Master of Orion for sure, no contest.
First was clumsy, but enjoyable. Second was almost perfect, even if not very feature-rich. Third was kind of dissapointing, because even if it had a LOT of features, it lost a lot of the things that made the second great (like individual ship control, boarding of ships and other awesome ship-to-ship combat options ; for almost anything else, MoO3 was better, but this lack of MoO2-esque action made it a failure in my book).
So... Master of Orion 2. Or, if anybody manages to create a MoO4 that combines the best of MoO2 and MoO3, I'm all over it.

Edited by: Roxanna Kell on 14/10/2008 18:23:59 Lets see, For a Sci-fi Series:
* No Aliens what so ever, But mutated or advanced humans is OK, bit like river tam in firefly. Aliens are just badly created in any series, and they re always uglier than us. Ever think deeply about that? Why no one creates any species by drawing, that is more beautiful than humans?
The world Shouldn't be too big, Maybe a couple of solar systems.
Ships would be great like X3 style, They have awesome designs. EVE's rifter which looks like a star wars pod racer, or the crusader which leans more towards a cylon fighter.
AGE: 2500-3500.
Technology, I would rule out warps, and going through wormholes, its boring ok. Its more suitable to science nerds who want to believe in this things.
Plot: I like it not to be in a warship or anything with commanders, its been overdone. A big war between half the worlds would be nice, part of a political struggle or something. who would say no to a fleet battle.
But its nice to have a story circled around one person, bit like Freelancer and Carl Brenand in x3, as they get sucked in more serious issues.
Sci-fi shouldn't be just about ships, a bit of good story telling like politics in bsg, or good characters like firefly is nice. a break away from the nerd world of Startrek.
Babylon 5 was nice too, but it had some ridiculous looking aliens which put me off from watching beyond the first 3 episodes. Recall the Mantis?
EDIT: Forgot the MMO PART.
Well, Most important a Space mmo for me should be Huge, like infinity, give you full ship control, like infinity,,,,,let me save you time and just say: Infinity is what i always dreamed of about a perfect space mmo, lets just hope it get to the very good part at least, nothing is perfect.

Elves are humans with pointy ears, I mean they just adjusted the concept of a human, not really created a whole new species.

How are you supposed to make a NEW species that aren't mostly human in some way without them being horribly ugly.
Then again, this is OOPE. Take a bucket of slime and add cleavage *BAM* instant sexiness.

Exactly, you cant create an Alien species that looks totally different and "alien" from humans and expect us to find it beautiful, from the aliens perspective we're the ugly ones :P
Plus I agree with the Predator is sexy guy, I'd have his babies, if only so I could raise an army of hybrid human-Predators to enslave the world and make my own Sci Fi MMO with NASA to developing it. -----------------

I wouldn't really subscribe to that theory. I think you're confusing "beautiful" and "sexy". You can't create something that is alien that a human would view as sexy (unless he has a strange tentacle fetish or something). But something beautiful? Why not?
There are beautiful animals, abstract art can be beautiful, a car can be beautiful, a tree or a flower can be beautiful. So why not an alien? ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. It's given freely and only grudgingly withdrawn. |

the x-com games
well up to and including apocolypse
ufo defence / enemy unknown was excellent, game play was good, was pretty tense at times have some hot plasma whizzing past from the dark, good plot, nice tech tree and interesting takes
terror from the deep, same as above just with different tech andsettings, still had the great R@D aspect
apocolypse - prety epic IMO, same as above but they added more options including a real time play mode, good tech tree, fun and tactical enviroments and again good tech tree.
intercepter was okish, had the base and reserch eliment but went off its homeland set, and became a space sim, and not a great sim at that.
aftermath, meh was ok, not great, but playable mainly only for ufo fans
the 2 others i can remember, total crap
the remake of ufo, ufo exterestrials(spelling>>!) was a pretty good remake, not upto modern spec but a good playable game.
its becuase micropose got taken over at the end of production for x-com apoc, so it went downhill quickly after that.
second lot would have to be moo 1 and moo 2, excellent games, 3 sucked balls and ruined alot of peoples hopes!

Perfect game would have the same economic structure as Eve. In that sense, to me, Eve is perfect. Except for T2 BPOs, but whatever.
When you are piloting a ship smaller than a battleship, controls should be more arcade style. When you're zipping around at 8km/sec, it just doesn't feel right to have to double click to move somewhere.
Capital ships would have the option for multiple pilots, where the ship gets buffed significantly with the second pilot in it. (maybe extra slots or more cap/recharge/bandwidth, etc) (would that cut down on lag in the huge fleet battles?)
Aliens are ok, as long as they take some time on them. Not just some human with a paper plate stapled to their forehead and covered in maple syrup. However tasty, maple syrup aliens are just goofy looking.

Edited by: DubanFP on 15/10/2008 21:57:43 [Honestly. The Megaman X and Zero series were awesome. Sure the original Megamans were kind of flimsy and childish but when X came out it's like they grew up and became a lot more serious.
Some time in the early-mid 2000s "remember this started in the 90s" Doctor Light built and sealed away a human-like robot called Megaman X "X for short" for 100 years of diagnostics. Light knew he would not live to see it through but didn't want to see a world destroyed by reploids. X was rediscovered in the 21XX by doctor Cain and was found to have been built with the abillity to think and make decisions for himself without a commanding human.
Cain figured out how to recreate Lights technology and soon the world was filled with Reploids "replicas of X's free thought". Of course some Reploids were afraid of the Humans and some Humans were afraid of reploids. Only a matter of time before some Reploids rebelled and went "Maverick". Even most of the Maverick hunters went crazy and wound up turning against the humans.
X, liking the humans, joined up with his mentor Zero to fight the Mavericks and protect a world with humans and Reploids alike. Zero and X wound up becoming friends more then mentor/student in time. It was revealed that Zero was built by Wily for the sole purpose of killing X and destroying any harmony between Reploids and Humans
The two series are great. It touches on Reploid love, Zero's loss of his love, and Zero's own free thought allows him to leave his past behind to become best friends with the one he was sent to destroy, X.
P.S. Interestingly enough it is the Humans that turn against the replicators in the Z series. The Repoids wind up having to fight for their own freedom against oppression. _______________

FreeSpace game series was amazing. Easily set the standard for non-Star Wars space combat simulators. As did Wing Commander with it's live action FMVS and amazing storyline. Both games had a rather awesome back story and crazy ship designs. And awesome weapons.

The gap into..... series by Stephen Donaldson is a great series of sci fi books that are well worth a read. Those familiar with Stephen's work would have probably read the Thomas Covenant series.
Instead of focusing on the technology of the times, he focuses on human interaction as a result of technology. A good read if your sick of reading books with 10 pages about a ship or something and 2 lines about what's going on. There are 5 books in the series I think. Still trying to get the last one so I have not read the ending yet. |__________________________ |

Yeah except systems take a couple minutes to cross at 300m/s. Planets are 15km across, suns are the same size as planets etc. Its fun though.

Freespace has to be my favorite Sci Fi game. Story is dark and serious, and the action is fun and huge. Ship designs were creative, as were the race designs. Like Eve just alot quicker and I don't emo cry as much when I die.
