You never know who is watching. I spent my time in eve helping when I could. Now that I've sold my characters and liquided my assets, Im wandering eve giving stuff to those whose helpfulness or generosity catch my attention. I have a little over 5 billion isk left to distribute. EVE has given me so much and after 3 years of playing I've had my fun and done everything I've wanted. I want to thank Ushra'Khan for the RP experience (you knew me as somebody else), Suddenly Ninjas for being so fantastic and it was awesome being there on the ground floor when this revolutionary core made salvaging not just viable but fun and famous!
See you out there, I hope I can help,

Someone posted a thread awhile back about how they'd lost a ship missioning or some shit and now had to grind for another 2 weeks to get it back, and for some strange reason I felt compelled to send'em some isk
felt good, even though it was a measly 15mil, still saved a noob some grinding (dosent change the fact I've ****ed off way more people than I helped tho )

Edited by: Verlyn on 24/07/2008 04:13:14 I've been ratting for a corp that doesn't go under 45% tax and sometimes goes to 100%, and it's been like this for 2 weeks now. The ships I use aren't even mine, they're corp insured. It somehow feels better to be working under 100% tax, knowing you own absolutely nothing and giving all your time for a community. If I was to leave the corp, they would ask for all the ships and equipment back. It feels great.

Edited by: Bai ZongTong on 24/07/2008 04:47:17 The other day I was baiting in a lowsec belt with a friend.
Saw a neut from a noob corp warp in and stayed in the belt for a good few minutes. We decided that he might be a bait so I started shooting.
Turns out he is actually new to the game... and had no idea what he was doing. Gave him 1M (much more than what he lost), and told him its a dangerous place to be in and be careful.
Ever since, whenever I see a guy from a noob corp jump into this lowsec system, I convo them and warn them about this place being dangerous...
EVE is a rough place. and many of us like it the rough way.
But keeping noobs out of the game is not an option.
We need him to be mature so we can have good fights in the future~ =D --- Want some YARRHHHS? The Revolutionary Guard Pirate Corp Looking for Members Uncensored KB |

I sometimes help newbs out in highsec with missions and such, or advice. Most of the time, I make sure to mention that not everyone will be helpful if they are a stranger, which seems to be the best advice I can give.
For me, i do it because it makes me feel good, and because even though EVE can kick your ass hard sometimes, it helps to know that you can find people who are not inclined to pod you.

Every so often I get the niceness bug and try to lend a hand to newbies and others. Way I see it is that when I first started I had a ton of questions I was asking people in newbie corp chat and the help channels, so it's only fair to the community that I play the other side now that I have the answers.
I've also hit up the newbie systems a few times (getting items I purchased or just really bored) and donated items to people who needed them. Recently gave out a bunch of named mining equipment and other stuff to some new guy who was all in to it and having fun but was a bit lost in it all. Figured I'd be nice and give them a push in the right direction and also give me a place to offload stuff I had no use for instead of rake in about 400k :P It meant way more to him than it did to me (think I gave him a complete implant set, even though he couldn't use it).
Being nice is fun sometimes (it's also a cheap way out of presents for friends - gave a buddy 20mil for his birthday once haha).

Sarcastic? dirty isk? you kidding me. I worked hard for this isk. Yeah I've done what ever I wanted in eve as does everybody. I've worked against myself and my habit of giving stuff away. This was my life in EVE. If you doubt me talk to suddenly ninjas CEO and ask how we met in EVE. Even when I had very little isk I gave it away. I used to run a chat channel called helpful sam dedicated to helping anyone who needed help. Get over your self-rightous attitude. I spent my entire time in eve doing this and now I'm going supernova with my attitude and giving it all away now. If you care to ask around, I used to be Smantha Dering.

The second week I was in Eve, I was just in my new shiny Bantam and staring at a freaking riod while my MinerI was slooooowly cycling through. I was starting to get an idea of what kind of slog the first few months would be like before I couldn't even think of buying any of that fancy Tech2 stuff the forums talked about. A HAC drops down on top of me and wants to convo. I figure I'm dead (though it was highsec, I still hadn't figured out all the rules). The HAC pilot was a Russian and he convo'ed me. Chatted a few minutes in rough english, gave me 30k and disappeared into the night. I used it to buy some half decent mining lasers and some skill books.
That 30k isk really was the difference between subscribing or going with HelloKitty (or someother game). Being a little nice to the noobs can go far. I still destroy their ships when they come into range - but I buy them a new kessie and give them some instructions on outfitting it.
All becuse of that mysterious stranger.

