Sad i agree..
It's not the earth that needs saving, it will fix it self. It will just take a million years or so. Species die out and new ones will replace them, i think we need to think in tearms of how we can save humanity from destroying itself. We evolved into the habitat we have, but we are changing it so fast. That whom knows what will happen, perhaps we will go the way of the dodo. Or a new sort of humanoid will evolv, one more used to the climate and the earth of the future..

global warming is not caused by us. and really there isn't much of it. the northern glaciers yes are melting. BUT the southern glaciers are growing rapidly. many cargo ships had to reroute due to glacier expansion. and all the carbon we emit the trees turn it straight into oxygen. plus carbon dioxide doesn't effect our planet that much. the whole in the ozone layer is basically to let some of the atmosphere to escape so we don't heat up TOO much.
maybe i shouldn't of jumped through that gate |

also trees don't magicaly balance us out, the problem is we make more of it than the trees can use. the more we cut down forests the less oxygen the forests make.

let's see, I'm assuming you're just trolling, but some nut might actually believe you so I'll set some stuff straight, for their benefit.
1. I believe you're wrong, but whatever. 2. yes there is. 3. yes they are. 4. not quite. 5. if a part of the glacier breaks off due to warmth (much like an icecube cracks if you put it in a glass of water, that part will float off and become a boating hazard, I'll grant you that. 6. even if that were true, we're also rapidly turning trees straight into stubs. 7. normally yes. but we've increased the amount of it in the atmosphere by roughly 35% since the beginning of the industrial age. and the balance of nature is fairly capricious. 8. ... idiot.

right but all that carbon got taken from the atmosphere by plant life, which then decomposed and turned into fossil fuels. which we now burn and turn back to carbon.
and something I was watching stated that fossil fuel emissions were about 3% of the generated atmospheric carbon. volcanoes/animal life generate far more massive amounts.

AAAAAAND.
Science time.
Damage is done. Even if we stop all carbon, CO2, nuclear, etc pollution the damage is done to the planet.
If the polar bears can't take it they are going to die unless we can keep them going in a artificial habitat.
Most "enviromentalists" forget this fact and want to waste further money on "saving" these animals when in fact we should be working on helping 3rd world countries come into the industrial age without killing everything ELSE on the planet with pollution.
The damage is done, how much of it continues is up to us.

with respect to the fact that the earth may be doing this naturally... a) we're certainly not helping, and IIRC the human contribution to atmospheric CO2 is an order of magnitude greater than that done by the earth's cycles.
b) Who cares whose fault it is? Solidly putting the blame on something isn't going to make the outcome any less environmentally destructive.
c) What, exactly, is the harm in finding cleaner energy sources? If we're causing global warming, hey, we just saved the planet, whoo. If we're not, hey, we have way cleaner energy sources and a nicer planet to live on. If we don't do anything? Well, if we're causing the problem... If we're not? Well, I don't know about you, but I'd rather clean up the planet anyway.
Also, that was very sad. __________________________________

Temperature drives carbon dioxide levels, world heats up carbon dioxide levels go up. Not the other way around.
Water vapor and solar activity are affecting our temperatures more than co2. For instance the spike in temperature in '98 happened during El Nino, when water vapor was being pumped into our atmosphere.
From the 1940's through the 1970's we went through a cooling period, during the seventies scientists were warning of global cooling. This was during a period of large industrial growth, which was less regulated then we are now.
Our surface temperatures are rising slightly, however where our climate actually occurs ( troposhpere ) temps. aren't changing. There is a lot more urban radiation now then there has ever been obviously.
Scientific methods to come to a convenient conclusions such as mixing direct measurements and proxy measurements make a lot of findings suspect.
Climate science is still in its infancy and there is a LOT we don't fully understand. Phrases such as "there is no debate" makes me believe global warmists are afraid of any debate and make any scientist who has information that clashes with theirs is a heretic. That tactic is used when the facts are really not on your side and is a spin tactic.

We have some more pressing matters we should focus on instead of an uncertain climate state.
Peak Oil - This can lead to large scale energy crisis and politic affects are a bit scary. We really need to get closer to oil independence.
Clean Drinking water - Most large cities or cities in general get there water from underground aquifers, which take thousands of years to fully replenish. Most of our fresh water is locked up in glaciers and polar ice.
Oceans Ecosystems - Large amounts of sewage and fertilizers are being dumped into the oceans and effectively choking marine life as its sucking up a ton of oxygen. We are over fishing and as the worlds population grows the worse it'll get.
Deforestation - Think we all know what this means.
Nuclear Weapons - There are about 20,000 nuclear weapons just sitting there still active. With countries like Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea developing nuclear weapons and countries like Syria seeking out a nuclear program, we can't ignore how dangerous this situation is getting. Especially when you have Putin threatening European countries with nuclear annihilation.
With the science on global warming still being unclear and with more pressing matters we should attend to, it seems our focus and money are going to the wrong problem. Everything I listed above has a direct human cause and can have a direct fix if we put more time and money into solving them. Global Warming is a craze and trend right now, just like DDT was (Which environmentalists were wrong about and caused 2 million deaths a year during its ban).
We should solve our more immanent issues that would likely kill us long before any kind of climate change would. In doing so we may even solve whatever climate crisis we may or may not be facing.

Stupid Forums ated my post.
High heat in Venus is due to two things a) Venus receives double the solar heating than earth. b) Increased heat allows sulphur to be leached from the crust, forming H2SO4 clouds in the atmosphere. Sulfuric Acid has a higher heat capacity than CO2 (though not as high as water).
c) If you take into account water vapor in the Earth's atmosphere, it aco****s for 95% of the IR retention footprint. CO2 accounts for a bit more than 3%. Only 3% of that 3% can be attributed to man. If you want to argue for Global Warming - CO2 is not the way to do it.

