Summer... and New MMOs... and many PPL came through Trials and Promotion in the last Month to EVE and some of them quit again after some Weeks... and yes, also for some ppl the Game goes in the wrong Direction... and Suicide Ganking? Yes, also that. I know some Missionrunners quitted Eve or are only logging on for Skilling cause they don't wanna loose their Factionfitted Ships or switch back to T2-Fitting with less Efficiency and Fun. Some of them are waiting and hoping that something changes in the Future. Let's wait and see how it all looks in the next Autumn.

Originally by: cal nereus [ There's been a lot of turbulence in some parts of 0.0 lately, and two major powerhouses (Triumvirate and Mercenary Coalition) have called it quits. Many other alliances are feeling the effects of a shift in Eve's balance of power.
IMO it has nothing to do with the balance of power, there's just nothing exciting war-wise going on. Many people have been playing too much recently, being disappointed by lag/bugs/CCP withdrawing from the community (compared to the last years). Many players have reached their "EVE goals" (capital ships, whatever) and they don't have much to look forward to (the new "content" for older players, e.g. Marauders, Black ops is worthless).
In other words, it's boring atm., there's nothing interesting to do, people are looking for new games / stuff to do in RL etc.

Here in the UK the weather is fantastic and has been for 2 weeks or so now, This might not seem an important factor to those outside the UK but for us here its extremely important. This might be the only bit of summer we get , so everyone is outside

Biofuels don't work. At least not when you use corn to make the ethanol. That's why Brazil uses sugar cane. The recent mandates by the US congress to produce corn based ethanol is directly responsible for the price increases in corn in the US in the early part of this year. This has driven up the cost of many related items including pork and chicken which use corn as a feed.
Several farmers also rather than planting wheat planted corn for the subsidies. Thus less wheat was raised causing wheat prices to rise. Then of course there are the congressional subsidies that pay farmers to grow nothing. (If you pay people to do nothing, they'll do nothing.)
The amount of corn needed to produce enough ethanol to fill up the average SUV could feed a man for a year.
Many scientist also do not believe global warming is man made. In fact April was the 11th coldest April on record. Even if the US stopped today using any oil it would make no appreciable difference as China and India would more than make up for the difference.
For all of its lauding the movie An Inconvenient Truth misrepresented many facts and used stolen computer generated footage for some of its more spectacular shots. The goal of the movie was to cause fear. If Al Gore really cared about the environment he wouldn't have one of the top 1% polluting houses in America, and wouldn't use a personal jet to fly everywhere, he's a hypocrit.
The problem in the US is a lack of long term planning by political leaders. They opt for short term solutions which create long term problems because they are more interested in being elected than in solving actual problems. They haven't built a refinery or opened an oil drill in 30 years. They keep telling their people that there is a short term fix, there isn't. A truly green technology like hydrogen fuel cells even if perfected tomorrow would take between 30 to 50 years to become cheap enough and pervasive enough to be in every US household. In addition it takes about 10 years to bring a new oil rig into operation and about the same amount of time to bring an oil refinery online. Longterm they have to drill in ANWAR and off their coastline (they are the only major industrial country that refuses to) while at the same time investing in technologies to replace oil. Oil will peter out in 40 to 60 years, and it will be hard for the Arab states to meet oil demand in 10 years.

There is some truth to that, but I think the lower numbers are probably also part of a trend. In the first 3 years EVE devs communicated frequently with the playerbase. They kept them informed and there was a rapport with one another.
In the 4th year communication was hurt deeply by various acts of some of the developers and GMs. Communication slowed. Through the 5th year communication in most instances seemed to grind to a halt.
EVE's developer involvement was something that stirred up excitement in the population. As that has waned so to has interest.
EVE's a long way from shutting down, but the golden years might be behind it.

That's a huge lie, the producers are just using the misinformation to increase their prices. There are enough current studies showing that there is no direct connection between biofuel and food prices, it's all artificial.

Not in the UK.
In the UK diesel has just reached the equivalent of $8.86 for a US-sized gallon, so filling up my tank now costs ú70 (or $136).
It's now so expensive I'm moving house nearer to work - assuming I can find anyone to buy my house, and assuming anyone will give me a mortgage to buy something at the other end.
So on that basis I can understand why people are cutting back on things like monthly subscriptions.

Eve space has reach his limits. Expansions are not bringing new fun. Capitals are a must and time consuming.
Fun in game is decreasing, because eve has become a crowed megacity.

It's not a lie. Corn is the most inefficient crop to use for ethanol production. Certain members of the US congress chose the crop to satisfy their special interest donors (the corn growers). Not to mention ethanol is not as clean as they tell you, it might do better with carbon dioxide emissions but it does produce other greenhouse gases in larger amounts than oil does....

