Edited by: Project Untrust on 27/05/2008 14:16:10 So while I was killing time browsing EVE-online.com during DT, reading a bit of EVE stories, forums and etc, like many of us would do... I came across the section 'Organizations' under 'Backstory', and noticed a very interesting fact:
None of the NPC corps have a CEO or CFO or any other portraited staffs that is an Achura, Khanid, Jin-Mei, and Vheroklor.
Amarr - 33 corps - Portraits of CEO and staffs consist of all races/bloodlines except the above mentioned 4 Caldari - 44 corps - same as above (**=same as above) Gallente - 31 corps - ** Minmatar - 21 corps - ** Jovian - 7 corps - ** Ammatar - 3 corps - ** Khanid Kingdom - 4 corps - ** Intaki Syndicate - 4 corps - ** Guristas - 2 corps - ** Serpentis - 2 corps - ** Angel Cartel - 4 corps - ** Blood Raider - 1 corp - ** InterBus - 1 corp - ** ORE - 1 corp - ** Concord - 4 corps - ** SOE - 3 corps - ** Society of Concious Thoughts - 1 corp - ** Mordu's Legion - 1 corp - ** Sansha's Nation - 2 corps - ** Thukker Tribe - 2 corps -**
That's ALL of the 171 npc corps in game, and you couldn't find one single Achura, Khanid, Jin-Mei or Vheroklor among them.
Could this be coincidence? certainly not, not after 171 x # of the staffs chance with 0 hit. Could this be a random portrait generator's work and somehow someone in CCP forgot to 'program' these 4 racial portaits in it? I seriously doubt it, as if you pay attention on the CEOs/staff of certain corp, you'll realized their last name, race is closely chosen and associated with some of the stories from EVE Chronicles. This suggest CCP paid explicit attention in details about what they put out there, lore, stories are all well coordinated and described.
Which make this even more troubling... so does that mean the 'missing races' are intentional? and if it is intentional what is the purpose? If you compare Ammatar with Khanid Kingdom, the CEOs/staffs in Ammatar are consisted of Ammar and Minmatar(fits the lore), yet Khanid Kingdom corps have CEOs/staffs in every other race but Khanid(doesn't make much sense does it?) Same goes the corp 'Vheroklor' has no Vheroklor in them, and finally zero Jin-Mei in Gallentte corps.
Above are just examples that where these race should or suppose to be in Lore and in reality one will probably expect them in other less expected corps such as pirate corps. But no... they're non-existent in any npc corps at the moment.
I tried to find some sort of connection and similarity of these 4 bloodlines compare to other bloodlines. and there is none in-game.
Except their portraits draws reference from real world Asians(Mongoloid). Same as other bloodlines draws reference from Caucasoid and Negroid.
This makes perfect sense as the sentient beings in the story of EVE are human descendants(I mean they didn't just creat some random alien looking portrait..). And in real world Earth, human race are consist of 3 major groups (Mongoloid, Caucasoid and Negroid), And so far CCP has done a very good job representing each group in EVE.
Until now.
Discuss.

Aren't those all "bloodlines" races (or sub-races of the primary 4), and since they were created after the fact, the existing corporations wouldn't be changed to relflect their addition...... just my guess --

Ahahaha, funniest and craziest statement ever!
Though seriously, I think this topic deserves more thorough investigation.
What is the composition in races of the very top ranks (CPP Devs, GMS)? I believe we can find discrepancies here too indicating that something is rotten in New Eden!

If you ask me, we need more BLATANT racism and slavery..like Amarr vs Minmatar. In fact I suggest we put the Achura and other asian characters through the grinder like Minmatar and oppress them - Would make for some excellent RP fun and conflicts.

Ok, so the backstory was created before they indroduce the 'Asian' race.
I didn't know that.
And I bet I am not the only one who doesn't know that.
And base on this lack of knowledge, does assumption seem too odd? put yourself in a more objective potition before reading this topic instead of bashing easy target.
I think what i point out is nothing but the obvious, the 'missing race' in npc corps.
I am surprise that no one suggested that it'd be a good idea for CCP to update their lore/database, all i get is easy 'omfg haha you idiot you don't know what you're talking about haha, *points and laughs* you fail lol' sigh, for me joining eve late?

Not at all, it's not for joining EVE late, it's a) for doing this 'research' and b) for jumping to conclusions after doing said 'research'.
For future 'research' and truly outrageous conclusions, might I suggest you research the character creation paths and see how many give you a black character?

Yes, yes I do Khanid are an inferior people - Even genetically...the only reason they aren't enslaved like the pathetic Minmatar animals, is cause we don't need more slaves..yet anyway.
Those asian type people are, however, no better than the minmatar..weak underdeveloped creatures!. I think the caldari ones might even be of russian origin..or something, you know like the gallente are french. I don't know..has no bearing anyway.

