1. we pilots of those ships do actually see them more of the time (like in POSes, when docked, etc.)
2. even cloaked you can see its outlines
3. on general principle
the imicus is so ugly... they didnt even bother remodeling it a bit (like adding little antennas or gimmicks like the original helios had them)... seems to me like a simple reskin. what a loss :( |

I completely agree, I can not understand why this change was made.. I expect these ship types to be a pass-over due to appearance.. I wouldn't care if it was a technical improvement, I'd train a new race before I few an ugly ship of my own race. |

I agree - I feel the same way about my vigil-based Cheetah, instead I get a Probe-hull. :(
At least the Imicus isn't THAT bad - have you taken a look at the Probe?
I'm wondering about flying the buzzard again - at least that Heron wasn't too bad a ship to look at... and since I have to spend hours looking at the darned thing... |

Functionally speaking nothing's changed, so I doubt anyone's going to pass it up due to looks. I think they'll be like myself, and just keep it cloaked all the time. :)

I'm with Gwenvahar, I'd hate to fly a ship of my own race that is butt ugly. I can't really see why they changed this in the first place, the Maulus was the perfect hull for the Helios.

Actually, I like the Imicus hull. I rather wish it was still that cool black that the Classic client uses though. I'm not all that fond of the grey-green look.
Oh, and someone else asked about the T2 Maulus hull. That's still in use, as the Keres, the Gal E-War friggie. |

I think they should go with the *actual* original imicus hull, which is now the navitas. Now that's an awesome hull *that* should've been the probing frigate, not some fugly imicus

EAF? Keres = t2 Maulus. It's kinda gold though (not sure I like the colour scheme compared to the old Helios).
I'd guess they changed all the hulls to make it so the T2 = T1 upgrade, rather than being based on a ship that has no relation to it. The imicus has a drone bonus and an astrometrics bonus, which is what the Helios does. I'm bummed too (even though I've never flown the Helios I do have the skills to) - the Imicus hull looks terrible compared to the Maulus hull. I'd second the Navitas hull, although maybe they'll bring in a t2 mining or cargo frig that uses that hull :o

The Navitas is so the better looker of the frigates, I just hope CCP are saving that one up for something special.

What I'm wondering is what was going through the designer's head when he spewed forth the Imicus model. I repeat, it resembles a LOPSIDED MONSTROSITY made out of SCRAP LOOTED FROM A 50's ERA SCRAPYARD that was WELDED TOGETHER BY A CR4CKHEAD. Why can't frigates in this game look like the SSV Normandy? =[

Well I can fly the Helios and the Buzzard but always preferred the Helios if for nothing else than the lava lamps. Alas the new look is not nice in the slightest, even cloaked I'd know it looked ****e, so it's off to the Buzzard for my probing needs. |

Let this die ffs. I don't believe a person who says they spent month training up to fly a ship only because it looks agreeable to them. What utter rubbish (unless you only bothered training up the basic skills to get 'into' the ship).
Guys its the same ship. Leave it at that. otherwise, make more whining threads with an actual solution, i.e. change the imicus model (thus changing the helios model).
Plus I like seeing the Imicus in this new light. For people who like a T2 Maulas, you always have that keres...

Hats off to the CCP ship modellers / art dept for the OLD Helios hull, it looked the part of a prober ship. You can see the original designer loved the ship, their job and put some thought into it.
Can't say the same for the new one, no love put into that model, I wouldnt be proud of it!

I too am disghusted beyond belief at the new Helios model. Butt-Ugly does not begin to describe it.
The only good side is that the damm thing should always be cloaked, so if I zoom out enough I don't notice.
CCP has repeatedly screwed up the whole modeling concept. There should not be ANY ships 'based on the T1 hull' - just make a nice new ship for all of the T2 variants. What is the point in 'basing off a T1 hull'? We live to see pretty spaceships, and now we got half of the ships as some sort of upgrade on an existing model.
It just makes no sense. CCP model designers must either be lazy, or CCP don't wanna pay new model designers. |

I really wouldn't care all that much about any model changes. It's the fact that whatever idiots design half the ships think it looks good to be asymmetrical. Sorry, but it's built into our genes, symmetry is just way more pleasing to the eye.
I started in a Buzzard, and I'm one of the few that crosstrained for the Helios ONLY because it looked better. The extra low slot is a nice bonus, but it could have been exactly the same in every regard and I'd still have trained for it. Oh well, time to go back to my Buzzard I guess. |

The Buzzard is kinda ugly too, but now it's all I'm gonna fly after I lose my Helios because the new one is ugly enough that it makes me wanna puke every time I look at it.
The good thing about the Imicus not having a T2 variant was that you could pretend it didn't exist.

Apparently Im alone liking the new hull.
Granted the old Helio was pretty, but the new one looks like a sneaky-sneaky scanner ship. They are not supposed to be pretty or sleek. But leave a impression this is a ship with a very specific role.
Personally, I'd like some antennas and what nots on it

I just want my cheetah to not look like a hastily slapped together model... it's a cheetah. It's supposed to be lean and fast, not an in-space sail-boat looking turd.
The probe is a terrible model, and slapping a solar panel on the side of it and calling it a cheetah does nothing for it. If anything the Hyena model should have been swapped to the probe model base as the cheetah has been in game longer

To be honest the Imicus bag o' sh**e model is far worse than the Probe model. I fly both coverts and am less stressed at the Minmatar model nerf than the Gallente one. Looks like some weird picture frame stand.

The old helios was a great ship. When it got nerfed I couldn't fly it any more, so I had to sell it, and waste 10 days training for a probe just to have a non fugly covops. If the helios had always looked like that, I would have never trained gallente frig 5.
