dunno if this is the right place but..
The codes are way to high right now. i could still understand 500 mil but its getting way bigger than that...
The normal price should be 400-450 mil not 550-600 mil
I suggest a strike, nobody buys any GTC for a week until the prices are lowered to the 450 mil mark..

I am willing to go upto 1 bil. My accounts each make much more isk then that in one month. So no prob really. ----------------- Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It's not a thing to be waited for - it is a thing to be achieved. |

Given the current economic situation, both in EVE and in the real world, I would expect the gap between pounds and isk to get wider.

Dream on. It's going to get ALOT worse. *Ghost training* 30 day GTCs were gone, now the 60 day cards will have to be back to back, with no *ghost* time as well. I've already disabled 2 of my alt accounts, since they don't produce enough cash by themselves to be worth back to back 60 day cards. I also forsee character selling prices going up as well.

I highly doubt they will get to 1bil ISK. With the Ghost Training nerf coming in a lot of people will find it hard to justify 1B ISK on a toon that doesn't generate any ISK. I actually predict a drop in Sales over this nerf. CCP thinking they will get more is a blind to the "NEED" of people.
In all honesty you don't need 4,5, even 6 accounts to play this game effectively. Here is what I predict.
A rather large increase for a short term of GTC sales then a massive drop off. However CCP will also see a rather large spike in "Character Transfers" where toons that have been collecting skills will be consolidated into one account.
Things like current offer of 6 months of game play for one low price will become popular as it's the cheapest offer on the table then that character gets xfered to a paying account to use.
Yeah at the moment you'll see a high demand, but I'll bet you in 60-80 days time the price will rocket down as most people sever their excess accounts.
It's funny in a way CCP sealed it own fate by removing 30day GTCs. The increase in single 60 day skill changing allowed most people to get up to BattleShip 4 with many other bells and whistles then just 30 days. Allowing people to come out of a 40 day skill considerably more skilled then before. So more people did exactly that. Trained up for 60 days then had 40-50 days of Ghost training.
Then they have buy another 60 days allowing them to get a lot of other pre-req skills for capital ships before needing to train for another 50-70 days.
Funny how they reacted, instead of smaller more repetitive cash infusions every 60-80 days, they get a slightly larger less repetitive 90-120days.
It's their own fault, and they'll notice even less as GTC sales start bombing out because of it. But hey just like everyone else, CCP will get a instant gratification of a sizable amount of $25 per pop Character Transfer fees instead of $20 infusions every 60 days.. (30 days training on GTC + 30 day long skill training)
Instant gratification has proven over and over again to be the death of many things, this is just another example of it.

Edited by: Karanth on 14/10/2008 18:02:18 I say we should nationalize the GTC process, taking it out of the greedy hands of individuals and artificially keep it low for the good of everyone. Because really, every time the prices of things get too high, the best thing to do is just bring it under central control, right? Right?
OK, not really. Question: Why is profit bad? Why should these people going to the effort of doing the GTC thing voluntarily reduce their income from those GTC because you'd rather it be cheaper?
One thing that really ****es me off: Everyone is all in favour of a totally free, no-holds-barred market, until things increase in cost a bit, then everyone starts shrieking for lower prices and clawbacks of profits.
Why? Your options are better than, for example, someone buying fuel. You have multiple options available to pay for your accounts. No one forces you to use GTCs.
God, you guys.

I agree but in that whole thing you wrote you didn't say that its players real money used to buy GTC from CCP then sold for the highest price available.
I sometimes think that the OP and like kind forget that CCP doesn't have anything to do with GTC sales.
PS I wish that GTC would go to a billion not saying that I think it will.

