The BIG Jovian Body Parts Gathering
In the spirit of BIG's motto "Everywhere ū Everything" we have decided to try and accomplish the epic feat of collecting as many Jovian Body Parts as possible, in order to restore the Jovian liaison Misu Banyia.
However, we will try and accomplish this in a fashion, which will benefit as many citizens as possible in the EVE universe.
Instead of one person (or corporation) gaining the sole benefit of any reward that might be offered by the Jovian Empire, BIG will strive to see that as many as possible can gain from this.
What we offer to do is the following:
- We will collect all your Jovian Body Parts, and hold them for you in a common 'pool'.
- You will still own whichever Jovian Body Parts you have contributed with.
- Any reward given will simply be split among those contributing to this monumental task (based on their contribution).
- This way - Even though you only posses 2 Jovian Body Parts, you will still get a chance at a part of the reward.
Consider that:
Not many will be able to accomplish the task of getting together the required bulk amount of 1000+ Jovian Body Parts.
As such - Many many Jovian Body Parts will simply go to waste - Which would be a shame as it will hurt the Jovian attempt to restore their liaison Misu Banyia.
In our opinion, the more Jovian Body Parts collected - The greater the chance of restoring Misu Banyia and gaining the gratitude of the Jovian Empire.
So instead of letting your Jovian Body Parts go to waste - Add them to the BIG pool of Jovian Body Parts.
How to Join
Put up an escrow mission in Fricoure 8-3, lock it to "Gilani" (a member of BIG) and set the duration to 7 days. Please put in the message part which Empire you wish to 'support' (ie. "Amarr", "Gallente", "Minmatar" or "Caldari" - or simply put nothing, if this is of no concern to you)
Addendum 2004.05.18 The need for a 'vote' is only needed if you are contributing with Epidermis Sliver's - The other body parts are empire specific. Also - Complex Fullerene Shard's are now confirmed to not beeing needed.
BIG will then collect all the Jovian Body Parts into a BIG pool, which will hopefully become the largest in the EVE universe (and thus insure we together will get any reward given)
If the reward given is not suitable for sharing among all the contributors, BIG will make sure to 'liquidate' it, so that everyone will get ISK instead (maybe via another BIG Lottery special - or simply an auction). The reward is of course in addition to whatever ISK value the Jovian Body Parts will be sold for.
'Majority vote' will decide which empire the collective pool of Jovian Body Parts will be handed over to. Each Jovian Body Part a participant contributes with will be considered a 'vote' by that participant and the remark on the Escrow mission will determine which empire the participant votes for.
Jovian Body Parts put up in escrow without an Empire designation, will be ignored when counting the votes (we will consider the votes as 'abstained').
The progress of the BIG Jovian Body Part Gathering can be followed here: The BIG Jovian Body Part Gathering (IGB compatible)
Another one of our mottos "The whole is more than the sum of its parts" has never been truer.
BIG also runs the longest running event in EVE ū The BIG Lottery - which recently has been donated an Imperial Apocalypse by the well known Gallente holoreel actress Martina Monterneux as the prize in the current round. BIG Lottery

Nice initiative, but one question..
When you specify who you want to support, how are you going to work that out? Is it simply going to be a vote as to who the parts go to? I'd very much doubt that BIG can pull together the 4000 parts needed for one "delivery" to each race. So surely people will be blindly giving their parts over with no prior indication of whether they can support their own race, which kinda takes away the RP aspect of it.
I'd also like to see how much the empires are offering, most people that have made the investment to buy up the parts have paid over a million per piece, and thats a straight billion isk for 1000 parts.
Thirdly, and finally.. we don't know if the empires want just the biological components yet, or the fullerene aswell. It'd make sense only the biological stuff needed, as the capsule that Misu was in won't be needed to put her back together. Announcement maybe a day too early in my opinion. Guess we'll see tommorow.
That said however, seems Big come up with more and more good idea's every day. Nice move.

