I'm nice (or try to be ) in EVE. I love most ppl here; even the smacktards, trolls and whiner alts.
Yes you're all annoying but compared to the people I have to put up with in RL... |

well ingame im much more prone to step up and take charge and to open up and say what i realy mean (and if youve flown with my you will know that i will tell you exactly what i think of you even if you dont ask) but in rl im prety quiet and reserved, though surprisingly after 2 years in eve im starting to speak my mind more and step up up and take charge when i get the change and im alot less shy and i gota say i realy like it |

Originally by: LaVista Vista I like to discuss much more in real life, because there's less trolls. And those who are, are easy to spot and sort out.
Generally, this.
In my own experience online forums aren't so much a place to discuss things as much as they are a place to make statements on subjects of interest to me and to make statements about statements made by other participants of the forum.
I find there are both advantages and disadvantages to forums, text chat and voice chat (both online and in person) when they are compared to each other. No single system is perfect and all are open to one form of exploitation or another. This is simply the impact of certain aspects of human nature upon communication and I accept this to be reality. |

I am nicer to players in EVE than people irl. In EVE if you meet annoying people you can block them, ignore them, join another corp, log off for the evening or finally blow them up. In real life the options are much more limited.

I'm generally courteous to people and show them the same amount of time and respect as they show me in and out of game. Try to help corp mates I trust with anything they need when asked. I like to contribute towards whatever collective goal we might have in whatever capacity my online time allows. I find it difficult to act negatively to someone unless they've really done something that especially offends me that would warrant more than just being ignored. |

I am the same in game as i am in RL. I have a tendency to **** off the idiots in RL just like I do in game. I can be a complete ******* when someone basically begs me to act like it. I am the counter ******* , *******. You act up for stupid reasons your going to find me cutting you down by making you look like a fool, ripping up your reasons and beating you over the head with the remains.
In eve ive been rather reserved. In another MMO, arguments were a daily, hell hourly event because of the idiots wanting to play games. People learned to keep their traps shut except for the most moronic of them all.
I don't care how many "yes"men you have polishing your knob, if your asking to be put in your place thats what I'm going to do.
I can be really laid back and friendly but that depends on the person I'm talking to. I can be the complete opposite when the situation demands it. I can't really tell you what i prefer to be, laid back or hammering away at some idiot that needs to be reduced to the pile of shit they really are. I enjoy both.
I do enjoy leveling cliques. Others in game and RL have also been happy that I am the ass that I am as they have someone that has been on their case put in their spot. So the ones that were being put down or forced to conform can finally relax and be themselves and enjoy, work, life or games just like everyone else.
Basically, "Rhino" is spot on when describing me in RL and in game. |

Actually this is something I went over with a girl I knew in RL. Basically I used to be quite and put up with more crap then I would now. But that wasn't really me. I was more myself in another mmo and it ended up serving basically as practice to being myself in RL. Some people are complete frauds online since they do have a monitor and miles between you and them and the unknown location factor.
I have had ******s on here try and talk trash as well as in other games without end. In RL, i know theres some that want to but don't have the balls to actually speak their mind. The more i become myself, the less crap people are willing to try and pull in RL. |

You can observe this difference to a lesser extent by looking at people in small towns vs. in large cities. In the latter people *tend* to be more rude etc, since they have less to lose by being a jerk (the other person is unlikely to see and recognise them again).

Originally by: Olleybear For me, my playstyle is almost the same as my RL personality. Saying that, my RL personality has changed over the years as has my playstyle. I used to be helpfull and nice in RL and as such, I became an anti-pie in game and blew up people that preyed on the weak.
Now, I have become more cynical and less caring in RL due to R-tards ( idiot neighbors, coworkers, bosses, politicians ) and my gameplay has adjusted accordingly. I dont defend those that are weak in game because they wont even try to defend themselves. Its wasted effort. I've pirated a few times in game, but that didn't agree with me. Kinda like standing outside grocery stores waiting on old ladies to come out, beating them up and stealing their groceries, wouldn't agree with me in RL.
So all in all, my playstyle is close to my RL personality and has changed with it.
Noooo, Olleybear.. Hedal is no longer safe.. hm not that it ever was from the BYDI :)..
heheh.. me, i'm just a normal guy in RL, in game i tend to do a bit of everything, change with my surroundings and the crowd that's in the region and the people i play with.. but really whatever happens to be my mood at the moment.. it's a game after all... |

Personally, I'm not too different in EVE than I am out of game. I've never been one to inflict unnecessary grief on others, and I'm usually more than willing to go out on a limb to help other people. |

I try, with a fair amount of success, to be an all round decent guy in game and in RL.
Having said that, I view low sec and 0.0 as regions for aggrssive competition. So I will shoot folks there.
As part of trying to be decent, there are two things I have gotten fairly heated up on: The BIG one was when a certain in game group mocked the Real Life death in a traffic accident of a player. The specific individual that did this has no remourse, and remains in that group. On a much lesser scale, folks that beg CCP to ruin other folk's game for no "practical" reason annoy me, and I don't hide it.

Edited by: Empyre on 21/08/2008 06:08:14 I am mostly a strong advocate for morality in everything, RL or otherwise. Worst I get is a bit mouthy when someone instigates and I'm not sober, but I stay sober nowadays. I just can't bring myself to have fun at another persons expense when I know there's another human being on the other side.
I tried training up an alt pirate one time but he ended up running missions.
edit: actually there was one act of deviance but i'll never get into that. i don't feel very good about myself without at least mentioning it, though. (and i believe karma knows no boundaries)

Not really. In a large city there's just a lot more people and the ones that are obnoxious stand out a lot more. I'm sure you don't notice the other perfectly polite and well mannered hundred or so people walking down the street - you only notice the ones bumping into you or cursing up a storm in public.
I live in NYC and I can say that on the whole people are nice and decent - you just have rotten apples that are very hard not to notice. |
