I'd like to share this little thing that happened to my Corp mates. We log on and find we have an Eve mail. We are at war. Nothing new there since thats the way Eve works except for a few details which are a bit sickening and ironic. I'll just post a copy of the Eve mail my CEO got as a reason :
Quote: 2004.05.13 19:44:00 Greetings,
As you have no doubt noticed, BDCI has declared war on your corp. Very soon, your pilots will experience the thrill of combat in Empire space! Exciting, it is not? Nowhere shall be safe... except inside a station, of course.
This will end in one of two ways:
1.) You deposit the sum of 60 million ISK into my account. Why that number? Well, the number set by whomever it was your corp ****ed off in E&B. I'm just the messanger.
2.) We get bored hunting your members and move on to something else.
Number two is not likely to happen soon. I would urge you to take option one as soon as possible as I can assure you that my pilots can do more than 60 million ISK in damage to your corp in a relatively short time.
The choice is yours. Make the right one for yourself and your corp. We are mercs. This is not personal so don't take it as such.
See you soon!
Sel
That was sent by Seleene from the Body Count Inc.
Now for those of you who were in EnB and on Andromeda my guild was the Freedom Fighters. We came to Eve as refugees when EA killed EnB. The Corp is 99% from the same guild and the oldest member is barely 1 1/2 months old in Eve.
I have no issues going to war against another guild of the same age as us if just for the fun of it, its just a game.
Now we have a bit more complex situation, we have some person who has a grudge against Freedom Fighters in EnB and has carried that grudge with him here to Eve, has highered Mercs to hunt us down.
Now for the important question : Are we safe in our homes, our children, spouses ?
We already have someone who has a grudge from another game who is hiding behind this group of mercenaries .. I might need to change my real life name now and so do my Corp mates

ahh ...... good question i like to think that 99.9% of the time this kind of thing is in essence good natured and stays online
though i have been told of at least one time where a player of a game took it too seriously

Well, if you recieve any abuse through convos, local, evemails etc, file a harassment petition immediately.
Other than that I don't really understand why they want a war over 60 million. But one suggestion is that you look for an alliance and see if they are willing to help you it if you join them or something.
You can obviously fight the war alone too.

I'd like to say from the start, that so far, Body Count has acted with honor towards us, though ofcourse it's a little scary to know we might be fasing their guns this time tomorrow..
So while we'd like discussions about this, I dont want it to be seen as though we're slamminng or badmouthing Body Count Inc.

What I'm wnodering is who would be so crude as to do this from E&B. I can think of a few cowardly characters who we shunned out of our guild due to bad behaviour/language/stealing .
Rest assured one way or another I personally aim to find out who this is and deliver them a package with my name on it in the form of a podding.
Of course I hold no grudge against BDCi it's a MORPG and that is the role they have chosen to play. i do not know what my superioirs have decided to do yet, but in the meantime you shoot me i shoot you? :) spose i better upgrade my clone

This is BDCI's mindset, we attempt to make the targets of these contracts feel welcome to ask questions and discuss the options they have before them, in the end BDCI's goals are to make a profit and do so through contract killing, with this being said we strive to maintain a professional image while carrying out these contracts. _______________________________

I totaly agree with Henna, we have nothing against Body Count, they are mercs and they are doind what they are paid to do.
My only concern is the person who hired them. Incidents have happened in real life due to online games. SOme poeple take that too far and personally to have that thing happen from one game to be carried over into another game ? It really makes you wonder about safety.
It would have been different if who ever has the grudge actually moves up and faces us instead of hiding and cowering.
Seriously folks, be really careful while playing online games. Things might get nasty and not in the online world.
Call me paranoid but when you know it happened before you can be sure it'll happen again.

I can understand what you're saying Spacehulk. During our last contract a member of the "victim" corp sent real life death threats to both Jezzebell and Seleene. It was ridiculous. It was petitioned and I hope the GM's did something about it. The GM's won't tell you the punishments they give out.
Just make sure you petition anything like that. People that do that shouldn't be playing games like this.
As for the war, it would be easier if you paid up. If not, then we shall see you on the field of battle. ----------------------------

It is unfortunate that some people take games too seriously, but it is a fact none the less.
Im just a neutral bistander (pardon my spelling) but why dont you use the situation to your advantage?
You dont know the party that is bearing the grudge against you, but if im not mistaken, Body Count does... Why not pay the ransom, then pay Body Count double to track down your enemies, fair is fair after all...

