Edited by: InnerDrive on 31/07/2008 18:35:14 Edited by: InnerDrive on 31/07/2008 18:35:01 I think this nano nerf patch is really sad , so much training i did gone to waste.. Going to have to change training to drones and missiles only now i think after doing some testing on sisi, i found that basicly all closerange ships that use a mwd suck since they can be shut off.
I dont currently use many ships that dont use a mwd in pvp, in fact none.
Whats the best ship that does not need a mwd to kickass? Im talking like you can only fly one ship (non-capital), you have all skills at lvl 5 for all ships in the game. What ship will be overal the best ship to fly?
I was thinking a NightHawk. They dont use MWDs as far i know, they can tank like crazy and do a decent amount of damage against everything.
Ships so far: none valid

Ships have different roles yes, but there is allways a ship your better to be flying in than another. Its for example better to fly a interdictor than a T1 Frigate, but when your roaming around its not better to fly a battleship without speedmods.
I shoud ask, Whats the best (non capital) roaming ship post patch if you can fly all currently in the game?

Hell, if everyone was patient enough, there would be no "this or that" becuse you have the opportunity to fly everything.
To the OP, anything Minmatar just because they are based on speed. However this nanonerf will make Minmatar ships absolute garbage. When you have nanocruisers not going over 3km/s, it will be hard to roam when everyone and everything CAN and WILL hit you. __________ \(^.^)/ |

Do you honestly think every single person you will encounter on TQ will have a scrambler fitted? On SiSi people have them fitted because they are testing them - they will be no where near as practical on TQ.

see, here is the problem, you want the best ship for roaming pvp. i can list a few and will give you reasons why they are best. after reading this you will (hopfully) realise how dumb your question is
1. Arazu: they do the thing that started your whine 2. any intrdictor: in 0.0 all they need to do is drop a bubble n leave 3. rr domi: awsome tank, capless damage (drones) 4. falcon: ECM, nuff said 5. ares: great belt tackler that can stay outta 2ptmwdkilling scram range
now i fly all these ships other than the falcon, but i know how good ecm is, and i dont really think i will be changing any of my setups. bs will still have an mwd fit so it can burn outta bubbles that have no hostiles. if caught alone in a bubble camp it wuldnt have any chance 2 survive anyway. interdictors are still gonna be used 2 bubble up and die, getting out is an option. and ceptors will also keep using mwd. other ships can till use mwd and do alright, sure the vaga n stuff wont go as fast, but they will still move faster than other hacs. and yes, SHORT ranged 2pt scrams will shut your mwd down, but if you are withing that range in a vaga you aint doing it right, or so im told.
this nano nerf has been a long time comming and im looking forward to it. I have heard lots of people complaining that it takes the last paystyle that involves skill out the game. all it does it give you an oppertunity to prove just how good your skill at playing really is

All ships are still worth flying except for the Black Ops BS. They haven't been worth a damned since the day they were introduced. You can still use the MWD+Nano and OD but the only difference now is that they are no longer a crutch.

MWDs are still completely viable. People are just overreacting about the scram change. There is absolutely no difference between getting plastered webs now, than getting plastered with a scram tomorrow, except, webs have a much better range.

And for the OP, if you don't use any ships with an MWD already, why the bloody hell are you asking about ships that won't need a MWD to kick "azz" __________________________________________________

