So my recent mining ventures have basically been, mine, dumo in pos, mine dump in pos, mine dump in pos. a freighter full of hedbergite. alone. it was boring. Now for the question. I am in a hulk with 2 cargo expander IIs and 3 strip miner 1s. the reason i dont use modulated is that industry has tanken a back seat to training my gunnery skills. anyway it takes me 4 cycles to fill up my cargo of 13 000m3. is it possible to reduce that to 3 cycles? if it does it require exhumers V and super mega gang bonuses and other expensive things? I dont have the luxury of someone hauling for me so the only way to carry lots of ore, is like this, and cargo rigs are a no no because i need shield rigs for 0.0 mining.

I think my yield without mining upgrades is somewhere in the 1300's per minute, so about 4000 m3 per cycle, and ~ 3 cycles to fill up the cargo hold. You wont want to max out anyway because you might want to carry an extra set of mining crystals, (150 m3).

A Hulk with 3 Giant Cans and 13005m3 of space can hold a good amount of ore, roughly four cycles of unboosted T2 modulated strips. For solo mining you should always go for cargospace rather than ore yield for a simple reason: travel time. You may fill your hold quicker but this would be balanced back by the fact you would travel more than if you go for cargospace. If you really need 3 cycles an MLU and T2 strips will do that. Don't forget mining drones, although you may want to keep ECM drones in the bay for any hostiles. ------------------------ Ship Yield Calc Improve Mining |

You know you can just jet can mine, like i do for about 2 hours then get your hauler. Less back and fourth and more mining time. Just find a nice spot with at least 30-40 roids in your reach and go at it. That way you can flip jet cans every hour and not worry about the jet cans popping.

On that note is a freighter essential for hulk jet-can mining or just nice to have? At the moment I use my bestower, while I finish training Industrial 5,for deep-space transports/blockade runners,as the 800 mill price tag for a freighter is a bit beyond my wallet at present..

A freighter can't pick things up in space, which makes it a rather poor choice to haul ore from the field to a station. Your best bet for picking up jetcan sized loads or more is a fully expanded and rigged deep-space transport.
Numerically speaking, with T2 expanders and T1 cargo rigs, the best industrials for the job are the Iteron Mk.V (38,433m3), Impel (36, 219m3), or Occator (35,508m3), with the Bustard and Mastodon coming in as acceptable alternatives (30,635m3 and 29,242m3 respectively). These numbers can be increased further with the use of GSC's. ---

Edited by: Rellana on 02/08/2008 11:02:22 I see, thanks.I didn't think the Amarr had anything good in the hauling role, but the Impel would seem to suit my needs greatly.I also have around 5 gsc's so that's a lot of hauling room.
