I am just sick of the way people treat me in this game.
People feel just because there behind a monitor and 1000 miles away they can say whatever they want and be completely vile to each other.
If I had someone in the street talk shit to me like half of you do, I would be incarcerated right now for assault.
I don't get my feeling hurt, I do get ****ed however.
I just keep saying to myself why am I playing a game that's stressing the shit out of me?
Its a great game, don't get me wrong, but the amount of F"D up people playing it really ruins it for me.
I come to a mmorpg to have fun, not be abused.
Yes I am leaving, and NO you cannot have my stuff because no one here Deserves it.

Celestial Divinity,
If you feel you are suffering abuse or harassment from other players the you should submit a petition by navigating down the left hand menu on the forums and selecting "Create New Petition". Select the option "Rules and Policies", then "Harassment".
Once you fill out the details a GM will be more than happy to review your petition.
As you say - it is a great game and there are a lot of brilliant Corporations who do not engage in pointless smack. Stick with it and it only gets better

i dont grief people in game, someone once said the "n" word on local and i got on their case about it though
your stuff?
anyway, honestly dude, people (most) in this game, dont just come into a system and start trash talking YOU, they might start trashing someone else, and you get mad, then they start flaming you
or myabe your a year old or something, and every time someone says something, you tell them they are ******ed, or stupid, and they flame you for it, ive seen those people to
bottom line is, they dont come into the system to flame YOU, because frankly, your probably not that important
go on local and start convoes, make people laugh
like yesterday, i got in my itty mk2, moving all my stuff 3 jumps, and in each system along the way, i would say something like:
*soldieroffortune gets out and pushes his iteron full of valuable ore and t2 hardeners**
soldieroffortune > align faster dammit
soldieroffortune > oops, wrong channel
i got tons of laugh on each local for joking around
so honestly, dont make yourself known, you wont get flamed simple as that
and if you believe what those people say, you do need to leave eve and come back when your 16 or 17 and ignore those comments
there is also the lovely "block" function
so honestly, if you are leaving, can i have your stuff?

Celestial, I don't think that Eve is for you.
As mentioned by others, its highly unlikely that you're the target of some vast conspiricy. People probably flame you because of your actions, or because you respond to them. See, its your fault. There are a lot of sick bastards out there who troll to get their jollies. You apparently are guility of feeding them, if not outright being an ass in the first place. (I personally think that their typing is so bad because their other hand is ... 'busy')
So... we've established that this behavior is part of Eve and that you're a violent person who would knife someone cuz they didn't like your hair. What's the next step?
Either:
1> Grow a pair and shoot them. Eve allows them to smack you, but you can also smack back harder via war decs, etc.
2> Quit Eve. In which case, since I clearly deserve to be here, Can I Have Your Stuff?

Also a prime example of why many of us who have enjoyed EvE for YEARS don't play other games. CCP doesn't try to impose it's values or morals on people, and thus you are left to defend and protect yourself.
There is such a choice. Changing EvE because players don't accept the responsibility of taking care of themselves is probably the worst that can happen in this game.
I don't go bullying others, but I ain't here to cry when someone pushes me, either. I play EvE because I know that I have the means to defend myself, and I like how it puts me in that spot. If I wanted to have a preacher in charge of me, I'd play one of the many other MMO's on the market.
So you want security? That's perfectly alright. But you should be willing to trade freedom and profit for that security. |

I do sympathise with the OP.. I think the net in general gives people a false Bravado where they feel they can be abusive and nasty without consequence..
I do also think that EVE being the fantastic game it is, sometimes brings out the worst in people. The game demands effort and thought, in such you invest a lot of feeling into it, which in turn encourages people to;
1 - Gloat when they succeed or win. 2 - Whine, when it goes wrong.
Ive had 2 experiences recently, in FW.. in moments of madness, Ive suffered several losses recently,
The first, was to a caldari pilot, who applauded my gameplay, I was in an Arbitrator, he in a hurricane, I knew I was on a loser, but engaged him anyway. Maaged to get him into half armour.. but popped. We had a chat in local after, and all was well.
The second was different altogether, again FW, I was ganked solo by a 5 strong gang. They proceeded to pat each other on the back for an outstanding win... like I had a chance, abuse me in local, and send me eve mails linking to various pics on the net.
A totally different experience, one which left a nasty taste in the mouth, I wont be leaving though, i just wont read local any more :)
Long story short, there are some bottom dwellers and good people in EVE, dont generalise, and dont leave because of a couple of knock backs. Just ignore it.