I say you use your time to learn pvp, this is an invaluable opportunity for good experience and fun.
You're going to take heavy losses while learning, so stick to frigs, use stock equipment, ask for setup tips from experienced pilots, and always make sure that you have an updated clone.
Other than that, get on voice chat and start kicking some butt! _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

It would be nice to learn PvP against equally skilled players and not some professional assassins. If this loser who has carried a grudge over is such a big man why doesnt he just fight himself? 1 on 1 a frigate duel to the death.
Instead he hides like some coward behind the skirt of a professional assassin. I'm sure body count wants to make a profit but I have to believe there are other targets out there you could attack besides a bunch of newbies.
Just my opinion. |

Let me take this opportunity to clear a few things up.
1.) I have no idea what other merc corps are experiencing, but the influx of new E&B players/corps has spawned what seems to be an avalanche of vendettas. Over then last two weeks, BDCI has received more than one such contract. Apparently, the lack of PvP over in E&B let some anger build up and these people see EVE as their release valve for that. Let this serve as notice that this is not the first, nor the last contract of this type we shall attempt. Business is literally booming right now.
2.) I can assure BDCI's targets that I meet with each employer in a private convo and if they start swearing and talking like they are going to be sending people mail bombs, the convo ends immediately. In-game revenge is fine, but there is a line which we prefer not to cross. Myself and another BDCI employee have been on the receiving end of such nonsense and understand all too well that some people are better suited to playing Gran Turismo 3 than an online interactive game such as EVE.
3.) BDCI consists of players who have decided to pursue the merc path in EVE. Our goal is to do so with a level of detachment and professionalism that will speak for itself. We enjoy what we do, but there is no malice involved. Which leads me to my next point.
4.) To those who might raise their voices at attacking a n00b corp: **** off. For one thing, it's insulting to our target. And yes, I said target, not victim. I don't buy the concept of a n00b such as has become commonplace on these forums. Anyone with any knowledge of this game knows that a new player can be lethalafter three to four weeks of training. Look at corps such as Omega Academy as just one example. If our target wishes to put up a fight, then they will be met on the field of battle with respect accorded to any warrior. Smack talk means nothing; only the end result (who is in a pod) matters.
5.) DigitalCommunist raises an excellent point. While it would be easier, and most likely less expensive in the long run, to simply pay us off and make us go away, BDCI would not be unhappy if our target decided to throw everything they have at us. They might lose it all, of course, but they might do some damage to us as well and learn something in the process. As CEO of BDCI though, I would strongly advise against it. All the talk is amicable now, but when ships start exploding, people tend to get ratherą unstable.
In closing, the choice to pay or fight is now in the target corp's hands. The CEO or her appointed representative may contact me in game to discuss terms whenever they please. Good luck to all involved. -

Spacehulk, I have no idea what kind of skills you guys have trained. But this is an excellent opportunity to learn PVP while you have no Implants to loose.
Train missiles skills and use friagates and fight in groups, a group of frigates can take out a BS if they are properley armed and used. (mOo has a nice video showing it being done)
Hopefully you find out who your real enemy is

Piece of advice for you, don't pay them, 60m can buy a lot of frigates, you'd be better spending your money on supplies and fighting it out with them.
Perhaps some bellicose freelancers may join up with you just for the combat experience? I know if I didn't have commitments with Gradient I certainly would.
Don't be lulled by the facade of civility from these mercs, they don't call them 'dogs of war' because they are honourable. Expect a dirty fight and you won't be disappointed.
I daresay your nemesis will surface eventually, these people find it hard to resist the urge to gloat. Once you know who it is you know what to do! Personally I wouldn't hire 'dogs' though I'd do it myself, much more satisfying and honourable as well.
I wish you all the best in this.

To The Freedom Fighters:
If you're only a month or two old most of you, you will be no match for the experienced players of BodyCount. But don't let that get you down, and keep your clone up to date. This will be the best way to learn PvP and as someone already mentioned 60million buys a LOT of frigs Just be willing to lose lots of 'em and at least a few clones, and you'll come out the other side an able PvP'er...
I've lost a ton of frigs and cruisers this way.. fighting much more experienced players
Have fun (and don't count your ship losses, it gets depressing)!

best advice i was given is ... hide :)
yes merc corps like to fight and prolly very good at that . but i dont think anyone like to jump 25 gates then see he need to jump more 25 gates ...
check local , go out of the highways , split to small groups , keep on the run , watch local always make some insta and safe bookmarks ,
and you know one thing that enb has taught us is patiance .. use it :)
just make this contract the most annoying/boring thing that body inc had encountered . merc's like the thrill if not they would kill rocks , use that to your advantage .
that and if you can keep hostility / flame level to minimum and the war will be over in a week . and you might discover some interesting stuff in your travels :) .