I may have misunderstood everything, but didn't we get one part of the body and one part of the ship? And is it not only the body part that is asked for?
Good move though

Most likely - But as info is scarse atm, we see no reason to rule out the fullerene shards just yet.
Should it later turn out that some parts will not be requested - Those will ofc be returned to the contributors. BIG Lottery

Edited by: Swift on 17/05/2004 23:29:06 Just to clarify.. the reward seems to be in three parts:
- Contributors will get their 'share' of the isk reward for the 1000 parts on behalf of whichever Empire the contribution goes to depending on number of parts submitted.
- The Empire that it is submitted for is chosen by vote per part and the 'reward' will most likely benefit all people of that race whether they submitted or not it seems (speculation - access to Jove space, increased standings for later and so on).
- A 'special' Jove prize would most likely be awarded to BIG from this statement in the news:
'There have even been rumors that the Jovians will reward those pilots or corporations most prominent in the collection process, though this has not been officially confirmed.
It is this prize that you will then attempt to split? So if its not possible to work something out i.e blueprint copies, you will attempt to lottery it off and split profits etc?
Thanks in advance,
-Swift

The empires will be paying cold hard ISK for each part. "the empires will start buying back selective body parts on the market" The ISK BIG gets via the direct sale of the parts, goes straight back to the contributors (ISK per part)
The Joves might reward the most contrubuting empire "in what way the Jovians will reward the empire that collects the most body parts" This will not be a reward aimed at BIG/contributors, and as such nothing we can 'give back'.
The Jovians might furthermore directly reward individuals/corps selling the most parts "rumors that the Jovians will reward those pilots or corporations most prominent in the collection process" Should BIG end up as a recipient of such a direct Jovian award, the nature of the reward will dictate how it will be divided among the contributors. This could be via the BIG Lottery, a standard auction or... who knows - All depends on the nature of the prize. Main objective beeing to reward all contributors based on the contributions. Yes.
As they still belong to you - BIG is simply 'handling' them.
If you're in it for the quick ISK, by all means, sell the parts straight on the market.
In fact this might make our task easier - as those buying up parts, might want to add to the BIG pool regardless (by submitting a large portion of parts they naturally gets a larger part of whichever reward we might recieve). 'Bulk' contributors (those buying up parts) to the BIG pool obviously makes our administrative burden less.
Do what *you* feel is best for you.
The 'gamble' atm is, that noone knows how much the empires will be paying for the parts - not to mention what any reward (which only the BIGgest contributors will have a shot at) will be worth. BIG Lottery

Any chance you could consider making four independent pools, one for each faction?
This would make it possible to "donate" the body parts to a special faction. As it is now it might very well be that a Minmatar ends up helping the Amarr, or a Caldari the Gallente.
I understand four independent pools would be more complex to handle, but I'm quite sure BIG could handle it.
You would just have to decide what to do if a faction pool ends up with less than a thousand parts, etc.
I guess it's possible for others to start such pools, but BIG has a good reputation and are known to be trustworthy. I would never feel confident with a stranger handling my body parts. -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- Lisa: Alright Nelson, what kind of journalism skills do you have? Edited by: TornSoul on 18/05/2004 13:31:57 As luck will have it, this is excactly how it will be according to the latest news (devblog) Except in the case of Epidermis Sliver.
Each empire are 'specializing' in each a body part and wont buy the others (except the Epidermis Sliver which they'll all buy).
So if youre not contributing with Epidermis Sliver's - Theres no need for a 'vote', or a concern about supporting an empire you do not wish to support
As Epidermis Sliver's apparently are the most common ones (50% of all body parts) - odd's are that we will be able to supply all the empires based on the wishes of the contributors.
One important thing to keep in mind is : Although the empires will only buy in bulks, this does not mean they wont buy 1.234 units - So we should not have any problems with 'fractional' parts.
All in all a very good turn of events.