I have some Cyno alts and it is always fun to read the chats in these newbie corps. Reminds me the early days and how hard it was to get the first million. On a regular base I give away a few million to new starters in this game. Always feels good as for them 5 million is a lot of money and it is really helping them.
The opinions expressed herein are not necessarily those of my corps, not necessarily mine, and probably not necessary.

Sometimes I hang around starter systems targeting random noobs. When they get CONCORDED for firing on me I explain some of the game mechanics and give them a few million ISK.
I've recruited a few for my old corp this way and they turned out pretty good.

Yarrr, I'm a pirate, yeah, but I still give ISK, mods, and even ships to noobs frequently, and help with advice where I can. To many of us, 10M ISK is like lunch money; to new players, it can seem a fortune. As someone alluded to in an earlier post, a little love can go a long way to make the game special for newcomers. (Especially right after you blow them up in low sec, LOL!) Besides, I have gotten many gifts from my friends and corpmates in game. Only seems right to pay it forward. Good on ya, Griff...and nice chatting with you in Dodixie local.

Great post. I'm just barely 30 days or so into my time in New Eden and I've already had plenty of charitable help from older players. One player on a forum I frequent (though we didn't know one another at all) just out and gave me a few million ISK. And then there was the pirate who gate-camped me in my fully decked out new ship and when I talked with him about it, he sent me about 20 times what the damn thing was worth. And I've had a stranger or two fleet up with me to help me complete a few missions I was having a hard time with.
So yes, help. It's nice to do and gives me warm fuzzies. I'll return the favors. Pay it forward and all.

I love people like you. I played this game quite a while back, as a different toon and regularly used to sit in the help channel dispensing what advice I felt I was educated enough to give and providing noobs not only with isk, but also some sound advice on what to spend their isk on. Some people called me stupid for handing out billions of hard earned isk to strangers but I didnt care.
Now, almost two years later I have returned to the game I love. Id been back for a few weeks and having serious trouble re-aqauinting myself with all the "rules" and thus not making much isk (im a carebear). After chatting away with a few people in the EVE Radio channel, a very kind guy gave me a very substantial amount of isk to outfit myself and get back into the swing of things. Another kind person bought me my first new BS, a Typhoon, which I have since upgraded to a Maelstrom with alot of hard work.
Im still struggling to make isk, but I would not be where I am now without that help. I am convinced that if you do something nice for someone, eventually you will find yourself on the recieving end soon enough. I congratulate you for your efforts, this game and indeed the world, needs more people like you. 07

"Be good and help out sometimes" Hey, that's what i always think too :) Sometimes it seems like everybody only wish to annihilate others, so i sometime think to not be normal ;P So many times i've run out of money, my wallet is always low, 'couse i love to help friends and anyone that need help in any way, so i don't care about the fact that i cannot afford to buy/fly/use what i'd wish, 'couse i know that i made someone happy, and when someone say "thank you" and smile, well, it is the best think that i could see.
Well... nice to discover such a nice person like you and good luck in your search ;)

I think it's a wonderful idea.
Not too long ago, I was out and about setting up a new base of operations in Caldari space.
In local, a fellow was asking for help with a mission - and being ignored.
I sent him a message saying I'd be glad to lend him a hand.
Here's the poor fellow, still in a rookie ship, blasting away at an L1 named character and having a terrible time. I went in and tanked for him, letting him do most of the killing and finished off the real tough ones for him. Assault ships are a bit overkill in L1 missions.
I let him grab the loot and salvaged the wrecks, splitting the salvage with him and then invited him onto an L1 I was running (building up standing dontcha know).
He went on his way with some advice and some ISK that he full well helped earn. I may never see him again, but maybe, just maybe, I made his first few days in EVE a little bit better. That's reward enough for me.
After all - I play Gallente for a reason!
So give the new folks a hand and don't ride them for being a bit ignorant. Once upon a time, we all were.