You have to realise, that EVE is a game where the strong survive, and the weak die... the strong pick on the weak, thats why we are fighting the CA allaince, hehe.
forming a corp with mostlly EaB players will leave u guys open to attack, as most corps need a ballance, with old and new players....
if body count are looking for entertainment, celestial apocalypse would be happy to oblige, by filling up your war slots and moving back to empire:) ....

Edited by: Rana Mortius on 14/05/2004 12:04:22 as you are a new corp they (body count) likely know little about you.
stay on the move. this a good time to open new offices across the galaxy and get to see the galaxy itself.
as you stated you are about 12 players who have been in eve for a bit over a month. you probably dont have the kind of money that is asked from you. this 'war' will give you an excellent opportunity to get used to high risk life which will be a big bonus once you venture out into 0.0
- add all body count members to your list of buddies (this will make it easier for you to skim through the list of players in local and assess the situation. also you will soon learn your opponents online habits and be able to use timezones to your advantage) - make insta dock bookmarks for your headquarter (should you intend to keep using it for the time of war) - engage only at your advantage - drag the conflict out as long as you can (if anything this might inflict hefty costs on the person who issued the contract) - keep moving (if you set up shop away from your head quarter and are tracked down... move) - create scout alts that are not in your corp. use them to check if the station you intend to undock from is camped
all i can come up with. dont pay any ransom as it will only make you a bigger target.
you will be suprised how much a good war can spice up things :)

Look, it's quite easy to avoid an unwanted war if you're willing to use some cowardly tactics.
Simply put at least one alt for every main in the corp. Then exit the corp with the mains, keeping them in the (safe and impossible to declare war on) noob corps. Never take the alts from station, simply use them for hangar access, etc.
It's annoying and cowardly (although hiring mercenaries to kill noobs is just as cowardly, so I don't see why you should care), but at least you'll avoid losing ships if you really have no interest in fighting.

Just a thought but I am guessing that BDCI will be charging their client on a per diem rate as anything overly protracted would hurt their pockets if it were purely fixed fee.
Drag the war on for as long as possible, enjoy the PvP, watch your opponents carefully and learn from them and make your nemesis pay a lot of money for the privelege of you getting what will be very good PvP training at the cost of a few new frigates.

Hiya,
yeah I am the same person, but I'm led to belive that seen as though I left E&B well over a year ago now I'm assuming whoever took my character over cused that misfortune.
I think we had a few dealings/trades whilst i was the owner of that chracter, but I don't recall ever stealing or KSing during my E&B career. If it makes u any happier I'l gladly pay up in isk to clear the name of my E&B character..
Right on to other stuff.
We might aswell fight. What's a few frigates compared to the valuable pvp experience we shall learn on behalf of some coward? i for one will be stockpiling my frigates :D.
All the people that suggested we pay BDCI to remedy this situation by nuking whoever hired them is an impossibility. Of course I would love to turn the table on this coward, however the corp is still very new to this game and many of our members have only just moved from E&B hence they are just geting the skills to mine in bigger ships! Let alone using indy's to move the ore heh.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens and hope we don't get in over our heads

What I'm wnodering is who would be so crude as to do this from E&B. I can think of a few cowardly characters who we shunned out of our guild due to bad behaviour/language/stealing .
if you are the same excaliblur than in enb then i wonder why YOU write such things.... a guildmate of me lost a few high valuable items to you in enb (gm prooved that) and your guild did nothing to give em back... but thats another story.. im not the one who hired those guys but if your behavior here is the same than in enb then im all for it :)
btw if jobby is in the game send him/her my greetings will ya?
reactorbuilder :)
p.s.: this is nothing personal but after him writing THIS i had to reply :)
Hiya,
yeah I am the same person, but I'm led to belive that seen as though I left E&B well over a year ago now I'm assuming whoever took my character over cused that misfortune.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens and hope we don't get in over our heads
nah its ok.. if it wasnt you.. the guy owning your char stole 1 intent several crystal devices for the engine and other stuff.. worth about 4 billion enb-credits at that time.. but as i said its ok if it wasnt you :) -----------------------------------------------

Certainly was not!
Sorry for your misfortune.
I think I better check my old e&B account out, make sure nobody's doing any wrong doings!