Some questions about your otherwise great initiative:
- How will you distribute the reward if it turns out to be some privilege for the corporation that needs to be actively exploited (say, exclusive trade options with Jovians) or something else that simply cannot be sold? Will BIG make use of it and share the yields to all donators for all eternity?
- Some parts are much more rare than others. What incentive is there for owners of cerebral slices to donate them if they're treated the same way as epidermis slivers if it's quite certain market prices will be a lot higher for brains than skin?
- So you will sell body parts to each of the races, either depending on their nature (if it's not an epidermis sliver) or on the donators vote. Will you still sell the whole bunch of epidermis to the race with the most donations (does this include the non-epidermis 'votes'?) or do you plan to now create four pools, one for each race?
- If it is the latter, I see some problems. Won't the Minmatar be the certain winner in this case? (Won't they anyway, since their specific parts are so much more common than any of the others'?) What will you do with the unspecified epidermis donations? And won't this effectively lessen chances of BIG accumulating the largest single donation by splitting the epidermis pieces into 4 approximately equal lots?
- I have bone splinter but being Amarr i really don't want to support Minamatar. What can I do?

Yes. Same as we are doing with The BIG Deal

Epidermis Sliver's are 'special', in the sense that any if the empires will buy these - This is where the 'voting part' comes in. If possible we'll have 4 pools of these, one for each empire (decided by the 'vote' you put in the escrow message) Each of the other pieces will only be bought by one empire. As such each is 'worth' the same with regards to getting a part of the Jovian reward. It also still remains to be seen what prices the empires are paying (I havent had a chance to check the marktes yet - to see if teh buy orders are already up). It might very well be that the ISK buy sum will be different for the different pieces - due to the difference in their availability - and thus you get more ISK for a more 'rare' part.

The minmatars beeing the winners or not - is not within our control - We havent made the distribution. Unspecified epidermis donations will be used to 'fill up' pools of epidermis that havent reached the 1000 mark (if that happens) Otherwise they will be distrubted according to the distribution of the other pieces. Ie. if we get twice as many liver's as blood's - we'll put twice as many epidermis into the 'liver pool' as in the 'blood pool' (gastly terminology this )
And no I dont see this decreasing the chance of BIG getting the Jovian price - You incorrectly assume it has to be a 'single' donation. The news text makes no mention of this.
Quote:
the Jovians will reward those pilots or corporations most prominent in the collection process,
So I'm assuming it will be the total sum of donations made. Especially in the light that the Jovians are seen as 'neutral' (ie. not favoring any of the empires). To them it's important getting as many pices as possible, so BIG contributing to all 4 empires would if anything bring us even more in favor with the Jovians (and theyll simply sum up the total BIG contribution) This is ofc all guesswork... But based on the info we have, I'd say it's pretty accurate.

If your a loyalist your only option is to trash it - As a bone splinter can *only* work in favor of the Minmatars. If you are more loyal to your own wallet though - You can add it to the BIG pool. The choice is yours.

Since it seems to be empire wide rewards.. As in the one empire that gets the most parts wins = all the people from that empire wins.. Then I dont see you "BIG" to be able to do this. ------------- Most tired of thing atm: - Mods on the forum saying: "Please use the bug report page to submit bugs, the forum is not the place to post them." and then closing a topic. |

As already mentioned earlier in this thread, there is actually 3 kinds of prizes.
1) The ISK you get by selling the pieces to the empires. 2) The prize the Jovians will bestow on the empire contributing the most. 3) The prize(s) the Jovians will give to the individuals/corps making the largest contributions.. BIG Lottery

Ive only been playing eve going on 2 months, but i have a couple questions. Where do you find stuff like these parts? I only get things by killing angels and the like, is this where you find the stuff or am i missing some other aspects of this game? I've only received trade items from running missions but I've never seen any kind of body parts anywhere. I'd love to know what I'm missing.

Now seriously considering the donation even if I hate those damn Minmatars. :)
Say, anybody here want to trade a bone splinter for a blood drop (after all, it's going to have the same value once you have donated to this initiative)? Nobody? Hmmm...

