Buut ah well 500$ is like 2 euro these days.

So there, to everyone who said that plastic models could be produced cheaply. But I guess if they're high enough quality it'd be worth owning one. That Tempest does look nice... although can we get a higher-res picture of these?

Dammit, I don't want battleships. I want the T2 frigates as paintable, assembleable models. ;)
Although it'd also be fun to build a Vexor.
Pretty cool stuff, though. I don't fly BSes, so meh. I hope they expand the lineup and make some that you can assemble yourself and/or paint.

I'm about sure of not, because when somebody is selling a GTC, that card is purchased in the first place, so CCP get's money from GTC money. If these models were to be bought by isk, CCP would have no profit on it, and it only would cost them.

Why not do a little research and start out selling the ships most used in the game?
Would be great to own an Assault Frig, or maybe a Heavy Assault Cruiser....but a Battleship? I have over 40mil sp and I think I own a Domi somewhere that I never fly.
So 120ish bucks for a plastic model of a ship I don't care about and probably a huge chunk of eve doesn't even fly?
Why does this remind me of the Navy Raven contract scams in Jita?

I'm pretty sure "faction" means Caldari Gallente, Amarr, Minimatar. Not Navy or state or pirate faction.

That's awesome for everyone here who is rich but...
Because I'm incredibly fussy for that kind of price.
- Dettachable and reattachable to the stand please so you can look at it as it should be when you want to before setting it back on for display.
- It best have a large portion of it's componants made from metal.
- Please don't pull the replace the $ sign for a euro or a ú sign routine, it's bad enough us over the pond will have to find someway to get them shipped over. But no way am I paying ú496.96 for a navy edition plastic model. There would come a day where I may accidently sit or step on it and break it's tank.

$125 sounds high until you figure in that they're 1. resin and 2. preassembled/ prepainted. Given that it's about right IMO.
Would kinda prefer an unassembled kit though.

I think $100 would of been a good price. We will have to see how good the packaging is (is it impressive in itself) Then i spose they could add a small booklet of notable (fictional rp) engagements the said ship has been involved in. And ofc the quality of the model (looks good from photos).
Done well it could warrant the price and make good gifts for any avid eve fan.

That, and if you do a good job it seems to mitigate the dork factor a little bit: Sci- fi -10 pts, grown man with toy -6 pts, good with tools +5 pts, patience/ attention to detail +3 pts, has a hobby that doesn't involve hypodermic needles or killing stuff +2 pts.

Note that there's still a massive penalty involved with building a WH40K army.
A penalty beyond having to endure a table top session of WH40K?

Because I'm incredibly fussy for that kind of price.
- Dettachable and reattachable to the stand please so you can look at it as it should be when you want to before setting it back on for display.
- It best have a large portion of it's componants made from metal.
- Please don't pull the replace the $ sign for a euro or a ú sign routine, it's bad enough us over the pond will have to find someway to get them shipped over. But no way am I paying ú496.96 for a navy edition plastic model. There would come a day where I may accidently sit or step on it and break it's tank.
hi, im a collector of different models and such.
first point, they will likely come off the stands, small slot and peg system on the belly of the ship will allow this.
second point, no, not metal, RESIN, metal models would run you significantly more money. They are called collectors items for a reason, they appeal to a very small group. Metal models likely be 3-5 times as much each.
third point- conversion is easy, but regardless, the 496 is for all FOUR battleships, they are 125 a piece, and if your a collector, or serious fan, that is perfectly reasonable. Maybe not to you, but then, you may not be used to collecting these types of things.
Also, don't step on it, easy, it should stay on a desk, shelf, or, in the rare case that you have many things like them (/me looks away innocently) a display case

If I order it and it gets sent from the US will I not get stung with huge tax charges? Last time i ordered a dvd from the US it got held and I had to pay tax and other charges that doubled the price of the thing.
Also, given the size and weight surely the US postal charges will be substantial? Like $30+
I know you are tight with WW now but surely given by far your biggest market is in Europe would it not have made more sense to get these things shipped from Europe?

The fail in this flame comes from the fact that basement dwellers can have anything delivered at home, as they are always there, whereas socially functioning people in full time employment may well need to rely on PO Boxes as they cannot receive personal mail at work, and will have no-one at home to receive the package. For these prices, the only ship I might consider buying would be the Maelstrom.

