There seems to be a rather large misconception about the Black Rise region which will be introduced with FW.
This is not an 'arena' or some kind of new battleground.
It is simply yet another 'low sec' region.
As mentioned by CCP, the low sec DMZ type area between Gal/Cal space was lacking in size, shape, gates, stations etc. this has been 'fixed'
It appears that it will be no different from any of the other low sec areas already in existence.
FW seems to initially introduce low sec RVR between the four main Empire factions.
Listen to the live dev blog, read other posts, chat to your online spaceships friends and gain some better understanding before whining.
PS: Sorry about that Nyx, seems the brakes failed, don't get angry about it :(

Do continuously die in low sec.. or?
I have lived in various low sec for long periods throughout my time playing EVE. Never had that much of an issue.

Indeed. And as everyone knows they are utterly impossible to evade or defeat.
It is a well-kept secret - I may be killed for revealing this - that upon declaring yourself a pirate, any ship you fly gets double hitpoints, scan res and base resistances. You also get access to a secret channel, special mods and a plug-in to the scanner that tells you exactly where the nearest non-pirate is at any time. True story.

Easy to get past if you know how, but they are trying to get inexperienced ppl in t1 small ships to go through those gates. If the first couple of times they get wasted at a gate, they won't be going back.
Every yarr merchant in eve will be on those gates looking for easy kills.

You believe all of those 12 gates will be camped to the point where FW won't be possible?
You believe all the 'pirates' camping those gates will just ignore each other and hug the gates?

Here is the relevant text from here http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=557
'Oh, and Black Rise
One last little thing, when we were sketching out the combat areas for all this stuff, we kept running into one brick wall in particular: Caldari low sec space, well, kind of sucks.
Specifically, there isn't much of it, and what there is, is mostly in the wrong place (i.e. well away from the Gallente border). This is, for a system which needs decent expanses of lowsec space between the Empires, a problem. So we looked at the map and decided that there was room for a bit more. '
So yes, they will be camped.

You are correct, however since the vast majority of players in eve are caldari or gallente, this is going to be by far the busiest area.
Especially when you consider how many amarr/minmatar loyalists have been taken out of FW with the alliance thing.
At a wild guess i'd say 70-80% of fw will happen in black rise and the neighbouring gallente low sec systems.
I might start camping it myself
It just seems like another attempt to make low sec used. Looks like it will be as successful as lvl5s.

Really ? well im gallente, ill be declaring for the gallente, and if the majority of people stay in BR, then me and nmy friends will be in amar low sec, taking the control points uncontested
The fights should be dynamic, if its too busy in BR, people will head to one of the other regions low sec

There are forty six systems in Gallente lowsec space that are also part of the Gallente/Caldari area, mainly in Placid and the northern border of the big Essence/Sinq/Verge block. We wanted to have a decent amount of lowsec on both sides of each border to use, and while the Gallente have plenty, the Caldari had not very much, so we added some more. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Ok,
I'm not trying to nitpick here. I've listened to the recording of the Dev blog (missed it live, I was working) and I've had quite a few of my concerns allayed about it. However I do have a question:
One thing I don't understand, and I'd be very interested to hear the RP backstory on, is how "Black Rise", an area that previously was an unnavigable void devoid of stars, now suddenly has stars and bases and such? How will the sudden appearance of the stars be explained? And what about them suddenly being Caldari lowsec systems?
Will it be shown that the Caldari State had been able to access these systems some time ago, but kept them hidden until recently? (Perhaps revealed through some event connected to the Empyrian Age trailer?) And what about the stars "suddenly" being there? Was there some kind of freaky black nebula surrounding that region that has suddenly dispersed? How will this be explianed?
Don't get me worng, I'm NOT complaining. I'm just curious and want to know.

I agree.
I forsee gate camps at almost all the low-sec entry gates of BR as alliances move in to control the areas, just like they do in other low-sec to high-sec entry points. The amount of people trying FW missions will probably be high at start, then dwindle fast as they realize that anytime they jump in one alliance or an other will be sitting there blasting away not caring about FW. Why should they, when hundreds will be jumping into thier crosshairs to be destroyed then salvaged and looted.

Heh. Good point. I still haven't heard how the Devs will deal with that, Unless they plan on bringing in NPC cap ship fleets periodically to clear the gates for the FW folks. Which, actually, would be pretty cool. I'd love to see a massiive 250 NPC titan + Capship + BS and support fleet come and spank a major 0.0 Alliance trying to camp a lowsec gate.

