This.
Although, you also forgot to mention: Neighbours, Home and Away, Flying Doctors, Dame Edna and I'm sure others will think of a few I forgot to mention...
Don't know why they don't timeshift it to interfere with the Chinese timezone though, since they're not playing these servers (in theory). Of course, then you have the Russians to worry about, since it'd fall into their laps.
Seriously... I know why they do it, but it would be better if they could dump the downtime somewhere in the Pacific, I know... but we have news for you - if it's a toss up between upsetting Aussies and New Zealanders, the Aussies get the vote every time - we kinda like the Kiwis, while the Aussies are just... annoying...
I'm guessing the real reason is that they need both time for preparations for any patches and also time to recover from any problems (as we've all seen in the past), while still allowing the time drift here in the UK as we go to GMT and then to BST, so DT drifts from starting at midday to starting at 11am... they could, in theory, move it an hour, but it would probably start to put pressure on their server staff.

Guess when the least amount of people are on
Going by that it seems the least amount of people are online between 11 and 12 GMT. It looks like that is a pretty steady trend for the last year.
I am posting this on behalf of Gokyu who's account is suspended - What people fail to realise is that you need to ignore the downtime slot in the link above and half an hour either side of it as no-one is going to be on there anyway - that is just self fulfilling prophecy: 'no-one is on then so this must be the best downtime'. No-one is on because of downtime. Also, if you look at the logs there is always a drop a few hours before downtime and I posit that this is a better time for downtime to make everyone happy. (anyone notice the huge climb after downtime?) I commend CCP for putting its workers first and that is one of the reasons why I will probably be returning, however CCP also need to consider its customers and unfortunately if they are not willing to do anything about it then Aussies are screwed and CCP misses out on the revenue. P.S. to the trolls: If you don't like this thread read something else, or maybe go ride a bike, or play eve instead of wasting your time on the forums reading something that probably won't matter to you even if CCP do something about it.

But you do know that if DT is moved then it's just another market zone that will complain?
But since you seem to think the Aussie market is so great, how bout some numbers, the population of Australia is what 20 million? How many games are sold in Australia per capita compared to the US, UK and Germany? Do you have numbers that support changing the DT to accomodate your market zone?

The servers are in Lonodn.
Do you really want the techies to be applying hotfixes, backing up datbases etc while they're either hung-over from the night before or in a rush to get down the pub before it shuts?

Easy fix: Equip the server farm with one of these.

I don't even know what they do during DT every day anyway, besides reboot the server (presumably).

Originally by: Veldya I am just curious why they need to go down at all other than for patches. Banks have significantly larger databases and they don't shut down their ATMs to back up or perform maintenance. Is it just poor design?

Nah downtime is worse here (Western US). It's at 4 in the morning or so, so it's saying to you "GO TO SLEEP IT'S FOUR IN THE MORNING FFS!!!". Pretty rude. --------- Your bad loan management perfectly strikes the stock market, wrecking for -777.68 points. Eve job list |

People actually live there???? I thought it was all Kangaroos and Dingos out there singing in an Opera House? When did they get internets? Who approved it?

I'd like to see a few stats:
A chart showing # of logged on users in a 24hr period. Ignoring the obvious current period of downtime, perhaps this would point to a time when a natural dip occurs and explore the possibility of placing downtime there?

perhaps change downtime, say 2 hours before or 2 hours after, wont effect some of the sleep patterns of EU gamers if made earlier and would hit around 7m - 8, give u a few hours to play AU prime time

Edited by: UnDeRBaLaNcE on 23/10/2008 00:07:02 I would agree, I an American in Japan and DT are during the prime time for us right at 8PM or so I know a bit of other americans with the same complaint and there are a lot of aussies and new zelanders I play with at the same time.
I guess its ok though because it gives me time to eat and shower, since I play from 3pm-12am without eating dinner until DT.