Seriously, kids like you need to get off the forums if you can't post something useful.
1. What you've read is not Patch notes, it's a Dev Blog. It can, and in all probability, will change before it goes live. They've only just begun testing the changes and will adjust them where needed.
2. MWD's will NOT be useless. Even if you cut them all down to 500% speed bonus, add stackign penalties to the related modules, skills, rigs, and implants, and. Add in the scrambler ability to deactivate a MWD at end of cycle, they still have Great usefulness. I can't see how anyone could say a single module giving you a 500% speed bonus is useless, even with penalties.
3. Skills that were trained for nano ships still have their purposes. Navigation 5 means every ship you fly is faster, even without an AB/MWD. All the secondary skills to MWD also affect AB's, like feul conservation and such, meaning you don't have to use them only for MWD. Hull upgrades (needed for nanofibers) means cargo expanders, inertia stabilizers, and a plethora of other useful modules.
I have been playing this game over 2 years, and have seen many ship come out, and many changes made. I cried when Nos was nerfed, but i adjusted. The HP buff meant that gank fits had a much harder time killing, but i adjusted. Just because someone is taking away your "I win because you can't do anything to hit me and i can run away if i need to" ship, doesn't mean it won't still be a useful ship.
Warp scramblers ( or disruptors, can't remember which they were thinking of changing) have a VERY small range, less than that of a webifier. If you were already using your nano ship outside web range, the deactivation of MWD won't really effect you.
A cut in speed modifier bonus will seriously alter the values of the faction/deadspace modules, but it will not make any of them useless. Large turrets still won't be able to hit you, and if they do, it will be at a considerable damage penalty.

Seriously - start using your brain rather than run to the forums to find out what the FOTM is. Maybe that way we'd start getting a bit more variety out there.

There is no proper answer to this, because you are going to need a team to roam. You are going to need 1) tackle, 2) dps, and 3) some sort of damage mitigation (ECM or logistics) and no ship can do all three at this point.
Vagabond is pretty nice, as even after the patch, it can still tackle and deliver some solid dps. Pair it with a falcon or scimitar, and you're golden. Scimitar can tackle itself it the vagabond has to warp out (e.g., if neuted).
Or, an inty, long range dps (cerb, zealot, that sort of thing), and a falcon.
Actually, just fly a falcon with friends.

LOL. No.
The Nighthawk doesn't normally fit a MWD because it doesn't have the PG. And it can do one of "decent damage" and "tank" at the same time. It can't do both.

This has been pretty much the only usefull reply so far answering my question..
Skills is no issue, i been playing for over 4 years now , i can fly pretty much anything.
- I woud fly the arazu but its sorda a shame that the damps were nerfed to pretty much useless. - A regular interdictor still will have the whole "shut down mwd issue", a lott of times i run with my mwd turned on it my dictor and pretty much everyone is out to get me, if i will go even slower after the patch i will die even more. - RR domi, domis are to slow for fast roaming, they take forever to get to warp, otherwise very nice ships for closerange combat - Falcon, everyones primary, i might pick up on flying this one regularly. - Ares.. MWD nerfed. I know you will say that people shoudent get within 9km off you but sometimes it happens in engagements at a gate, after the patch and it happens your dead with the complete shut down from MWD disable+webbing.
So maybe overal the falcon will be the best ship to fly if others in the gang perform the other roles required.

Invalid argument. The idea of a MWD on a ship like say- the thorax, is to CLOSE DISTANCE not to burn like a man on fire, and perma-run it in a fight. Hell if your using your MWD in a fight, you either suck or you have no clue. only ships that should even try are ceptors because they get sig radius bonuses. Fitting an MWD might be useful on all ships even after the patch, the REAL problem are the dork-faces who NANO their ships. Which can get cruisers exceeding 10 kps. Most ships I bet will still fit an AB or a MWD just so they can do things like close massive gaps, and insta-warp while aligned.

All my ships will still be fitting MWDs (rupture, hurricane, typhoon/tempest are ALL better off with a MWD), except the Jaguar which will now fit AB (I already fly AB rifters so no change there).
Fitting MWDs still gives you a ton of utility you would not have otherwise.

I'm fairly certain the Devs didn't envision that Minmitar would become exclusively speed-tanking as it's primary defense mechanism. (gasp!) -You may actually have to deal with getting hit occasionally. So in your Vaga-mobile you're now forced to fit DPS and exchange a Lrg T2 extender for some kind-of shield booster. Welcome to everyone else's pain point. Some (many) would argue that this is precisely the reason there's a nerf up for patch.
Anything Arty and anything Drone boat is +5 in my book. Look in that direction.

