MS Security Essentials is rolled into Windows 8. You don't have to install it, it's just there. (or more to the point, it's in windows defender)

Metro is outdated by the same functionality that makes the Start menu outdated. GǪif it could be reduced to a Quicksllver/Alfred/Spotlight-like search field that pops up down in the corner, then it would be awesome. Taking over the screen with unrelated and irrelevant nonsense never is.
My thoughts exactly! I admit that I only use the start menu for instant searching, but it's convenient because it doesn't cover my entire screen while I use it. Those "smart" tiles in Metro showed only completely irrelevant garbage like internet explorer, a weather report, and every other program I never use. |

It seems like a rendering error, probably because Win 8 is not offically supported. I will upload screens in a bit, also EvE worked fine in Win 7 on the same machine... I shouldn't have freakin updated ..... grr....
Hey I wonder if you were ever able to fix this issue as I have just experienced the same thing with my secondary computer... |

there are a lot of great improvements in the internals, all hidden by a ****** ass exterior ("Modern" UI) If you don't see a problem in 0.0 eroding into two big super-coalitions and a few hangers on in areas nobody cares about.. then you don't have brains. |

There are at least 3 ways to turn off that pesky metro UI. |

Except it's harder in the consumer preview as they removed the hacks that the developer had... Sure there's the classic ui mod but that's not really disabling it since it's just an overlay.

Its only problem was that developers were not ready for it and that they tried to program for it like they had for Win98, which the OS simply didn't allow. Well-made software ran like a dream on 2k; incompetently-made software crashed immediately. Its poor reputation pretty much entirely stems from a lot of games being done by bumbling fools and thus falling into the latter category.

Im running windows 8 release final now. It's running eve superbly.
It's not worth skipping the OS, disk access and network speed are greatly improved. It's been written from ground up with speed in mind. Very happy with it. Went from windows 7 pro to windows 8 pro if your interested. |

Contemplating upgrading.. I know, running Vista Blunder...*Bows head in shame.
I cloned my drive (Upgraded to a larger one). wonder if I can install the review version and test it out without messing up my current OS/installs, etc.,..?
Edit: To clarify; I want to install on the old HDD and switch to Win 8 without over-writing my current OS on my main drive. If EvE WiS is Space Barbie, then I'm built like a Ken Doll:

Pay attention people! Pro tip for you all!
Skip Windows 8.
Thats it. Stick with Windows 7. Microsoft is following their trend of "Good OS, Bad OS". XP was good, Vista Sucked, 7 is good, 8 sucks, 9 will be good, 10 will suck...and so on. It has been this way from the beginning. EvE is not about PvP.-á EvE is about the SANDBOX! |

Tiles 2012Gäó runs Eve fine. In fact it runs Eve better than Windows 7 because all of the Aero interface is gone and it only draws rectangles on the UI.
Whether you want to use Tiles 2012Gäó is an entirely different matter |

I've just installed the Windows 8 Pro version on a backup Harddrive and i've noticed a couple things... Unsettling.
1: My CPU is running at a higher percentage and is hotter now. But not by a little by a lot... Almost 15 Degree's Celcius. 2: If i even attempt to run the usual number of clients, i hit 80c really quickly. 3: I'm sure it's just patch glitches and non-support of Windows 8 officially, but the interface is "flashing" on and off quickly while in space, and disappearing completely at times.
Based on the above, i'm going to have to continue to use my Windows 7 Installation to keep temperatures down primarily. The new features are neat, but nothing a few minor gadget's can't do.

By what I've heard Windows 8 is horrible and shouldn't be used by anyone, EVE Player or not. They say that in learning the game Go, it is best to lose your first 50 games as soon as possible. This is because Go is complex, and the only way you will start to get an idea of strategy and play is by first sucking and failing as hard as you can. So...In EVE, it is best to get your first 50 deaths by combat as soon as possible. |

I tested Windows 8 on my PC over the weekend. All I can say is this...
My PC is neither a cell phone or a tablet. I will not re-install this crap on my PC nor will I ever install any future version of Windows that looks or works anything remotely like this pile of steaming crap. If I have to I will go back to using Linux and running everything within shells of other OS's. EvE is not about PvP.-á EvE is about the SANDBOX! |

At first glance, windows 8 may seem like a nice improvement, just as win 3 did when we all migrated from Dos to a GUI.
However, the windows app store will not allow PEGI rated games at all, nor games containing profanity or otherwise insulting apps, just look at the terms of use for developers.
Expect the desktop version to fade to history once windows 8 hit, just as MS-DOS did back in the nineties and as such, if MS doesn't change its terms, expect EVE to not make it in the windows store.
An interesting read about this can be found here:
