log off, your ship should remain for about 5 minutes, so that the going to safespot - logging trick wont work as good anymore.
Actually, if it were truly up to me, you couldnt make safespots, or at least could only log in a station/at a planet/moon/sun/gate/roid belt(why?)/ basically anything anyone can warp to. This could also lead to the need to make those player built stations with hangars, so you can warp to it and log in a flash. Twould make things more strategic and less stupid.

Want a really good SafeSpot. Just create one temporary safe spot, then warp somewhere else from there and create another temp safespot, then warp somewhere else for there and create another temp safe spot, then warp to that safe spot and travel in any direction 2000km (or more if you have a couple MWDs. oh..
Though it will not matter when these elite ships come out that can warp to anything on the scanner.

Oh Mr nStuff, they safepoint was way off any line between planets, roid belts or gates. We had 150,000km to travel to get to it, but i do about 6.4km/s constant, so what the hell we went for it

If you have enough time and have nothing to do, you can find all safespots if you like. Its easy, but takes usually a looong time tho.

The Mook, you meen to say you flew 150000km to find those ships?
There must have been a way to getcloser than that.
There are some common ways to track down safespots relatively fast, doing 6.5km/s for 150000km is not one of them (even if you trip there only took about 6.5 hours).
Anyways there is a way to create a real safespot, a safespot you can not find, this method however meens flying out of scanner range from every possible point you can scan from.
I usually strive to place my safespots in space where I wont find any objects within maximum scanning range however thise are only fairly safe, I do however have one true safespot created by a bug, I got tossed about 200AU out from a point that was on the very edge of a system, I think I still have the BM somwhere but I never bothered to use it as it was created by a bug.
I hold on to it mainly for sentimental values :)

There is a simple way to make an unfindable safespot--make a safespot 10-20AU from anything else, then make ANOTHER safespot. These are basically unfindable... although technically in a few days of looking with MWDs someone could find you (they'd need like 6 equipped or something to move at any decent rate lol)

Fester that type of safe spot can be found as once you get within about 30 ish AU you will see the ship on your normal scanner and the ship will apear on your screen.

Can anyone here remember that weird event that was held, were secure containers were placed somewhere in the main systems, and when you found one, you got a password from a Polaris guy, and they were filled with goodies?
Well, during that event, we found a container anchored about 450.000 km from the closest warp target. So I went there. In an Armageddon, with 3 MWDs.
We were quite ****ed after we found out that the can belonged to a normal player, and was not part of the event
Ciao, Aronis!

Bosie.
That is true, however I have not left a ship unatended in space for a very long time (see earlier post) and I do not intend to start anytime soon.
Having my cargodumps compromized is however not a big problem as they are pasworded and I never hide there if hunters enter the system, Sure, they can go there and destroy the cans if they want but they will most probably pay more isk in ammo and torps than I loose in secure cans and loot/ore.
HAving a few friends out in CA teritory I have however chosen not to use my cargodumps since pre castor, I am however going to update myself if they are infact still in CA as of this last fallout, I may just head back out there to do some quality mining and hunting :)

What about solar system BMs? They're typically well outside scanner range from the outer planet, being at least 200AU or so from the sun. Indeed I have a freak one that's 3000AU out and takes 15 mins to warp to - I'm thinking that's pretty safe ;).
The quickest way to make a solarsystem BM is to open the F11 map and right click the current system in the constellation pane and choose Keep Location.
BTW scanner range is (2^31)-1 or about 2 billion km, 1AU~=149M km, so max scan is just over 14 AUs. ____________________________________

Yeah those safespots are damn hard, i've gotten within 4million km of one but thats all, it's getting easier though . I've it down to about 30mins to get to a safespot thats in line with 2 warpable objects.
I can't wait for covert op frigates . If they will have a 1AU warp to range it means two thirds of the job is done, the hardest part is getting within 25000km of the damn things

Edited by: TWD on 23/04/2004 00:04:46 100 AU+ safespots are useless, takes too long to warp when needed.
do like Nstuff said,
make a bookmark between 2 objects, make sure its not close (1 AU or less) to another object, then warp from the bookmarked spot to another object in a totally diff direction, and make a bookmark halfway.
that last bookmarked place will be pretty much impossible to find. |

I was playing with my interceptor and ran out of cap in mid warp and landed in someones mid warp spot.
I was 5k from the cans. What are the chances of that happening?

warp to a system bookmark in a pod... damn that can take you far... very very far....
pods have virtually no mass, and large cap, so it flings you like 14,000au away _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

If a safe spot is made correctly it cannot be found. The ones that you were able to find were done by noobs marking a spot between warp spots. If you bookmark the entire system and warp to it from inside the system (after draining a lot of cap) you will go in a totally random direction AND you can go several hundred au awy from the nearest celestial body. Absolutely no way of finding it until tech changes. Not even the scanner can scan that far out. So again the makers of these spots didnt have a clue.

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 23/04/2004 09:03:07 Agreed, the 'solar system'safespot made by bookmarking from the map are veeery hard to find.
Currently you cant get to ships in those spots. With the addition of black ops frigs you can, but it will still take alot of time to find them.
Anyway, I imagine a safespot made like this with a pod that warps to the safespot, recharges cap, warps to it again (you can never quite make the spot I think since it's actually at the edge of the system), recharges cap, warps again ...etc. would be untraceable due to the limitations on the scanner. It would take weeks to scan all space between 14 AU's from the sun and 140000 AU's from the sun (or vene more depending on how far you can actually go).
Edit: of course the cap limits on a BS would mean it would take a long time to get to such a spot. Maybe a heavy cap injector with 800 charges would help there, but then again this makes the safespot useless for anything but being totally safe. You can harldy put a heavy cap recharger on all the ships parked there. _______________________________________________

Edited by: The Mook on 23/04/2004 09:17:17 I've nearly gotten to a solar system safespot got 4,000,000km from it before i gave up , it's not a random location in space. The bookmark is the 0,0,0 point of the system or something like it. So basically if everyone makes a bookmark to it you all are warping to the same point.
To sum up solar system bookmarks are near impossible to find but it is possible if you have the patience

I have a question;
How long can you leave an 'ejected from' ship in a safe spot? ie can i leave it there for an amount of time b4 it self destructs? or will it never blow up? And is this the same if i log out while at a safe spot?
Asking coz there seems to be some experts on safe spots here....
Thanks. |

An ejected ship stays there indefinately, when you logoff while in a ship in space the ship disappears till you login again man