The only prize I at the top of my head can think of that we (BIG) would not be able to share (liquidate) would be a direct increase of char stats (mem, int etc).
And tbh... that would be kinda of a shoddy prize (IMO) (And thus I doubt that would be it)
Anything else (I atm can think of) can be turned in to ISK if needed.
Many others have started to organize collections similar to ours - with the disctintion that most are empire centric - thus cutting themself of from 3/4 of the parts. BIG on the other hand 'goes all the way' in order to ensure we (*together with* the contributors) becomes the single largest contributors of body parts (encompassing all 4 empires should increase those odds quite a bit) - and this increase our chance of becomming the reciepient of *the best* of the Jovian rewards (it's hinted that the Joves will pay out more than one)
The BIG offer is *a* offer. It's not the "be all, end all" of offers. Take your pick - Choose whichever offer you feel suits you best (based on RP, odds and whatnot).
We make you *an* offer - Like numerous others have started to do.
In the end - The choice is yours, and yours only. Shop around, find the offer you feel gives you the best (chance of a) 'payback'. And each has his/hers defination of a payback...
We (ofc ) believe our deal will give everyone contributing the best chance at the best prize from the Jovians, as we are not restricting ourself to just one empire.
The choice remain yours. BIG Lottery

Bah!
Get real, you aren't doing this to be a nice guy, Torn...there is always a hidden agenda, and yours is fairly clear.
You are hoping that thousands of players escrow their pieces to your corp, for free, in the hopes that BIG receives the reward.
You're not doing this to be a saint, or to truly help others...drop the act, you're wanting to personally gain from this scheme, which is ok...aside from the fact that you're trying to mask your true hopes and intentions in white robes.
And someone asked a question about letting all contributors join your corp for the time being, till the prize is awarded. Your answer?

Aeon, as TornSoul is too modest to point out, BIG corporation has actually EARNED the trust of the EVE community with their regular lottery and all around good behavior. Unlike you, some nameless shmuck that no one has ever heard of, they have actually garnered enough good-will to pull something like this off. So while you may have just as much "right" as BIG to make this offer, your point is trite and ill-informed when you consider the effort BIG has put into making a known and trusted name for themselves.

It's not possible to make unlimited run BPc's any longer. If you meant unlimted supply - Then yes, that would be a possibility.
But I sincerely doubt it will be a BPo - after the Miner II 'scandal'

This news item SCC delays Jovian body part trade seems to indicate that it will be possible to sell the Jove Parts on the market next Friday, but that isn't the deadline for the empires to hand over the parts to the Jovians though.
You can put up as many escrows in Fricoure 8-3 as you like, but we would appreciate it if you try and make as large escrows as possible to limit the bookkeeping on our part.

Edited by: Kayscha on 22/05/2004 13:32:57 I'm still wondering if that 'vote for your fav empire' will have any effect at all. After some quick calculations, Minamtars are still the ones who will win this thing. Consider this: - Assumption: Most players will have a certain affinity for the empire their main character's race corresponds to. Surely some will prefer another empire for one reason or another, but this should even itself out statistically. - Fact: according to a recent dev post, minmatar make up 21% of the entire EVE player population. - Fact: Bone splinters, the body part that is being bought exclusively by the Minamtar empire, make up 25 persent of the entire body part pool.
Given that my asssumption is correct and the demographics actually represent the relative popularity of the empires, the following seems very likely: - The Minmatars will receive 21% of the epidermis slivers, (10.5% of all body parts), given that different body parts have been distributed among all races evenly. - They will further receive all bone splinters (25% of the total), given that few people will throw away/keep theirs in spite or ignorance. This provides the Minamatar empire with a full 35.5% of all body parts. If calculated for the other races, they will accumulate 24.5 (Caldari), 21 (Amarr) and 18.5 (Gal) percent respectively. That's an 11% gap - even if all Amarr players would donate their epidermis slivers to Caldari for some reason, it wouldn't make a difference! So, unless someone finds a serious error in my thinking, I consider this a very predetermined outcome for a so-called 'player-run' event.
Edit: @TS: could you regularly update how many parts are in which pool?

