Sorry to burst your bubble Stiz, but BIG keeps 10% of the amount made by ticket sales. It's up on their site under lottery rules.
It may not be as much as people thought but it is money all the same that CCP is helping them aquire.
Edit: I've also uncovered that to date BIG has waved there 10% administration fees. Very honorable of them but I still don't agree with what CCP has done.

This whine will get nowhere though.
If pirates get the ship, they'll show off and eventually lose it very fast.
If honests get the ship, it'll end up in a hangar until sold.
If a loony gets the ship (read Gold Magnate), it'll get blown up by said pirates due to envy and jealousy.
If Stavros gets the ship we'll never hear the end of his kiddy speak.

I'll make my point short.
Someone with the most isk(likely a vet/megacorp) is likely to win this lottery, resulting in getting the ship and making a nice profit out of it. Dont know for sure what random method BIG uses to determine the winner tho, but obviously more tickets equal more winning chance.
So nubs vs vet argument is false. A poor vet will lose, so will the nubs. Like if I'm the richest guy, I'd just create a nub character and enter the lotto, dont forget to transfer the isk of course

As long as BIG doesn't get the ISK (ie, its a second prize, or a part of the grand prize), I have no problem with this. CCP would not be giving BIG any ingame advantage besides maybe some prestige. It's neat to involve the players in this sort of thing.
TornSoul has been around since beta, and has always been a stand-up individual. I trust him with this, and it seems CCP does too. I know I won't win, but I'll chip in my mil for a few tickets, and it will be neat to know that another unique ship will be flying around EVE.
PS: Whoever gets this ship, I want screenshots!

We want to see a tournament that anyone can enter and fight to the death for a rare ship.

I for one think this thing stinks like crap, there are advanced and veteran players all over eve clammering for this kind of bship and what do ccp do? They give it to some random lottery so that it can go to some noob who will probably either keep it in a hangar and never use it, or ebay it.
The other high class bships had to be earned using skill and intense teamwork on the parts of the pilots in the frigate tournament. This ship will end up with someone who doesn't deserve it and has recieved it purely on luck.
Hell there isn't even any RP reason to justify this crock.
The ship itself is not in the game database as of yet, but an email that I have seen states that ccp will be patching it into the game next week or later in time for the end of the lottery.
These kind of ships should be able to be earned by all players to give higher level veterans something to aim for besides more meanigless ganking.
Anyway yeah so the whole thing stinks and if you disagree with me ur wrong.

never thought idd agree with you, but this is absolutely pefetic, they give a bs away for free to a corp that none are sure draw their loterys a fair way? ccp either pick it compeltely random out of the 3000 people that are online most often or organise somethign like the amarr frig battle.

And why the hell would the Gallentean Federation give their newest and best ship away in a freakin' lottery? I maen, it might land in the hands of a filthy Caldari. Wtf, who will you roleplay that?
Another lame tard decision by CCP. I still remember the Niblung Particle Bore miner that could bull 149/150m3 and then got pulled out of the game and replaced with unlimited miner ii BP's.
That was the mother of screw ups.
Oh well, hopefully someone worthy of it will get it. Tbf, I don't give a rats arse about noobs. The vet's earned their place in the world, noobs have still to earn theirs!

To be honest i think this stinks.
BIG's lottery might be legit, but i can't see why they should earn alot of isk just because they ran a lottery for a year, this is the second time a large corp earns alot of isk thanks to CCP.
Can people remember the first miner 2 BP?

what ever ccp decide to they can't please everybody. BIG's lottery is the oldest running player event in eve, it's as old as eve ffs. they deserve some credit and i doubt they'll keep ANY of the money.
u all whine about wanting more events.. here u have one. stop whining and enjoy the game.

I've not heard anything about it, so I don't want to rant too much :P but tbh why don't they make something where it's the prize of an event? I mean a real event, where people can go do stuff like the frigate wars one. Not a in the news only event where you don't even have to login to take part or win.
It doesn't have to be a fighting event either, it could be a hunt down the "abandonded" battleship event. CCP Stick polaris member in a certain system. Everyone tracks this guys down, asks in local which constellation the next polaris guy is and his name. Then track him down and so on. Until you find the final polaris guy.
If each polaris guy has a secure can anchoured next to him with a certain keyword as the label, you would have to write down all the keywords and use those added together with a space in between to unlock the secure container in yet another system. This container contains a single bookmark to the new battleship which was abandoned at a midwrap.
So you have a nice large event spread across multiple systems/constellations even several regions. Anyone can take part. Your skills using the scanner rahter than random planet/moon/belt hopping will get you an advantage but not prevent others winning.
Nobody knows the route in advance, but it may require bypassing set pirate blockades etc
Now thats an event imo. So long as they don't say it starts in xyz system at this time, it should be it starts in xyz constellation. That way everyone is spread out over multiple systems. In fact, think this through more, and replace the polaris guys with secure cans that you can open but not take loot out of (if this sort of object can be made) then you can open it and read the keyword as well as the next destination constellation.
Ok, so the above will require a little more planning and maybe some extra objects developing, but I'd love to take part in it and I'm sure many others would too.
It could be anything. Just not a lottery.

heres what will happen to the pastathron..
Some nub will win it...who can't fly it...
He will then train to be able to fly it.
Then he will want money to insure it... So naturally he will use it to mine with ^^
Then he will go to a .4 system to mine rare ore...
Some pirate will warp into his belt and hold the pastathron for randsom...
Then three things can happen...seeying as the nub has no money...
Either:
- Pirate joe doesn't realize its a special thron and blows it up
- Pirate joe realizes its a special thron but is forced to blow it up because the nub has no money
- Pirate joe realizes its a special thron and makes nub eject
So there is a 1 out of 3 chance that the thron will find its way to more worthy hands..

After gathering all the information from TornSoul and the person responsible inhouse (he's in Africa), I am allowing this to procede, according to our new policies regarding increased player participation in prime fiction and full support for player events.
The intention behind this is to show support to an player event thas has been held regularly for almost a year now and to show the community that we will further support player events in the future.
However, due to the questions raised here regarding favoritism and so everyone have a fair chance, I'm taking the following measures:
A) No BIG member is allowed to participate in the lottery.
B) BIG does not profit from this in any way. I will audit them myself to ensure this
C) There is a maximum limit of 1000 tickets pr. character (each @1000 ISK = 1M ISK)
D) We'll be giving an Imperial Apocalypse, not the Bougnisarin Megathron. The Mega was slated for another deployment.
E) If I see that ship on eBay, I'll trash it faster than you can say PayPal.
Now, that being said, you should get a ticket, you might get lucky
