I am gonna get a BS for some PvP action. I usually fly cruisers, but I got the economy to fund a T2 fitted Rokh.
Any good suggestion on layout?
Go for short range blasters or long range rails?
Active or buffer tank?

Edited by: Teimur Leng on 11/09/2008 00:39:42 I love the blaster rokh but fitting the mid slots can be challenging. Make sure you have an MWD and if you can fly with a tackler then you're gold.
Here's my setup (requires a tackler to web and point)
[Rokh, Blasters] Damage Control II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Power Diagnostic System II Power Diagnostic System II
Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Heavy Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 800 Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Booster II Quad LiF Fueled I Booster Rockets

Core Defence Field Extender I Core Defence Field Extender I Core Defence Field Extender I
Hammerhead II x5 (or use valk II's , or whatever you want..hammmerheads give the best dps but target resistances are a factor).
Overloading the invulfields / shield booster if you are under heavy fire can give a nice boost to your tank, and without overloading that gives 131k effective hp and 800+ dps.
http://cantstoptherokh.ytmnd.com/
I once had to at times disable mwd once the target is webbed and in range to get more cap regen due to 25% increased cap size once you disable mwd...but usually it works fine..for a bit :)

Personaly i would buffer the P!$$ out of it.
8x neutron blaster II/ Navy antimatter
100mn MWD II Disruptor II Web II or invuln field II (if in fleet) Med cap booster II / 800s invuln field II Large shield extender II
3x Magstab II 1x PDS II 1x Damage control II
3x field extender riggs
5x Hammerhead II
I have advance weapon upgrade to 5 plus the implants that give bonuses to fittings.

you need a mwd without it this setup is kind of useless (hint: it won't fit :D) edit: oh and you're better off with exteneders rigs but i like to keep my battleship cost efficient. Secondly, note I have null, these goes to 30 km on a rokh.
Thirdly, you don't Mix Active tank with Passive tank with only 4 slots to tank.
Move to forth, I am considering Small gang(>5) or solo.
When I fit my ship, I have survive and win in mind, rather than "cheap to lose".
It does fit with AWU 5 and support skills to 5. (unless my EFT is outdated)
If you still have any questions just ask, i ll try my best to answer your doubts.

I don't uderstand your comment about pvp and pve. Secondly you won't fit a mwd even with awu 5 to your setup. Yes you can mess it with resist rigs cause a second invu doesn't give enough benefits over an extender. Web is useless at 30 km range (33 to be acurate). You need a mwd in a small gang to reaproche the gate or use a cloak mwd trick. And from my expierience without that eccm you will die to a similiar gang but with a ecm ship. Seems you are still trying to grab the concept, it is fine. First let's compare amp and one more invul, PvP is unpredictable, which makes it more fun than PvE, you can not be sure that you WILL have the cap for boosting, With one more invul, you can stay alive for another few seconds - these few seconds are what others pay billions and billions for.
mwd is a must with mega, why? course it does not have the range bonus, mega must fight at point blank range. Some people, (mostly amarr battleships) don't fit mwd as the weapon range is fine and most of the battleship fights starts in webrange, (if you are speaking about trillion nano-mach, you do not belong here) mwd does not stand for mendatory for battleship class ships. (not saying i did not fit a mwd in my original fits abovem and you kept imaging i did and saying that IT WON'T FIT!! please give it up)
And teh tricks you talking about there are for extreme small gangs (<3) or small ships, certainly not a 10 man battleship gang.
At the end you were mentioning about eccm, to be honest, the size of gang you are talking about is too large, you should use a fleet fit for that.
Also, your original set up is a bit meh.
Did my post shine any light on you? or you are still confused? Please don't hesitate to ask me further.

Ii is almost funy to read your posts. I lost a dozen of rokhs before coming up with the setup I posted. And what is suprising I stoped dying after that.
The mwd is mandatory realy cause null is not the ammo for everyday use. it is the ammo to use when closing up on target. Then you are better off with cn antimatter or void. You don't need the web (you have a gang remeber ? others should have it) BUT you need the eccm.
About the shield boost amp. I was finding it better than your rigs that you put that are totaly fubar. Use resist rigs or extender rigs the other are useless. "No plan has ever survived the contact with the enemy" von Moltke |

Quad LiF Fueled I Booster Rockets Warp Disruptor II Stasis Webifier II Balmer Series Targeting Inhibitor I, Optimal Range Disruption Balmer Series Targeting Inhibitor I, Optimal Range Disruption Heavy Capacitor Booster II, Cap Booster 800

Hammerhead II x5
Those TD's are what keep you alive 1v1 against another blaster ship, load null, orbit at 12-14km and let rip, only blaster ship that is able to hit you is another similar Rokh :) Against Amarr/Matar it doesn't work as well, because of the insane ranges their shortrange guns do...
I've managed to beat both Maelstrom & Tempest on SISI 1v1 tho, both fights ended with me on deep hull :)

Why the hell would you fit an extender? SBA or invul will be WAAAAAAAAY more helpful. No web=fail. Rokh absolutely doesnt need MWD...maybe for a sniper setup or 0.0 fleets, but not small gangs.... waste of a slot.