From the latest news
Quote:
In order to facilitate participation from a larger number of individuals, the minimum order size for each part will be reduced from the previously-planned 1000 units to more manageable sums, corresponding to each partĘs relative rarity.
Seems the SCC has been thinking what you have been thinking as well - and has thus 'changed their mind' a bit, on how to do the buying.

Thanks for the update.
Looking at your page, though, I fear CCP's efforts to even out the score might not be enough - the Minmatars already have a lead of almost 20 parts, almost twice as much as the next contender. What might change things for the BIG collection, at least, are the non-assigned slivers. There are clearly more of them than I had anticipated. If these remain so numerous across the board, they might just close the gap. :)

Edited by: seoul on 23/05/2004 11:35:11 I am somewhat confused by this process.
BIG is effectively encouraging races to contribute parts on behalf of another race ?
ie I am Caldari, but i do not have liver bile or epidermis sliver, so if i contribute my piece i could poosibly be aiding the Gallente race ?
I understand that all that BIG can gain from this is the "possibility" of a corporation bonus, but this seems strange that they are asking citizens to gamble so much on a "possibility".
I prefer to see each Race collecting on behalf of their respective race and contributing as such.
As such i suggest Caldari Citizens visit "caldari state citizens" channel and listen to their suggestions. Their efforts so far can be viewed at www.caldari.tk
Another option would be for BIG to work in partnership with the races and contribute their pieces to the most prominent collectors from each race ?

I think you are not taking into account that BIG will get isk out of the sale whether or not they are the greatest contributor - after all, the empires will pay (and pay well, I suppose) for the pieces they receive. This will in turn be shared among all contributors. So unless you have a special interest in your race's empire winning (and thus will be holding on to your body part lest another race might gain an advantage from it), you're not likely to lose anything from letting BIG have you piece. If, of course, BIG turns out to be the largest single contributor, expect to get your share from the Jove bonus, as well. And since BIG is one of the most visible collectors out there and is further collecting all 5 parts, too, chances aren't bad that BIG will in fact win this race.

Well, some do, but others would consider that racist, have no love for the empire that rules their race or simply don't roleplay and thus don't care either way.
Myself, I do care for Amarr, but I'm not sure yet if I'm ready to reprocess my bone splinter for that (since nobody would trade it for their blood drop, would they, now?).

((IC)) True to our motto "Everywhere - Everything" we will try to accomodate each of the empires if possible.
We belive that the more body parts collected all together, regardless of which empire wishes to buy them, the better the chances will be of restoring the Jovian liaison Misu Banyia.
Petty racial squabbles will only hinder this process. Sometimes you have to put your racial background on the backburner for the sake of a greater goal.
At the same time, we wish to distribute any reward the Jovians migth bestow on us to all contributors - The more that benefits the better in our opinion.
((OOC)) Why gamble on only one horse? In this case it doesnt cost more to play on all the horses, and thus : Greater chance of getting the prize. We quadrouble our chances of becomming the BIGgest supplier by selling to all 4 empires (Something a caldari of all things should understand...) BIG has never limited itself. Nor will we this time. Damn!
I really should ave auctioned my part off, after all. 20k isk for an epidermis sliver when they were going for 2M before. And no reward at all for the corp that delivers the most. So even if I do donate now, what do I get out of it? 30k for my bone splinter and 1/750th of a cloaking module bpc. I don't suppose that'll be worth all that much, either. Considering the Jove bonus for the winning empire, I think I prefer just to keep my splinter in the hope that Minmatar won't win that and thus my chance as an Ammar increase to receive it instead.
I believe this sucks rather badly. This event was announced so loudly that I think everyone suspected something big (no, not BIG ;) ). No it turns out to be just peanuts. I feel somewhat let down, and I wouldn't be surprised if ppl like BIG that involvd themselves in this will feel the same. Good job, ccp :P