I agree, fight them and learn something. It could be a very exciting time. But also remember this must end some time and the mercs have a contract to fulfill.
Dogs of War is not an unfavorable term. This is what the great Ghengis Khan called his four Generals of his Army. Sabudai being the greatest of these, he came very close to defeating all of Europe after the death of Ghengis Khan. As fortune would have it, the Great General was called back because the current Khan (whose name escapes me) of that time died and ALL Mongols had to return to choose a new Khan. So Europe was spared. BTW, he had already defeated Europes best, the Tuetonic Knights, in Hungary.
The Dogs of War should be mention not in a manner reserved for other less favorable types of personalities but rather with repect for their great accomplishments on the field of battle. Stellar Products and Quality Resources ticker: SPQR established 6-03

Darth, as a fan of Celest let me assure you that is not my intent. Quite honestly, why do you care, hon? We didn't start this thread and the attention it's getting is odd to say the least. It's a job. Let Freedom Fighters deal with it.
Originally by: Joshua Calvert 60M contract?

Agreed, Josh. It's a small contract compared to a couple other offers we have on the table and plan to pursue in the near future, but it keeps us busy. That's it.
Once again: Has this thread gone to three pages simply because they happen to be a former E&B corp? Why should that matter so much? Also, some of thier members are not as new as they might have you believe, but that too is beside the point.
The bottom line is that someone wanted to put the hurt on this corp. They contacted us, information was exchanged, an offer made, negotiated and finally accepted. I cannot go into more detail except to say that when the contract is done it will be done.
I simply find it extraordinary how much interest this little war has generated. Wars happen every day in EVE. It's not the first time a corp has done this, nor will it be the last.
I'm done here. See you all in game. -

I don't really get that part. They are new, so their clones are cheap, they can easily train to use missiles and get frigates, even if that wont win the war they can cause a lot of damage, definately worth more than 60 million if you have battleships.

1.) Creat an alt. 2.) Have alt join corp to keep it active. 3.) Creat another corp and have everyone leave current corp and join it or go back to starter corp. 4.) Enjoy playing eve for several months. 5.) At the end of that time see how much Body count is willing to pay you to release their war slot.

Our current stance is not to give in.
Yes we are new to the game but that doesn't mean we should be push overs.
We wont mind losing 60 mill of isk (A big sum for our Corp) in frigates and equipment. We have lost maybe 3 mill worth of isk (max) and they have lost an Elite interceptor (Crow I think) which sells for 6-9 mill ?
If our tactics hold out it'll be costly for both of us, but hey, its not us who started it
Got to love the Eve comminity .. Thx for all your supports.
And to Body Count : We have no grudge against you, you are role playing your Corp. The only thing I hate in the end is not knowing who hired you to do this

We would love to go after him BadIronTree, but he has chosen not to reveal himself, instead hiring a merccorps to do his bidding..
As we carefulyl point out, we have no grudge against BDCI themselves, they have behaved honestly towards us, well as honorably as you can when declaring war :) But we know it's not personal for BDCI.
I've told my guys to try to keep it cool even if they get their ships shot out under them and not resort to yelling and namecalling in public
In EnB we had a rep for being about fridndlyness helpfullness and integrity.. Yes there were situations, ofcourse there were.. And it seems something has come back to haunt us, and if we knew what, we would atleast have a chance at figuring out an appropriate response..
For now though, it's war, and we will do our best and take it as a leraning experience.. In this i refer to our Warleader Spacehulk.. If as he say, we have downed an interceptor, then I can only say, good job guys :) and ouch to BDCI ..
and no, you're not gonna shoot our BS'es.. mainly due to the fact we dont have any.. we have a lot of frigates, a bunch of cruisers and indys.. and more shuttles than.. well no.. everybody who does agentwork has lots of shuttles or a lot of minerals lol..
We're not rich.. oh i know, most anybody will never call themselves rich, but for us, a newish corp, the 60M upfront was too much, that and the fact that several of our members felt it was in essence blackmail.. not by BDCI as such, but we felt that if we paid up, that would send a message that we were a pushover corp, and perhaps make others turn to us for shakedown money.. We didnt like that..
Our goal righ now is to draw this out till BDCI tires of it and tel their employer to go jump in a lake.. And hopefully at some time we will find out who that is... At that time we will establish a suitable response.. Perhaps a Bene Gesserit style 'lesson'
Thankyou to those who have wished us well in this.. ****oo to those who havent.. and salutes to BDCI for their conduct so far

See my previous replies. Let me spell it out: We've already been paid for the war. The 60 mil termination fee was not set by us. Once the terms of our contract are met, the war will be retracted. Simple as that.