US$1000 is only about 10Bn ISK at current GTC exchange rates (where a 60-day GTC costs US$36 and sells for 360m ISK). Would be nice if you could buy store credits from other players with ISK, it'd give me something to save for.

The price is a little high for a plastic kit (think Revell), unless of course it's cast in resin (think Forgeworld), then it's actually releatively cheap.
$125 is around €90, plus shipping (which could be a lot). Currently it would be a pain to import that, with tax, etc. From 1 december 2008, the amount you can import will rise to 150 euro (atleast here in the Netherlands). That should make buying the single ships more attractive.
Maybe an enterprising EVE player will buy the set of four faction ships and sell them at $200 each (would make it less then €150).

According to the preliminary page on it, its a solid resin foundation with die-cast components, ie.. turrets i expect.
With that in mind, and the apparent scale of around 15", they're pretty good value if you just buy one. the $499 set is a bit steep, even if i convert that to GBP. But hey, I guess I can only afford T1 in real life as well as on EVE.

$125 is around Ç90, plus shipping (which could be a lot). Currently it would be a pain to import that, with tax, etc. From 1 december 2008, the amount you can import will rise to 150 euro (atleast here in the Netherlands). That should make buying the single ships more attractive.
Maybe an enterprising EVE player will buy the set of four faction ships and sell them at $200 each (would make it less then Ç150).
Bare in mind production runs & quantities between these specialist models & a company like Revell or Airfix. $125 is pretty reasonable for a large model. I'll be getting 1. Maybe 2

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 29/08/2008 10:15:14 Having looked at the better pictures on the China site, I will probably not bother unless the price drops. The comparison pics to the in-game models in particular highlight the lack of detail. They look like plastic toys. Ç100 once got me a model of the Highwind which was solid metal and a lot more detailed than these. They may be large, but all that is going to do on a low detail model is emphasise how low detail they are.
Nonetheless I hope they sell well and more are produced.
Edit: The Raven seems to have fared better in this regard, I think the Mega's detailing is too subtle for a model of this quality, not to mention that the Caldari are the favorite race :p -

Just a note, that for some of us not in the US, we will be paying customs and VAT on those. So add 17.5% for those in UK + fedex admin fee, and add 21% + fedex admin fee for those in the Ireland.

Is there a limit (and do you know what it is) before customs and/or VAT are added to imports in Ireland? Nothing I've imported from America has had added charges, but I've never even broken $50 in one order. -

"Gifts from one private individual to another up to the value of Ç45 and commercial shipments up to Ç22 are usually exempt from VAT and Duty. "
Having bought lots of gear from the US to Ireland, fedex doesn't miss a beat on collection, and usually you have to pay COD or Credit Card to fedex before they will deliver.
USPS (United States Postal Service) Have a fantastic record of timely delivery and link to An Post perfectly every time. As a result of this though, customs may be overlooked from time to time :)
DHL are the same as fedex requiring advance payment of duty before delivery.

Ah, thanks for the info. All my more expensive stuff came via USPS, that's probably why I've avoided charges even though I've certainly had orders over Ç22 that didn't pretend to be gifts.

This is what makes me feel that after initially laying down ú70 plus another potential ú50 C&E Duty, plus FedEx admin fees?...
Even though we're in the UK with the current exchange rate, these will translate to about ú150-ú200 for one model over here. If not more.
IMO that'll probably lead to a bit of buyers remorse.
I mean for that money I can buy a model helicopter/plane that I can actually fly around...
Curious as to what the damage will actually be on these concerning Admin Charges and C&E Duty.

The price isn't to bad actually, after currency conversion (and adding a generous dollop of taxes) it's still quite reasonable at Ç105 (minus shipping, but plus 19% local VAT) I've paid considerably more for Forgeworld models less than half those things' size. And those were unpainted too.

You've brought it to battle... now bring it home.
The Caldari Raven has proven to be an excellent warship against most any class of opponent. Its look is typical Caldari, bearing the signature red band and near-featureless panels on its asymmetrical body. With a heavy arsenal of launchers and exceptional defensive ability, the Raven makes for a formidable ship to face in combat.
For fans and collectors alike
The EVE Online Battleship Models are constructed from a solid resin foundation and are mounted, ready for display, on a base emblazoned with the associated faction logo. The meticulous reproduction of EVE Online's ships is achieved through a combination of plastic detailing, cast metal components, and hand painted accents. The end result is a striking replica of the very ships soaring through space in New Eden.

