While in transit (only 13 more jumps to go!!!) I got thinking of a few ways to die in EVE that are very.. unconvential. Both of them are similar, due to 'computer malfunctions' you either crash into a star, or another ship and blow up. So, let's have a little fun. What way (outside of current methods) to die would make you just stare at your screen in disbelief the first time it happened to you?

The Witchspace scenario would be creepy. You're jumping thru a gate, and it quite doesn't end like you'd expected. Instead you end up materializing through a wrong gate with disastrous results.
The extreme version of this would be not materializing at all, but it's kind of hard to Prime Fiction spin how the mind transfer would happen, then - though getting randomly permakilled would certainly get a OMGWTFBBQSAUCE reflex working.

Probably a cloning accident. Your pod thinks it was destroyed, but it wasn't, so mid battle you sent across the galaxy to your new clone.
I'd be like

Well, if you mean die as in losing your ship... I heard once that you could eject from your inty while it was hauling ass and it would sail off into the distance and never be seen again. Never saw it myself, and this was back in 2006 so maybe it some RMR bug... Who knows.
Another variation of that (and this one is surely an urban myth) was getting your covops cruising along, cloak, then eject. Gooooooooone Foreeeeeeever.
Campfire stories. "There I was, mining solo, the only one in the system. When out of nowhere comes this pilotless crow, buzzes me and just keeps going. They say the Carry Molest is still zooming along to this day. Maybe in a few years it will pop up in the next system over".

If it were true it'd probably have to be pre-RMR since the game never behaved that way since I joined not long after the patch.
Another story from before my time harkens back to the days when torps had splash damage. A pilot ejected his ship to board another ship he had been firing upon but his torpedo boat didn't stop firing and he podded himself with his own torp splash damage. __________

It is true enough. I just can not remember how far back we have to go.
I can also remember a time when you could eject after you had initiated warp and the ship would still enter warp by it self. I used that once to have a fleet of ghost rookie ships move around the system.
An odd kill would be the m0o member who killed him self. Another old story from the time when torpedoes would travel very slowly. After having launched a large barrage against the victim, the victim ejects ship and our hero boards it only to have it seconds later blow up to his own torpedoes. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

I saw this happen,
Sutty, me (in tempest) and Flatliner (in raven) were up north killing an apoc.
Sutty was in a raven and real close, the apoc pilot ejected and warped off when he was way into stucture (he ejected get to -ve structure so we couldnt destroy his ship, it was a bug at the time).
Sutty gets all excited, "ooo free apoc"
We were all still shooting the unkillable apoc.
Sutty ejects next to the apoc in the hope of boarding it.
The torps sutty already launched did thier slow turn and hit the apoc... sutties pop goes boom.
I have never laughed so much in my life.
Also - the eject from a moving ship used to happen.
I think it was Frst who did that with one of the first scorps way back when. He ejected so someone else could try it out, but the ship was moving at about 100 m/s.
There then follows a benny hill chase of pods and cruisers to catch up with the scorp...

OMG the pile up, as ship after ship crashes into the one before them , not a nice way to go.
The ironic twist to this scenario being that people could still dock. Eventually the entire population of EVE would find themselves trapped inside Jita 4-4 and the EVE servers would self-combust forming a new star.

You're salvaging from some wrecks, and you suddenly notice your ship's sheilds, armor and hull - all at the same time - are slowly turning red... You get a message that tiny nanobots were in the salvage, and you see your ship quickly 'dissolve' from view, leaving only your pod.

- Having a Fedo slowly gnaw its way through your pod. As soon as the pod detects a hull breach you'll get the neurotoxin injection and transfered to your medical clone.
- Jumping through a get to end up in a empty black space with a hexagonal mothership attack you with a bunch of equally hexagonal fighters, ending as a simple neural scan information transmission on the other side of the gate. Thargoids can do that.
- Someone contaminating your podfluid with a nanopoison that first eats up your higher brain functions and then the lower ones. When the pod realizes you are dead there won't be enough brain left for a proper scan and you'll end up with a backup copy and a memory leak.
- Of course the classic from the book is getting run over in your interceptor by a dreadnaught cynoing in. OMGWTFSPLAT!