With dark training removed, there's much less incentive to use game time codes or short credit card-paid subscriptions.
For those of us who pay in Euros when we use credit cards, a 6-month subscription is actually cheaper than 3 time codes (since time codes are paid in US dollars), and a 12-month subscription is cheaper still.
(I myself switched from time codes to a 12-month subscription a couple of weeks ago; no, I did not have advance information about dark training being removed. I simply knew that I had exhaused my own need for dark training, and so I might as well go for the cheapest permanent subscription.)
Also, for CCP it is probably more attractive to be paid directly via credit cards, than to sell time codes to guys like Shattered Crystal who then sell these time codes on, because time code selling online stores want a profit margin.
Beyond that, there may be a preference for being paid in Euros (credit cards, as long as subscribers are Europeans) rather than US dollars. Or maybe the other way around. I actually don't know about this aspect of things. Either way, I'm sure that CCP gets a larger percentage from credit card payments than from time codes.

All "clever" reasoning behind the price rise is a massive over thought.
Look at the timecode bazaar. Look closely. You'll quickly see the real reason why there is a rising price trend. There are far more buyers than there are sellers at the moment. Every thread gets leaped upon by far more people than there is codes.

Nope, my play time was reduced by the start of the school year/new job. Clinicals+work+class = not enough time for those alt accounts to pay for themselves. Those that know me know I have a pile of iskies and can easily afford to keep them awake at even outrageous prices. I just can't justify it in playtime vs. isk cost. With people keeping characters alive for training, it costs them more, and the cost will be passed on when they sell them.

Edited by: Shadarle on 15/10/2008 08:05:27 I truly hope this thread was posted with trolling in mind. If not then it just goes to show that stupidity is alive and well in EVE, which is good news for those of us who know how to exploit such stupidity for personal gain.
And as an aside, I really wish GTC's prices would go up higher. It would mean less alts which means less manufacturing and trading and contracts, which means I will be able to make even more money.

Those that sell GTC for isk, don't tend to buy GTC for isk, they tend to buy their game time. With the advent of more expensive 60 day GTCs and the end of ghost training, they'll probably move on to direct subscriptions, because that's cheaper then the GTCs. I suspect that one of the main motivations for CCP to remove ghost training is to move more people to their subscription base, they earn more from the straight subscription then from a GTC sale.
Folks that sell GTCs for isk, want more isk to play with in game, if they have more accounts, they'll pay for them with RL money. It might mean that some of the folks need more RL money to support all their accounts, and have less to buy GTCs with and sell for isk. But the number of folks that 'exploit' ghost training far outnumber the folks that sell GTCs.
A lot of folks that 'exploit' ghost training will no longer be able to 'afford' the additional accounts. First there are no more 'cheap' 30 day GTCs, and second, no more ghost training. The cost for skilling a character has almost tripled with what it was a year ago, that increase in cost is significant, and not sustainable for a lot of individuals. A little less supply vs. a lot less demand (if the 3500+ post thread is any indication), equals more supply in my book.
Only a small percentage of the player base has enough imagination of what to do with characters that are active all the time, so I expect that it's a good move for those folks ;-)

Don't really understand this thought process. What is cheaper, using a credit card to play a game or playing for free using in game ISK? Not paying real money wins for me.
Also not really sure of CCP logic here either. Every GTC that is bought equals cash to CCP. If people start cancelling ALT accounts then less GTC's are bought which equals less cash to CCP.

Only if you approach the game from an industrialist & trader mindset. While an alt makes > the cost of a subscription it's an asset. Otheriwse a liability.
People who play this game to pew others have different goals and motivations. They can either grind NPCs 4s at approximately 50c/hour or... mow an extra lawn or deliver a couple extra pizzas a week to sell a GTC. And that's for kids -- for an adult with a job any hobby which costs an extra $35 every so often is a great value.

It all depends where you are on the price vs demand graph. If you get 50% more for your product but sell 10% less product it's a giant win. If you get 10% more for your product but sell 50% less, not so much. We may never know if the GTC price changes were a good idea or not. Even if there is a perceptible drop in subscribers it'll be hard to determine whether the nanonerf, dark training nerf or GTC price increase was to blame.
