how about another mining skill o great ones.
I like mining, I like being a miner but the skills seem pretty limited.
Theres no reqson in learning the skills to the top unless you mine low end ore all the time which kind of goes against the whole idea of skill building.
how about another mining skill with a really high rank so if you get it you actually get a difference mining the higher end ores.
OR mebye even seperate advanced skills for each ore like has been done with refining
cmon give your mining elite a break and make it a more rewarding eve career.
I think for an the next level of mining if its an all in skill the reqs should be
mining 5 asterology 5 refining 5 refining efficiency 5 Deep core mining 1
you get the idea, reserve the skill for those who have really invested an insane amount of time to get it so they can actually get a benefit on those higher end ores. Wayz: cmon X hurry up I aint got all day! Twisted Xistance: oh yeah lol.... anyway, you have got all day you benefit scrounging jobbless schmoe! Wayz: too chey :) |

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.
Bear in mind that any 'advanced' mining skills will likely come with a nerfing of the current mining skills, so you'll wind up being at the same point with the advanced skills as you are now, without them.
Oh, and 'make it a more rewarding eve career'?? You're f*cking joking?? Mining is the most profitable career in EVE!

To a certain extent, I agree with this.
Mining should have a few more specialised (high level) skills. It should be more of a career - not everybody should be able to mine every type of ore.

i think specialized skills would be cool. you got skills to refine specific types of ore, why not skills to mine specific ore too. maybe rank 5 for all ore that can be found in empire space, rank 6 for 0.4-0.0 space (not including arknor and bistot) and rank 7 for ark and bist or whatever theyre called. Each level of skill could provide a slight boost in mining laser output but only for the same ore type as the skill, or maybe give it a slight bonus in speed or something.

I'm all for making it so there are special skills for mining certain or, i.e. bistot, crok, ark, and some others. I often find newbies trying to cowboy it in their "bad ****" MOA. it is unfair that they can just come out in worthless ships and mine their hearts content under the supervision of more skilled players, and then expect us to haul for them. I would prefer a smaller more organized experience, or at least if it's large, everyone in the group has to be a good miner. This would leave the newbs to munch on low end ore, which is as we all know the hardest stuff to get when you're eating mega and zydrine all day. So the skills would actually balance the mineral ratio. This would lower the demand for min, which in turn would lower the price, of low end that is. It would raise the price of high end minerals making it even more worth the time to train the skills.

Then why not also make a subset of gunnery skills so that not everybody can fire on all kinds of ships?

How about a gang skill that affects mining output? Or which affects the effective speed for Indy's, or their cargo ? That would encourage group mining a lot I think.
just my 2 cents, tho

Nah I feel the ultimate acheivement in mining is being able to effectivly mine in a 0.0 system using no anchored containers or anything like that on your OWN.
people should not be encouraged to do the opposite, that I beleive would be a terrible shame. Big group mines are bad for belts in 0.0 wheras when you get a professional solo miner going around they dont just obliterate one belt.
It took me a long time to become a master miner who could do it on my own and mine more than most small groups (well so my wingman says lol) nothing would anger me more than if CCP made it so you HAD to be in a group to mine the best.

I have no combat skillz at all I also enjoy mining and dont really want to do anything else. However everyone mines about where I do combat artist or whatever. That is annoying and wrong miners always tend to get the shaft while the combat people get all the love. We need and I think deserve three things. 1. Some miner specific skill that are not easy to get and will take time. 2. A ship made just for mining. 3. A new way to mine other then Jet mining that is profitable and rather simple.
Though I doubt we will ever get everything I am sure eventually the Devs will throw us a bone.

Liquid resources.
Special extraction skills for getting things like frozen liquids from 'roids or comets and possibly gases from nebulae aswell.
This could be - well I dunno used for something or other it's only the inkling of an idea. I just like the idea of having to implement a 'tanker' indy.
Just imagine it, not only new resource gathering skills and new ships but also ships carrying volatile cargoes that go bang very easily and possibly require special special handling skills to utilise and special modules required to modify the cargo holds of non-tanker ships.