You're clueless. Vagabonds don't speed tank, they buffer tank. They orbit at no more than 600-700m/s max. They get hit PLENTY of times, and this is why they have to seek softer targets.

lets face it their is no overall good or better ship, if ccp intended for some one to fit a ship to be completely invulnerable dont you think their would be a mod that gives 100% resists by now that ony takes up one slot.
the nerf things to make the game more balanced whats the point in flying round at mach 2 and not being able to get in close to kill nothing as your ships is paper thin.
sure it works great against hulks and the odd ratter tanking 3 battle ship spawns thats webbed by the frigates lol ofcourse your going to kill him he cant tank 3 b/s and fight you at the same time while webbed and scrammed by ratts.
the idea is no one should be completely immune to being killed, i love battle ships and carriers but untill now killing nano cruisers was something to be desired and is now actually possible :)

Tbh, the MWD reactivation delay is the change which hurts the Vagabond the most, and preety much the only change which I consider quite broken. Yes, MWD reactivation if it was forcibly shut down, OK, but not if you're kiting someone. If someone doesn't have the skills for a Vaga, you can try with the simple Stabber - it's simply extremely difficult to keep range in a non-perma MWD ship as pulsing MWD is out of the question now.

Geddon/raven/abaddon tbh.
But there is no best ship.

To the OP, anything Minmatar just because they are based on speed. However this nanonerf will make Minmatar ships absolute garbage. When you have nanocruisers not going over 3km/s, it will be hard to roam when everyone and everything CAN and WILL hit you.
Yea, sucks when they rip that 'I Win' button out of your ship eh?

Going to have to change training to drones and missiles only now i think after doing some testing on sisi, i found that basicly all closerange ships that use a mwd suck since they can be shut off.
I dont currently use many ships, that dont use a mwd in pvp, in fact none.

What happened to missiles suck?
Except for some ships like the sac, missiles are the weapon of shield tanked ships, which suffer some PvP short commings.
The Drake is the #1 solo PvP ship? Like, on purpose?
Oh God, its going to be months of "Caldari online" whines.

Ships i think that i'd most like to fly now are probably:
the onyx as it has a mean tank, capless weapons and is useful in a fleet
The sentinal as it now (post patch) is the best dogfighting T2 frigate (imo)
The arazu has a much better chance of holding down targets now as scram at distance will stop peeps mwd toward or away you.
I fly two outa three so not all bad :D

The only case I think of where training has truly "gone to waste" was controlled bursts on a pure minmatar pilot. Nav skills are still useful no matter what you fly.

Sleipnir doesn't do nearly the DPS of a Megathron (in fact, it only slightly outdamages a fully gank Hurricane at all L5 skills), and it tanks for less then two minutes, and does lolwhat tank under any cap warfare since it's already capkilling itself with the XL booster.
Sleipnir is overrated by far and too expensive for what it does anyway.

Depends, really. It's definitely not going to get eaten - but it'll be a hard fight like it always used to be. At least for plated gank-fit Hurricanes. I'd actually prefer being in the Hurricane, but I do have nearly max skills (lack T2 hams, drone int V, med ac spec V) and implants (damage, rof, falloff) for the thing, and most pilots don't specialize in a BC all that much.

True in general, but for perma-sitting at a gate the Broadsword is nice, and there's one actually genuinely useful thing a Drake can do there, which is to fit two remote sensor boosters and give it some hot loving ;)