20k isk for an epidermis sliver
-- Don't make the mistalke of thinking that the Empire buy order is anything related to the Player sell price. Because the extra isk goes towards the ability to monolpolies production of rare cloaking technology which will make the manufactureres make a bucketload of isk. So the price of each part will be higher.
How much higher? Well I honestly predict that the old theory stands - those that paid a lot have no intention of selling for a huge loss.. and most of the parts still lie in the hands of those that paid millions (even if it means that reselling at the same price results in a stupendous cost for those wanting the print).
So how do you reacquire them? Either pay the millions of isk or not. Unreasonable for just a limited cloaking print? Maybe - but truth is getting a hold of some of the buy orders still still be difficult because:
a/ some of the parts have simply been destroyed b/ some of the parts have not even be noticed (accoutns running but not checked in weeks.. awaiting subscription end). c/ some of the parts were purchased for large amounts and buyer would rather not sell for a huge loss and just hold onto them d/ some of the parts will be held because of Oveurs statement that they will be used later.
Now really, how many aprts does that leave of people willing to part with them at a decent (small price) so that a limited few can make a bucketload of isk from manufacturing and selling rare tech? Knowing full well that because of the price of the tech they may not be able to buy it either for months to come most likely?
Lets see what happens ;) -----

I do belive that statement was with regards to the Fullerenes only, which are not needed in this present endavour.
I do find it a shame that the empires will only wait 2 more weeks though, hardly time for the 'Body parts' market to develop and 'mature'.
I would dearly have loved to see what 'equilibrium' prize the parts would have ended up at. Ie. the prize players would be willing to pay over what the empires will pay (becuase yes, the player prize will be higher) I just dont think 2 weeksis enough. Actually I am pretty sure he was talking about the jovian parts - the reason being that there was some discussion on the topic.. the thread became unstickied for some reason from the general forum but ill try find it.
However he stated that the issue with the parts was that different players had different expectations of what would happen to them, and there was no way for the devs to do many events with them at the same time. So he stated that keeping the parts in the hanger would be a 'sensible' thing to do (quote) because they would be once more in use in the future for those that do. There was no mention of fullerenes.. they simply dont factor into this event at all and have never come under discussion.
He also stated that he had no intention of revealing the end of the story - the option to keep parts and wait for an uncertain future for them once more was the players choice. With many parts already used, their value would be higher - or not.. all depending on the players. -----

Here it is: Oveur's quotes:
---- Oh, and the bodyparts will have further usage down the line, so it's also sensible to keep them in your hangar - for now ---- and
---- B) You have the choice of not participating, waiting to use your bodyparts for something else. People have different motivations for doing this, some just want their race to win. We can't possibly match all expectations and motivations, hence we do a series of events catering to different people - problem is, we can't do it all at the same time. ----
It is from this thread:
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=82928&page=2
and as highlighted in bold, he referred to them as 'bodyparts' and the fullerenes are not. -----

So, are you still planning on handing all unassigned slivers to the empire that has the most epidermis 'votes'? I have assembled a number of slivers in the meantime, but since I want to see them go to Amarr, yet I see no chance of the Amarr part of your collection ever reaching 1000. I think I need to abstain from this.
While I am glad that ccp changed the trend favouring Minmatar by bringing in a lot of Blood Rider-dropped slivers, I'm afraid this appears to have only strenghtened the Caldari outlook, since they are the most populous...

Just wondered how exactly BIG were planning to share the BPc between so many ppl? If they are planning on selling then everyone who put in their part will be getting very little back. After all the main reward was the increase in Jovian standing which may become very useful later. ( who knows maybe uber jove agents? ). Also if you dont have enought blood/bone/bile/cerebral to fill a batch will the people get their parts back? Since then they wont get any part of the reward but they cant donate to the other collections as it is too late, to help their race. Lastly do you offer refunds?
Respect to BIG for their efforts thou, the ETC knows how much hard work and the time and effort required to do this.