People don't randomly change race hence updating doesnt make any sense.

I made plenty of speculation, but i haven't jump to any conclusion as far as i am aware of.
And comparing my 'research' to some of the indepth investigation that people suggested isn't very fair imo.
my 'research' was a unintentional web browsing while killing time waiting to get back on EVE. I didn't set out to look for any 'hidden plots' i merely came across something obvious and pointed it out on forum, and got laugh at coz of some lore CCP failed to update in few year gap.
This still doesn't change the fact that many new players will find it odd when they're simply curious about npc corps and did a bit of lore searching.

GEE I WONDER WHY.
Those bloodlines were added later, long after the NPC corps had been set up. I say, leave it as is. Trying to exercise some sort of racial quota in a video game is just inanity, and I am extremely happy that we have shut out those odious and loathsome archura from all levels of government in the Caldari State!

Agents? are we even talking about the same thing? i was refering to CEOS/staffs under 'Backstory' and 'Organization', there're people who play the game for it's RP aspect and enjoys the lore(story)
Because if you don't what is EVE to you then? just bunch of ships shooting each other in a big black vacume space?
You might not care there're no Khanids in Khanid kingdom corps but if you fail to understand why some people might point it out, you shouldn't be even playing the game imo. All the resource of EVE, both in game and on site are wasted on ppl like you.

Edited by: 5pinDizzy on 27/05/2008 16:06:15 This reminds of of all the politically correct tripe I've seen in real life, where things like shows are scared if their audiences aren't culturally diverse enough and they might be branded racists.
Everything that possibly involves an attendance of random members of the population has apparently got to have a reflective percentage of accuratetely dispersed ethnic diversity in their group based on the number ratios of the entire population.
Apparently if this doesn't happen its racist, never mind a chance that such and such a person who has such and such an ethnic origin decided to do/go somewhere else instead at the time etc...
To me it makes about as much sense as calling a coin racist if it keeps flipping heads mostly (by chance) instead of heads tails heads tails.
If anything I would call even bringing such a thing up as racist in my own way of thinking, as to highlight the differences between people rather then just accepting them all as human beings.

Overkill ftw.
How did you even made the connection between the two scenerios?
I failed at not knowing that certain races were added later after the Backstory were already in place, and that's the reason i got flame/laugh at.
But imagine IF that's not the case, what kinda impression that would give you?? the same kinda impression it would give for any new players who're interested enough in lore and RP (those joined after they added the new races), which are:
Why're 4bloodlines missing in over 170 corps? Why aren't there a Khanid in Khanid Kingdom corps? (how do you make the connection to what you said in your post?)
So, 2 things 5pinDizzy, don't mix them up. if i got flamed for stupidly assuming something on such a sensitive subject without further research, i take the full blame for it, it was me being stupid and not knowing. But if i got flamed for defining what is or should be consider racism then you got the wrong target, I never started that topic, you did.
asking why there isn't one single Khanid in all the Khanid corps isn't the same as your 'real life show attendance vs ratio of race etc etc.' I agree about how tiresom and annoying it is to be '100% politically correct' in rl. But some people are just as sensitive about not being '100% politically correct' as those on the opposite end of the spectrum.
The content of my original post hasn't change, what has changed is the before and after knowing the fact that those races were added later.
Before knowing it - it's an issue to be discussed After knowing it - it slaves all the questions, hence the issue doesn't exist anymore.
Seems like some people here can't get a grip of that and move on. I wonder what the real issue is.

As much as I think it's a ridiculous concept in real life, faction-based (or race-based, lets not sugar coat it) conflict works well in a MMO setting. It provides context or conflict in a PVP setting that's easy to develop your balancing for combat mechanics as well as your background lore to support it.
As long as people don't take it too seriously, things are fine. There are plenty of real life examples of where things go wrong, of course. But this is a game.

and no, ignorance of the game is not an excuse. It means whomever got so offended that they needed post about how offensive this seems to them didn't do their homework.
Do I personally care enough that I would be assuaged were CCP to rectify this alleged grievance? Nope.

Talking about "political correctness with respect to racism" in an Internet spaceships game dealing with racism/slavery/exploitation in its initial fluff is a bit over the top and bordering on silly.

Originally by: Cadela Fria EVE needs more racism! oooh and ethnic cleansings! DOWN WITH THE KHANID!
Hm, can't we just get rid of the Achura first? The Autonomous Khanid Movement(AKM) needs some time to prepare. Looking at the current market in Khanid half the ships would have to go for suicide ramming...

