Hi, this really isn't a whine thread, but I was reading through that thread about BOB's 20 Titans and began to think about possible solutions before it gets out of hand in the future.
Would a hard coded limit to Titans in an alliance work? Say something like you can only register a maximum of two Titans per alliance. You can still build them, but only 2 Titans may be piloted by a certain alliance at any time.
I know there are workarounds, but at least it would start on the right foot. Also, cap doesn't have to be 2.

The cost of getting another titan would just increase by the isk you need for another alliance.
Also, wrong forum.

New corp with titans wants to join alliance.
Can the corp not join? Do they have to give up the titan? Does the pilot have to leave?
Arbitrary ship caps is not EVE. Next thing, people will want a cap so that all fights have a 1:1 ship ratio. If you bring 55 BS, the enemy gets 55 BS too. Afterall...
It'd be terrible if war was unfair.

Something like
Titan #1 = What it costs to make one now Titan #2 = 5% more then Titan #1 Titan #3 = 5% more then Titan #2
etc etc etc

Then all they need is an alt corp to build them one by one by one, transfer them to the alliance (for free duh) and boom, no problem. Im willing to bet that most of the people have no clue what the minerals they mine go to, and they have no clue what happens... pets, the lot of them.

Yeah sorry I forgot to add that you could add some sort of a fee so say an alliance has 2 titans and a third one joins the alliance. It then charges you 5% of what titan #2 cost to build.

They probably should have tied Supercapitals to some sort of command point system. However at this time it would be difficult to introduce such a system.
As someone above said they'd just split off so you'd have something like
BOB-A BOB-B BOB-C BOB-D BOB-E etc
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts. |

I think the creation and maintaining of an alt allaince for each two titans is worth it. Excellent idea!!!
/sarcasim
Seriously if you consider that two titans, plus their fittings is going to be something like +200billion isk. Why not just have titan alt allainces.
I can see it now.....
1.) Band of Brothers Alliance +2titans 2.) Shrikes Mushroom Patch Alliance +2titans 3.) Molle BBQ Pit Alliance +2titans 4.) Waagaa's Karoke Kastle Alliance +2titans 5.) Nanowhiners United Alliance +2titans 6.) Beekeeping Alliance +2titans
I'll leave it at that, I am sure you get the point(plus i ran out of cool names after the 4th one. ) --

It's actually a very ridiculous idea, as Aria put it nicely, it's goes completely against what EvE is all about. If an alliance has the capabilities to field 200 titans, then so be it. Pulling some magical number out of the air to cap a certain type of ship is one of the most inane ideas I've ever heard on how to nerf a ship, if you want to call this idea a form of nerf.

Oh, this is a great idea....but I have one better! To ensure fairness, let's rule that all alliances are capped on the amount of ISK they have! Later, we can rule that everyone draws from a central pool of ISK.
After all, we wouldn't want things to be unfair, now, would we? --------

So you are all for people having the ability to instantly destroy any fleet of any ship size short of supercapitals by having 20 people press F1? Titans, as they are, are game-breaking. If you can't admit that then you've never tried to play with more than one hostile titan on grid. People with no experience relating to titans shouldn't criticise them. (Yes this is an alt)

Mine is even better! To ensure quality on these forums, let's rule that each person in the EVE community has to fulfill a certain quota of threads and/or replies showing signs of actual thought involved.

the solution is to change titans themselves, not to put artificial, easily-bypassed limits on numbers.

If you dont like it, stay in empire. People worked HARD to spit out these Titans, some which were built under fire during the war, so its no easy feat.
People are cathing up anyway, RA has 8 known of, and MM has 5 etc etc.
This is a whine thread, no other way to read it.

Edited by: PirceHat on 13/07/2008 08:08:30 Titan doomsdays may effectively end 0.0 sub super-capital combat in six months time. Now, two important numbers: 1,500,000/70,000 = 21.42 2,500,000/70,000 = 35
What are so important about those numbers? Well most common dreadnaught setups have between 1.5 and 1.7 million effective hp. An EHP setup for a dread maxes out around 2.5million effective hp on best resistance. A titan will have a minimum of 5million EHP, with upwards of 10million being achievable (0_o). What that means in several of the ômegaö alliances (specifically bobÆs MAX fleet) are approaching the ability to reliably doomsday and enemy capital fleet. If the number of titans in bob continues to grow at the same rate it currently is in six months time they will be able to reliably alpha strike all no super capitals in an opposing fleet.
Support would be effectively nullified as a few ôreserveö doomsdays could wipe out any tackling and the titans could subsequently warp off of grid. Not to mention that buy the time the lag cleared from 22 simultaneous DDÆs they could just cyno out, and only two types of ship in the entire gang could hold them (interdictors and heavy dictors).
Doomsday need fixed, sooner rather than later.

Only thing that could have a look-at IMO is Multiple DDs on the same grid.

The only thing that needs to be done to fix titans (It's not even titans that's the problem, it's multiple titans doomsdaying a fleet at the same time) is to limit the amount of dooomsdaying that can happen on one grid - because of damage to space and whatnot.
That's the most simple and effective solution to the problem - it keeps titans the same, but gets rid of the "23 titan theory" of instapopping carriers.

I saw this is an endgaem when alle aims for Titans.
I prospose maek it that alliance built +1 estra titanb when alle alliance habe same titan cuont.
Soemthing leik tehre is 3 allinace in game and all 3 must habe same titan cuont then someoen esle can maek +1 estra Titan.

This would be a good solution, some ***gy roleplaying reason could be added like "magnetic feilds in this area of space are not sufficiently recovered from the last doomsday device that was fired"

titans are overpowered and BoB did cheat to get the isk to get their titans, they are probably still cheating now. titan cap sounds good tbh.

Remove the DD from the game and replace it with some other useful combat ability for the Titan. Preferably a balanced one that doesn't kill the game in this way. Problem solved.

Seems a bit evil to do this when people have worked for years to get Titans just for their doomsday ability.

That depends on what it is replaced with. You can have something that is useful and powerful without being game-breaking. Also, if it was an ability that makes having more than one or two Titans in the fleet meaningless (like say vastly better gang bonuses than the great bonuses they allready give), would be pretty nice. Then large numbers of Titans wouldn't be a problem.

this may sound impressive on paper, but I doubt if anyone will actually try it because it has a significant risk of backfiring with the immense lag caused by being hit with a dd. all those titans would be sitting there for 10-45 minutes, damaged and unable to see or do anything, while anything arriving after the dd spam can get around fine.
last time I got dded, there were a lot of guys in dd-tanked bs that survived it but were killed during the subsequent lag by a support gang that they never saw.

How about maintainance costs for supercaps? In both iskies and materials (crew pay and hardware)? If it was high enough, it could provide a nice soft cap for these ships. I mean, the USA don't have 20 supercarriers either, and I am fariyl sure that is not because they couldn't build them but because they couldn't maintain them...

Or possibly introduce a dedicated Titan destruction ship or platform of some sort, like the anti-tank guns of second world war.
Might even be so that it requires of few of those ships aligned towards the Titan in some sort of grid formation, together powering a anti-titan beam, think deathstar ray style.
All in all, limit the number of doomsdays allowable per grid or introduce some paper, rock, scissors element into the Titan and anti-Titan warfare.
