I remember reading an old thread about people probing down old forgotten ships that people ejected out of long ago.
Is this still possible? I am curious, especially after the change where cans get deleted after about a month.
Whether still possible or not, what have you guys found before?

A few T1 frigates, nothing of value, in them, or fitted. :(
Mostly shuttles and rookie ships litter the planets and occassiohnaly safe spots.
Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

I found a cruiser once, jumped into it, but it was pretty much destroyed, like 5% hull left.

I found a load of drugs in an Ibis once.
And of course, my old Executioner was found sitting at a midsafe in highsec. It served as a glorified shuttle until I finally broke down and trained for ceptors. -------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |

Most of the good stuff got snapped up when they overhauled scanning in Revelations 1. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I have found many many shuttles, and a handful of rookie ships. The stuff that taunts me from inside a POS doesn't count. ___ Victory smiles upon those who anticipate the changes in the character of war, not upon those who wait to adapt themselves after they occur. ~Guilio Douhet |

I found a Drake while i was exploring in 0.0 space. Someone parked it quite near to a planet so my exploration probes caught up the signal. So i brought my cov ops to a save spot in a system next to the one with the drake. My drake was already parking there (i was neutral and a noob and dont wanted to dock in 0.0). I thought both ships would be save there for 1h which i need to bring the drake to empire. So i grabed it, brought it back to empire, jumped into a t1 frig and returned to my 2 parked ships just to find out someone else scanned out the save spot and stole my drake and my cov ops. Bad day, 1 Drake gained, 1 Drake and a Cov Ops lost. And the fitting was **** btw. 1 Month later i got a mail from my insurance company that my beloved drake got destroyed.

All T2-fitted Impel on the direct path between two gates in a high-sec Amarr system. This was only a few months ago. Maybe previous scanners hadn't bothered to check it out because it just looked like a ship in transit? Couldn't fly it myself so had a buddy ferry it for me.
BTW, it had no owner icon. Does ownership expire after a certain amount of time?

Kestrel w/all nice named stuff in low-sec, Bantam, many shuttles. One of them had a skillbook in it.
The best was when a guy we caught ratting in low-sec ejected from his Drake at 30% shields. Had a crap fit, but hey, free Drake.

Ancient Badger I fitted with two afterburners, from the days when that still worked (long ago).
Caracal with a couple of T2 mods.
Amar cruiser (I forget which) with a snowball launcher and a load of snowballs (since melted by CCP in a fit of fun-killing)
Shuttle full of blueprints (copies, mostly ammo and low-run ships, still quite a lot of value).
Many T1 frigates without anything notable in cargo or fittings.
It's still worth looking for these, as when you find them, they may well be in deep safespots you can't get to using any other current game mechanic. The safespot is potentially more valuable than the ship. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |

In the last time one Drake and 2 Ravens. One with T2 Mods and Arbalest Cruise Launchers. Blue, red, neut ships ... People should read the warning when they decide to eject (something about loss or destruction).

Hah, that happened to a raven of mine, parked it at a POS in 0.0, then left corp/alliance w/o taking it with me and a few days ago I was told that it got blown up :(

Is there a way to tell if a ship has a pilot in it or not, using the probes/scanner?

If number of ships in space > number of people on local - some ships must be empty :) And if there is no POS in sight - go go scan powah :)

A friend of mine found a fully T2 fitted Scorpion in space once. I can't remember what system it was in but he was quite happy.

Nothing valuable, but odd: I found a shuttle once, doing some clean up in a system. Boarded it to fly it away, didn't read the error message the first few times, only when I noticed no warping happened. Turns out it had 26 m3 of stuff inside, and thus wasn't allowed to fly (like if you fill your cargo hold, then fit overdrives, you can't exit the station because you got more cargo than hold). Was weird. Did shuttles at some point hold more than 10m3? Else I can't understand how you get more than that in the hold of a shuttle in space.

Edited by: Hoshi on 24/05/2008 10:21:10 Most expensive thing was an arbalest siege fitted raven. Wasn't left in space for very long but long enough for me to swipe it (the original owner came and started shouting at me a few min later :)
Most interesting thing was a dual mwd frigate. While it is possible that it was just a bad fit it is a possibility that it had been sitting there since before the dual mwd nerf. That means it been sitting there for 2-3 years or more.
Edit: almost forgot, also found a hauler with around 800k Nocxium in it, found in hostile 0.0 space. Had to first go and buy the skillbook to fly it and then go back and haul it out unprotected :) ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Could have had some T1 modules in it; their volumes got increased a while back as people were using them to ghetto-compress minerals (as the modules took up less space than the minerals you needed to make them and could reprocess them for).

It is possible, when the shuttle was left in space b4 ccp changed the volume of some mods.

Ah, that'll be it then, as it was a few random modules that made up the 26m3.
