A slow day at work made me put together a little test for those inclined to answer these things. It's not meant to be taken 100% seriously, but it could still pretty effectively put you into a cathegory as determined by me.
All the results are accompanied by images corresponding to signature rules on these forums. All except one. For some reason that result has the WoW logo for an image. I can't seem to change it. It has nothing to do with the result at all. Honest.
Anyway:
The EvE Personality Test.
Hope you enjoy.

Quote: Eve is a PvP game. The PvE parts of the game are there to drive the economy in order to produce more PvP. Multiplayer is key, and even though solo-play can be fun, the game should be balanced as a multiplayer game. High-sec is as much of a warzone as low- and nul-sec. It's just a matter of finding ways to get at the people living there. You usually play with other people, because when the going gets tough, the tough get some backup.
I'm a gunslinger.
And the test lacked options with an economical viewpoint. I found myself not having any really suitable option.

That's pretty fitting really, because I've called myself a gunslinger for being the only person in my corp that has gunnery trained instead of ravens. Just kidding guys, if you're reading this.

Gunslinger is sort of the mid-way cathegory. It's a bit more on the pvp side, while Indy with teeth is a bit more to the indy side of things. Other options are more extreme, and they require less than main stream views on certain things.

Props for getting together something as thorough and honed as this for the reson of "being bored". ofcourse nothing's ever perfect and the Eve playerbase is never late to point that out, but still, I think beig able to pull something like this off takes quite a trained eye in situational awareness.

You play EvE as a single player game, and if anyone dares to interfere with you, that person is obviously some kind of psycho in real life. As far as you're concerned, CCP should spend all their development time on missions and PvE activities. PvP should be removed from the game, or at least confined in clearly labelled areas where noone has to go if they don't want to.

Naturally, gunslinger. Fun test.
I'd just point out a few things:
The "CCP has decided to nerf the so called nano-fits, and recently put out a dev blog outlining various ways of how to accomplish this. What are your opinions of this?" question has a set of fully biased answers (there's no middle ground).
Personally, I think while nerfing nanos wasn't strictly neccesary, the overall speed changes open up other interesting opportunities.

Very fun quiz, although answers about Ambulation betray your opinion of it! The answer I would have picked if it was available would be that I think it'll be useful in attracting more people to the game, and will force CCP to further improve graphics in space as they'd look shoddy in comparison.

I think the 'Industrialist with teeth' is actually ticking off some of the PvE mission runners and part-time PvPers. Heheheh. Just because it has the word 'industrialist' in it, doesn't mean you have to have trade and mining skills.
It just means your one step up from a bleeding heart carebear and one step below a gunslinging pvper. About time there was a distinction between what makes a 'carebear' and what makes a contributing Empire supporter.

Eve is just a game. People tend to get really worked up about it, and this is highly amusing. The best moments of Eve is when someone throws a hissy fit after you pwned them when they didn't expect it. You often use the "it's a PvP game-line", but what you really mean by that is that the game is supposed to be exploited and won. No trick is beneath you as long as it lets you get a laugh at the expense of someone else. Everything is valid until CCP says it's not. ----------------------------------------------------------- I did the test two times. First was an Honorable theif. Second was a griefer.
Both go well with me

Hehe: Griefer. Which is funny because I'm really a High-Sec Industrialist, I just think that griefing is funny and part of the game, and while high sec ganking has gotten a little overboard, it should always be allowed. I always find pleasure in reading noobs complaining about that some lowsec pirate wasted their destroyer which took a week to earn.

LOL!!
EvE, while not designed specifically as a PvE game, does a good job of it anyway. You enjoy being a space captain tasked with extracting ore from floating monstrous asteroids, or work for the local government, shooting pirates that have infested your home system (not players, of course). You don't really like PvP, so you stay away from it if you are able, but you realise that kids will do what kids want, so as long as they stay in low- or nul-sec, you accept it.

Yep, that's what I got as well. And I suspect for the same reason. I don't do industry, but the test is about attitude, not action. If it was based on what I do, not what I think, it'd be a pretty solid definition of the gunslinger result, really.

methinks your test needs some recalibration. especially with the nano question. because i think nano's are fine, and everyone else is failing to use their head to kill them.
ANYWAY, i am a miner/industrialist. i have engaged in PvP twice over the time ive played, and lost both times.

Edited by: Devaira on 27/07/2008 03:33:28 You guys are confusing this EVE PERSONALITY test with "what's your EVE PROFESSION" test. If it says griefer that doesn't mean you have to be a pvper and if it says industrialist it doesn't mean you carebear all day long.
For example my boyfriend and I engage in same activity in EVE, but we scored differently. And when we play EVE together I can definitely see how his personality result shows in his actions, and how I play differently, even though we engage in same activity.
Same profession - but each of us has own take on it. This test is about your individual take, not the specifics of what you do.