About 6 years ago, I offered to let a very new player accompany me on a level 4 mission in my battleship. Things got out of hand and I was about to go down hard and I had a frigate scrambling me (my heavies were too far off to get to it in time), and I told the new guy to bug out to avoid getting wasted as soon as the NPCs blew me up.
Instead, he stayed and at the very last second took out the single frigate scrambling me, allowing me to warp out at 13% structure. I like to think that just once Karma smiled upon me. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

sometimes, when we are camping gates and some noob comes threw, completely unaware of what hes doing, and he gets popped i often convo him and talk to him a bit. sometimes i give them isk to cover what they lost (when i can/have isk to do so)
last one i did this to was bunny guts. was just trying to get to 0.0 to mine, and we popped and podded her/him. so i added that person to my addy book and a day later he/she logged on. after talking to him/her and figuring that hes not an alt i decided to give him some isk to cover his loss and get him started.
ive done this too many times to count, and kick myself at times.
another guy i did this to, we killed his maelstrom that had artillery/beams and i felt SOOO bad, and talking to him and hearing about how him and his wife play (he travels?) to spend time together i kinda melted and gave the dude some 250m, now this dude is RICH. and i have 2mil in me wallet lol.

It's nice to see someone doing this. I'm not totally new, but if it hadn't been for some really decent sorts giving me advice when I first started (and after I finished the tutorials and was asking.. now what?) I probably would not have gone down the path I have in this game.

Originally by: J Kunjeh Great post.
Pay it forward and all.
now that you cant gank ppl in fleets its possible to get good help.

GL in the future and yes, helping out is a nice thing. It can often involve time, not just dumping ISK in their lap. Helping a noob with a mission or just fleeting them while you pull aggro, then let them loot and slavage. 3 hrs of game time can really give a low level player an insight and a goal. |

You'll be back. Even if you have to get everyone in your family hooked on games to get more playing time yourself, you will be back
Good luck in wherever your journeys lead you. You had fun in EVE, so you won the game . |

Help is really great! Remembering about two and half years ago, when everything in eve seemed so confusing and out of order, those helps/advices/isk's I received...
Now days, as a experienced pilot, I start to help other people out. Sometimes I would just spend an entire day in newbie system and help out people...What I found out is--most new players need advice and answers to questions more than isk. isk can definitely help you out a while, but advices stays with you forever.
But there are also times I get bored and go hi-sec ganking those mining barges...
Just remember, it is up to us the oldie's to make the new players know what EVE is like. Who knows, maybe you help out one newbie and later in game they help out 100 newbies.

Originally by: Griff Philips I have a little over 5 billion isk left to distribute. EVE has given me so much and after 3 years of playing I've had my fun and done everything I've wanted.
I own a Trinity Ships Gallery. 1700 pictures, mostly taken by me selected one by one in a folder with 65 Gigabytes of EVE screenshots, and about 10k visitors monthly, yet never got a single penny/donation for it
If you still got any ISK to donate, I'll use the money for updating the site with new, better stuff. There are lots of ships that I had to lose millions to take screenshots of in heated wars, or had to afford because I couldn't find anywhere.
The site is http://glowfalls.com/eve_ships/
At any rate, thank you for the post. Yea, for real. EVE needs less drama, and more people like you. Peace, mate.

Nice post, and nice sentiment. The EVE community is the poorer when such people quit, and we can only hope that CCP tempt you back at some later date.
Now you'll forgive me if I go blow something up to balance out being so nice and pleasant on an internet forum ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |

heh, soon after i started a friend gave me a couple mill to get started with, i took that and ran with it. about 6 months into the game a player by the name of Asma Bane quit and ended up handing over about 100mill to me. said it didnt matter to her in the slightest anymore and that no one would remember her name in 6 months anyway. my current private fleet flagship has been named Asma`s Gift ever since. if she were to ever come back i would gladly return the isk. in between i hand out isk to new players every now and again, certainly more then i have ever recieved, with the simple request, that when you can, pass it along to someone else. nothing else required, when i have the time to spend at it, i am more then glad to chat with someone for a couple hours and clue them in on some of the more obscure aspects of the game. just as an example my bio still holds the answers to the top 4-5 frequently asked questions from a ways back, and oddly enough they are still applicable to the game in its current incarnation :) |
