Oh hey, I guess I missed you saying that in all the dozens and dozens of tearful whinethreads where rich players made desperate pleas to be allowed to safely AKF. Got link?
hmm. i think i have responded to 3 topics about suicide ganking in my all time in eve. havent started any for sure. so maybe you are confusing me to someone else?
i admit i was suicide ganked once when i lived fulltime in hisec. was afk hauling in badger and didnt know about suicide gankings back then. was not huge loss about 500mil i think. taught me not to fly afk with valuables in cargo and to use better ships.
tho i learned my lesson i would not want anyone to suffer same or worse loss. and hey people can still do it but with more risk and coordination involved. so just do what people who have lost to suiciders are told when they post about losing stuff.
Adapt. that is the word i have seen quite many times on forums but usually it have been said by pirates and griefers. have a nice evening.

...You've asserted that only the consequences have changed. This is false, because concord response time has been decreased. This is a direct nerf to hi-sec ganking and not merely an alteration of the consequences for doing so.
Thus, your statement was false.

Edit: Atlantic, then Europa when it opened (a brief one-week stint on Datskills (german one?) when it opened before Europa.
Honestly, that sounds like me, my main "Neuromancer" always wore a Pink Jester's hat and a black (the "null" black) cloak with chainmail underneath. Corp Por, Paralyze (I can't remember the power words for lol) and my crossbow of vanquishing were my best friends for the 3 years before they introduced perma-red (and the crossbow nerf)
To get back on topic, you've actually hit the nail on the head; what made games like UO, Everquest, and EVE awesome when they first came out was the fact that they were unaplogetically hard, as a lvl 1 newb you'd die a thousand times learning how to play, each time taking a significant penalty. And to be very clear: Grind != Hard, hard = getting OMGWTFPWNBBQ'd by a lvl 1 mob in the newbie area. --

I wish they could find it too.
One of the few times Avon and I agree.
If CCP want people to move out to low/null-sec space, and stop the high-sec overcrowding. Then this is a very odd way of going about it.
The only sane balance I can see to this suicide ganking nerf, is to auto-kick pilots out of the NPC starter corporations after x-hours of gameplay. At least then, pilots can be wardecced rather than suicide ganked.
Yeah! I don't understand why people crowd into high-sec anyhow. Don't they know about the awesome low-lag action packed fleet fights that await them in 0.0? Oh, wait...
Look, victim and victimizer crowd into empire (both high and low sec) for the same damn reason. It's where they perceive the highest reward for the lowest risk to be.
Both types are carebears, tbfh. How is someone who will only shoot at a hauler or NPC setup boat that he knows can't really fight back any less carebear than the guy getting shot at? Kick everyone out of NPC corps whether they want to PvP or not sooo....? There's someone you can be better than? Wow, uber you.
If you like to PvP, grow a pair and go shoot at Verone or the Black Rabbits or any of the other bazillion experienced PvPers running around low-sec/null-sec. If you want to whine about not being able to war-dec some group of 6 month olds or gate camp T1 haulers, cool, but man, doing so under the auspices of "defending PvP" just stinks.

Originally by: Ruze First, the suicide balance was overdue. It just took out the unending profit of the matter, and people were using disposable alts way too frequently.
Second, EvE has been changing since way before that. Give it another year, maybe two, and we'll either be seeing some form of CONCORD intervention in low-sec, or CCP will shard EvE to provide a PvP-free world.
The new players who have joined over the past year, especially, have seen no proof outside of the occasional 'suicide grief gank' that EvE is not playable as a PvE only game. Nothing the devs have done has shown them this. And all the players do is act like griefers ... and most pvp players do ... which doesn't talk ANYONE into wanting to PvP.
Lag will get worse in mission hubs. NPC corps and single-man corps will see much more use. We'll lose the ability to carry out a wardec in hisec. We'll lose the ability to suicide gank without severe penalization. And the game will continue to split along the Empire line, between the money making area, and the PvP battleground. Everything else will be left to 0.0, where alliances do their own thing.
It's coming. It has been coming, and it'll continue. Because players aren't joining EvE to play EvE, they are joining EvE to play only 25% of the game.
If this ever happens I hope someone discovers sploitz to get a titan into motsu and nukes it, again and again and again.

