Am I the only one who find minmatar ships beautiful?

Sila Fang Caldari	Posted - 2008.10.06 20:22:00 - [1] Edited by: Sila Fang on 06/10/2008 20:22:42 Minmatar ship get a lot of slack for looking like floating junkyards, but i love the realistic easthetic, and some of the ships have a beautiful line to them. Sure some things (like the slasher) are ugly, but there are many examples of beatiful minmatar ships: - Nidhoggur: in my opinion its the most beatiful carrier out there. It is gigantic sleek armoured monstrosity. It has an incredibly simple aesthetic with the 2 plates, and the birdge and the engines at the back top of it all really nicely. - Huginn/rapier/bellicose: I know many people will disagree with me on this, but i really love its shape and ruggedness. It looks like something we might build sometime in the imment future, making it more poignant. - Rifter: Has style. 'nuff said - Hurricane: Similar to the hell, with the blade like fins along the side. Looks like amar minmatar synergy, with an extra topping of blade like style. - Tempest: looks strong, brtual, and is if takes no abuse from anyone and fits in perfectl as a heavy hitting ship. Shame this apearance is so far from the truth. - Mealstrom: Nice redesign of the minmatar fins concept, taking some of the hurricane style on board. Looks incredibly graceful in the revelations trailer at the beginning. - Rupture: you come to love it. Garmonists will agree with me here i think. - Naglfar: truly unique and stylish, its vertical for a start. Looks very nice in the empyrean age trailers. Now, does anyone agree with me, or does everyone think the minmatar ships look like tey have blown up several times already?

It even has oars for the slaves to row when the cap is low Nid is awesome too. The Rifter is my 2nd fave frigate (Kessie first), and the Maelstrom is gorgeous...kinda reminds me of that Egyptian wolf-headed deity (Anubis, I think it is). Aside from those, Minmatar ships make me wretch when I look at them - with the worst offender being the Typhoon.

Aleus Stygian	Posted - 2008.10.06 20:58:00 - [13] The Hel looks far better than the Nidhoggur, whose looks are a little too flimsy and unsophisticated for a ship its size. It's not bad, it just doesn't compare to its mommy's power. The Huginn is pretty much the epitome of Minmatar cruisers, with the Bellicose's rather neat hull, and adding two things; usefulness and a good color scheme. The Jaguar perfects the Rifter. The Hurricane is way too small to have that imposing power that its wedge-like shape should give, and its hindquarters are way too clumsy. Better go with the Cyclone then, or better yet the Sleipnir, for a brutal space-mace with speed and solar panels. The Tempest is royal crap. The Vargur however... A shield-tanking friend of mine flies a Maelstrom. In gang we all call it the 'Invulnerable Potato Peeler'. The rupture is a bulky, fast-welded piece of crap. Like something I'd expect from demented space-Mayans. The Naglfar is as unimpressive in looks as it is in performance. That you didn't mention the Thrasher made me despise you a little, though that was neutralized by your appreciation for the Bellicose.

Hurricane actually shows the background of the Minmatar - look at the pattern the engines make if you look at it dead astern - if you have trouble seeing it give it some spped). Mayans FTW... Not to mention the overall shape of the Hurricane is a old-style dagger with fins on it..the two big solar panels form the crossguard, the engines/bridge form the hilt, and the wedge forms the blade...wiht the tip snapped off. Rifter shouldn't even BE a minmatar frigate - from it's design it's clearly the kid brother of the Megathron... Rupture has a certain elegance as the Flying Brick. Stabber/Vagabond - vibrator-mobile. Thrasher is nice in a fish-shaped sense - at least the front part, with those solar panels remind me of gills... Cyclone looks like a spiked mace. Really - add a couple of buttons and it'd look like a lightsaber hilt in one of George Lucas' more demented productions :)

Not a fan of the breacher either.....looks half-finished to me lol *Where am I?*

However, frankly, i think ALL races cruisers other than the arbitrator (and curse) are ugly looking, and i really cant think of a good looking battleship, some look better than others, but they all look 'wrong' somehow. Really, the battlecruisers are the games best looking ships if you ask me. And of those i think minmatar win, because both of theirs look equally awesome. Other races tend to have one nice one and one uglier one.

'nuff said - Hurricane: Similar to the hell, with the blade like fins along the side. Looks like amar minmatar synergy, with an extra topping of blade like style. - Tempest: looks strong, brtual, and is if takes no abuse from anyone and fits in perfectl as a heavy hitting ship. Shame this apearance is so far from the truth. - Mealstrom: Nice redesign of the minmatar fins concept, taking some of the hurricane style on board. Looks incredibly graceful in the revelations trailer at the beginning. - Rupture: you come to love it. Garmonists will agree with me here i think. - Naglfar: truly unique and stylish, its vertical for a start. Looks very nice in the empyrean age trailers. Now, does anyone agree with me, or does everyone think the minmatar ships look like tey have blown up several times already? The wingy bits on the minni ships I think look bad. They do nothing :P. Other then that minmatar has a realistic feel to them, in space nice curves and aerodynamic design serve no purpose at all. SO Caldari and minmatar are cool that way. Gallante got a fe wok ships, and Amarr have a few nice ones too.

The vigil would be awesome if they tilted it 90 degrees. On the other side of the equation, the Phoon looks like a crawdad, and the probe looks like something built on Junkyard wars.

I feel sad about the cheetah being changed into a Probe model. Minmatar cruisers are not the best but are ok. They did a great job on the new Scythe/Scimitar. The Broadsword is the best looking of the rupture class (blue lights like the Hyena) But I dont really like the co(kpits for the rupture class ships on the lower front... It just looks weird. Minmatar Battlecruisers are just great... 'nuff said. (Claymore :D) For battleships... just the Mealstrom.. and maybe the Panther. Minmatar carrier and Big Momma are great. i'd love to see a fleet of Hel, Nidhoggur and Hurricanes + a lot of minmatar fighters Also the Fenrir/Nomad is very nice..

Whoever did that thing deserves a reward, there's something absolutely right about it. Goddamn why is there no T2 one, and why isn't it the size of a battleship. Rifter is great, looks like something off Transformers ( from the top ), Slasher is kinda like something escaped from Mad Max or something of that ilk & has charm, the other frigs are... troubled :P Stabber hull looks like it's doing 10 million kmh standing still, if it wasn't for the half-finished back end it'd be pretty perfect too. All the BS have something about them, even if the Phoon looks like a tunnel digging machine. Just like most of the Matari ships they look different, rather than the somewhat traditional designs of the other races, I think that's a lot of the attraction. Anyone think a Rohk was designed by a matari who had access to proper materials? :) really not very Caldari, that thing.

The background lore has matari ships powered by nuclear fission reactors and I assume a steam cycle to extract power thermodynamically. Steam would explain the presence of rust in space and the need to cool the working fluid with those fins. In a sci-fi internet spaceship game, nuclear fission and steam is a delightfully retro and "crude but effective" technology that suits the matar perfectly.