No RR in a RR gang is asking for your teammates to hurt you. I would go Raven if you wanna go RR gang though.
If you must use the rokh for RR gangs, remove 1 or 2 guns, and fit RR.

No, your rokh will not win, it will lose.
He has better resists, so you wont be doing as much damage, he is doing more damage because you have crappy resists, and he has neutrons while you have ions. Your however many more shields you have will easily be melted faster than you can rep it.
Even if all else fails and the pilot your fighting is horrid and forgets to boost, you wont be able to kill him, BECAUSE YOU LACK BOTH POINT + WEB!

Thats an even worse gang setup. You need Neutrons on the Rokh.
I dont know why you are calling me the moron, when you challenged a guy to a 1v1 with your setup vs his.... and then say it will win. When i pointed out its flaws you call it a gang setup.

Edited by: Rajere on 13/09/2008 00:09:12 If you're the same rokh pilot i'm thinking of (Final Stand), you should know a corp mate of mine got so depressed after seeing how well your rokh performed vs how well his maelstrom does, considering the mael is supposed to be THE active shield tank bs.
Quote: True that it has no RR, it's more a "solo" version. For true RR-gang slap on 6 Neutron II's + 2 Large 'Solace' RRs :)
(Yes, it does FIT :p )
If you are in a remote armor rep BS gang, fly a scorpion. Armor tanked Raven/Rokh can't fit dmg mods, you'd be better off and do more for your gang flying a Drake. If you insist on a Raven/Rokh for RR BS gangs, you might as well just use a shield tank anyway. You'll be primaried regardless based on the assumption that you're shield tanked, your ehp with an armor tank doesn't have enough resists/buffer to survive under RRing anyway, and 1300 dps for 10 seconds is better than 500 dps for 15. Even if you can be kept up with reps you're just wiping out your fleet's cap/cap charges reserve, so when you do go down (you're the only one with any cap left) so does everyone else. A drake will do more DPS than armor tanked caldari BS, and you won't get targetted until all your BS's are dead.

If you'd like you can swap one of the cap boosters a webber if you want to go solo with this, not very capfriendly though, but meh.
Should be noted that I have never flied a caldari ship nor have used hybrids and therefore don't know if this would even work.

Remote repper instead of a 3rd mag stab in my eyes could be worth it.

Why does everyone propose to use blasters, the rokh will always be inferiour to a Megathron when using blasters, just think of the Megathron's damage and tracking bonus and the larger drone bay, which allows to use heavy drones.
If i'd ever use a Rokh that would be a sniper Rokh with 3-4 mag. field stabs, 2 sensor boosters with target range skripts, and 8x 425mm rails with spike ammo. That's what the ship is made for imo, and not close combat.

blaster rokh is not inferiour to mega, rokh has 1 more turret and can fit 3-4 dmg mods while out tanking the mega,

With the Mega's damage bonus it has 8,75 effective turrets, but most important it has a 37.5% tracking bonus, wich is not stacking penalized against tracking modules.
I'm not a gunnery expert, but isn't tracking a crucial factor, if you fight at blaster ranges ? This make up a lot, depends on how important that is. And finally 5 heavy drones deal quite a bit more dps than 5 mediums. The shield resistance bonus is of course a solid advantage, but a mwd and a web are a must on a blaster ship, and people might like to fit a scrambler and a sensor booster aswell, after that there won't be much tank left on the Rokh.
I'd still prefer the Mega for blasters, especially because of the tracking bonus.

FFS when does the forum stop eating my post.
Anyway allthough you can solo in a rokh, it really shines in gangs. Then you can let others do the tackling, and use those extra mid slots for a tank that a mega wont come near. Megas usually dont have and full tackling gear and sensor booster (mwd web scram injector normally).
And a rokh can easily shoot at 20km distance, a mega not that easy.
They both got advantages and disadvantages, but rokh certainly has its uses.

Since I prefer keeping my fittings for myself I will not go into detail, but will give you some numbers to think about.
My Rokh has a scrambler, web and Cap Booster fitted, deals arround 1010 dps and tanks arround 750 dps. Now show me the mega which can beat that (with just t2 mods).
edit: also your heavy drones can be killed quite easily and you will then deal arround 500 dps if when you have a decent tank fitted and maybe 700 when you are fitted for gank. If you kill my Rokh¦s med drones i am still at 860 dps while running a quite good tank.