In response to this and to everyone else who for some reason seems to want to keep this thread alive: Freedom Fighters do not need your help. Our interactions with thier members thus far have actually been rather entertaining.
Example: Thier pilots met us head on in one system last night and not one cried about the outcome. That hardly seems like the actions of n00bs. In fact, their maturity level outshines many people who have been in the game much longer. No death threats or cursing, etc...

As far as to when it comes to the fact the war is over when its over thats a bit vague. You have your agenda and we have none. At the end of the day it comes down to what your goal is. What loses are acceptable to you since as a corp we have accepted any possible loss which we have come to be, maybe 60 frigates to cover the 60 mill and the outfits we use and what else ...
And just as a sideline note, why is Body Count conserned about this thread, it originally was posted in "disgust" about someone who remains unknown to us and has brought a vendetta over from another game. If he had enough isk to cover your expenses then thats more than what we got which comes to the fact that this person is better established than us as a Corp.
I only wonder if his Corp mates know about this

I think BDCI has a responsibility to release the name of the corporation that hired them. No disrespect intended, but what assurances does anyone have that you were actually hired?
Besides, if they didn't have 60M to start with, how, exactly, are they supposed to earn it if they have to worry about you destroying their ships while they're mining?

Our responsibility is to our client who has paid us to do a job and keep his identity secret. If he or she wishes to speak up, that is thier choice.
I also see no need to assure anyone about anything, but I will say this: out of the literally hundreds of corps in EVE, are you suggesting that BDCI just arbitraily picked one to harrass? What gain or profit is there in such an enterprise? -

To Jezzebell,
Not an alt just donĘt play that much and not a forum troll (it was forum troll you said right?) so I donĘt post much (LoL more or less never actually).
But! since kids play these games I was just amazed of the thought that CCP might consider it OK to have those words in a signature picture, even more amazing is that you directly feel that you have to snap at me for pointing out something you should have understood was more or less wrong.
I have no problem with the general discussion in the post just thought that your signature was inappropriate (there is sadly enough material out on the net stating to often that girls are ******) donĘt need to feed that to the kids here.
Just out of curiosity are you a girl in RL? If so you do you have this sad way of looking upon yourself or?
Last line might be a bit out of line just felt I had to ask, no bad intentions just curiosity.

: Well, we can extort a few million isk from them in exchange for us not killing them.
: But if they're new, how are they going to have the money?
: They may not. But if we declare on someone and give it a really weird reason, they're bound to post on the Eve forums... That'd get us some business for sure!
: But who can we declare on...
: Drat! Some n00b in "The Freedom Fighters" mined my asteroid before I did! Let's declare on them!
: Hey, they're from EnB! Let's tell them that someone's got a grudge from that game, and wants us to take them out!

An amusing post, Mystikos. I will treat this as you wanting a serious response, but will consider any other such posts as flame bait.
For one thing, BDCI is not hurting for money. The members of this corp are not alts. We spent a long time doing various other things before pooling all of our assests for a common vision. Those assests consist of ISK, ships, BPs, etc... Let it suffice to say that we are very confrotable with our current financial status.
I posted previously that there is a lot of animosity left over from E&B and that was not an exaggeration. For the most part, they seem to be a fine community and I welcome them to ours, but apparently there are some people who are still upset about a kill stealer in the Nifilum Cloud (spelling) or because someone got them killed and then refused to 'jump start' them, and so forth. These people see EVE's PvP enviornment as a way to get back at those who they feel wronged them.
It is not BDCI's job to counsel them and offer them solace, especially not when they are waving tens of millions of ISK in the air and asking if we would like to kill someone for them.
I will agree that there is one thing about your hypothetical convo that is true: If person "C' were actually in my corp and babbling about mining, yeah, he would probably get yelled at a lot. -

Right for a start ok i misread i thought it basically said that someone acted like a *****er in Nif my bad but if you played EnB and read it, it makes sense.
Secondly im not trying to baffle you with my wisdom cos if you ask any EnB player that knew me i know precisely squat i used to just point n shoot, I was just saying it was a dead sector so if someone got upset it was a long time ago.
Thirdly if your worried about keeping the post alive why the hell do you lot keep posting here?? I see a reply from you and seleene as the first ones after my post so you cant be that worried about it.

