Virgin media cable has been one of the most stable conntections ive found to EvE in the UK.
I have had no problems logging in the past few days while people have been getting disconnection problems and I know from past tracert's that my connection with them to CCP goes through limelight. I have only had problems connecting SINCE CCP closed the limelight connection so basically to solve one groups problem they are screwing another

I don't see how Virgin Media can be to blame when Evemon says the Tranquility server is down!

Evemon connects through the same route as your client does so if your client cant connect then evemon wont be able to

no ccp are stopping you from playing as they have cut the connection between ccp and limelight ( who virgin use apparently ) not 100% sure about that, but from other threads thats the feeling i get.

No, virgins connection went through limelight to connect to the eve servers and it seems since CCP closed the connection to limelight we have been unable to connect, it shouldn't effect any other programs your using as they aren't blocking limelight

But that message about closing the connection to limelight has been on the login screen for days. Its only this morning that we're unable to connect.

It's possible, if they've blocked the ports. I'd be incredibly ****ed off if they have, though. And as far as I'm aware, Virgin don't use Limelight. At least not in the UK, if they provide services in other countries I can't speak for those. I haven't been having problems since the whole Limelight thing started, only today.

For those that cant connect - try running ping plotter or a tracing tool and see where the connection is getting dropped/ refused/ timed out. Then you'll know whether to be screaming at your isp's customer support or CCP's.

What annoys me about this is that they have closed access through this Limelight because it was causing disco problems, well it wasn't causing me any problems at all, but it is now that they have blocked access, how is that fair?

not sure if this crash is related to something that happened last night where my corp all lost connection at the same time and server status went to unknown briefly, and not all corp lives in uk

It does not appear to be a crash as plenty of ppl are playing atm.
If devs monitor this section of the forums it would be nice to let us poor innocent virgins know wtf is going on and how soon it will be fixed.

I have just had a conversation with a virgin media guy, who happens to play eve himself !!! Lucky or what He went away to investigate, and promplty phoned me back with the response that the limelights network is eves responsibility and not virgin medias. In other words vigin customers have been cut off from the game by ccp itself.
Explanation and time frame for fix please CCP

Mine stops at the same IP, apparently that's the "RIPE Network Coordination Centre" in Amsterdam if that means anything to anyone.

This is very annoying as I have had no issues with EVE, and obviously I am routed through Limelight, and now I have issues since I cannot connect.
Well Elliot here has just started BS 5 and I will have to break the EULA and get someone to change my alts skill to Carrier 5 and then see what happens upto the point where my current subs run out.
Oh and CCP don't ***** about me having to get a mate to change my skill, this issue is of your making and not mine. I had no problems at all but it seems you have cut me off from the game I have played for over 2 years.

well atm it doesn't look like it will be sorted before downtime, on virgin as well
maybe they don't actively use limelight but possible that somewhere along the line limelight is used which may be the case or something not even related to limelight but one of the other companies.
Who knows?

I am too, but I can't connect. This would happen on the day I stand to lose money by not being online.

Edited by: Mithfindel on 26/06/2008 11:25:05 Edited by: Mithfindel on 26/06/2008 11:22:32 Not in UK, but technically, even if the direct connection to your ISP is cut, the connection should be able to route via the Internet. Apparently some router at RIPE (which is an institution governing the IP address usage in Europe) is trying to route you to a link that is down. Or that is my somewhat-educated guess.
Edit: Traceroute to given IP address 87.237.38.201 from my work site sitting on the Finnish University network fails after reaching the point where Telia networks (Sweden) connect to CCP, so it sure isn't just a Virgin Media problem. The last point is ccp-ic-124901-ldn-thon-s2.c.telia.net (213.248.90.90). After that the connection just times out.
Edit2: D'oh, downtime at the time of posting.
