Edited by: doctorstupid2 on 25/06/2008 03:32:09 So I was fitting up a dominix today, in my typical fashion with 2x LAR II and 2x Aux Nano 1x Nano Accel rigs, undocked, hit overload and showed info on my reps.
Something was wrong.
With the two aux nanos, each rep cranks out 1039.93855735 HP/cycle without being overloaded. Overload bonus is listed as 10%. So all logic dictates that 1039.93855735 x 1.10 = 1143.932413085, right?
Rep on the left is not overloaded, rep on the right is. Both are attached to the same ship at the same time.
The overload bonus is 57% what it should be, i.e. penalized to the same percentage as the third module (100% -> 87% -> 57% -> 28%).
As it is, with the stacking penalty on the rigs themselves, an XL Booster II with boost amp II, backed with 1 x operational solidifier and 2x cap sa***uards, is already more effecient in terms of HP/sec, cap/sec, and HP/cap than 2x LAR II with 3x Aux Nano.
What possible balancing reason could there be for this? And I damn sure didn't see anything about this in the patch notes, and distinctly recall it not being penalized previously (EFT 2.5.2 agrees with my recolection)
Someone please tell me I'm imagining this.

Overload is factored before the aux nano pumps are applied if I recall correctly. Doesn't matter on a single aux nona pump but it does on two.

I don't even know if this was an "EA" nerf, several other things were definitely like this before the patch. I bugreported it a few months ago regarding ECM and SDAs and was told it was by design, as otherwise people would get the jam strength too high and it would be overpowered.
I thought making it stronger was kind of the point of overloading, but No says CCP.

Could be just an old display bug making a comeback. I remember for instance overload gun RoF/damage getting stacking-nerfed with weapon upgrade mods RoF/damage bonuses in the early days of Thermodynamics, and it was supposedly merely a visual bug back then.

I agree with the op. What is the reason behind stack nerfing overheating? It should be stacknerfÖ free. If you fit your ship with 4 or 5 mods of the same type - then your ship is specialised in something and in that something it can't get better without falling apart. Which is where overheating comes in. I believe that was the original CCP idea so it'd be nice to get explanation on it.

Probably the easiest way to test would be to find a friend who doesn't mind getting shot a bit and throw on a missile launcher and seven or eight BCS, fire a few missiles at your friend, then overload and fire a half-dozen more. Take a look at his combat log (just on the off chance the display bug might affect yours somehow) and it'll immediately be apparent whether your firing interval dropped by 20% or 1%.

Shield Booster overloading also has stacking penalties. I found this out while trying to work out why my shield boost bonus wasn't what it should be when using a couple of shield boost amps at the same time.

This is still broken as hell.If there's a legitimate reason for this, I don't see why it couldn't be included the EA patch notes.

I recall when overloading was introduced, CCP said it would "add a whole new dimension to the game", and they made a lot of fuzz about it like it was a new killer feature in this game that would have justified a new "expansion" (it finally turned out to be a feature that not even justifies ******* up the whole module interface, which it does)
Now apparently it turns out that overloading also adds a whole new dimension to game balance. Unfortunately, CCP can't afford to hire the whole new dimension of game designers needed to handle that, so they decided to make overloading viable only for a select few modules, such as webs.
Working as intended, I'd say.
I won't cry about lost training time though. Energy Management V, is nice to have.

Pretty coherent: your guns aren't stacking nerfed as they have nothing to stack with; you overload the gun/missile launcher, not the magnetic stabilizer, or heatsink or gyroscope or ballistic control.
About the armor rep it seem an effect of the stacking nerf of rigs for armour repairs. Seem a bit absurd to stack nerf dual rep system if that is what you are saying as it is already weaker than shield boost and amplifier.

I've not yet managed to overload aux nanos either, yet the reps' overload bonus is stacking with the aux nanos. Same applies to shield boost amps.
What I'm saying is the overload amount bonus of armor repairers and apparently shield boosters is now stacking nerfed against rigs, as in the overload bonus is being counted as a module. Someone else pointed out that boost amps are stacking against the overload bonus as well, in my first post I assumed this didn't apply to shield boosters at all as there are no boost amount rigs; I was incorrect.
Ignoring any differences between armor and shield tanks, it's still patently absurd. |

This is seriously dumb.
It's a stealth nerf to PvP active tanking which is seriously in need of buffing, not nerfing.

There's more to this than just reps, ECMs come to mind as well.
Also, webs/disruptors' overloading is stacking penalized with a skirmish gangmod(!). I.e. normal web's 10km, overloaded is 13km, web with gangmod is 13,150km, but overloaded web with gangmod is not 10*1.3*1.315=17,095. Instead it's 16,578=10*1.3*(1+0.315*0.87). Awesome, eh? Especially when you only come to know this after a month's worth of training 
That's been bugreported for ages, but nothing's changed so far... and I honestly don't think something'll change in near future.