Assuming a cost of 300 UKP, importing to the UK will attract VAT at 17.5%(around 52 quid), customs fees (toys are around 10% I think, might be higher or lower, so around 30 quid) so we're looking at, after 8 quid fees from Royal Mail, of around 90 quid in fees... although I'm not sure if they'll take the postage off before working them out or not - I included an approximate 30 quid in postage in the above.
I make that a rough cost of close on 400 quid in the UK for the 4.
Customs allow packages under 18 pounds through without fees (double that to 36 if it's marked "gift", although faking the customs label will land you both in trouble (Federal offence in US)).
I've bought from the US quite a bit and that rule causes all kinds of fun.
Buying from europe doesn't attract the same problems, if I recall (might have just been lucky though).
Hope that helps.

Been drooling over these all day at work :)
Definitely getting 4 (1 of each)
Still undecided atm cause of the differnce with the colors on the mega and apoc.
Even the premium client the navy mega is black, I can see it eventually getting changed.. If they make the faction Vindicator.. why make 2 black megas? (always wondered about that ingame)
So I can go with that.. but the faction Apoc is reddish if I recall correctly.. and the Amarr are all about being bright and shiny with their Holiness and all. (think theres something about that in the navy apoc disc) So I cant see where the navy apoc would ever be dark :/ Then theres all the detail lines on the regular mega.. Which puts me on the fence getting the Navy set vs 4 reg ones.
That being said.. I cant wait to get a set at my front door .. no matter the differnces they friggen ROCK. These babies are going next to my limited edition pewter Dragons :)

Otherwise, nice. Expected price for such big models.
also pretty fail that they are selling a camo'd out version of a megathron and trying to pass it off as a "Navy Mega"... _____________________

TBH, Gallente Navy faction ships have had a borked up colour scheme in-game anyway. The Vex and Exequror are coloured as I think the whole range should be, but the Comet and Mega are still Black/White, and the Deimos has the same fricking colour scheme as the Navy Issue cruisers.
1) Give the Comet and Mega camo schemes 2) Give the Deimos Duvolle Labs' golden/silver colour scheme and not a Navy scheme.
Without changing it in-game, those models are technically not Navy Megas. IMHO it needed to be changed in-game anyway, so why not do it and not get in trouble for false advertising?
Also, your Fleet Tempest needs fixing.
Will still get the regular Mega though.

Ahh, yeah. No. You'll still get custom'ed if it goes across the border to Canada. I doubt there'll be any -duty- (extra taxes that the free trade agreememnt works agains) but if Canada Customs and Border Services (yeah. that's their real name) decides to look at it you'll get tagged with any applicable sales taxes in your province. So you'll pay the GST and whatever PST is still owed.

Anyone else thinking of buying one just to have a great base resin model to go to town on with the paints? I know I am.
I wanna more windows and more true to game colours. I'm confident I might be able to do a decent job of it.
Proportion wise they are all very accurate apart from the tempest as far as I can see which came off a looking a lot shorter and fatter due to the pertruding beams at the front being pretty noticably shorter and smaller.
What to the people with experience say? Is it ok to apply an overcoat on these things when they're already painted?

As long as you know what type of paint the original is done, it's not hard to do a repaint. Would have to test different thinners to see what reacts with it, then I'd just spray over with a good sealing base coat. Though the original paintjobs do look to be pretty well done, so most people here will end up with a lesser quality result. I wonder though if these are production pieces? or prototypes?
Honestly, when I saw "Models", I was thinknig of something in a kit form or something like that. Not what I was hoping for, I'll be passing on these and just building my own like originally planned. They look well sculpted and all...
And solid cast resin, no wonder they are so pricey. 3 pounds for the Raven, yikes! And given the shaping, I can see the Raven and Tempest suffering from a good number of short-casts. I just hope they are getting them molded properly, I'd hate to see these things full of pinholes.

