They're hidden by default. http://eve-files.com/dl/175436 Those medals will presumably appear in the decorations tab when given to members, but I'm not a CEO or director so I can't test that

They show player accomplishments, give players something to aim for, and help newbies understand where skills fall into with a visual chart.
