Just lost a ship for the first time (a thorax) and the reason hasn't been mentioned anywhere in this thread - low sec moons. NEVER warp to a moon in 0.4 or under sec space because they are crawling with POSs (player owned stations) which will more often than not blow you out of the sky without a minutes warning. I was attacked by a pirate near a gate in a 0.3 sec system and warped to the closest thing to where i was pointing (so that my ship would go to warp quicker) little did i know that i was about to land right next to about 20 player owned turrets with warp jamming abilities! My only consolation was that they don't pod kill players, so at least i got away with my life (and implants). |

Originally by: Ilor Prophet One important addendum to my above posts - do NOT warp to moons in 0.0 space. Moons are where player-owned stations are constructed. And POS's have sentry guns. And sentry guns will kill you right quick.

Originally by: Oosha When mining (no matter where) lock onto a few asteroids and keep 1 or 2 of your locks empty. Then goto the scanner settings and check off [asteroids].
That way, any ratspawn will appear as a sitting duck on your scanner. Lock on the closest, and when in range of your guns, let them have it. Another way is letting them target you and hit you 1st, then launch your drones, they will automaticly lock on the rats when they come in range and fly off to have fun.
Great point Oosha I found thatif you create custom settings then 'Save As' you can quickly recall those after locking an asteroid etc.. I have several profiles saved and set them accordingly to space security, activity or missions.

Originally by: Mesasone About AFK mining and traveling... a tip I was given that works REALLY well is to run EVE in windowed mode, and then just surf the web or what have you. That what you're not bored to death, and can easily respond to threats.
just a warning about this quote is that if you go inot windows mode by some reason your FPS slows down which could hinder you. Feh! You all burn the same! |

Not even CONCORD protected space is completely without risks. I was on autopilot the other day on a 10 jump totally secure space run, when I was attacked at the Jita gate in Mauvolinen (I'm spelling that totally wrong...). Looks like a bunch of characters all about the same age figured that hosing indy's and loosing their Kestrels was worth the trouble. (I'm guessing on the Kestrel part.) Without the shield hardeners and shield booster I had fitted, I probably would have been destroyed from the first couple salvos. I think each ship only got one salvo off each (4 missiles) before being vaporized by the turrets. There were 5 players IIRC. Not sure if they got anyone else, but it woke me up from paying bills on the other computer! "WTF? that sounds like I'm being targeted..." I was scrambling to get the shield booster and afterburners engaged that I didn't even check to see what kind of damage was being done or take note of who it was. I had to look int the logs to see who to set standings towards.
Same thing could happen to an AFK miner, if the attacker was willing to lose the security and a throw-away ship.

Here's one - (not sure if it has been said)
Always, ALWAYS, always check the items in station before you jump in case you left something by mistake. Especially after having a beer or 2 (or 3, 4, 5 whatever)

Edited by: Tadita on 22/11/2006 17:16:27 A hint I haven't seen for newbies, when warping into a bunch of npc rats. You can fire up afterburner and get some distance before targeting them. Those few seconds of acceleration can make the difference on a rats closing rate.

I found it hard to hold back a chuckle when reading this mate! Sounds like the sort of luck I would have. I have one query-Last night I was challenged to a duel while mining in a secure (low sec) AB, the guy was really pressing me for a fight(wannabe pirate trying to get his sec rating down i think)I said no as i wasn't really equipped. Can you have a 'duel' without effecting your Security rating? Or do you think he was just picking on a noob? Ps-thanks for all the tips

Post Revelations tip- Do not 0-warp into an asteroid belt. Although I never warped close to belts to begin with, I usually warp to within 50k of the belt and then take up a position on the edges of the belt for mining with my front facing an object to warp to.
I was tracked down by a pirate last night. I made a clean get-away, and he persued me. After getting to a nearby planet I double backed and before I realized what I did, I had 0-warped into an asteroid belt he thought I had gone to, and I was now sitting right next to him and the swarm of NPC pirates that were all around me.
I still managed to get away, but I learned that 0-warp can be your enemy as well as your friend if your not careful. |

P.S the safest cheapest and most efficient way I have found to explore EVE is in a shuttle and make bookmarks. PKers get nothing for blowing up your shuttle (except bad rep) and you lose nothing. Make sure to leave your clone where you want to return to:) saves a long trip home!
Now thats cool to know, I had been woundering about doing just that when I first got my shuttle

I can't figure out how to set up the auto-scanner. Can you point me to instructions on that? Thanks!

i'm not too sure, but i don't think the auto-scanner exists in the game anymore. remember that this topic is from 2 years ago

Nahh, not really wrong. I've read it too and theres still a lotta good stuff;
Bookmarking an exit route and having it up on the screen ready to "book" Dropping a bookmark while warping so you can jump to empty space in an emergency. Pointing your nose to the place you want to warp in case you get attacked. Using a shuttle to explore space. Staying clear of large celestial objects so their gravirty well doesn't hinder your getaway. Look a gift horse in the mouth, he might be poison... Don't trust your mother and stay away from <.04 sec until your experienced.
It's like my dear departed father used to say, "There's only two people in the world I trust, you and me. And I'm not so sure about you..."
Good luck Grasshopper...

If you were refering to the nerf about targeting range and scan resolution. It's so people cannot have risk-free PVP.
If you are refering to the fact Heavy Interdictors can scramble you irregardless of how many stabs you are using, yeah that's a bad idea. Duncan Bannatyne

"regardless" or "irrespective". "irregardless" is not a word, it's a double negative and i want to hurt people who say it :))