Actually, if you read my post above that you quoted I DID see the pics on the web site, and they are NOT high res. They are 700x700 pixels. And they only have one angle shot of each ship.
Asking for 5 images in a HIGH resolution is NOT too much to ask for an item I am buying. Normally I'd just search the net and find some. For any other retail item, there would be hundreds, if not thousands of pics. But seeing as this is a brand new item that is hitting a very niche segment of members who play a very niche game, it's not too much to ask.
I mean really. All they have to do, is grab a drop cloth( a white sheet), put it on a pedestal of some sort(a large fileing cabinet works) and use another drop cloth held up by someone else to take some shots of it with a decent high res camera(Something 6 megapixels or higher would work fine, and are easy to find). Post those in the "more Images" part for each ship that's in the EVE Store that has other photo's of each item. I mean hell. It says "More Images".. Plural..
I mean, they're just pictures. They're easy to get, and easy to upload. You can't even see the Raven/CNR well from the angle they show it. It's probobly take 30 mins, and it'd be done.
I don't think it was asking for much. Personally, when buying something that is a "sculpture/art" I'd rather be able to see it in greater detail. Hell, I was even polite and said Please at the end of my post. This is something I've been waiting for for a long time. But the Devil is in the Details.

great idea, for models are fun to have. but for the size that they are and detail amount and such, for that price its not worth it to me.i would pay say, 40 USD or 60 USD for it, somewhere in there, but not 130 USD. thats just a rip off.
same goes for the empyrean age book. i wont in my right mind pay for a novel 24 USD. not in my right mind. a good novel of any kind only gose for anything less then 10 USD.
anyway, thats my rant.

Seeing these models sitting on their own stands is one thing but there is no indication of scale nor any dimensions to tell you how big they are in the original pics before the store went live with them.
CCP, put something we know the size of (someone's hand or something) in the foreground of the pic so it shows the scale of these. Giving the size in CM is not really telling us how big they are, Imagination doesn't work that well.
LOL, I'd have laughed myself silly if people paid megabucks and found they were only 2 inches in length.
Edit: Having said that, I will wait and see if they go down in price, they are way too expensive for me, I'm not that much of a fanatic about Eve. |

No, they're not correct for Mauraders either. One person suggested that they're supposed to be the ships the NPC faction rats use. If that's the case it's still a mistake since their advertisement suggested that we can fly them in the game.

No, it still looks like the paintjob on the 'navy' mega doesn't correspond to any ingame version, T1, T2 or NPC or NPC pirate faction.
I'm still holding out for unpainted versions so I can get the black/steel look of the navy mega myself if I have to. The so-calle Minmatar Navy Tempest (doesn't even sound right does it) doesn't have the correct wingy bits, and basicly confirms the navy set is just the same set painted differently.
If the fix this (I hope so) thenI guess these early mistakes will become even more collectable - for people who just want to profit. They are no good if you are looking for your own fave navy BS.
Why didn't they start this enterprise with $20-$50 range priced frigates and cruisers????? $10 drones would be nice too. I guess they figure that the $50+ on FedEx shipping puts a damper on that. :(

If we can get confirmation the models will be correct (the correct sails on the tempest, the correct paint job on the mega, and that the other ships have the correct design and paint job for the fleet issue) then I will buy them. Not before that.

tbh thats my deciding factor too.
if they are right, cool. if no, tell me then i may just buy the normal one. but i'm not going to order anything till i'm sure of what i'm getting. its not a ton of money, but enough i'm not gonna gamble on opening the box and sayin 'wtf is this shit?' ------------------------------ "whining and crying for nerfs and boosts aint' no way to go through life son!" |

exactly :) if they were cheaper I wouldnt be so bothered so much but because of the price tag I just want to be sure im going to get what I expect. Who knows maybe the delay is that they are getting them sorted I sure hope so because a full set of fleet faction models would look sweet on my desk :)

We can only hope these are the expensive early released products, soon to be followed by the cheaper and smaller ships. Please give us more models!

Yes! I put my order in on the weekend the store was updated, and my order is still at the 'Payment Pending' stage.
I've sent two emails to the Eve Store customer support people but recieved no response whatsoever. I'm getting worried...
At least it's not just me though.

Ok, ya, I'm PUMPED!!!
I've been wanting these damn things since EVE launched. I honestly thought they would make cheap'o plastic 5" mini ships on stands. However Resin?! Prepainted!? Preassembled?! AND THEY ARE HEAVY!!! I'm buying all 8 :D
I hope they sell all of them and make more. I can create an EVE fleet of model ships!
For those of you who want to assemble and paint them yourselves. Ya not everyone knows how to do that. I have zero artistic talent. I MUST have things made professional otherwise it's not a good enough quality level. These ships are HUGE and given their size, make, and price. Worth every penny. --------------
