And no jumpgates. Several billion stars. Gravity wells. Asteroid belts that stretch around the entire system or planet. Planetary rings you can fly into. I have fond memories of Elite, and I will be jumping to Infinity from day 1 of launch.

This games comes out in 2009 . CCP will have some serious competition and realise that mistakes must not be made .
Infinity poses a massive threat as the devs seem to have looked at what EVE players want, and put it into Infinity.
For example, Planetary Flight and being able to paint your ship.
Some players will jump on the twitch combat, newtonian physics and compliance to astrophysics. Sense of scale appears to be very good.
Oh, and judging by the concept art and renders... the ships aren't 80% Ugly design abominations either.

now the real disscusion should be about what will infinity do with 2 other mmorpg coming out with the same lines of thinking?

Which 2? Jumpgate is not even close to Infinity (Infinity is more like a combination of Jumpgate + EVE indeed), and otehr I can't think of. Anyway is a long time until nothing is released, so I'll be in EVE forawhile, but better CCP starts to wake up and actually evolve their engine and add real features + fixing stuff.
Also controlling your ship is win for me (and you will be able to control caps in Infinity, just will be a team effort to get them and probably fly them; like Titans here pretty much).

Combats will be real-time, twitch (action) based, much like in a flight simulator or a first-person shooter. You will be in full control of your ship.

Personally I welcome twitch, rather than relying on your guns to track, its down to your ship and maneuvering it yourself. Battles could be oh so much more intense if you're actually flying your ship. Rather than just dithering around outside of it.

Infinity looks daft. Not to mention some of the game mechanics is gonna make me cry. Frigates can lose a wing and start spinning around...in space? That's just wrong. Durability on boosters and guns. This means that you gotta repair constantly when used, rof will be less favoured and alpha has more importance. This prolly leads to the Alpha of Doom like in EVE before the hp buff.
I didn't take my sweet time to notice regarding skills. Does it only improve when you are online like a grindfest or does it have a skilling system like EVE? If the first, then no can do. I hate a grind fest just to raise in the grades. EVE is more managable this way.

I'm not that interested in "Twitch based combat" for a space sim myself, just means my arthritic hands won't stand a chance at all, great fun knowing I'll loose every fight no matter what and the guy with the best mouse wins
Also, surely it just means every fight will be a "Dogfight", two ships twirling around trying to get behind the other? If engage -> twirl -> shoot is more exciting than Engage -> keep your ranges, speeds, transversal correct -> shoot, all it means is you have to move the mouse more.

Fair point, i think its up to a persons opinion really. i really like EVE but i also enjoyed X3, Freelancer and Tacyon - The Fringe, they all allowed you to have decent dogfights using a joystick or mouse and keyboard. I like fighting that way but i also like EVE way. Sometimes, bit dull when you turn on guns and wait in eve.

The weapons damage over time. In EVE your gear gets damaged after a while as well. Same thing in Infinity.
Regarding skills. Infinity has no skill advancement because there are no skills. There are no feats, levels or classes. Everything is player skill. From the twitch based flying, to skill at finding asteroids and mining them, to skill in putting together a ship (yes, you will be able to build a ship made of glass in Infinity). Even docking and jumping to another star will require player skill.

Its strange. I tried out the combat pre-alpha prototype. Momentum is conserved during flying. So you can slam your thrusters in one direction, then spin your ship around on a dime and fire at your enemy while moving away from him. It makes it tricky to negotiate asteroids and it feels very strange, but when you get used to it its not bad at all.
Either way, ship combat is not the primary focus of Infinity. I think the developers are aiming for exploration to be one of the biggest features of the game, which is nice because the procedural universe allows exactly that. You can for example, look at the sky, point to a particular star in a distant nebula and say "that will be my new home". You can then travel there and make that your home if you want.

WAIT WAIT WAIT JUST A FRAKIN MINUTE. Seriously is it just me or did the OP pull the wool over the sheeps' eyes on this thread?
He says he makes stuff and does an occassional L4 mission? He says that he uses cruisers in FW and mentions that the cost of them stack up?
Did he SERIOUSLY mention the nano-nerf?! Did people not go "hey wtf is this guy talking about??" when reading the OP's message?
3 things I gotta point out that made me go "wtf?"
1.He says the costs of cruisers stacks up. He says he makes some stuff and does an L4 but didn't say he grinded L4s all week or was making t2 gear. It seems obvious that hes not because if he did then cruisers would be a joke to replace.
2.He mentions the nano-nerf in the SAME post he mentions how the costs of cruisers start to stack up. Is it just me or would the costs of cruisers be nothing compared to putting together nanoships? Does anyone believe hes got isk for nanoships but complains that cruisers are costly to lose??? Difference in the amount of isk needed, anyone???
3.He complains about the costs of cruisers stacking up but also mentions he does L4s. Yeah he didn't say where but if your building stuff, having a hard time covering the costs of cruisers and doing L4s, your not going to be in lowsec. WHY? The costs of replacing cruisers would be nothing compared to replacing BSes. Add in the fact that he said he is in FW meaning hes got a good amount of people that would have no problem probing him out in lowsec and popping him. The difference in rewards isn't enough for such a person to warrant doing low sec L4s. So if its highly unlikely hes doing them outside of empire, why the **** would he want to see L4s changed?? "how Level 4s still haven't been addressed concerning risk/reward..." Why would you want to get your source of income nerfed when your crying about cruisers?
Crying about capital ships not being allowed in empire space? If your group cant beat the hell out of a "carebear corp" with BSes then something is wrong. Would you really want to admit you need to roll capitals in order to win a war against fuzzy wuzzy carebears???
Dude, your stuff, i demandz it contracted to me now!
Thanks as for those that responded to this fail thread talking about wow and crap need their heads checked...or just go back to wow where it makes sense for ya.

I'm not sure if this applies to you or not, but the developers of Infinity have made it clear the game will be anti-griefing and piracy itself will be a difficult profession. So those players looking to **** and crap on "the sandbox" are better off here, where they can somewhat still get away with it.

lol wut.
I don't fly Nano, don't participate in FW. I build and use Thorax's to Solo-PVP when the mood strikes and i build ships FOR the people that fly in FW, i say this because I ship a godly amount of Rifters from Nourvukaiken on a regular basis. I can only assume they're going to faction warfare with Tama next door.
I mentioned Level 4 balance and the Nano Nerf as points that CCP are having major issues with coherance, even though I run Level 4s... doesn't mean i think they're faultless.
Once again, not part of Faction Warfare. Kinda obvious since this is my main, I did have an alt i was going to train for FW, but I couldnt be bothered once i realised you can't train two chars at the same time on one account. Reprocessing that Alt was disturbing.
Your over-analysis is astounding, but Sherlock Holmes you aint.

Okay so your taking offense to the nano nerf even though you dont fly nanoships. For the most part you either flew it or you didnt, those that didn't for the most part hated them. I haven't heard many people say that they have a problem with the nanonerf if they don't fly them. I'm sure most of t hose that didn't really complain much didn't in order to avoid ****ing off corp mates and alliance members that were pronano.
Then again nanoships were broken. A lot of people will never admit that. But im sure 99.99% of them will chime in on how L4s are "broken" yet never come out with a decent argument against them.
So the question is how does someone have a problem with ccp fixing something that was CLEARLY broken like nanos but at the same time have a problem with L4s? Especially when theres no decent arguments supporting the idea that L4s are even broken.