Hopefully they'll have fun too, and the situation will let them learn a thing or two. You gladly help out new players, and you don't hold a grudge. Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances, and you don't whine about stuff you can't change anyway.
Seems pretty accurate; i am more focused on marketing and trade as a means for profit which does involve a good deal of trying out wit other players.

To win Eve you have to get on the winning team. This means training for the best ships, the best guns and fly with people who do the same. Eve is designed as a game where certain pieces are better than others. Exactly what is better might change from time to time, so the trick is to find it and abuse the hell out of it. A game is only fun when you're winning, so you do everything in your power to never lose. á

There is certainly some truth it it but I find it weird I got that result when I said things like I thought BACONs use should be banned outright and local shouldn't be the ultimate intel tool it currently is.
I imagine 99% of it is to do with when it asked me what the best race was, and I said minmatar cause it obviously is.

Unfortunately the site doesn't allow me to do that. I will however rework the test somewhat as per the critique given here. I'll add a few more cathegories as well, as there are more than 8 personalities in Eve.

Industrialist with teeth You enjoy Eve's economic model and you find that the greatest challenge of the game lies in mastering the market. System security status is a matter of profit/no profit for you, and you always factor in the possibility/probability of PvP in your estimates. To you, Eve isn't a PvP or a PvE game. It's a simulation of capitalizm in its purest form, and a place where the savvy wins the day.

The questions for BACON and Ravens were a bit too specialized.. what if you've never flown a Raven, and couldn't care less about BACON? There was no option saying 'if they wanna use BACON, that's their choice' or 'the best way to fit a raven is to fit it in a recycle bin and unpack the domi'.
Otherwise, good stuff! I got 'Industrialist with teeth', which is sort-of true-ish.

Industrialist with teeth.
You enjoy Eve's economic model and you find that the greatest challenge of the game lies in mastering the market. System security status is a matter of profit/no profit for you, and you always factor in the possibility/probability of PvP in your estimates. To you, Eve isn't a PvP or a PvE game. It's a simulation of capitalizm in its purest form, and a place where the savvy wins the day.

I'm an industrialist with teeth. For kicks, I went through again and submitted the answer I found to be most stupid/annoying, and found that those answers made someone a bleeding heart carebear. Odd, given that I'm mostly a bear myself, but the really whiny ones genuinely are that annoying, so maybe it's unsurprising. ------------------ Fix the forums! |

But all around, EvE is not politically correct. You can be racist, a f*ggot, a rapist and murder, a drug user/dealer, a slave trader, a corporate thief, a spy, a womanizer, a user of prostitutes or even a prostitute yourself.
I heard there was a big heated debate over one of the newer chronicles having some violence in it. Something about people getting up in arms on the forums. With all the violence and wickedness in the game itself, what in your right mind would make you think it would be different on the forums, where the players who enjoy the game hangout?

Quote: Eve as a game is supposed to be fun. You have your fun when you get to take stuff from other people by out-witting them. Hopefully they'll have fun too, and the situation will let them learn a thing or two. You gladly help out new players, and you don't hold a grudge. Balance is important, but you will always adapt to changing circumstances, and you don't whine about stuff you can't change anyway.

I did miss some answers though. In my opinion, the main focus for CCP ATM should be on reducing blobbing. I feel that although scams are a valid form of gameplay, they are overused ATM (trade and WTB contracts should include for the most part valid offers with a few scams for the unwary). And while i certainly respect piracy as a valid form of gameplay, the only way it will be viable is if the game can persuade (trough forcing you will only bleed the game dead as non pirates would just leave) people to play prey. It's biggest problem is balancing the rewards of piracy against allowing players to avoid being defeated.

I got Industrialist With Teeth, which is probably appropriate. I was confused by a few of the questions- the Raven one in particular. The biggest ship I can fly is a Gallente BC, and that not terribly well. I've never flow Caldari before and have no idea how to fit one so I guessed- I think I said cruise/BCS w/ECM or something. Probably a complete crap setup, but I don't feel bad about it, I specialize in small Gallente ships.
But why would anyone put a cloak+WCS on a battleship? That really made me blink.

Eve is a PvP game.

Having played around a bit with the answers to see what other options there were, i think PvE afficionado would fit me better than industrialist with teeth. That would at least suggest agressive trading. While i have enough understanding of PvP mechanics to take some precautions when i go carebearing, i try to avoid PvP whenever possible. ATM i am indeed interracting mostly with rocks and NPC's, only pausing ocasionally to dump my loot on the market. Maybe that will change later but for now that is how i have my fun in EVE. |

Griefer
