EDIT: Hahaha, that was pretty much what I was expecting. Though for a minute there I was thinking the UI was going to escape the bashing, but Yahtzee still delivered.

I was awaiting the newest zero punctuation today, but it didn't show up will late.
Imagine my surprise when i see it to be EVE, as i had previously mentioned that it might be cool for him to review the game.
I'm not entirely surprised with his view as it's pretty similar to that of my friends who've only played the trial and thought "WAH?! I can't powergrind my way through it playing 12 hours a day and become uber pwnzor of the universe?!?!"
Although i do like his "You must be this cool to use this stuff" analogy.

Edited by: P''uck on 03/09/2008 16:33:26 He was pretty accurate in pointing out the weak spots. But obviously he has no clue about eve AND he sucks at it.
You can tell, because if he knew the game he could have bashed it MUCH better. (edit: and thus providing more and better funsies)

I've played Eve for five years. I love the game... it's pretty much become part of my life in a sense.
I feel kind of strange that I can't disagree with what he's saying, and he does have a point when he says that Eve is no different from most other MMOs apart from the fact it's hosted on one shard.
Sadly he is right, Eve is becoming more and more "mainstream" every day, purely because any company in it's right mind will follow a good business model over pure player enjoyment.
I do however feel the review was a bit off in the case of content. If he's not going to join a corporation, and spend two weeks mission running and mining solo in empire, he's only seeing around 1% of what the game has to offer. This doesn't leave me surprised that he went away with a negative experience.

Heh, if you've watched his videos previously you'll know his reviews aren't meant to be taken seriously, they're mainly for entertainment. If you can't laugh at the flaws he pointed out, then you really shouldn't be watching his reviews.

Can't agree more.
He didn't talk about PVP, wich is the most important part of EVE imho. Also he didn't talk about the things that a unsharded server brings to a community. And I believe the EVE background story one of its big plusses.

He's not wrong, but the game requires enormous amounts of patients and since the majority of his reviews are of faster paced games its not odd to understand why he feels this way.
The shear sense of loss and gain in a game shadows no other, when uknow what ur doing pvp is greatly enjoyable. That said il assume he'd prolly think im trying to justify the shear volume of time i put into the game. Awell, he is dead on though. Eve is shit in the begining.

Unfortunately hits the mark with some things. Good job he didn't play long enough to experience being ecm cycle jammed.
I imagine the line would be
"I Mean F**K even Wow does not drop to the abyss of bad game mechanics as being beaten on well you sit there waiting for a inferior tosser in a pathetic ship scratch ur hull away with a tea spoon well waiting for 9 of his friends in equally small and pathetic ships to arrive and join in with tea spooning you to death"
CCp should be concerned about this review though. I and many many many many of my friends have avoided games because of a zero punctuation episode about it. They don't so much as give a accurate account of the game. But if you watch 1 and then play the game. the flaws he has pointed out are all of a sudden very obvious and much more annoying than they would have been.
Other wise a very funny review

As soon as I saw that just now, I came over here to see if the EVE forum defensive formations were building up yet, and it looks like I was right to assume that people are already denouncing Yahtzee.
Oh, and he did talk about PVP in his summary of combat.

wow, okay I didnt even think people on this forum would react like this, seriously, watch the others of his reviews, they're more or less all like this, thats the gimmick of it and thats why most people watch it, to listen to an angry british guy degrading a game as much as possible...as he's said himself, hes a critic. ---------------------------------------------- I like to loot it loot it |

As Zero Punctuation is the new voice of Virgin Media adverts on UK tele he has no right to criticise anything. Hes 'a sell out' wazzock.
The trouble is, when you sell out like he has, your opinion no longer carries any true worth. So now we know he can bought, who is to say that he cannot be bought by, say EA Games etc?

So what clued you in on Yahtzee "selling out"? Was it when he got that more-professional introduction to his review show, or was it way back when he was first hired by the Escapist and boarded their ship made of money, the S.S. Sellout?

Edited by: Maitsu on 03/09/2008 18:26:02 Yahtzee is a member of somethingawful (a goon) thats probably why he's so terrible at this game.
The recruitment thread he's referring to on game forums is the one at SA where goons whine about eve.

LOL, it makes me laugh how usually the guy is seen as the best thing since sliced bread, telling it exactly like it is, socking it to the man. Until he criticises Eve and then he's a total tosser!
... but yeah, Bill Hicks had the take on advertising. The second you sell out your artistic integrity for advertising, you lose all credibility.