The raven is a tier 2...of course it's better. Phoon is an excellent ship for very little cash. Just as good as a domi, which is widely regarded as one of the better PVP BS.
I didn't mean LITERALLY megathron damage. But it can still pack a serious punch, certainly more than any other of the CSes. And just for the record...most tanks don't permarun, unless it's passive. Learn to turn on and off modules as you need them. You can't go into a battle expecting to just hit all the buttons, wait for the enemy to melt and loot his shit.
Glad we agree on the Rupture. Assuming you are not being sarcastic.
Rapier I am almost positive will be getting a web bonus when the web nerf goes live. If it does not, I admit that it is average at best.
Vaga is still freaking fast and with an AB could easily stay out of the range of short range ships (blasters and some lasers) and still fit a decent shield buffer. Yes, you will struggle against anything with missiles, but welcome to the world vulnerability. Gallente and Amarr have been doing just fine taking missiles for a long time. Pick your battles, you can't just jump on everything you see. When I'm in a Brutix, I don't go jump a drake, cause I know I can't break that tank without help (I run a tanked brut, so my dps suffers a bit). Use your head.
Hurricane is affected by the patch...how? I seriously don't get people's fear of Harbingers. I engage them without a second thought every time.
Broadsword is very good for lowsec gate camps and stopping stabbbed/fast aligning ships. I've seen it used numerous times with unparalleled success (compared to other HICs)
And I don't want to fight about the Tempest. It seems to be the "in" thing to whine about Minny, and the Pest especially, lately, so I'm not going to degrade myself to that. Suffice to say that I know several Minny pilots who love the Pest and think it's a great ship.
This all comes down to people wanting to just have to fly one class of ship for all situations. You HAVE to pick your ship for your battle. Switch ships, switch fittings, switch your thinking. Until now, the Vaga pilot's only necessary thought was "can I break the tank?" Now they actually have to think "can that ship kill me?" as well. It seems to be quite a scary thought to most Vaga pilots. But don't worry, the rest of us have adapted to actually getting shot and I'm sure you can too.

Wrong. Fit an AB. Problem solved.
Again, as I just said in reply to Minny whiner, you can't just expect one fit against any and all ships is going to work. You need to adapt, set up something and take a risk. Welcome to thinking.
This patch is good. It brings a level of uncertainty to EVE that has not existed in the time I've played it.

Disagree on so many levels. First off, tiers doesn't make a ship better than another. You can't say the maelstrom is supposed to be better than the dominix or scorion. The common link that the phoon and raven DO have though is role, where the raven clearly outpreforms the phoon.
Second, the cost is miniscule, and might even favor the raven. The raven doesn't have to use named modules to get the CPU to fit, and right now it's 82 mil - what's that, 5 mil loss after insurance?
Quote:

This is blatantly untrue and based upon nothing. Absolution and astarte will certainly outDPS it. Maybe even the nighthawk.

You telling me that I don't know how to fly a sleipnir? (Can YOU fly one?) I certainly have flown it a couple of times (it's too expensive for what it does), I know how to manage my cap and shields. The short part is, it will die long before it breaks through any sort of buffer your opponent may have, and it's entirely dependant on it's cap booster to live. It's only remotely good in small engagements, maybe 3 opponents max.

I doubt it. It's range is too good. It will be okay when combined with an arazu. The hyena I'm anticipating a web strength bonus, but I'm not counting on it.

I'd still favour the Hurricane in a direct fight... by a extremely small amount though, and totally dependent on who flies in what way, how far off the fight starts, who has damage/rof implants (and which), and who's got this and that L5 skill.
Naturally, the harbringer does better at range and other tomfoolery, and using Hail even with dual webs (which is what ill be fitting post patch on the cane) is going to be tricky.
The harbringer got slower and less agile - I still think they're the two best balanced ships in all of EvE, though.

