One irritating thing about AOC: it run better with high-res textures settings than low-res settings. Why? Because whoever brainless wonder programmed that part decided that in order to disply low-res textures, the game would take the high-res ones, use processing power to degrade them, and then display them. ------------------------------------------

He he .. yeah I play AoC on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with High settings, for better performance in FPS I use Pixelshader 2.0 in cities and 3.0 outside. Have had up to 50 FPS at times, sometimes it lags out pretty bad but usually around 20-30 fps.
Also must say that after each patch things seems to work better and better... currently playing a priest or Tempest of Set, also got a Conqueror that I swich between to play.
Also looking forward to the new grief-system ... or anti-grief system that is. Aparently it will come that if you kill lots of low-levels you get flagged Fugitive, and becomes red... so people can see that you are a griefer and kill you on spot, if you kill a fugitive you can loot the body for some money and items aparently. Atleast that is what Ellingson told one of the local news papers here in Norway.

You know, in Ultima Online, PK got their names in red and were free-for-all. It was considered a badge of honor and did nothing to discourage them. EVE's criminal standings work the same way.
We all know how this worked out in both games.
(Hint: It doesn't work! )

WHAT? Is that a joke? Paying 100$ TO BE IN A GUILD? ROFLMAO. Remaining racial slurs? Sorry, can't stop laughing. That's the biggest joke i've seen in ages.
Edit: LOL they have similiar stuff in WoW? Ahaha, do they have this in EVE too? That would be news flash for me (and prooly for alot others). Who in their right minds would "pay" to be in a stupid guild/corp/org in a virtual game?
It's well worth the money, especially the Platinum membership.

First siege done, participating players report many bugs, and so much video lag it's simply unplayable. ------------------------------------------

The discussion pointing out all siege warfares flaws got deleted on the eu AOC forums. Its generally the tactic of FC to lock or delete any discussion criticising the games serious design flaws (which are plentifull)
Though my biggest problem with AOC is the lack of sandbox style. I just love the creativity allowed in EvE compared to in AOC where everyone lvls up to 80 following the same rough path. The destiny quests finished it off for me simply because you have to do single player to progress in the game.
PvP is one lame thing in AOC aswell. I know its only a few weeks old but making some classes have no real role in group PvP, for example demologists when they meant to be CC anda high damage class , yet they get out damaged by healers and have less CC. Its hard to think what the devs were thinking when they designed a few of the classses.
The combo system is a total joke aswell. Many AOC players claim it requires skill to execute combos at the right time and for the right class. Total bull****. Most players ive spoken (and I) use the same combos in the same order for every class they face. Which simply shows that no real thought is required to suceed. I have to say even WoW requires the player to slightly think about his order of attack more then in AOC.
In all this is one big let down for a game that promised so much in terms of PvP. Siege warfare being the center piece of PvP when it does not even work, nor is there any point in creating a town simply for it to be destroyed in no less then 20 mins. It would be like me setting up a POS using all the most exspensive items for no return in minerals from the moon, to then it having a tank of a shuttle.
Avoid at all costs at least for a few months.

They won't give you a refund. It's an MMORPG, as far as they know, you used the activation code within. ---------------------------------------- Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes.

Edited by: mishkof on 25/06/2008 11:23:46 Edited by: mishkof on 25/06/2008 11:22:12 I was wondering if AoC had a thread on this board.
It does.
After one month of play I must say the game has potential. That is really its only strong point right now.
The PvP is unbalanced, but it is a solid foundation, and the content is lacking. There are core concepts about the games PvP that need some major tweaking/overhaul IMO. The melee combat system is alright, however casters are still auto attack which is where the core of the imbalance comes from. The sieging system definately needs a tuneup and you need a high end machine to get real results at this point.
It has extremely nice graphics, beautiful areas, and with some supplimental UI components and a new chat the UI is decent. It is not nearly as gear dependent as wow, and leveling is easier as well. Less lag time between start and getting on with endgame PvP.
I have met quite a few good players, mostly from shadowbane, and Dark age of Camelot. You of course have your wow kiddies mixed in there. Server pops are holding steady, as there definately was a decline in subs after the intial free month so you can get an idea of where the actual population is at.
The main reason I wanted to comment in this thread is to the people complaining about lag in the game.....
You play eve online. Eve online for all its greatness is the most laggy POS on the market right now when it comes to performence. Seriously, AoC or any other game cannot light a candle next to the king of lag and desyncs aka Eve online.
In fact if Eve endgame territorial PvP actually worked (because it doesn't) I would not be looking for another game to play.

AoC will provide you with nothing more than a distraction, bought it, played, bored to tears with it, the PVP is ok, still lots of class balance issues to be sorted as for griefing, dont make me laugh, you die respawn and get humped again, change res point or instance, either way you lose nothing.
Its not PVP as you know it in Eve, its not even close, as for lag and latency issues, AoC has its fair share.
If you like grind and liked WoW you might enjoy it, still early days yet so who knows what will happen, as for me I wont be going back, just not my cup of tea.