How long have you been playing this game? There is cursing going on all over the place. I would guess that there are not many children under the age of 16 that play this game. Most people that age could probably put my cursing to shame.
I would also guess that the average EVE player age is close to 25 or so.

Currently we are not paying. There have been skirmishes from both sides and its enough to say that both sides had their loses. Ours are not severe financialy though.
Yes its a learning experience and I have learned alot from the forums (the study materila is great) on deciding setups and tactics. As a Corp we are not even upset with Body Corp and actually are having a pleasant time. We are planning on taking loses, alot of loses and all of them as frigates
Also I am deeply touched by responses I have obtained inside the game let alone here. I guess I have experienced only part of the community and most of it has been good if not great.
I only wish I'd know who that little p***k is who hired them and I wonder if his Corp actually knows about it

No just wanted to know if you had any rules and ethics in your corporation.
How long have you been playing this game?
Since the beginning of May.
There is cursing going on all over the place.
Yes I have seen this and all I can say about it is that itĘs a shame that most MMORPGĘs bring out the worst in people (not all people but amazingly many of them).
I would guess that there are not many children under the age of 16 that play this game. Most people that age could probably put my cursing to shame.
Well that is the problem isnĘt it? Just because people are in a rather protected environment (no one knows your real name, where you live, and no risk of the person you curse will beat on you etc) many of they suddenly drop down to some caveman stage and cant use normal conversation to resolve differences in opinion.
I would also guess that the average EVE player age is close to 25 or so.
If your so worried about children why don't you go volunteer at the YMCA and leave the rest of us mature people to our fun and games.
Well there is a chance that youĘre a grownup but mature I think not, if you where you would not fall into sarcastic comments and swearing to make your point.
Thereby I rest my case there is nothing more to say I will not add more comments to this tread, those who understand what IĘm aiming at should have got the point by now.
And by the way stay of the boards there is just a lot of trollĘs on them.

Simple guys, the buncha hoe's will get tired of hunting you soon enuf, there's little or no glory, bragging rights or isk for them, so keep em real busy, and u know what?
The hirer will then have to stomp up more and more isk to keep Hoe's Inc (BDC ) interested, so eventually you will outlast them both, and u will have gained mucho respect and learned how to handle urselves very well
If u shorta isk lemme know, tiz only a morsel the jackals require to feel good bout their chosen role's in EVE

This is just an example why we are in respect to the Eve community, the support it has. As far as funding and expenses we are doing well. Our losses as of yet have not even exceeded 5 mill isk (got to love ores and BPCs) and as a Corp we are learning to pvp quite well. As a Corp we have no short term (and currently no long term either) plans of giving up the war, we are enjoying it actually.
Give us another week as other members get their skills organized and the tables will turn. I think BDCI has already seen a change in combat outcomes. I don't have the official figures now but the kill ratio is about 1:2 in favour of BDCI (maybe a max of 1:3) but who cares if all we lost was Frigates and one blackbird.
We have given BDCI a professional attitude (since this is a game) and they have done the same and as a Corp none of us has a grudge against them (none of us has an immature attitude towards this).
My advice for all noob corps in our situation, don't be intimidated by any threats you recieve from any other corp. Our Corp had a lack of the needed skills but nothing 7-10 days wont fix in training and the prey will be the predator.

heeh. Without compromising the Merc's contracts, and if you cannot deduce whom your fellow E&B refugees with a grudge are, hire your OWN mercs to engage BC. The fighting will be guaranteed professional engagements that way too .
IMHO try to trace the source. Don't bother asking any mercs, as any who would tell you are too untrustworthy to be believed, double edged sword there eh?
You can believe that payment will have the stated effect, however it's entirely up to you. You may in fact lose greater financially by resisting, but you may also have more fun .
If this doesn't sounds like fun to you AND you don't want to give in, hire mercs. Good ones.
I mmmmmay also be pushing for this because i see it as an integral part of the story that more profit-minded, non-fighter corporations field and maintain private armies and mercenaries to protect their interests, coldwar stylo, and rarely engage directly, with Mercs who may have been side-by-side last week blasting each other today, many not knowing each others' true employers....