Quote: Yes, you will struggle against anything with missiles, but welcome to the world vulnerability.
This comment makes me lose all faith that you've participated in any minmatar nano combat at all. All minnie "nanos" have to slow down to shoot, their capacitors are unbelievably small.
Quote:
Gallente and Amarr have been doing just fine taking missiles for a long time.
And they can field tanks that are worth a shit.
Quote:
Pick your battles, you can't just jump on everything you see. When I'm in a Brutix, I don't go jump a drake, cause I know I can't break that tank without help (I run a tanked brut, so my dps suffers a bit). Use your head.
What does this have to do with minmatar? Are you teaching me how to Pee Vee Pee? I got this lesson about 4 years back.
Quote:
Hurricane is affected by the patch...how? I seriously don't get people's fear of Harbingers. I engage them without a second thought every time.
Speed, webs, and (probably) mass. It was a fair fight pre-patch.
Quote:
Broadsword is very good for lowsec gate camps and stopping stabbbed/fast aligning ships. I've seen it used numerous times with unparalleled success (compared to other HICs)
You have to feed it with remote sensor boosters, where an armor tanker can tackle stuff without remote help.
Quote:
And I don't want to fight about the Tempest. It seems to be the "in" thing to whine about Minny
It's the projectiles dude, THEY SUCK.
Quote: and the Pest especially
Because the mael can do absolutely everything the pest does, except RR. It's worthless. Honestly. If you actually flew minmatar, you'd know that.
Quote: so I'm not going to degrade myself to that
Cute. I'll let our 35 pages of discussion and numbers talk for itself.
Quote: Suffice to say that I know several Minny pilots who love the Pest and think it's a great ship.
Then they're ignorant.
Quote:
This all comes down to people wanting to just have to fly one class of ship for all situations.
This has nothing to do with that. Why are you overgeneralizing and feeding me bullshit?
Quote: You HAVE to pick your ship for your battle. Switch ships, switch fittings, switch your thinking
Yeah AB vagas are now the in thing. Too bad they're worthless. Minnie ships are nothing without speed.
Quote:
Until now, the Vaga pilot's only necessary thought was "can I break the tank?" Now they actually have to think "can that ship kill me?" as well.
Seriously, next time you want to claim a race is fine, fly it first. Or at least TRY to. Vagas have always had troubles killing drakes, ravens, domis, ishtars, zealots, curses, huginns, rapiers.. just to name a few.
Quote: It seems to be quite a scary thought to most Vaga pilots. But don't worry, the rest of us have adapted to actually getting shot and I'm sure you can too.
My way of adapting is training a race that's worth a shit - without speed, that is. Amarr. Woohoo.

Non-cap boosted Minmatar nanoships could never solo any semi-competent missile boats anyway. Everyone knows that.

True. Although for the really 'omg, look at what I tackled, ma', you need to feed HICs with sensor boosters anyway ;)
But yeah, the armour tankers are better for smaller/less specialized gangs. Broadsword is a very fine ship, not top of its class maybe but oh well.
Why are you arguing with the noob who thinks the Tempest is fine anyway? Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Again, as I just said in reply to Minny whiner, you can't just expect one fit against any and all ships is going to work. You need to adapt, set up something and take a risk. Welcome to thinking.
This patch is good. It brings a level of uncertainty to EVE that has not existed in the time I've played it.
If you don't like to think or find it difficult, just contract your shit to me and I'll put it to good use.
So , do I use my mids, grid and cpu to fit both AB and MWD (on Thorax and Deimos, LOL), dropping web or scram/disruptor, use that cool new rig that provides 1 new midslot, or what? 4 slots max. Choose 4 out of 6: cap booster (for Mega its mandatory), MWD, AB, web, scram, disruptor.
Or do I heroically use AB and 9km Scrambler instead of both web and disruptor? First and foremost, blastership with only a AB is a sad joke. Even Thorax is way to slow under AB to close any considerable range, and would be useless solo, or in gangs that dont have dozen tacklers with them.

Multi-accounting, never done that myself even though I pondered about training up a Amarr alt a few months back - started it on trial in fact to see how a new player can do (and to give Amarr a spin).
I was in low-sec at day 2, without any extra funds from me either. Was a fun experiment, but I figured if I wanted to cross-train it'd be easier on my main thanks to the tons of support skills and stuff, starting up from scratch is a huge pain skill-wise.
I also like what we did to this thread Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

Sadly, the other 3 are just carebear noobs. My "main" alt has some touches of probing/gallente skills, but is a carebear at heart. The other two are straight up hulk alts.
I've always wanted a combat alt, but I could never "justify" having one. Struggled with the same thing you did, with the support skills and all. I figure once these hulk alts pay for themselves, they can start being more... "useful".
PS. Crappy thread to begin with, it's about time someone de-railed it.
