Originally by: Bronson Hughes I generally PvP in fairly inexpensive ships (insured T1 cruisers/battlecruisers, 'ceptors, assault ships) so ship losses for me aren't horrible.
The only time I ever got really angry over losing a ship in combat was a Megathron that I lost in an Empire War a few months back. We sent a bait Abbadon to the gate, the targets were engaging him, and our gang jumped in to lay the hurt on our targets. I lock up primary, secondary, and our bait ship to throw a remote rep his way. Next thing I know, I'm getting CONCORDed.
Apparently I warp scrambled our bait ship (who was in my alliance but not my corp) and threw a remote rep on my secondary (who I was supposed to be scrambling). DOH!
Although this wasn't a combat loss, I also lost a Rokh once to a contract scam. Totally my fault, taught me a good lesson, and certainly qualifies as a PvP loss.
LOL, were you the guy who lost the Rokh to the 10 rookie ships?

The most annoying recent death was getting doomsdayed by Von Zarovik and then immediately getting doomsdayed again by Evil Thug. I didn't care about the loss, but i never got the mail with 2 titans on it

iv not got mad at losing any ships per say, i lost a freighter on my alt going though low sec and got pwned, i had a scout, but a cloaked rapier grabbed me long enough for his buddies to come lol i just got a bit damn im dumb kinda thoughts.
i do somtimes get annoyed when were blobbed, for example me and 3 friends were gate camping in sydicate, <allaince> would lose a ship the camp, then we would have say 4 >sameallaince> ships enter, we would be like ahh here comes the trap, they engadge we always like to fight so go for it, then local spikes another 15 all <sameallaince> warp in, when they outnumbered us already lol, thats annoys me and i restrain myself to just say in local "gf but blob much" then just complain on ts :D

I just learned that no amount of research into tactics can really prepare you for that first pirate encounter.
I just lost my first ship to players yesterday. I took a risk and got burned by getting jumped. Strangly, I couldn't be mad about it... as I was the one who took the risk. I sat there at my chair too dumbfounded to think when I got scrambled, forgetting everything I was supposed to do. Then when I realized I was done for, I chuckled to myself "I'm about to lose my first ship".
I regained my senses as I was in hull and had enough focus to warp my pod out just as the ship was coming apart. Gave the pirates a respectful salute and got my ass out of the system.
I had the shakes after-word. I had to hit the punching bag a few times to blow off the excess adrenhiline. I looked back at the situation, figured out what I did wrong, and refitted a new ship. The dent it put in my savings will be a lesson learned. --------- "The first rock thrown again, welcome to hell little saint. I see alot of "I dont get mad because I really dont fly my uber ships into risky areas"
How do you guys hold back the urge. God, my rule seems to be if I buy it, I fly it. I mean I understand, because I probably lose my best ship on average 48 hours after I get it! LOL! I inevitably do something dumb with it and have to go get another one.
It doesnt really **** me off though. _______________________________________________ RuntimeError: ChainEvent is blocking by design, but you're block trapped. You have'll have to find some alternative means to do Your Thing, dude. |

Interesting topic.
Over 3 chars I've lost 13 or 14 battleships, some BC's, mostly just T2 fits on all of them. One +4 clone, and a few +3 clones. Some assorted small stuff too, including Qui's three T1 haulers mentioned in another thread on the forums Highlight would be a 500+ mil Domi I guess, or the sweet 400 mil Ishtar that lasted....not very long.
Some of those made me a bit sad for a bit, even angry at the silly mistakes that led to the Ishtar loss. But I'd never loose my temper over something like that. I don't often loose my temper period. Some who know me irl would say never, but that's not true.
A simple typed "crud" is my strongest expression of regret or anger about shiploss to date, I believe.
However, loosing my first "big bucks", i.e. 114mil (iirc) Drake to NPC's on her maiden voyage (was drunk, dozed off), now that ****ed me off. For a long time too. Mainly because it was more then I could afford at the time. Had to sell off almost all of my precious loot to replace it, and even then I got a slightly inferior setup, priced around 90mil iirc. As long as I had that inferior setup, it kept reminding me of my blunder, I guess that's why it took a while to get over it.
I still mention that loss whenever the opportunity to do so arises, either as some odd form of selfpunishment or, I dunno...therapy But never talked about it outside EveO community. Didn't shout or swear either, not out loud at least. Considered quitting, but not for long.
I have seriously lost my temper over a computer game once though. Stayed ****ed off for three days, either sulking or fretting about my mistake. Enough so that my then gf demanded I give up simracing all together, something about my reaction not being "normal" or "healthy". Sheesh.
She never did understand it's all about excerted effort and the expectations of the "fruits of that labour". Whether the competition is irl or on the computer doesn't matter in the least. Many don't get that.
It was towards the end of a GTR2 league season, which hadn't really gone my way, not according to my own expectations at least. But in this race I was nevertheless in a position to beat one of my own longtime simracing "heroes", after more then a year of trying. Despite dropping down through the field in the beginning, I managed to put myself in a very strong position towards the end of the 120 minute race. Had a decent lead, but because I had wasted my tires getting that lead he was catching up. I was convinced I had it covered, that a goal I'd set myself almost at the beginning was going to be reached. That I was finally, by my own standards and opinion, going to "succeed" at this particular game, sim or hobby, whatever you want to call it.
Pride precedes a fall, and so I lost focus for an instant, getting too excited at a favorite part of the track, wanting to impress a backmarker I was lapping, but naturally ended up spinning off instead. (this is where the smiley hitting itself with a hammer goes)
That was that. Position lost, victory lost. But that's not what made me mad, even if it's aggravating. The guy was quitting after that season, so I could not ever get another shot at it. Even if he came back now, it wouldn't be the same. Faces change, sim-platform may change, but more importantly, I advance and grade myself differently, and so it would no longer be the achievement it would have been at that time.
That was my chance, my opportunity, my moment. My goal that I had defined for myself. And I totally blew it, by letting an emotion I despise distract me. (vanity, pride)
Neither Eve, nor any other point and click game, can ever come close to that intensity, not for me at least. And so you will never find me swearing at a shiploss.
Yeah, it's a quiet friday night. I'm home with a cold, nothing better to do then ramble on about 'puter games.
TL:DR - I don't get "verbally violent", not over a shiploss at least.

