Wow, that was rather tame and derived, hell, he missed out on all the blatantly easy rips at the community through the forums and instead went for the clichTd spotty nerd angle.
His rips at the game itself were pretty pants too, damn, if he'd only learnt more to give eve an awesome thrashing

The trouble is, when you sell out like he has, your opinion no longer carries any true worth. So now we know he can bought, who is to say that he cannot be bought by, say EA Games etc?
Virgin Media doesn't make or publish video games (sells games in their store but you didn't say if he was plugging them). So what about taking a job doing voiceovers for them is "selling out"?
Eve review as amusing, and its fair to say that a new player facing Eve often does have the same experience, but going it alone is definately "doing it wrong". That's a failing of his whenever he has to deal with games in a genre he doesn't like or understand, knows he's not going to "get it", and rips into it anyway. Even then there's usualy some poignent validity behind all the ranting and raving.

The Trial period for this game is terrible and lets you experience practically nothing of EVE. I don't really blame him for that review.

Neither of those apply, meaning you dont understand the concept of 'selling out'. He takes a job with The Escapist, fine. He claims to give honest, realistic reviews, fine. He claims to be the truth in a world of lies .. fine.
However, the second he starts to promote something like Virgin where the words are written for him he loses that integrity. Virgin hired him because he is a voice that many many game players and internet users will recognise, especially the youth generation. A sort of 'look he likes us, you will too, give us ya money'. But again, those words are written for him. Its not him speaking, but his bank balance.
He's just proven he CAN be bought if the price is right. Therefore any opinion that he previously held is cast into doubt. His honesty has dissapeared to be replaced by bucks.
THAT was my point about Zero.
I have no problem with hin reviewing Eve ... especially now I know that he hasnt got a clue about the game and obviously hes very very wrong to criticise it ... thats my job as I pay to play it.

Alright, annoing, I just watched this commercial you were referring to, and I must say: Are you even sure that's HIM? I only found one person on one forum trying to make this connection, and everyone else was trying to assure him that it's only a sound-a-like. I, for one, agree with that. Sure the voice in the commercial kinda sounds like Yahtzee, but it doesn't sound exactly like Yahtzee. The voice is definitely deeper.

He seemed to rag on the players a bit too much for someone who refused to interact with anyone else or join a corp. Funny, though.
The comercial people are referring to is likely this and the guy in it sounds like this guy.

Funny video but when you open it by saying "I know nothing of any of this stuff and can't be bothered to find out about it" (Or words to that effect) you really have to question just what the point of doing the video in the first place was.
I've never been a fan of his to be honest because I don't actually find him funny but this review really is no worse than any others and you can read a lot into what he DIDN'T talk about, no mention of the player run economy or PvP or extremely detailed crafting system (Compared to most other games at least) or the fact that when things happen they STAY happened. Speaks volumes about those things really if he couldn't say anything bad about them.
Edit- Also, I'd just like to point out that almost ANYTHING read in that sort of monotone voice at that speed will sound incredibly intelligent and right to most people so that's a bit of a trick really. Imagine if you read all of what he said on a forum for example and you'd see what I mean.

... but yeah, Bill Hicks had the take on advertising. The second you sell out your artistic integrity for advertising, you lose all credibility.
To be fair the majority have taken to his review quite favourably, so really you point doesnt hold up to well.

Well, he was funny for a couple of episodes then it just got repetitive. But thats probably just me.

Actually, I removed the link because I knew i had got it wrong ....
However, following the link for the commcercial, I think its reasonable to claim it is him as, while the voice lacks its usual manic edge, the style is exactly the same, zero punctuation... thats why hes got that tag isnt it? I dont think its the guy from Green Wing cos the style is so different to his usual style which is laid back and laconic.

sure, its hard to laugh at the same joke week in, week out, but it can't be healthy when someone reacts like that after a reviewer says he doesn't care for the mmo they play. it's nearly as funny as when people claim that the feature 'sold out' as if it used to be some counter-culture gonzo journalism shit

Bah. Yahtzee's reviews aren't mean to be taken seriously. He does and is pay for them to be funny. but a 2 week trial isn't even remotely close to the problems eve has. And all he does is take the cliched nerd approach to almost any game he reviews, and it's started to become annoying.

Yeah, I usually watch his stuff and this one I dont entirely agree with... Heres why.
He usually shows games from the prespective of a"noob"or"casual gamer", both of which should never EVER review eve because you dont see enough of the game, especially because he sat in an npc corp all day and then decided to get on some of the less preferable parts of these forums.
The game is becoming more mainstream but there are still aspects about the game that make it totally different then games such as wow, he just didnt see them.

If you ask me his review is pefect - the only reason any of you disagree is the fact you have spent far mroe then 14days playing EVE! I my self started doin 15hr days when not working to play EVE grind a little isk buy ships & what not.
3yrs later many billions richer with + SP over two / 3 accounts, I do look back & think wow how right he is about EVE.
Looking back tho I had nothing else that replaced or gave me the same feeling that eve has given me so I would not change it met many friends along the way & such sadly I am now burned out & onto SPORE I shall go! It has been fun :) perhaps Il be back when EVE turns into a RTS or sumthing different then the slow boring lag fest it is now.
p.s Its the gave everything twice as much health made combat so much slower that has killed off eve. How I miss the fun you could have with a AF in low sec.