1. Education, Summer
2. pvp players are tired of lags, bugs, desink, improper ship balance. PoSes successfully killed small-gang pvp in 0.0, because target warp to pos and you cant kill it without large pos-killing blob, and that means hours of LAGS. Also cloaking\logooff\bacon stuff make pvpers die of borringness.
When ccp removed static plexes from lowsec, it killed lowsec because now they are useless with current stupid exploration system (it realy suck. Waiting for hours without be able to do something to get "no signatures found" damn it!)
3. PvE players are bored, because EVE in general don't have any interesting things for them. There is no main goal.. first you get frigate, thet cruiser, battlecruiser, battleship, capital.. then you fly in them for sometime pointless and if you dont like pvp that means "game over". Storyline is just on paper.. not in game.
4. casual gamers don't like extreme death penalties in eve, because they dont have time and desire to recover from loss.
5. other new mmorpg

Not sure if this is a common problem but a few acquaintances of mine are leaving due to the way Eve is becoming (their words not mine), recent "nerfs" and "boosts" have annoyed quite a few people and the Trinity patch was pure fail.
I'm quite happy paying and playing as normal despite patch issues I had (adapt/die/etc) but you cannot **** off a paying playbase too much without some "leakage"

Yup same here, you know if you get two good weeks in May then that means the summer in the UK will suck. I'm hoping it will buck that trend though. I had to send a note out yesterday to my guys asking them to just say what they are up to as I havent seen some of them for nearly 3 weeks!!
I lost my job a few months ago and havent been able to find work yet (seems employers want plankton rather then experienced IT folks) so I'm now considering even if I keep my two accounts going.

First off, OP is probably a dev from another MMO stokin a burned out fire but in all honesty jita still sucks, i log in to 30k+, and i occassionaly get a good fight, but the obvious needs to be restated
GTA IV Lag, POS Sov, NAP alliance mechanics Possibly other MMOs (but these would need to be space based as i think alot of guys here are scinutjobs (me included )
for the combat oriented, GTA is a huge distraction especially since most people are sick of the huge blobs, tons o lag. Sov, POS's and Naptrains have killed the game for pilots who play for PVP. Current mechanics and server limitations make it impossible to fight outnumbered and with the increased in pilots, moar fail, moar larger blobs, less fun
that buyerr guy complainnin about hi sec gankin is a joke

I find myself logging in less and less because of the way the game has changed tbh.
Here's a few reasons for my increased absence:
- Ships I used to specialize in flying have become nerfed to oblivion.
- Ships I'd love to fly have no place in this game because of the general gameplay.
- I have to risk 0.5b ships while my victims can logoffski, wield stabs, do logonski traps AND see me coming in local 50 AU's out.
- Most of the victims I come across is 1-month old battleship pilots in oversized ships that Stevie Wonder could've fitted better, who are STILL earning more money on an hourly basis than I can from piracy.
- PvP is pretty much dead in the water, unless you corner your victim(s) and force them to fight.
- Virtually every corp claiming to do small scale warfare has turned into a merry band of blobby @sshats with e-p33n issues.
- Every thread about fixing piracy/losec/etc into a more target rich environment ends up with the mandatory p33n-swinging @sshat who proudly proclaims solo piracy is alive and well although his last 100 or so kills was as the fastest locking f@g of a 50-man nanoblob or recon gang.
- Smack has become mandatory and I find myself logging off in disgust and annoyance more often than wanting to play.
- Eve-O has become r*tard central, meaning I can't even go there for entertainment while my flashy @ss is being camped by the mandatory 50 docking range heroes, unless I become a nanof@g and fly said 0.5b ship and become part of the tendency that's been killing this game for me. And as if the humiliation of having my game dictated by a man-train of smacktalkers isn't enough, I now get the added pleasure of having to scroll through endless 'can I have your stuff'- and 'first in epic thread'-posts on these sad boards.
- I can't hunt in losec, because I go flashy in a day after trying to get just one fight from the plethora of loggofski generals and stabwh*res. Ratting my sec status is ofc possible, but it takes me the better part of a week having to eek my sec status back whilst having to endure endless smack from Igor's cloaked raven in some obscure language.
- Being flashy, I spend most of the day in losec evading massive blobs and station camps in speed fits.
- Hunting in 0.0 is viable, but you can do a good 100 jumps before finding some russian raven who's too busy to check local. Then you have to guess the belt (dont bother direction scanning or he'll be gone by the time you hit scan the second time), make the 50 AU warp to the right belt, pray for aggro before he logs off, be lucky enough to have found someone without stabs - and then maybe, just maybe, you get to shoot at an empty ship for 90 seconds, if he doesn't vanish in midair or the node doesn't crash when half of Kazakhstan logs on in response to one of his 15 alts crying his eyes out in alliance chat.
Why you can't have my stuff? Because you suck for thinking that these p*ss-poor memes and smart quotes made you anything but an utter @rsehat.
Why do I still play? Because of people. People I like to fly with - and the waning hope that the game will become even remotely interesting again some time in the future. As more and more of the people I fly with disappear, I find myself doing other things though. Fun things involving real people - and sometimes kittens and blowtorches.
Maybe others feel like I do. Maybe they don't. Maybe it's spring, b*tches and mai-tais. Maybe it's work. I don't know.
Is EVE dying? I don't know - and sadly, I've stopped caring tbh. To plunder, to slaughter, to steal, these things they misname empire; and where they make a wilderness, they call it peace. - Tacitus |

Assuming the same "spring dropoff" percentage every year applied to an ever increasing number of players, the variation in absolute numbers is going to increase as well.
