We book our airfare from the US on priceline.com and booked the Nordica (one room for two of us) on Travelocity. Roundtrip & three nights for $1284 each.
Not too shabby

Edited by: Or Well on 01/08/2008 22:14:13 What kind of turn out was there last year? Specifically, how many people showed up? I'm trying to get out to there this year, and while I look forward to drinking with and demonstrating social value to people who are in alliances far more noteworthy than mine, I'm dreading the night anyone is in the same bar when I finally work up the courage to introduce myself to an Icelandic girl. I feel a little better knowing I won't be the only tourist with their own spaceship.

provided your not covered in boils and have bad breath you should have no problems with the Icelandic girls (I've heard).... Be foreign, speak foreign, look foreign....oh and when your needing a good chat up line come ask me, I'll be around for sure.

Edited by: Vladimir Nabokov on 15/08/2008 23:03:10 Edited by: Vladimir Nabokov on 15/08/2008 23:02:18 Whats the deal with these flight packages? Why does it say the early bird special is no longer available; as it is still three months away! I can't believe people are paying $1200 for a round trip and staying in 4 star hotels, is this only for rich people? The package deals seemed much more reasonable and I had hoped to prolong my stay in the country in hostels & exploring the area to justify the plane tickets.
Maybe some locals can help with bargain hunting? Is Iceland Express the cheapest way to get to/from Iceland from Europe? I notice a lot of the destinations don't have November flights which is rather frustrating.

All,
I am looking to collect a list of anyone in SCA planning to attend Fan Fest this year. I will be there for a full week and would love to buy each and everyone of you coming a beer or three.
If there is enough of you willing to come I will also be paying for an "Alliance" room during the event so we can hang out, raid Jita, kill Goons, etc in our own private meeting room. I am also planning another surprise or two for those attending if we get enough participants.
I have posted the link below. Just over 70 days till the event. hoping to see more peoples there.

Does anyone else get annoyed by the "OK lads, let's be specific: We want you to bring your ladies!"? NOT ALL EVE PILOTS ARE BOYS!
Some of us are, very definitely, *not* "lads" ;-P

Well, I suspect it actually says "OK ladies, let's be specific [...]". The thing is, only women can see it with their unnaturally good vision (their knack for detecting dust in a spotless environment should be evidence enough to support this theory), so the sentence works fine for both genders.
Ergo, you not seeing it means you're not really a woman.
PS. I also support their message that ladies should bring more ladies.

Will CCP please provide the exotic dancers to be at fanfest at all times. There has been a severe lack of women there in the past, and we pay damn well in our account costs, that they could provide us with the entertainment. Please note, the pirate girl from last year is the perfect example.

Well, in my experience you don't very often get asked for krona or isk, just a number - '500 please!'. One interesting thing is that cash isn't used as often as you may be used to in Iceland, most residents tend to use plastic for everything - taxi's and pizza deliveries are all payable via card, which is something that surprised me when I moved here.
One thing you may be interested in keeping an eye on is the exchange rate of the krona, which is currently fluctuating quite a lot.

No kidding... Last year the EUR/ISK Exchange rate was about 85 (1Ç got you 85 ISK) this year 1Ç gets you 135 ISK meaning that the fanfest got a whole lot cheaper for us europeans. (unless the prices have gone up in Iceland)