1 or 2 heavy neuts help, and it isnt that easy to kill heavy drones at close range where he can just recall them.
But this kind of paperwar is a bit pointless imo.

Maby, but it givs a lot of folks a lot of indeas, and that eventually leads to refined and better setups. So its not a totla wast. I would like to see the setup mentioned earlier tho. Otherwise its just random numbers, and for all I know lies.

Well.. if you believe it or not that is up to you. But i spend a lot of time working out setups and testing them on the battlefield + I am making my ISK from shooting ppl. I have my reasons to keep my setups only to myself. The only ones I share my setups with are my corpm8s. There is no need for me to give any potential target an advice of how to fit his ship :P.

Paper wars work decently when you stay to general situations, not when you start countering specific ships during your paper war.
And why dont you give your setup for your rokh then? Or just plug it in eft and check what happens with your tankable dps when you got 1-2 heavy neuts on you.

And here you exactly state why i do not need to consider 1-2 heavy neuts on a mega i encounter. Why? because in my whole time in eve i did not see many megas flying arround with a neut fitted. No1 is gonna fly arround with a ship fitted just for a certain situation. When i play at your doorstep there might be a chance that you refit your mega for that situation. If you play at my doorstep i ll just deagress.. dock... swap to my apoc and laugh about your neuts.

This isn't accurate at all. I fly both ships and it is a simple fact that the Mega outdamages the Rokh with just guns fitted. On just the guns my Mega kicks out more then 1000 dps in a gank fit (3 magstabs, 3% implants).

k granted. i did not really check the exact amount of dps on the mega on certain fittings. But with 3 magstabs + full rack of neutrans (without implants) you deal turret 935 dps (when you have blaster spec to level 5 which most ppl do not bother to train.. for me every % extra is worth the time but not every1 is thinking like that).
Let¦s see what you have left now.
Enough PG and CPU to fit 2x1600mm Plate 1xdmg control 1xAdaptive nano Plating.
With 3 Trimarks you end up at having 97k EHP. Rokh easily gets the same amount of EHP + active tank @ arround 860 turret dps. Granted that the gank mega deals more damage then i stated 1st but if you let those 2 ships go against each other with those setups the Rokh will still win.
edit: just to point it out... i do not want to say the mega sucks. Or that the Rokh will allways win against a mega, but the Rokh definetly is one of the Few battleships which are a threat to a mega 1 on 1.

Of course you do more damage with the Mega, because even without drones it has 8,75 effective turrets with the damage bonus, compared to the 8 turrets of the Rokh, a fully gank fitted Mega will always outdamage a Rokh, and even more when you take the drone diffrence into account.
In the quoted statement someone compares the ships with diffrent modules. That's not very usefull, with that you can also say a drake deals more damage than a raven, just don't mention that you fit 4 ballistic controls on your ham drake and no ballistic controls on your cruise raven. For a fair comparison of ships the damage related modules, skills and implants must be the same.
I'd still like to hear from someone who did the maths on tracking, or have a decent gunnery expirience, how usefull the tracking bonus is at blaster ranges and what role it plays compared to medium range railgun fights.

The tracking surely gives you an advantage against any ship that is smaller than a BC.
Against BC and bigger it does not really matter.

I only quoted you because it is wrong to say the mega would have less damage.
The two ships can be set up in very similar ways with the Rokh obviously tending to be tankier and the mega gankier.
The Mega can also use slaves and then it is really the ultimate blaster ship with; more ehp then the rokh, bigger drone bay, more damage, better tracking and full tackle (slightly less range, but only slightly due to the tracking).
I like the rokh but it is held back slightly by its small dronebay, I never did understand why it didnt get 75m3.

just out of curiousity I took a look at my last 15 mega kills. 2 of them head fitted a heavy neut (and no none of them was buzzing arround in a fleet, they were all traveling arround solo through low sec)

Also remember that active tanks dont really mix well with MWD and blasters that well. Even with a cap booster.
and here we go again.. just to defend your point now we add more stuff to the discussion. Yes you can use slaves.. fine I can use a crystal set on my Rokh... cool eh?... i can also fit an estamels invul field and a gist-x type or pith x-type shield booster + officer damage mods and compare that to a t2 fitted mega.
The point is. T2 fitted Rokh > T2 fitted mega (compared 1vs1).. just slightly but thats the way it is. Then again in a fleet yes a mega is more useful because it can run a much better high hp buffer tank.
Rokh can scram/web + tank and gank all in one, while mega can only scram/web + tank or gank.. in many situations the gank fitting will still be able to take enough punishment to survive until the target blows up, but against a well fitted high skilled Rokh pilot you will lose.
