Thank you CCP!
That was all I wanted to hear honestly. It's good to know that they might not be real shots (duh I know you can set them up) But it's great to know that at least those wrecks in the screentshots will be in the game floating around!
I still wish you'd remodel the asteroids but that's another thread and another story :P
And Also understand, this thread wasn't about the trailers, those didn't show anything we couldn't see in game I understand that. And trust me I understand that your not using you DX10 models, I have the art book and OMG I can't wait until you do :P
So thanks for the reply, I'll add your reply to the op and we can "hopefully" let this thread end as your answered our *my* question.

Originally by: Sarin Adler For me it would be fair enough if I could turn on AA & filters, that's the only thing that is screwing me graphics wise as at 'low'res (1280x1024) in a small screen (17 inch) it's ugly. And I've all maxed out.
You can turn AA on!!! If you have an Nvidia card go to the driver control panel and select: AA - Overide any application setting. Then put it to whatever you want 4x, 8x, 16x, etc. I never play EVE without AA....at least 4x. You can also use a program called Nhancer to force AA and all that good stuff on if you are having trouble with the driver ctrl panel.
I'm ATI unfortunatlly, have tried several ways and it's impossible. On topic... CCP tactics are not fun at all, as these are not screenshoots taken from the current in game graphics (the ones EVERYONE can use I mean), please don't seel them as such. Post them as wallpapers or whatever, but not as screenshoots.

Originally by: CCP Redundancy Edited by: CCP Redundancy on 03/06/2008 11:45:50 I believe you can and do get comparable images from within the game world as it exists, so I don't believe that this is misleading. It would certainly be possible to be misleading if you were trying, but that's not what I believe we do, and I think you have an overly narrow view of what is and isn't representative of the graphical quality of the game that's portrayed in the screenshots (any screenshot without the UI clearly isn't selling representative gameplay).
I also notice that we specifically didn't preface the Empyrean Age trailers with a declaration that it was taken within the game engine (even if most of it was), which we do on most other videos because they haven't been touched up (with the station explosion, mainly). Even then, the trailers still aren't described as being representative of the gameplay, so much as the feel and vision of Eve.
Trust me I know, I've seen some eve vids (playermade) that look just as good as any trailer you make. I think the issue was the way they move or the way they "explode"
I mean I know you never said "taken form gameplay" it's just... the word "screenshot" is misleading not the pictures them selfs.

Hi everyone, it's about time I replied to one of these threads. Just a short introduction, I'm SessionChange and I'm the screenshot artist here at CCP.
As Redundancy has said, we have tools here which we use to set up scenes. We can take screenshots at many times the resolution of the screen and use these screenshots for marketing purposes. As someone stated above, textures alone are not enough to explain the quality of the screenshots, it is the fact that the screenshot is taken at roughly 8000 x 5000 resolution and then reduced in size that gives the impression that we are using uber anti-aliasing when in fact we are not.
As far as the scenarios are concerned and which Redundancy did not cover, specifically the shots of ships blowing up in ways hitherbefore unseen, I'll address those concerns now. There are new assets ingame coming in "Empyrean Age" and, as far as I am aware, these include but are not limited to the wrecks shown in our screenshots. The screenshots admittedly hint at things that are not available to players ingame; yes they will be able to see wrecks ingame that look exactly like the ones in our screenshots, but these wrecks will not appear when your ship explodes, they're static wrecks which are not destructable and used for the graveyards.
Now, this does not mean that someone cannot replicate our screenshots in-game when the patch is released as you will still be able to fire missiles at them and it will appear as though the ship is breaking up.
I hope this settles this thread and answers any questions that remained.
Thanks

Thanks for your anwer SessionChange, was very informative (about the wrecks & stuff). Well I hope someday we can at least use AA & stuff ingame, that would get us graphics at least close to the screenshoots you do, which are wonderfull anyway.

Yeah, at least in the US, and it'll get your ass fined by the Federal Trade Commission (and they don't take payment in deep fried puffins, you puffin murdering bastards).
Before "lol Iceland," CCP's an American company now, too, with that office in Georgia (I think--I get CCP and Adult Swim confused sometimes). They really should hire an American lawyer at some point.
Ex-player friend (lost one too many suicide kestrels and is all bitter and </3 at CCP) emailed me about the television commercial and was all "omg law suit." My exhortations to him to post "WTB: LIFE" in whatever game he's playing aside, he kinda has a point, albeit not about the commercial (I don't think they claimed that was in-game footage, did they?). --

I really hope this is part of the long awaited Trinity Part II effects graphics upgrade. That would be awesome!

That's cool so i's game game models, it's just not our ships doing the exploding.
Good to know it's not photoshoped or drawn in stuff.

Thanks for the reply, but things are still far from clear.
The 'wreck' in the screenshot still has it's engines on, exactly the same as the non-wreck in the background, so the Rifter is not merely shooting at a graveyard wreck.

Yes, maybe some Rifters are flying past an old wreck, which still has its engines running and looks brand new except for being only very slightly broken up, and the Rifters are firing missiles at the wreck instead of at the functioning transport vessels in the background.

The screenshots are clearly misleading.
Taken in 8000 x 5000 that is neither available or reasonable for the user and scaled down gives the impression of AA at a level that is not available to the client. Using static assets but leaving the viewer to assume this happens in "action" is similarly misleading.
None of this is illegal.
We just came to expect more from CCP and it's taking us a long time to get used to them just being another company.
A bit more...
- misrepresentation: screenshots - avoidance: hiding the blue bars in unfavorable threads - misleading the community: it's not a price hike, it's a simplification - general community mismanagement: Wrangler, sorry man but your not doing as good a job as you could
...and it'll start sinking in. Just let us live in denial a little longer.

Thanks CCP session change, that was a good and detailed reply... i had thought that using an extremely high resolution could be the cause of the nice videos and screenshots.... It'd be nice if you guys could release some of these ultra high resolutions to the client so we could actually make the same results as you guys....

tbh, I dont know what some of you guys are whining about.
Who cares if they are 100% in game or doctored up a little. Its marketing. Live with it.
Hell I'm greatful that they even responded. |

I don't think any publicly available graphic card (even in SLI or CrossFire) supports THAT resolution.

CCP SessionChange,
If at all possible, could you tell us how much new graphic assets (fancy term, I like it!) are there in EA expansion?
Cheers.