1: totally agree 2: there is already one, the apoc hehe, but seriously mining frigates are on the agenda for elites anyway. I have to say I'm quite happy with the ship line up atm 3:nah, as I said before there are loads of little tricks you can learn to mining were you can mine fast as hell in 0.0 (tactics not exploits) that require dedication to learn. whats so fun about mining? lol i left mining to go do PVP beacuse.... jezz its easy to win against a big rock ----------------------------------------------- I saw god the other day. By the river on a rainey afternoon. He helped a kitten that was left all alone. Its a god that only I can see. A blackened angel that came down from the heavens just for me. |

well this is my 1st post on these boards but i have to agree, a new mining skill would be useful, but a new view on all these ideas is this
how about give use a skill that shorten's the time taken for each cycle of the mining laser by 10%, i'll give an example....
say a mining laser(2) has a total output of 84 ore unit's per 60 seconds, this new skill would(at lvl1) cut the time taken to 54 seconds(but still 84 ore unit's), it would basically increase the ammount of ore we could mine per hr, but need the following skills mining lvl 5 astrology lvl 5 electronic's lvl 5 deep core mining lvl 5 and survey lvl 5
just a thought

nah it would kill the economy, just imagine a 50% faster rate mining veld or scord or something weak like that. would be to powerful a skill all around.

I personally am against group mining for the following reasons
1) group mining has a terrible effect on individual belts and systems and has been responsible for totally wrecking massive areas. groups move in pop all the roids and wreck the systems for a long time to come
2) you get nasty noob corps that rip off their members in group mining sessions.
3) It prevents people from learning to master mining (ninja mining is the ultimate mining mastership)
4) ninja miners dont really have a mass negative effect on systems as they come in and hit different roids every day and different belts. Wayz: cmon X hurry up I aint got all day! i do like the idea of the shortened mining skill cycle, but 10% is WAY to much, make it more like % which cuts at lvl5 5 seconds per cycle. make it a hard skill and there is your skill for elite mining.
i'm also for nerfing the rest of the mining system a bit. 75% of eve consists of miners... i dont really think thats good...
250's are definitely more versatile, but All the cool kids are using 280's. |

Alot of great ideas, wont comment them all though... Im all for new mining skills - they are needed. But what we really need is a way for the pro miner to differ from the rest. Everybody is mining, maybe they hunt mostely but if quick cash is needed ppl always seem to turn to mining. So I think there should be some way of the dedicated miner to make him wanted by corps.
What I hear right now, from corps is "We need great PVP¦ers... and maybe some miners" where they should be saying. "We need the BEST miners in the world!" - you would have to make an erly choise: Miner or fighter. Miners do their stuff to the max, and so do the fighters. But if you choose little of both you wont be an expert, and less wanted than pros.
So from where I sit: A couple of new specialized mining ships and a bundle of expert mining skills to go with that.

How about ore specific mining skills adding 5% to mining amount only for that ore type.
All of them require at least mining 5, astrogeology 5 (that way there's no skipping out on being a dedicated miner like you can with the refining skills)

Lots of interesting Ideas. How about more variety or specialization in the mining lasers/ mining drones requiring new mining skills. I sometimes use a mix of miner 2's and Cu-vapor mining lasers due to CPU reqs and for added range of the CU-Vapor.

I think devas skill ideas would be fun to work with.
Mining class ships would be a great addition also. I heard maybe mining ships were coming at some point (maybe just a rumour?). Obviously other ships can be used to mine, as they always have been. A mining ship could give a 5% ore amount bonus per mining ship skill level trained, more range on mining turrets, and perhaps more turret hardpoints that would only be good for mining. These ships could be less defensive, but much better at mining and widely used in group mining where you would need some fighters to handle the rats and work security.