Edited by: Winterblink on 27/05/2008 19:08:00 You know.. perhaps this raises an interesting point about the dynamicism of the NPC corps and how they never change.
Ignoring the racism issue for a moment, the CEOs of corps never change. Agents never change, they never get promoted, change companies, etc. Wouldn't it be interesting if a lower level agent got promoted, and suddenly that standing you had with them could be applied immediately to higher level missions for instance?
Sure it may end up being that you now have a totally new agent to work with in place of the old one, but this kind of thing can happen in real life. For example, the person you go to get your hair cut moves and you get stuck with someone who you don't know, or forced to seek out a better person.
Corporation-level storyline plots for industry types could be worked up in the ongoing story as well. Say, a business section on the PNC for these types of situations. Could be automated as well, listing upcoming shifts in positions. Some NPCs could quit their positions entirely and new ones could come in from other organizations. Bringing it back to the thread topic, new agents can come from any of the current races and move up the ranks.
Logic for the moves? How successful and agent is (mission success from players who work for them) get them promoted faster, maybe? Where they end up might be a way to disperse mission hubs in a dynamic sense which fits in an RP sense.

Wow how much time did you spent on editing and quoting?
You tried too hard bashing on an easy target. You tried too hard making a point that has already been made for 50+ times before you. You simply repeat the same crap and tried to present it in a different way, one you think will make you appear smarter than the others. You seem very good at nothing but recycling the same crap and feed on it, do you eat your own crap by any chance?

Until now.

People like the Project Untrust aggravates the cause of racism, subconsciously seeing things that are not there and angering people on all sides. Then he compunds his vileness by making excuses for his behaviour, when it is clear to see his only intent was to foist his lies and wickedness upon the good. Even his name proves this as he is trying to sow 'untrust' among the people.
Project Untrust your shroud of darkness will hold no sway among the enlightened, begone and take your Devil's Tongue with you.

Do I personally care enough that I would be assuaged were CCP to rectify this alleged grievance? Nope.
I mean really... you get offended over the lack of "Asian-bloodline" fictional characters in CEO positions, but make no remark of the institutionalized fictional slavery on the part of the Amarr Empire?

Methinks the OP doth protest too much.
Yeah, it's kind of like saying Iceland is racist because everyone there (I'm assuming re: permanent residents) is white.

Crap thread
BLOODLINES!
The closest thing to racism of EVE, that could possibly be brought up, would be how Gallente-Caldari, and Amarr-Minmatar relations are - but you can't call it racism because they are are enemies with each other. It's not dislike because of race, but because of bad histories/wars.
If you look at how players treat each other, the actual pilots, there is a whole lot of Caldari-hating and Minmatar-hating. There is bashing that goes on towards Gallente and Amarr pilots too, but not nearly as much as I see Caldari and Minnies being bashed by a lot of players. Often times its the Minmatar and Caldari bashing each other - why that is, who knows.
I personally jab at Minnies a bit here and there - I mean: who hasn't made fun of their ships? :P
Caldari get picked on for having a few abstract and ugly ships too as well - and there is a lot of bashing Caldari for sucking at everything PvP wise, and their ECM is very nub. But the Minmatar on the other hand get bashed for having the most ugly ships - but having nub nanoships too. And don't get me started on Minmatar and soapbar jokes
Speaking of which - there is a few jokes about Minmatar never taking baths and they are scared to death of soap; I still don't know where those jokes come from still. My guess is because they toiled in dirt and grease as slaves before they rebelled, and now they do the same thing on their welded-garbage ships. ____________________

God I love the political correct group. With racism defeated in the real world they can now focus on the plight of the under privlaged minority portraits of a space combat MMO with a population barely over 300 thousand individuals. Yes, they will teach us to one day not to judge someone by the color of their textureized portraits, but the content of their turrets! -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

No they wont. Also, why do you even care what races the NPC corp agents are?
Agents? are we even talking about the same thing? i was refering to CEOS/staffs under 'Backstory' and 'Organization', there're people who play the game for it's RP aspect and enjoys the lore(story)
The people listed there ARE agents, all the ceos can be talked to ingame if you have the standings and they'll hand you a (crappy) mission.

I would like to take a moment to thank the op for bringing up a subject that has been close to my heart for years. Ive been surfing these forums for years and this is the first time ive seen someone have the guts to mention the obvious racism inherent in this game.
Is there not enough of it in real life? Why do we feel the need to bring it into a game? ooh, a shiny thing, brb i wanna see what it is.................wow, i found a button, its round and shiny.............where was i? is this the Pokemon fanclub website? I was looking for a picture of pikachu.......hallo nurse.....no im not causing trouble.........well, no i dont think i do...............no, i dont want to go back into that little room...........no, the walls taste of lemons and the sheep on the ceiling hate me.....................
