I'm starting piracy in metropolis and it's driving me mad already.
No targets at all, it's full of t2 pirates... Are all EVE zones as bad as this for piracy? Or did I choose one of the worst?
Is it just me?
Any suggestion where to go if this zone actually sucks?
thanks. |

Lack of targets in low sec space is a big complaint these days in EVE. That being said there is a large proportion of low sec space in minmatar which means a lot of folks just don't go there unless they are prepared for a fight. You might want to check out other empires. |

Molden heath used to have an anti pirate league at one point which was nice when i used to live down there, if the same people still live there then, Molden heath is not the place to start piracy, unless you want to die. |

Carrou/Ignoitton in northern Sinq Laison are nice systems. The first corp I joined when I was a newbie back in early 2007 lived there at the time, and I always end up going back there. No gate camping ever really happens there, but you get your fair share of both pirates and hapless victims running around in the belts. And it's very close to Jita for all your shopping needs.
Parts of Placid are pretty good as well. |

The main trouble in Metropolis is that the real pirates are using HICs. This has caused traffic to shift from some systems as it is very difficult to escape a HIC pack.
It is probably something that will spread to several other areas. Your best bet might be to join a pirate corp and run with them. |

EDIT: for some content:
The area is rich of targets from my point-of-view, but you have to be patient. Try to avoid the two big pvp corps in this area and find systems where they're not so active.
Haha well my post wasn't personally aimed at you :P
In fact, THESE are the times I have fun. My arbie was blasted because I don't know anything about PoS, but we were actively chasing you, not just jumping through empty (or t2 full) systems.

This is basically it.
You have to give an area some peace to encourage corps to establish themselves now and then but folks insist on killing everything in sight to the point that corps just won't invest the time and effort in living there.
There was actually a period in Eve a few years ago where corps would negotiate with local pirates to be left alone to operate in peace. For one reason or another that doesn't even happen now either so you're left with low sec that is largely unpopulated. |

The last days where piracy was a pentiful and easy profession in my experience was during Red Moon Rising. Ever since, there has been less and less carebears to pop.
The reason why is that carebears eventually became smart enough to not rat/mine in low sec, or they got too ****ed and are afraid to go out there at all. The main reason behind why carebears don't go to low-sec is that its too expensive.
If CCP reduced the costs involved in Exhumers or Barges, and creating a essential resource that is exclusivly in low-sec, and remove some of the mechanics that makes empire ISK so profitable, and making some parts of high sec 'less safe', maybe that would give carebears a reason to back out into low-sec.
The main issue is that there is no stretch to say that this could really hurt the markets, and ****-off/lose a lot of the carebear players.
If too much favoritism was shown for the pirate community, Carebears would no doubt be furious about the fact that they have no sanctuary anywhere anymore, they have no way of making any good ISK. Because of the great increase of difficulty involved in producing, and suppling the economy, this would directly cause the availability of things to go way down, and there would be inflation on everything. Mineral supply/demand dictate the prices of pretty much everything.
As a result of all of that, chances are a portion of the carebear community would be enraged or leave EVE because of CCP's favoritism of their opposites, and they are being forced to no longer be a carebear/miner and train as a combat class if they plan to make a living. Some players, believe it or not, don't like PVP - so they would leave over that too.
So - I'm neither a carebear or a pirate, im a hybrid of both - however I support balance and changes that don't kill off the game.
I think that low sec is horrible these days if your a pirate. Today, you usually fight other pirates, not carebears. However I think the popular and brainless demands to turn high-sec into low sec is solving one problem and creating a bigger and destructive problem.
I think that there should be a cost for everything in the game, and nothing should be immune or free - wither your talking about ISK, ships, or game mechanics. Carebears in no way should not be completely immune from the pirates, however it shouldn't be allowed that certain pirates have their way so that high-sec is completely removed so they can grief and **** carebears out of the game, and pretty much destroy the economy and the game itself.
I prefer having the game exsist is what im saying :P
To the OP:
It's like it everywhere, however if you look for isolated and low activity regions you may have luck finding some carebears who think this is a safe and low-pirate region.
Sorry - I should actually say "constallations". It has become so scarce to find carebears in belts anymore these days, it's actually completely wrong as a pirate to look for people by "regions". There is less carebears so you need to think less scale if you plan to find something.
Create a map and chart out what concentrations of carebears/pirates you find, and what hits you actually were able to make.
If you are interested in just PvP and not ganking carebears, try Syndicate. The place is full of high-SP pilots, however it isn't hard to find a fight there. A lot of pirates there know EXACTLY what they are doing, so bring friends. |