BDCI are legit. They have experienced players, they like to fight and know how to do it.
I can (sarcastically) see motives for one former EnB corp to want to hire mercs to do it's dirty work vs another former EnB corp. I mean you have such nasty things you can do to people to **** them off in EnB - Like kill steal, or worse yet 'roid steal, camp the mission terminals incessantly! OMG!!!
Get a grip people.
For - BDCI - Keep up the good work!
For - The Hiring Corp - C'mon! How lame is that to not fight them on your own. Fight them yourselves. But maybe that's what I've come to expect from many former hardcore EnB players. IMO there is NOTHING in EnB worth fighting someone in EVE over - NOTHING.
NOTE - If the hiring person is an INDIVIDUAL and not a corp then - I can sorta see why you wouldn't fight them on your own and why the amount of ISK is so low.
For - The "Victim" Corp - Good luck, have fun, treat it as a learning experience. It's all part of the game. As for the hiding and running advice. Ignore it. Don't be pansies. BDCI are going to use frigates and cruisers (maybe a BS or two) vs you. Why? 60mil isn't enough cash to risk using anything larger. So it's not going to be that bad.
Remember - This game is nothing like EnB (I played EnB from release in 2002 till I started playing EVE July 2003 - (L141 Trader on Pegasus) - So I know what i'm talking about).

I just have to get a quick snipe at Adrax in, so don't mind me.
Adrax, I really don't care what your moral code of ethics includes, but kindly keep it to yourself. Have you heard of freedom of expression? No? I thought not, since you seem like your typical unrefined, rule-imposing Caldari (did I mention they have no sense of style?). Trying to have someone's signature graphic or post removed is just plain low, not to mention imposing on another's right to free expression, which is what you've done to Jezzebell. I don't know what was included in Jezzebell's signature, but I'm certain she had a right to display whatever it was; if you didn't like it, no one was forcing you to look at it. Honestly, I would have thought every Caldari would have learned their lesson when we handed your butts to you and took your Homeworld, not that you deserved it to begin with. Anyways, do try to keep your hypersensitive ethics and morals or whathaveyou, to yourself from now on, lest I be forced to contact a Gallente task force to teach a punk Caldari a lesson.
You'd think a Caldari would have learnt from history; ah well, they always were low on Intelligence.

Edited by: Seleene on 26/05/2004 22:19:46 Riz has hit upon all of the salient points as well as I ever could. His analysis of the situation is spot on.
Yes, we were hired by an individual. We took the job as an opportunity to get a couple of our more rusty players back into the swing of things and also because our 'employer' paid the agreed upon sum up front in advance. We are in the process of gathering intel and gearing up for other jobs even as we complete this one.
Yes, we could quite easily be camping the target corp with a metallic wall of battleships. However, there is no need to use or risk those assets in this type of operation. Besides, frigates and the occasional cruiser is much more fun.
The addition of another merc corp declaring war on BDCI, ostensibly to defend the target corp, was an interesting twist to all of this. However, they cannot.. correction, will not affect anything my corp does with regards to this war. We welcome the addition of more orange dots, but unless they stayed glued to our targets, their interface in our contract obligations will likely be minimal.
I would, however, like to address a couple points directly:
Originally by: Henna Steele Seeing the war Escalate, even though it was rather onesided.. what with us doing most of the loosing of innocent little Kestrels, it was some shock to us to see BDCI swell their ranks with 'Sharks with friggin lazerbeams' (spelling?)
You have lost more than just a few Kestrels, and adding two pilots for the first time in BDCI's existence (the corp was originally founded late last year) is hardly swelling our ranks.
Quote: We see no choice than to escalate ourselves, and have secured the services of Mercenaries ourselves for your amusement..
While I respect the corp you have hired, I'm not certain of the result you wish to achieve by this, but we thank you for spicing thing up a bit!
Quote: This can be stopped whenever BDCI feels prudent, just retract the war, and we'll shake hands and declare no (too) hard feelings..
You were offered the chance to buy out the contract early on, for a very reasonable price, yet you chose to fight. The war will end, quite simply, when BDCI meets the demands of its contract and not sooner.
I can't believe this thread is probably going to hit six pages. -

Someone could probably make one of those little movies out of it if they wanted to...or actually write it up...maybe CCP should do that if they have time.