I hope they do do that as really it would be the only way to truely have factional warfare be this "ease into pvp" that they want it to be. If you have battle hardened players controling entry into the faction warfare area, why bother? -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Not a bad idea.
Another way might be for the factions to beef up their frontline defences (i.e. superduper untankable very long range gate turrets)

Hate to break this to the nay-sayers, but how many of you have seen the rpers who will be the ones largely involved in FW at work? Most of the groups I've been familiar with have been pretty much pvping this whole time over highsec and lowsec and nullsec. I think that the newcomers, while outmatched, will find people willing to help them get some experience. Pirates will probably find their gates contested by fleets of veterans looking to gain their faction another system or two.

I have to agree with the "positive" people. The gate into Cloud ring is probably going to be quite heavily camped 23/7. But the rest. Unless they're completely clueless the faction warfare people will band together and sweep away any gatecamps standing in their way. In a few months people will probably get the idea that it's not such a good idea to stand in the way of a gang of FW-ites looking for a fight and the camping on black rise highways will drop off. That is, unless the rumors that Black Rise will contain a higher-than-average amount of dysprosium moons proves to be true.
Overall, Caldari space really needed more low-sec. As it is there are only a handful of routes, and those are heavily camped since there is such a large amount of people in Caldari high-sec and so few ways from high-sec to low-sec and from low-sec to 0.0. Black Rise is a good thing. Opening up another route to Cloud Ring is also a good thing. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. I've never seen a large alliance camp a lowsec to highsec gate.
I think that most of the time the numbers will be in favor of the FW people. Ofcourse there's be stragglers that get caught by pirates, but i think that in time Faction Militas will be as redutable as large 0.0 player alliances and will take effective ownership of parts of lowsec.

This.
I also think these militia-alliances will be NRDS Alliances controlling areas of their lowsec and effectivly hunting pirates (they're shooting reinforcements and supply so they have to get rid of them). If this takes place large areas of lowsec are alot more secure than it is today and lowsec eventually gets more populated as time goes by. But this is all speculation...can one ever predict how eve looks like in a week or even a month? so stay tuned...i'm really interested in how this expansion takes place in the eve universe

It's pretty funny when people suggest that pirates will be having a slaughter at these gates. What's the biggest low-sec gatecamp you've ever seen? 10 ships? 20? Very rare to see that many.
On the other hand, it should be no problem to get together a gang of 40 or 50 faction-supporters who want to gain access to a system. If they can work together all I can see is dead pirates.
Which is a point I've not really seen much about... will there be some mechanism for FW peeps to self-organise into gangs, with a decent FC? It probably needs to be a little more structured that the existing fleet formup mechanism if we want random noobs to be able to join in...

That big new star we all saw at Xmas was actually a supernova that changed the space that the gates use. The scientists that went missing when they went to investigate it, found new path ways and the Caldari state erected gates to use those path ways. It has been a state secret, while they set up bases/colony's in the new regions. Soon it will all be announced to the public as a fait accompli.

Edited by: Tek''a Rain on 17/05/2008 03:13:18 OF course, a reply to all the "pirate gatecamps do not exist.. mostly" crowd.. There are not 23/7 camps Now because there is nothing much worth getting in lowsec, or at least in large swaths of it. Once there is growing populations trying to move along with influxes of less experienced pvp'ers (in theory) then it will certainly become viable to camp gates.
Either a pirate group trying to catch all the lovely and overly optimistic faction fit CNRs, or powerful double-zero alliances sealing off sites for personal gain. Limited access will leave factional warfare stillborn.
<personal gripe> BTW: what ever happened to Gallente Cosmos? All those fixes "Complete and added to the next major patch" several major patches ago? Does FW mean all those Other issues are going to (continue to be) ignored? </personal gripe>

True story.
Quite you! Next you'll be telling them about the Secret Decoder rings by mailorder!
ut oh... I mean.. crap.

I almost never run into low sec gate camps. And I'm in low-sec a lot lately.

I'm getting a feeling this will be more like WWII Online in the way it will work than anything else actually.

Honestly, I think it will be a mission carebear gankfest of unparalleled proportions. As soon as the patch comes out all of the mission people will think "ooh new features I must try them" only to discover that there's a 20 man gatecamp on every single entry point to black rise. The "Noooo I lost my 800mil GTC-bought faction-fitted navy raven" thread will number in the double digits.

If this actually triggers a flood of carebears into low sec, I'm movin' there full time.
Also, re the 10 vs 40 comment, 10 can beat 40 depending on the setup and what tactics they use, or at least inflict massive casualties and then break off.

so, will all player ship wrecks in BR drop LP tokens? ;-P
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

Yeah and if you turn enough in to your system commander some of the regular NPC caracals become navy issue and start fitting faction mods.