Its not enough anymore, that number of player is not enough to keep a large subscription base in order to exapand and maintain an MMO, should CCP not be able to increase their player base in order to increase revenue their "free expansions" and "hardware upgrades" will start to diminish and eventualy lead to closure its just a fact of economics and market.
People in general (the masses) do not like this type of PvP ruleset and will always out weigh you me and the rest of the PvP shuttle popers that play Eve.

Au contraire, my bandwaggoning chum. It's generally the carebears who are the worst and most abusive smack-talkers. People who can, in fact, fight generally let their guns do the talking. People who can only hide in stations are the ones who generally run their mouth. And pilots who fight all the time tend to shrug when they lose a ship; people who believe they should be entitled to safety no matter how carelessly, lazyily or foolishly they play are the ones who froth like rabid little chipmunks when they lose a minespray.

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 12/08/2008 14:54:23 It's a pretty common problem that people react differently behind the keyboard than they do in real life, due to the insulation, or the perception that the person on the receiving end somehow isn't real.
EVE is an MMO and a social game. It's populated by the real world. Oddly enough, the real world is full of jerks, unpleasant people, those who are selfish, ignorant, or insensitive. EVE is unlikely to be different. To be honest, every MMO has them, it's just that EVE attracts them like shit attracts flies, because here you can do pretty much anything in-game. Does that make EVE bad? Far from it - a dog is just being a dog, when it urinates on a fire hydrant you can't blame the world or the fire hydrant, or even the dog, it's just its nature. In EVE at least you can blow the dog to smithereens.
I'd say that EVE is equally an RPG and some people roleplay jerks, but that's stretching it a bit I think (some do, but it's not that many).
Block them, don't rise to them, and go find the people worth spending time talking to. They're out there. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |

Its not a matter of 'finger pointing' its Eve core PvP ruleset that brings out the worst of people and the fact that if it continues Eve will never claim larger subscription numbers and eventually be unable to turn a profit in order to maintain their MMO. So say as you wish, the truth of the matter is unless there is change Eve will never scale!

Do you have to sacrifice the principle of player competition in order to get a larger customer base?
Many forget that business ownership is not just about the amount of customers. For some, it's about a quality product, or providing to a specific audience. How much does EvE have to give up (and yes, I think it's a loss), in order to reach this utopia of millions of players?
It shouldn't stop growing. But nor should it try to appeal to a playerbase who DONT WANT THE GAME ANYHOW. If you are playing EvE to play a single-player game with an IM, why are you playing EvE?
Claiming that CCP should bend or fold to support the 'majority' is a poor argument. Should the rest of the world bend and fold because east asia has the majority of human beings?
To appeal to the vast majority, you have to make things simple, and easy. Why? Because human beings as a group are stupid. Individuals are smart, but the reason WoW survives is because it markets to the lowest common denominator of the playerbase. The stupidest, poorest, laziest and most naive.
WoW is not the benchmark for the gaming community. EvE is. Build a quality product for a dedicated playerbase. The guys who have been here years are still here (though some take breaks). But when someone complains about not liking it and how their friends won't come over to play, I have to wonder why you want to change the game to fit you, instead of recognizing that it's not the kind of game you enjoy.
If you think "but I like EvE, except for the PvP", then please recognize that no, in fact, you don't like EvE.
So you want security? That's perfectly alright. But you should be willing to trade freedom and profit for that security. |