I think the problem of GW if indeed there is one is a relatively minor one at this moment in time. Alot of the figures posted round the world in that lovely thing called the media failed to take into account the solar maximum, where worlwide temperatures worldwide increased due to the shorter distance between earth and sun.

The cause is irrelevant at this point, although even if it is a natural phenomena it is still stupid to ruin the environment.
What bothers me is that almost one third of the planet's population is dependant on the fragile eco-systems in the far-east. If they lose their ability to feed themselves, and we consider the fact that there is at least three countries with nukes down there, then things starts to get interesting.

Actually its just the Northern Hemisphere thats warming. The past 25 years the southern hemisphere has shown no rise in temperature. SO yeah its debatable.

That video is one of the better propaganda videos i have seen in a while
First of all "Stop global warming"..Hmm..How do we STOP what has been going on since the dawn of time?Climate changes has happend lots of times and there will come alot more in the future. Its arrogant and naiv to think we can "stop" mother nature.
Its all a fraud to make us pay the price it cost to force the oil business into a "cleaner" business. Our Governments know that they will not pay the price so they force us into accepting the bill..With propaganda campaigns like this.
Dont get me wrong,i dont like polution but the main problem for our nature is NOT co2..Its all the other poisonus crap we let out and our OVERPOPULATION! We multiply with aprox 90 million a year and close to a billion every decade.THATS the problem and not co2. Every newcommer wants a western way of living and his square meters to live in. Because of that nature has to make way for our safe living. Forget about "stoping global warming"..Its a lost cause wich we never had any chance to fight against.
A friend of mine is a marine biologist and she has been going to antartica to mesure and keep track of the situation. Like she said,"we dont know if its us or if there is anything we can do,probably not,but all we can do is try" And she admitted that if researchers gave the public opinion a few bones here and there, they would still back up the researchers PAYCHEKS.There you have it...Make the public panic and they will found your research for years and keep you in a steady job. This whole propaganda campaign has economical interests...And WE pay the price through co2 taxes..Dont you just love it?

I never really liked monkey cause they re dumb, polar bears cause they eat people, nor kangaroos cause they punched me.
So, Back to reality, global warming is a cycle of earth, weather we re here or not. even if i get proven wrong i ll still wont give a s**t about it cause frankly, it will take a 1000 years to really find out. |

But where I am from we used to have snow until last week of April or first week of May. With a lukewarm summer lasting 2+ months or so. And snowing starting in late Oct again.
We have no winters at all nowadays, and havn't had a winter for more than 10 years! No snow in the wintertime, temperature hardly getting below freezing.

well, I was supposed to go to the dessert this time around while in Algeria for 3 months, but didn't cause it was all read 42 degrees instead of the old average of 30-35 and the desserts average of 40 went up to 48. 52 highest, its does go below freezing at night, but its impossible to ride a bike in that temperature. I gotta say that this has happened before, explains why the bloody sea that was there dried up.
And even if it happens again, species will not go extinct, especially polar bears and kangaroos and monkeys.
Why is thaT?

I used to live in the subarctic but now I am a notch to the south of it. But yes I can see whats happening with my own eyes. The region around the arctic circle are in fact where these changes appeared first so its not only myself but everyone else who lives here who reacted to this. You cant even walk out on the 'duoddar' (=tundraland) any more, the permafrost have melted and turned it into wet swamplands.
So I dont need any "nutjob" whatever, but you are obviously disrespectful and like to belittle the part of the world where I am from as something insignificant.

Making general observations of climate in your region says nothing and proves nothing about global warming. Some places are having milder winters some worse winters and some staying the same. Climate changes. So thats a very weak agrument.

Overall, the global average temperature is rising; the antarctic temperatures have generally followed that trend, especially if you look a the winter temperatures. As a side effect of this, the snowfall has increased greatly, resulting in growing glaciers on Antarctica, and a few other places aswell.
But, as we both agree on: All this is irrelevant. There are some large changes about to happen to the global climate, and humanity should start preparing for that instead of *****ing and fighting about the cause.

"Stop global warming"
Ooo shit my bad. *Turns off the global warmer*
We were only doing it for the lulz!
Shit like this ****es me off, Yeah the planet is having a bit of a geothermal shift at the moment but you can't just ****ing turn OFF everything that contributes to global warming. You think just stopping that much atmospheric influence wouldn't shock the planet somewhat and cause some serious screwups with the weather?
You know what doesn't help? Cutting down all the trees and mass deforestation, yeah they dont magically solve the problem but they sure as hell help a bit.
Cars? How about cows? Would you give up a beef steak to drive your car? How about they make some cheap, practical electric cars rather than making the most efficient and useful ones cost over $40,000?
Obviously its a problem, but a catch-all phrase such as "Stop Global Warming" is obscenely ignorant. This video is nothing but a rendered attempt at making people feel worse than they already do in a world of pending economic failure and fuel crisis.

let's see, I'm assuming you're just trolling, but some nut might actually believe you so I'll set some stuff straight, for their benefit.
8. ... idiot.

It was some data I read from Roy Spencer of NASA and John Christy. I'll try and remember the name of the data/paper they published. It basically talked about the surface temps rising in the NH and the SH not really moving one way or another in any meaningful way. They also talk about the differences between what we are seeing as far as the differences we are having between our surface temps (rising) and tropospheric temps. (cooling). The theory of global warming would mean tropospheric temps. should rise faster than surface temps. which is not the case right now.