Scenario:
Rogue drones have battered down your shields, punched through your armor, and are now beginning to eat through your hull. Suddenly, the awful sounds of explosions and metal scraping metal cease and all is eerily silent. Out of the cloud of debris floating around your ship's battered remains, there looms a giant, cube-shaped Drone Hive Mother. Static crackles over your comm line and you hear a synthesized feminine voice declaim: "He will make an excellent drone..."
You must then watch as your ship is ripped apart and fed on, as the drones slowly work their way toward your pod...

Edit: Actually, I think the most shocking part would be for the normal system/constellation/sovereignty etc text to be completely blank. Or in gibberish of some sort. Furthermore, imagine if a gate dumped you in an un-populated system outside the EVE cluster, with no stations or jumpgates!
That actually happened a few years ago.. it was a bug. Some people found themselves an insane distance off of the map. Literally the "you are here" point was 50% map width away from the edge of known space...

Not only are you dead, but a few thousand station inhabitants die. You fly back in your clone to watch others scooping the few remaining intact items from your hangar and salvaging the wrecks of your other ships.
Would the station guns open fire on your clone as you approached?

Edited by: Elysarian on 01/08/2008 22:53:33 To steal an idea or two from Elite:
1. Make so all ships need fuel to warp (liquid Hydrogen?) - run out of fuel at high warp = carry on til you die of boredom/eject (did this in First Encounters a few times).
2. small % chance of jump-drive malfunction added to game, increasing on each jump unless you have the ship serviced regularly = drive explodes killing you in your ship or drive melts leaving you stranded wherever you are.
I also think planets and moons should be solid & anything bigger than a pod should damage/destroy your ship if you crash into it (pods bounce off or 'splode doing little damage) crashing into a station would, if your pod survived, get Concord on your ass to podkill you

I remember giving dock command and ejecting from ship just before it was in range (pre warp to zero) but i dont remember why we were doing this... maybe not able to leave ship in station... cant remember War. War never changes.

oh i konw one, lmao
like my first day in FW, we were in tama on the nourv gate (i konw, i know, what else is new) but we were in tama on the nourv gate, and some guy in a drake uncloaks trying to jump through the gate, but apparently he couldnt/ thought we wouldnt fire, anyway we pop his drake in like 30 seconds easy, and then i get a lock on the poor saps pod, and the FC tells me NOT to shoot was going to be my frist pod kill, and the FC tells me not to shoot him, but i soon found out why. . .
apparently the FC has a thing for making people in their pods his "pet" because he told me not to shoot, but to keep him warp scrambled and webbed, so i did, and some other guy also came in and scrammed/ webbed the poor fella, and we made him our "pet" lmao, he just sat there, inching at like 1 m/sec towards the gate, and the FC was like "i wonder how long before he realizes he's going to have to self destruct?" LMAO it still makes me laugh, because if this guy wouldnt self destruct his ship to get away, he must have had a pretty penny's worth of implants, because he didnt self destruct, and when his friends showed up some 10-15 minutes later, wwith us still laughing, we snuffed him out, so im going to guess he had a few hundred million/ about a billion in implants
so add that to the list:
becoming someone's "pet" in your pod, and having them name you "squishy", i think that is in the top 5 in "interesting way to die"

This post wins, thread over tbh.

I would invent a Black Hole Generator, then deploy it outside Jita 4-4.
I'll vote for getting your Titan slowly eaten by all of Goonswarm in rookie ships. Then the Titan DDDs for several thousand kills : P ---

I'm fond of thinking about what would happen if people I disliked jumped into a system and emerged within another ship.
Of course, two things occupying the same space is an impossibility, and people who commit impossibilities tend to meet unfortunate ends. I'm banking on a rather large explosion.

Yup. It was a way to dock your ship and be left in space in your pod. Worked well in 0.0 when you couldn't find a shuttle. LinkedIn

In the final days of beta I undocked from a station at found that my Ibis had become stuck in a Bantam making some kind of Ibis/Bantam hybrid ship. I warped the hybrid to the stargate, he warped us back to station and then me to the stargate. We could have been going on like that forever. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

back in the days of dual micro warp drive ravens there was a guy in m0o corp ,cant recall the name' might have been stravos, but i digress , fired a bunch of torps at an enemy bs 70k away the guy ejected so he warped to it ejected and got podded by his own torps..
back then torps did splash damage...
yes this is a true story

I'll have to cast my vote for organic spacebeasts eatting my ship. Imagine watching a giant spacesquid phase in beside your ship mid-mission, suck your ship into its gaping maw, then slowly phase out again before you appear in the clone vat. There's really not much to say to that!
