Originally by: mercyonman global warming is not caused by us. and really there isn't much of it. the northern glaciers yes are melting. BUT the southern glaciers are growing rapidly. many cargo ships had to reroute due to glacier expansion. and all the carbon we emit the trees turn it straight into oxygen. plus carbon dioxide doesn't effect our planet that much. the whole in the ozone layer is basically to let some of the atmosphere to escape so we don't heat up TOO much.

One Bomb to rule them all, One Bomb to find them, One Bomb to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
I say lets get it over with. Some very natural phenomenon that causes no damage to the environment
Being serious though; rough times ahead tbh, Very rough times.
And as another in this thread already mentioned, the earth will take care of itself. We'll need a place to hide for a few thousand years, or not :\ ---

We have some more pressing matters we should focus on instead of an uncertain climate state.
Peak Oil - This can lead to large scale energy crisis and politic affects are a bit scary. We really need to get closer to oil independence.
Clean Drinking water - Most large cities or cities in general get there water from underground aquifers, which take thousands of years to fully replenish. Most of our fresh water is locked up in glaciers and polar ice.
Oceans Ecosystems - Large amounts of sewage and fertilizers are being dumped into the oceans and effectively choking marine life as its sucking up a ton of oxygen. We are over fishing and as the worlds population grows the worse it'll get.
Deforestation - Think we all know what this means.
Nuclear Weapons - There are about 20,000 nuclear weapons just sitting there still active. With countries like Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea developing nuclear weapons and countries like Syria seeking out a nuclear program, we can't ignore how dangerous this situation is getting. Especially when you have Putin threatening European countries with nuclear annihilation.
With the science on global warming still being unclear and with more pressing matters we should attend to, it seems our focus and money are going to the wrong problem. Everything I listed above has a direct human cause and can have a direct fix if we put more time and money into solving them. Global Warming is a craze and trend right now, just like DDT was (Which environmentalists were wrong about and caused 2 million deaths a year during its ban).
We should solve our more immanent issues that would likely kill us long before any kind of climate change would. In doing so we may even solve whatever climate crisis we may or may not be facing.

Stupid Forums ated my post.
High heat in Venus is due to two things a) Venus receives double the solar heating than earth. b) Increased heat allows sulphur to be leached from the crust, forming H2SO4 clouds in the atmosphere. Sulfuric Acid has a higher heat capacity than CO2 (though not as high as water).
c) If you take into account water vapor in the Earth's atmosphere, it aco****s for 95% of the IR retention footprint. CO2 accounts for a bit more than 3%. Only 3% of that 3% can be attributed to man. If you want to argue for Global Warming - CO2 is not the way to do it.

Of course the distance matters. And I didn't intend for my post to say that it was CO2 that did it or that CO2 was more effective. Mine was just a response to the Mars comment about CO2

The OP's video is pure comedy. It takes a mediocre intelligence to take one's life and animals (even in the distant hopeless future the video portrays) are not capable of that while still in their animal form (small brain cavity etc). The most stupid of the human beings latch on to their lives when facing inevitable death, prolonged suffering/misery and the idiot that created that video expects animals to dismiss the conservation instinct and surpass humans. hahah

And wtf is this general moaning about global warming? And because certain prerequisites (on Earth and who knows where else in the Universe) are met, even if a few species disappear (which happend quite a lot in the course of evolution) life itself will not disappear, in the worst case scenario it will cycle. But let's moan for the sake of it, feel down and post doomsday theories. Such a wonderful way to pass time, isn't it?
This, pretty much. The personification of the animals committing suicide was laughable at best, and an attempt at fear mongering at worst. |

I think the problem of GW if indeed there is one is a relatively minor one at this moment in time. Alot of the figures posted round the world in that lovely thing called the media failed to take into account the solar maximum, where worlwide temperatures worldwide increased due to the shorter distance between earth and sun.

The cause is irrelevant at this point, although even if it is a natural phenomena it is still stupid to ruin the environment.
What bothers me is that almost one third of the planet's population is dependant on the fragile eco-systems in the far-east. If they lose their ability to feed themselves, and we consider the fact that there is at least three countries with nukes down there, then things starts to get interesting.

Actually its just the Northern Hemisphere thats warming. The past 25 years the southern hemisphere has shown no rise in temperature. SO yeah its debatable.

That video is one of the better propaganda videos i have seen in a while
First of all "Stop global warming"..Hmm..How do we STOP what has been going on since the dawn of time?Climate changes has happend lots of times and there will come alot more in the future. Its arrogant and naiv to think we can "stop" mother nature.
Its all a fraud to make us pay the price it cost to force the oil business into a "cleaner" business. Our Governments know that they will not pay the price so they force us into accepting the bill..With propaganda campaigns like this.
Dont get me wrong,i dont like polution but the main problem for our nature is NOT co2..Its all the other poisonus crap we let out and our OVERPOPULATION! We multiply with aprox 90 million a year and close to a billion every decade.THATS the problem and not co2. Every newcommer wants a western way of living and his square meters to live in. Because of that nature has to make way for our safe living. Forget about "stoping global warming"..Its a lost cause wich we never had any chance to fight against.
A friend of mine is a marine biologist and she has been going to antartica to mesure and keep track of the situation. Like she said,"we dont know if its us or if there is anything we can do,probably not,but all we can do is try" And she admitted that if researchers gave the public opinion a few bones here and there, they would still back up the researchers PAYCHEKS.There you have it...Make the public panic and they will found your research for years and keep you in a steady job. This whole propaganda campaign has economical interests...And WE pay the price through co2 taxes..Dont you just love it?

I never really liked monkey cause they re dumb, polar bears cause they eat people, nor kangaroos cause they punched me.
So, Back to reality, global warming is a cycle of earth, weather we re here or not. even if i get proven wrong i ll still wont give a s**t about it cause frankly, it will take a 1000 years to really find out. |

I don't know where you live, or if you ever go outdoors at all?
But where I am from we used to have snow until last week of April or first week of May. With a lukewarm summer lasting 2+ months or so. And snowing starting in late Oct again.
We have no winters at all nowadays, and havn't had a winter for more than 10 years! No snow in the wintertime, temperature hardly getting below freezing.
If you are unable to see one such obvious thing, you cannot be helped.

well, I was supposed to go to the dessert this time around while in Algeria for 3 months, but didn't cause it was all read 42 degrees instead of the old average of 30-35 and the desserts average of 40 went up to 48. 52 highest, its does go below freezing at night, but its impossible to ride a bike in that temperature. I gotta say that this has happened before, explains why the bloody sea that was there dried up.
And even if it happens again, species will not go extinct, especially polar bears and kangaroos and monkeys.
Why is thaT?
We have bloody zoos in all part of the world and different climates, and they managed to make some of them adapt to even eat baby food. This advert was over exaggerated, and put your self in the shoes of the million of global warming scientist. would you like your founding to be terminated? or free donations, which is what this add really asks for.
The best way to combat over population is treating people like in china, 1 kid only. and frankly it ll probably work, and i don't see how a not born baby is a deprived from life baby.
ethics VS humans can be the same as the one with animals, we re not that much better than them. Earth was better off before we cam along.