Hmmm k sry won't say anything about that thing I'm not gonna say anything about anymore, or did I just say something about that something I just said I wouldn't say anything about any more, and does that mean I shouldn't say anything about that something I wasn't supposed to say anything about cause it's saying something about something I shouldn't say anything about? I'm confused, and bored at work.
My advice, don't drag names from other games into the next game you play unless you're absolutely sure you got a good rep. And from the looks of things you wheren't sure, you even gave away your EnB char that bears the same name. Not a smart move. But now you are this stage enjoy the ride. 60mil doesn't buy much of war so it'll be a short ride. And pls realise that the fact that it's just a game doesn't mean that people shouldn't get angry, and shouldn't hold grudges.
EVE=PvP at every lvl and with everything you do. War is just one aspect of that, but it is a mayor part of what makes this game. To Seleene I didnt intend to imply that we hadnt lost anything but Kestrels.. that was atleast not my intention, you have been diligent in prying ships of our hands, I just figured a good percentage of those were kestrels..
As for swelling.. well perhaps I should have used another word, I intended my post to acknowledge that we were still having fun, reacting to your moves etc.. That is also what was intended with our hiring of a couple of mercs.. both to help us, and to amuse you.. Most of us FFS'ers are still working at the combat skilsl we feel we need, and if we can keep you otherwise happy and occipied, that gives us the time we need to better meet you at a level playing feel.. Even you must admit that it's not that much fun for you hanging outside a station and waiting for one of our kestrel pilots to peek outside and blow him up.. I'm not exactly saying that we should coordinate duels at dawn style engagements, although that is certainly something I've considered.. Its the stalemate type of camping that is boring for you I suspect..
Yes, you did offer that we could buy out of the war.. We rejected that after some discussion.. But in all humour I felt it only prudent to offer to accept your surrender.. I am treating this war as a learning experience, but nowhere does it say I must become humourless and sit grumbling in a corner eh? It was suggested I demand your immediate surrender and warreparations payed.. I felt that would be harsh :)
And yes.. 6 pages.. yay we're popular.. or something. or you are.. or something... I still care no personal bad feelings about all this, confusement yes, but not real anger..
Oh, btw that alt of mine you podded in its shuttle : Shayera One, not Shaylan One .. just for your records dear ;)
It lasted all of what ? 10 seconds the first time, and got away in a shuttle the second.. That got my adrenaline up and running I tell you..

Boring, yes, but it's all part of the job. Since the war started, your corp has been unable to perform any sort of large scale group operations, which in itself is economically damaging. The few times your people have come out in force have been great fun and I'd have no objection to a few pre-arranged set piece engagements if you so wish. Just contact me in game.

Got us right where you want us, do you?

It's just a job to us, Henna. When you buy out the contract, or the terms of our employer are met, it will end.

I wasn't there, but thanks for the info and we will update our records accordingly. Now quit making us kill your alt and get out there and have some fun yourself. -

If its all the same, I'll wait a couple of days before showing myself on the field of glory (*couhgh*)... Tomorrow I reach missile 5, then it's heavy 3.. you know the drill.. You guys have learned us the showstopping value of cruise missiles, atleast untill the missile nerfing patch
In all seriousness though.. I'm still kinda fuzzy on this 'until the terms of the contract is met', Thing is.. we dont know those terms.. As far as I understood our convo's it does not call for our destruction as a crop (thx $deity for small favours) but we're kinda in the dark then.. Is it set amount of destroyed property ? set amount of time where we have diffuculties functioning ?
Can I have a little bone of info here ?
All that aside, I'm glad we're all still being decent and good spirited about it.. Not that it aint frustrating for my corpmates, cause in that regard you have certainly succeeded, but I've told them several times to keep it cordial, both in game and here on the board.. I know tempers can flare.
I'll relay the idea of pre agreed engagement style combat to my peeps.. I think we can acoomodate each other here.. I'll let you know what we find out..

Well I read the first few pages but not the rest....
The one thing I have to say is that EVE is NOT a game where a corporation wholly founded and composed of new players stands a chance, and nor should it ever be so.
If you had all joined other corps and built yourselves up first you'd have alot more skills and PvP experiance and be far better placed to deal with the situation.
Still, respect to you for fighting. I'm not trying to get at you with this post, just that I see alot of few-week-old chrs with few-week-old corps, and they invariably cant handle themselves and end up in trouble.