I have just started playing about 3 months ago. Since then I have played my part as a mission runner, as most new people must, tried my luck in 0.0, and also tried messing around in low sec.
I have in never been the target of a suicide gank, nor found a person that has. That it is done is not a question, or that it is done frequently, I am just saying that it is not common in my experience. As for hte war dec nerf, I don't know enough about, but teh alliance I am in just got war decc'd twice today and I haven't felt any of the pains of that, just the tri dec....but still, I think that the 24hour alert is enough to get you ready.
really, I am not carebear or pvper, you just gotta play the game and hope that the devs don't screw it up, and if you don't like it, why play? if you came for part of the game, don't whine about another part that you just now found but you are too scared to do it.

people like you ruin EVE
not nerfing its balancing it!
Rebalancing is changing ship specs, the number of times CCP has overhauled basic risk/reward gamedesign is countable on 1 hand (out of my head, wtz (even though most had bms all over the place), introduction of base insurance) . --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

so true CCP is showing no loyalty to the subscribers that have been playing this game since beta.
You've been here since beta? Don't even start to assume you speak for me and what I've been waiting for.
I for one welcome the new developments and see them as CCP filling in the gaps and making it a more complete game.
Moderators lock on to the OP, he seems to be on a posting spree.
I agree i ahve also played since beta and do not agree with the posters op. I think CCP is doing such a great job, i also played Uo for about 8 years. I even continued after main shards to private servers, UO was good. But eve is definitly going in the right direction. I give CCP 100 thumbs up. UO was not as intresting as eve has even been. Eve is superior to UO by far.

As I keep saying, this fuss isn't about the current dev blog, at least for many of us. I see that as a positive change.
But it is just one more step in the path of what UO and EQ and SWG (in it's own way) have done. You want more money, you cater to the lowest common denominator.
So with other words, the haulers should be screwed and any imbalance should be kept just for the sake of cruelty in it?
Dont be ridiculous.
What this patch will do is to make the pirates choose: Either to be a pirate or to not be a pirate. You cant be a part time pirate! No criminals can!
Also the new publish brings more harshness into the game: removing innsurance from the agressor! Heck, why do you protest?? You get it harsher!
The problem seems to be in my eyes:
No more easy lulz, kill and money.
Get real!

Piracy is really the only playstyle I've seen nerfed consistently during the time I've been playing Eve.
Is this bad? Perhaps - piracy is but one of many pvp playstyles, but it's the only one that involves exploiting semi-broken, unfair game mechanics (and then vigorously defending said exploits as being fair and balanced, much like Fox News ) and the only playstyle everyone can point at and agree that it costs CCP money.
By introducing FW, and upcoming changes in sov that de-emphasize the blob, they're providing more sanctioned pvp opportunities, which almost by definition decrease the number of people both engaging in piracy (as they may find a sanctioned activity more enjoyable), and targets (who will find some pvp activity they like and pirates generally don't shoot people who might shoot back in some reasonably effective fashion)
I think the suicide gank changes are OK. I think they may have went too far with changing CONCORD and sec rating mechanics in the way they're going to (simply removing insurance payouts would have been enough, IMO, but there wouldn't have been any less crying about it). I'm interested in seeing how they can manage to change wardecs without completely killing off empire PvP though. ---

This is unfortunate and I'm a little sadder for it.
As for the OP and his Ultima Online theory: I pray that CCP learns or already has learned the history of how such a great concept became utter crap.
I wish that more focus was put on implementing game mechanics that make the game more dangerous. Not less. Or atleast focus on the broken aspects of Eve.
