i remember last time the patch went over there estimated time so
first it was 17:00 gmt Now 19:00 gmt
We get told last miniute about this which is normal for patch updates now as always someone argues about how much money we pay to play the game if i was to count how many times these guys have done this over patch updates i would be owed about 2 weeks of subscription
Sort your patches out

I bloody agree. If their tech guys are too stupid that they can't get the patch up and running in the promised time, there should be a penalty on CCP. We are essentially being lied to. Or was that part of the EULA somewhere? "we promise not to complain to any of the BS stuff that CCP implements"

seriously we expect patches to take longer so we put longer skills on but still that dont matter they say patch updates form 11:00 gmt - 17:00 gmt
Not 11:00 gmt - 19:00gmt till the last min and no reason as to why they have done this

There's a few things CCP does that irk the hell out of me, this nerfing/buffing thing being chief among them. (Otherwise known as "let's change the rules mid-game after everyone has already spent their time/money adapting to the last set of rules.)
Still, I have to give them credit on a few things. One is that the game is much more stable then it was a year ago, the other is with this "patch" process. You're talking about a lot of code here. I'm no expert, but I'm not sure anyone could be held to a hard ETiC when putting it on the main servers for the first time.

Give me one game that's ever been completely on-time with their patches. Even WoW has had one or two run overtime. Don't like it? Then go play something else. And be thankful that this wasn't the Scars of Velious release for EQ1. How about 23 hours downtime, then another six and a half after that? Some of y'all wold lose your flippin' minds with that one! |

Meh, I'd rather have it delayed and working than rushed and screwed up, remember all the screaming and hollering over not enough QA on patches that CCP had to roll back becuase they didnt take thier time and test.

Why can`t they start patching earlier in the day, in case of problems like these? ---

the down times are probably based on the lowest server use within the CCPs normal work hours. They need time after opening shop to do meetings, brief whats going to happen and finalize the plans.

It's pretty harsh on CCP to criticize them about extending the downtime. I'd rather they take a bit longer to get the issues resolved. It's not like they have an exact duplicate test environment. They probably have a subset test environment and even then they can't anticipate every possible issue. it's stressful enough to patch or upgrade a production system the way they are doing it, without the user group being so harsh. If you ready your EULA, I'm sure it states that they have the right to have the system down whenever and they don't guarantee Five 9's uptime 99.999%.. uptime is only time that a system is guaranteed up, and does not include scheduled down times. :) I'd prefer CCP focus on the LAG a little more myself.

I thought emo's were only allowed to play WoW. Even Hello Kitty has a no-emo clause in their EULA. |

Last time they had extended downtime for patching they were on line actually earlier than their announcment! |

Have you ever, just once, tried to apply a patch to a system asn detailed and complex as the EVE network and database?
I doubt it, because if you had, you would understand that just becasue a patch made it past QA and should be ready to go, that doesn't mean that it will work exactly right the first time.
And the fact that this slight delay in getting the server up bothers you so much, shows the lack of substance in your life. This is a flying spaceship game for pete sake. Go outside and play with your poor dog that would normally be sitting whining at his food dish because you can't be bothered to be away from eve for more than an hour a day.
Better yet...go play wow....EVE will be better without you.

This might be a dumb question but - why dont they start a bit earlier in the morning.. say 08:00?? surely that would stop so many peeps getting REALLY PIS*ED OFF during the peak periods when they are late (which they always are btw).

The time is always going to be just perfectly the wrong time for someone. There are players all around the world after all.