Edited by: Feilamya on 03/05/2008 11:39:44 Metropolis has always been a boring region. Yet it is still one of the best regions for noob piracy because there are lots of fluffy noob carebears and mission runners around and very few pirates and antipies that are actually dangerous. If you don't like Metropolis as a noob pirate, try going somewhere else to see if it really sucks that much. I started pirating in Metropolis, then moved to Genesis with my first pirate corp, where I could do almost nothing without a corp and a battlecruiser or bigger.
So if you are smart, stay in Metropolis until you can fly bigger ships and have some experience and some kind of plan what to do (gatecamping, roaming, mission probing, ...). It's a nice region for target practice. |

Many who profit out of low sec will not post here:) lol @ you.
Part of flourishing in the low sec carebear role is not broadcasting any of your activities. There are many low key low sec industrialists, miners, haulers, ratters, mission runners and explorers. Some of whom do all the above and flourish. You might not notice them on the killboards, because mainly they dont get killed:) Study the map, think tactically using knowledge of your systems, and know the rush hours and you can essentially be a ghost.
Low sec is fine, pay me a visit sometime. |

As a carebare in metropolis, I can say that, yes, we stay the hell out of low sec. To me its for a few reasons. 1)There is no reason to go there, I make enough isk in high sec and have fun doing it. 2)If I go to low sec for any length of time, its pretty much guaranteed that I'll loose whatever ship I'm in. 3)I have a real life so I don't have enough time to devote to the mechanics of PvP, therfore I suck at it.
I know EvE is primarily a PvP game, I'm ok with that. I do, however, have a ton of fun running missions and other PvE related activities. |

Large part of the reason for the lowsec exodus is the easy mode probing I am sure. It made a lot of former lowsec missionrunners go to highsec or 0.0, and along with those mission runners went all the personnell dependent on them (haulers, miners, n00b corpmates) which I am sure were a fairly large portion of the primary piracy targets.
That leaves lowsec largely with some relatively tough carebears who found themselves a good niche somewhere and are probably less than ideal prey, and very little in the way of real cattle. |

That's lowsec, it's mostly the same you'll find.
There are exceptions, like people in rifters and ruptures
If you think being a pirates bad, where you will get a good few hapless victims, or at least pretty beatable targets now and then, you should try being anti-pirate.
Anti-pirate because really hard as nearly every pirate flies tech 2, as you say, to fly either a heavy assault ship, a force recon, a command ship or a battleship, usually with incredibly expensive implants too. They always scour over local and near always have lots of friends themselves, indeed a lot of pirates will just be in their own corp or gang, live in the same lowsec system all the time, get to know it like the back of their hand, and annihilate anyone that comes along.
I can only imagine they can fund their setups because they have empire carebear alts pumping their accounts full of isk. Or because they only hunt non pirates and never die because their setups are so expensive and powerful. |

Ahhhh Metropolis. Had a great thing going there for a while. Corp moved in and immediately got friendly with the coalition of anti pirates in the constellation we lived out of. Pirated our merry hearts out everywhere else (don't **** in your own backyard )
Went back to that constellation a few days back for a visit and didn't see a single target in what used to be an absolutely prime low sec area.
It's a damn shame whats happened to low sec.

This worked during the Pirate Coalition time , where entire pockets of lowsec were dominated by a single pirate alliance or cartel of some kind (those competing with the PC) Unfortunately it collapsed , partly due to the lack of targets (and not being able to shoot other pirates you hate) so what was left is a large number of pirate corps roaming and competing for the best regions to pirate in. While many still offer standings for ISK , it isn't nearly as interesting as it was from the PC since other pirates will happily hunt you down. Lowsec resources just aren't good enough to bribe 5 different pirate corps , even paying one brings the ISK income near highsec L4s (assuming constant grind with no ship losses)
Add to that many wannabe pirates who grind highsec L4s to pay for their expensive losses , and don't have the attention span or self control needed to ransom.
Move L4s to lowsec , and lowsec will find some balance again. |

Your thread got derailed badly dude.
Depending on what you are flying and if you are a "pirate" or "mission-runner-who-dabbles-in-sometimes-pew-pew" the best places to find fun you can handle are losec pockets adjecent to hi-traffic hisec areas. Thats where you will find frigs/dessies in belts and other random larger things in either belts or cosmic anomalies.
Some may be bait....some not. Only way to find out is....engage!
Time of day is also important .
Try losec pockets in and around Caldari hi-sec space for starters. Ditto general Minmatar space.
Also avoid the silly blob losec hubs like Amamake.
And Genesis is utter ass. Although a trip to the EvE gate can be fun once.
Enjoy.
p.s. Solitude is also a chilled place to poke around. The few supposed ani-pirates I have seen/caught there were errrr....hunting mission rats .

This is not a solution (it's not even a smart thing to say) and you know it.
Low sec is imbalanced maybe due to the high risk involved in living there (unlike 0.0 or empire) and not due to the rewards one can get from living in low sec. |
