I have mixed feelings about it. I can't wait for this game to come out but I've heard it's gonna have a lot of anti-pirate (aka anti-paying customer) crap on it and securerom has a tendancy to think my computer has daemon tools on it when it doesn't .
I'm thinking of pirating it but I really don't wanna steal from a company that has put so much effort into such a kickass game.
Hmmmm.

I've been looking forward to Spore for a very long time. But I'm really worried they're gonna pull a Sims. That is, release a heavily crippled version of the game, and release the rest of it in expansion packs. __________________________

Apparently the creature editor is out this month. Full editor for $10 or a demo with 25% content for free. The final game won't be untill September I thought.

Hmmmm.
Maxis has a history of putting some rather obsurd security onto their games to prevent piracy. Heck, I recall when installing the sims on my computer I had to actually contact the company to reset the damn code because I stopped the installation process at a certain point thinking the installer had locked up.
I thought spore was canceled though, glad to hear its still coming, should be interesting to try it out. |

You know they originally said it was going to be released in Autumn 2006, right? __________________________

Spore has been indevelopment for way too long. If they delay it one more time then it will obviously be vaporware. The game looked ready years ago.

It's when a company 'develops' a fake game to get everyones hopes up to make sure they don't buy rivals games, or something along those lines.
It is very unlikely that Spore is vaporware, but considering that this looked ready years ago I would suspect it of being fake if EA jsut so happen to postpone the launch date yet again. |

Darkfall is sort of an example. First the devs promised an mmorpg that sounded too good to be true, then they promised it would be ready for beta and then postpone it...7 years later they are still being hush hush.
Another example is the Duke Nukem 3d, you can find other examples by searching for vaporware on wiki.
Again, I doubt that Spore is vaporware but postponing it yet again would be insane. |

Yeah Duke Nukem Forever is pretty much the textbook definition of vaporware. Also, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has been considered vaporware for ages. |

Also, if there's one game to buy (not pirate) in your life, this is it. Those people put an insane amount of effort into creating the game, and pirating it could possibly discourage them from making more kickass games.

another really good example of Vaporware is the game system called Phantom (extremely fitting name) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_(game_system) last I went to their official website, it was really just a sales-pitch to get more investors and very little else. no screenshots of games or anything... just a lot of financial talk. |
