I don't know much of what was invented in EVE, other then what was said, but I can tell you what wasn't:
Carebear Kill missions, Courier Missions, Fedex runs, Ganking, Mining, Smack talk, L33t speak, Nerf, Soon, Stripmining, wtfpwnd, pwnd, threadhijack, troll, Named item, Exploiting, Ploiters, Ninja mining, Ninja looting
All used in other games before EVE

I have watched these forums for a long time but I have yet to figure out what "pwnd" means. Could someone please enlighten me? |

Words like troll and thread hijack date from the early BBS days when MMO meant nothing more than what some drunk guy might scribble on the bathroom wall. _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

Edited by: DeFood on 17/06/2004 21:17:50 EVE/CCP definately invented the words "optimal Range" "falloff" and "tracking".
They might sound like words youre used to from everyday life, but in EVE, browsing the gun info tells you absof***inglutely nothing useful about how your guns might be expected to perform.
I suppose its taken as a given that they just miss.
-- edit: actually, dont get me wrong. Im not bitter about the changes. Im bitter than the numbers presented are meaningless in a realworld/physics textbook sense. Im bitter that the numbers are more meaningless to the user than totally abstract statistics in my DnD handbooks that I can at least use to determine my chance to hit.

"The Patch"
- often reffered as a new era, where everything will change.
Ganking
- I've heard that this is used other places as well, but EVE was my first meeting with it. I know what it is to gank, but not what it really is a short for.
and not to forget:
Orethief.

once again you have any clue what you talking about? Falloff is a balistic term used by naval forces and snipers or anything else that shoots a slug out of a tube....same goes for optimal range and tracking....

poof-timer (as in what determines how long jet cans last)
can-lagging (pironeered by pirates in the days of old to camp JIPs with ease... the bastards.)
which takes me to...
JIP (jump in point)
the shakes (let you know when you're coming out of warp)
*PiNg!* (from the first couple of days that in-space module online/offline switching was implemented, and the Devs made them sound off everytime you jumped! argh!)
how is "podding" not specific to EVE? i can't concieve of that being used in any way that has anything remotely to do with its use in EVE...
'roid-hugger (peace-loving miner, mining all day, everyday... until the end of time...)
mission-wh... (same thing as previous, but for mission runners)
argh... brain not working... must get more cocacola...

Ganking, tanking and farming has been in all games since the dawn of time, sadly most EVE players conform to speak this watered down MMO shorthand.

Oh, come now Sutty...
WhiteDwarf was instrumental in shaping this MMO into a more enjoyable persistent universe gaming experience. I bet every member of the DEV team has a portrait of WhiteDwarf on their desk, and scribings of all his posts carefully hand copied from one DEV to the next like the old Bible's were. No doubt the DEV's cherish these words, and live by them, and admire the man who once spoke them so vibrantly.
Although WhiteDwarf is no longer the man he once was due to a cloning mishap, he will never be forgotten. He was a hero to many, the guiding light for all of those who felt helplessly ganked, but most importantly, he was respected by all, even by his most hated enemies, ISD.
For you to use WhiteDwarf's name in vain like that Sutty is pure blasphemy!
May your brain explode in a horrible cloning accident some day Sutty! Setting you back to 0 skillpoints!
Have a nice day :)

I can't believe we're on page 3 of this thread and no-one has mentioned "being Moo'd", OK, so it doesn't happen as often as it did in the early days of the game, but I lost a couple of ships by "being Moo'd".

Thats entirely the point of my rant. CCP have changed the terms so much that knowledge of the ballistic terms does not help you understand how the EVE guns are going to perform :. CCP have re-invented these words.
That is, if I happen to be familair with ballistics, and see ballistics terms being used I expect them to have the correct ballistics meanings. As it is CCP might as well give these terms totally invented names like THAC0 or "Frijildit Range" or something for all the similarity the CCP terms have to ballistics terms.