I don't get verbably abusive at all - rather I stew on it trying to work out all the things I did wrong. If I didn't do anything significantly stupid, and I wasn't lagged out, I get over it and move on. If I did make mistakes, probably the case, then I keep grinding over it in my head until I finally manage to let it go. I definitly learn from my mistakes but it is not a pleasant form of learning.
If I lost my ship my to lag, I don't lose alot of ships so the percentage lost to lag is quite high, then I feel very sad and sorry for myself. Like when I lost my Vagabond with a 28k point (for mission busting) to a Hyperion in a belt. Generally my corpmates will cheer me up eventually and I will go back to plotting destruction and mayhem.
In my experiance carebears who have just lost their ship to pirates are likely to be the worst smackers. Especially if you ransom their pods. While I have encountered pirates who smack as bad as carebears their numbers are small compared to the all the carebears pouring out torrents of hate. Real life threats, "I know the CEO of Bob" threats, war dec threats, or just torrents of foul mouthed abuse. We just laughed - never bothered getting people banned. Sadly there was only one time when the promise of a merc corp war dec was followed through on and the mercs were a total dissapointment - leaving after losing two ships for no result. Never found out wtf was going on there.

I used to cry, scream and complain. Not so much now. While I have lost ships like 6 hrs after I fit them and cussed out, most of my crab rants are because I am sitting in a base in a system infested with reds and I can't play. I don't lose the ship, I just can't play because they have a 3:1 Blob and won't leave because they got one hauler or some crap and think they will get another one.. |

Most angry I ever got was in an NPCing Raven. Had NPCed for a couple hours and ended up not realizing I had no missiles left. My launchers reloaded and I had 24 in one launcher and 4 in another. Asked a corpmate what local was like in the next system where there was a station and more missiles and he said just one guy that had been sitting there for a while. Jumped in, Pilgrim decloaks on the gate and is at 23km. Scrambles me, then gets out of range. I hit warp again and a nanosecond before I warp, he gets back in range to scram. I send my 28 missiles flying at his drones to no avail. After about 8 minutes of sitting there tanking he gets backup and I end up dying. I felt like I was jammed due to my inability to fight back. I was swaring up a storm on TS, I just couldn't believe how unlucky I could have been. I like pie. |

I hate getting killed when im fighting 3 v 1 and winning against ships that are supposed to completely outclass me ( 2 command ships and 1 hac fighting against one of my myrmidons) and they call in more heavy ships and kill me.
Its not the isk, its not the fact that they already outnumbered me, its the fact that people are so pathetic, that they have to call insane amounts of backup to get a kill sometimes.
Its the fact that blobbing can replace skill if the blob is large enough. Thats about the only thing that irritates me.
So in other words, I get ****ed off if I die to an unskilled pilot. __________________________________________ When Will I be able to post again ? 13 days, 23 hours, 55 minutes, 36 seconds |

Originally by: Akita T Just how violent (verbally) do you get when you lose a ship ?
It depends upon the circumstances. If the ship is brand new, then I'll be really angry. If the ship is old and has paid for itself in missions, loot, pvp kills, or simply surviving several ops, then I'm not so angry.
If I've lost it to a good fight, then I'm not angry. If I've lost it to some bullshit whereas I couldn't fight back (ewar, ninjagank, etc), then I'm angry.
But generally, it depends on two things: if I had fun in it while getting it blown up and if I can afford to replace it, then I'm happy. If either of those aren't the case, then I'm not happy.

Oh, yeah, that one is pretty nasty. But also nasty is when you drop sentry drones (I had a brief stint of Dominix-L4-piloting before I went back to the Drake then NH) and start moving accidentally, and when you realize what's going on you're 30-40 km away from your sentries, you don't have an AB, and the next reinforcement wave just arrived and it's targetting your sentries

i usually swear a bit. i dont like dying. example from today, i let my sec status get below -2.0, and i was running through empire on autopilot hauling some crap for a courier mission. the stupid agent was giving me crap missions and i couldnt reject another so i was running the courier in hopes of getting a good sec status mission. anyway:
i look over as my hauler hits warp its webbed.. i consider someone tried to gank me. then as im landing on the gate i noticed i was in a 1.0 system.. and my sec status was -2.2 still.. corp chat looked like: me: wtf me: oh shit me: f_ck! me: i just autopiloted through a 1.0 system and got a T2 fit hauler blown up with my courier mission crap in it. F_CK! corpmate: LOL that was great me: =( *sulks back in a shuttle to reject the mission and take the standing hit*
lost like 8-10 T2 mods on that hauler lmao... oh the joys of forgetting about sec status and not paying attention.
theres also the classic "i was in warp and got blown up" then noticing your logs show 2 different people shot you, and having 5 different people show up on the kill mail.... while you were in warp. the logs showed nothing in that situation
there was much swearing after that loss.
